    The Original Sloppy Jack

This place is everything I want in a diner and more. Comfy booths with stained glass beer chandeliers, friendly servers and patrons, reasonably priced yet delicious food, and cheap beer. My wife and I were driving back to Orlando from Tampa and decided to stop in Lakeland for food. Being that it was a Sunday, our idea of eating in downtown Lakeland was stopped short by an hour-long wait for a table at a different popular restaurant. I'm glad it was - or we never would've discovered this gem. I had The Original Sloppy Jack ($8.19) - an open faced roast beef sandwich topped with brown gravy and coleslaw. I was in meat heaven. It was so good. I think about this sandwich daily ever since. You can tell a place has a cult following because multiple people sitting near us were telling us how good the food is and what to order. We'll definitely come back when we're in town again.

It was my first time visiting and I wasn't sure what to do. I was able to stop one of the guys cleaning the tables and let me know just to sit wherever and someone would come help me. It took a bit but here came heather. She was great, had a fantastic knowledge of the menu, and kept my tea full. Once the order was in boy the kitchen was on fire, it came out so fast and tasted so good. I had the two egg breakfast with bacon deep fried, so good, and hash browns seasoned so good along with a side of biscuit and gravy. My only concern, watch the order the tables sat down when taking orders. A table that came in several minutes after me got taken care of before I even had a drink, frustrating. But, with how fast the kitchen was, it wasn't too big of a concern.

The prices here are fantastic, service just as much and the food we ordered was very good. This hole-in-the-wall diner has been around for 50 years and I can see why! I am thinking they have quite the regular customers and I do believe we would be too, if we lived closer. I ordered a pastrami sandwich with the works and fries. The sandwich was fairly loaded with pastrami and the lettuce and onions were crispy, with a soft bun roll (you can order it toasted if desired). The fries were hot and crispy, and tasted good. The others in our party enjoyed their selections too. I do believe the tables and chairs are the originals from the 60s, when they made furniture (and what have not) that actually lasted a lifetime! Everything about this diner reminded me of my youth. They have daily specials we may make a trip for and try. Highly recommended establishment! 5 stars all the way for the combination of food quality, service and the great price point(s). We will be back, God willing.

This is the ultimate locals spot in Lakeland. It truly delivers every time. The workers make you feel at home and they are always efficient. Their eggs and toast are always spot on. A true diner feel with the great breakfast and lunch classics. Good luck finding any place that beats their prices. I will continue to go here every week!

Food was good, lost my appetite when i saw hair in my mayo. Disappointing to say the least. Took this photo before not realizing the hair.

Basic diner fare done cheap Some days you just want some eggs or some basic breakfast fare. This place is the quintessence diner, with the basic food you enjoy done right. It's not going to win awards, nor offer you great bites. But it will be good, and it's fairly cheap. Come here if your hotel breakfast sucks and you need something simple to get you going. It's not pretty, but it works

Always a favorite breakfast stop in Lakeland! We ordered two eggs, corn beef hash, biscuits and wheat toast with lots of coffee! Everything you order, will be delicious and very affordable! Our favorite employee, Tammy, was behind the counter and as usual, treated us like family. Far Jack's never disappoints!

Corn beef, pastrami, and salami subroll, half left!

I love this place. It's your classic diner food/vibes and super affordable. Considering its age it's extