Amazing groomer! She knows just how to cut our springer spaniel the perfect way. He comes back so soft and smelling so fresh everytime. She also does a wonderful job trimming his nails and the fur around his paws. Our little springer is so petrified of getting bathed but she doesn't seem to mind and is always so sweet to him. First meeting with Star....one of her dogs was OFFLEASH on the sidewalk...ran up to my open car door frightening my dog inside...then she came over to me...so I put hand down to say hello....when Star YELLED at me "dont touch my dog...I dont know you" That should have been clue. In response to the owner: No, I am sure you have me mistaken for someone else. Those dates are inaccurate and I have only gone there once (I also gave birth at that time you listed so you are surely thinking of someone else) nor have I ever been able to bring my dog to the groomers that often (he has only ever gone twice: once to you & once to someone else) especially after experiencing paying $80+ for him to be shaven down by you (he wouldn't have even had enough hair to re-groom by those following dates you've listed). After that experience, I did not return. And yes, he was surely shaven down and there was a further shaved spaced covered up by an orange bandana from you. I adopted a five-year old dog named Stella whose previous owner had passed of cancer a few weeks prior. Poor baby is not leash trained and appeared to never have been groomed or bathed before. She was matted all over her body and dirty. I recently had surgery so was unable to bathe her myself. I was desperate for help. Enter Star! She offered a 9am appointment the next day. She came to my car when I arrived and carried Stella into her establishment, since I wasn't physically able to do so myself. She was so sweet and understanding and did an amazing job grooming Stella. She knew all about Stella's breed, type of coat, and how she should be groomed. Star is experienced and knowledgeable. I'm eternally grateful! read more

Star was recommended to me by two neighbors (though one of them cautioned me that she is rather, shall we say, brusque). Since she is only two blocks from my house, I decided to give her a try. I took my dog with me into her store so they could meet in person before the grooming session. I made an appointment for a few days later. The day of the appointment, I dropped off my dog. An hour and a half later, I received a text message from Star, saying I needed to come get my dog, as she would not work on her. I hurried over to her storefront and my dog came out wet and in a muzzle. Star was very upset and berated me because my dog had struggled with her on the table and in the bathtub. She said my dog broke two leads and caused her to fall. She said she was working by herself and did not have anyone to help her. She seemed most angry that I did not warn her ahead of time that my dog would act this way. I told her I did not know she would behave this way, as none of her other groomers ever said she did. Star did not believe me, as she said she doubted this was new behavior for my dog. She did not charge me for what she had started but told me she "[did] not want to see either of [us] ever again." My dog is 6 years old. She has been going to dog groomers her entire life (since I adopted her at age 10 months). I have only bathed her once myself and that was when I first adopted her. Since then she has had three regular groomers at PetSmart. Not one of them has ever reported to me that she behaves this way. They have told me she does not particularly enjoy baths and squirms on the table but never have they reported that she was such a problem that they could not handle her, they had to muzzle her, or they refused to bathe and groom her. My dog is not a biter. Interestingly, Star did not say my dog bit her or even tried to bite her (and I'm sure she would have chewed me out further if my dog had) so the muzzle just seemed like a vindictive thing to do to a scared dog. If I had known my dog was going to react this way, forget about warning her; I would not have even taken her to Star! As for her being alone and not having anyone to help her, there were two assistants in her store the day I made the appointment so I had no reason to believe she would be by herself. And even if I did, I fail to see how that is my fault. It is laughable to blame a customer for your own staffing problems. So I took my soggy, scared, and stressed dog home and made an appointment the next day with her regular groomer at PetSmart, Sarah. I relayed to her what Star had said and Sarah was incredulous. When I went to pick her up, Sarah said she went right into her kennel as told and was completely normal during her bath and groom. I think my dog got scared going to a new groomer in an unfamiliar place. I do not believe Star had the patience or the professionalism to deal with the situation. I will continue to take my dog to PetSmart, even though it's farther away. At least they are nice to my dog - and me - and that is worth the drive. read more

She's offered suggestions in caring for Chloe's hair that has made it much easier to manage in between her appointments. In addition, Chloe is always running around with other dogs when I come to pick her up which makes me feel less guilty bringing her to get a bath - which she hates! I am livid with star at Star grooming! Please see my earlier review which describes the situation, the one and only time I took my beloved Standard Poodle to star at Star grooming on 5th. My dog was dropped off healthy and alert in need of grooming. She was not knotted, she did not have stores, as dishonest Star wrote in response to my previous scathing review herein. "Star", your petty attempts to shame me regarding animal care are laughable; anyone can peer right through your feeble disrespect! I take good care of my dog. What happened in the next few hours is what makes me most upset! Star never called me as my dog fell into a state of medical collapse. Star continued to groom my dog when my dog could no longer stand on her own two feet. I do not blame star for my dogs medical condition which was unbeknownst me, Addison's disease. Addison's disease comes about when an animal undergoes great stress. Never ever in the many years that I have lived with and loved my dog have I ever had my baby so stressed out at grooming. Anyhow, star called me to come get my dog and I had to carry my dog out of her shop and put it in my vehicle and rush her to the emergency room. Star displayed such a callous lack of concern about my baby's urgent medical state that she demanded I pay her before I remove the dog from her shop. Please, please, please owners of animals do not go to star grooming!!! In response to my first review this is what happens next... As a retalitory move against me, this unprofessional wannabe businesswoman claims that my dog was matted and had sores! That is nothing shy of utterly ludicrous! She claims that I came back three more times! OMG! Star? Grasping for straws? I would NEVER EVER go back to star grooming in a billion years if it was the last place on the face of this earth! I implore everyone who cares one iota about their beloved animal companions to go anywhere but star grooming, not only for blatant disregard of a pet's medical welfare, but to stand in solidarity against unethical business practices. My sweet girl is terrified every time I take her to the groomer and absolutely traumatized by the time she leaves. I figured this would always be the case since she's been like this since birth. When I picked her up from Star, she was wagging her tail and looked cuter than the cutest little button. I don't know what she did, but star is the miracle-working pet groomer of San Diego. There are dog whisperers. Then there is Star. I was 100% pleased with everything about my pup's groom except for the way her "beard" was trimmed. This was just my preference, and nothing Star did wrong. I kindly asked her to reshape my girl's "beard" and she did so in a kind and beyond satisfactory manner. Whenever I have asked previous groomer's to change something, they either 1) explain to me how what they did was far superior to what I could want (and proceed to argue with me), or 2) act like I am causing them a serious inconvenience and should feel ashamed to ask. I am not certain when customer service became a thing of the past, but with Star, it is present. Before you become all judgy about the facial hair, I have a maltese-yorkie mix. Anyone who is familiar with either breed knows both male and female have beards. And besides that, so what if my female dog wants to have a beard? It's civil rights. It's the 90s. (10 points if you caught the movie reference) Star was and is a consistent joy to work with. She really has the softest heart for animals. OK groomer ... bad attitude. We have been taking our little guy to Star for about 5 years. In the beginning she was so friendly and had such an obvious love for dogs. Over the years her attitude has changed so much, I am pretty sure she doesn't like people, and am not even sure she likes dogs. In fairness, she is, as many of the reviews indicate, a good groomer. But, oh my, what an attitude! In addition to reviewers on Yelp, I know several people in the neighborhood who have had problems with her. If she treats her customers like that, I can only imagine how she treats the dogs when no one is looking. I just picked up Penny, our standard poodle puppy, 9 months old and a handful. She looks beautiful! Penny arrived at Star Grooming with burrs, uneven coat, dirty and not brushed for weeks. Star is a true pro and can turn a tom girl into a show stopper. I'll never go to anyone else. Star also groomed my Tibetan Terrier for years until we lost her to cancer last year. I simply called to inquire about rates and availability, looking for a new and better groomer for my labradoodle. But We never made an appt here, and let me tell you why. When I called, I made my inquiry and she blatantly accused me of not taking care of my dog. I was stunned. My dog is my baby she is very well cared for! She then went on about how she wouldn't want to take my dog as her client anyway, saying I would just let her get matted "again and again". Woah that came out of NO WHERE! Star has been has been a godsend in helping us keep our terrier mix looking good! Our pup has a naturally wiry coat when it's long, which always made him a little rough to cuddle with. Star was the first groomer we talked to that was willing to shave him so just his soft undercoat remains (while keeping his scruffy beard so he still looks distinguished). Star is the absolute best! One a month she transforms Muppet from the easily-matted double-coated filthy little beach goer she is into the World's Cutest Dog. Some of that is her natural good looks, but Star's cuts bring out her best; she cuts her legs like little stove pipes to balance her body and she leaves enough beard to balance her face. I've had other groomers in the past who cut her either too short or not the right shape and she looks, well, not as cute. Star also does nails for my other two maniacs. Words can't give justice to their fully panicked crazy fear regarding having to get nail trims, but Star is so patient and gentle with them. No matter how wiggly or crazy they get, she never nicks or cuts them. Besides grooming, there are other reasons I go clear across town to see Star. She genuinely cares so much about my dogs. She loves to have Muppet in her shop and is extremely flexible about when I can drop her off and pick her up. She has lots of dog beds and lets the friendly ones roam freely around her shop while they are waiting for their people. Star always asks after my dogs, my family, and how we all are doing. She has recommended a trainer when I needed one, and when she noticed when my dogs' teeth needed cleaning she recommended a very reasonably priced vet (I liked them so much I completely switched over from my previous vet). Star is amazing! My dog is normally very nervous with being handled but is comfortable and safe with Star. Her ability with the dogs to put them at ease is very unique. Zazzy is a poodle mix and when she comes back she looks so cute and clean with a beautiful cut. Her work is truly exceptional. I would highly recommend her and do whenever I have a chance. She also sends out text reminders the week of our appointment which I find really helpful. I appreciate the calm environment that she has in her shop and the fact that there is only a few dogs at a time creating a peaceful shared space from all the dogs including her two. Star is an absolute grooming queen! She knows how to groom perfectly. I have a tiny teacup poodle and it's so hard to find a groomer that knows how to make her look like the perfect poodle, but Star sure knows how! She's also fast and officiant. My dog never sits in a cage all day, and isn't timid or scared when I pick her up. Which is a huge plus! Star helped my dog Cookie get rid of a longterm skin fungus. The fungus started when Cookie chewed on a flea bite. The saliva continued to feed the fungus until she had a secondary skin infection. Yucky black fungus spread inside her legs and abdomen. She was constantly licking it and irritating the problem. Star got her cleaned up and after a month or so the fungal infection was healed and never came back! When you bring you dog into be groomed Star is very careful to address any problems your pet might have and will get him cleaned up, pronto. Star is such a great groomer and you can tell she really takes the time to know and love your pet. Star has been grooming my dog Luna for about 2 years now. Luna is a Maltese Poodle mix senior dog with a heart condition so I am very protective of where I leave her when she has to be around other dogs. I have had no issues with taking two of my dogs here. My labradoodle is as friendly as it gets and wouldn't have been an issue for anyone, and has a fairly easy to manage coat. The yorkie is a bit more skittish but very obedient. Both were only simple trims and bathing, no fancy styles or anything. But both pups came out happy, healthy, clean, and with shorter hair than they came in with, which is what I came here for. The owner is friendly and promptly responsive in communication.
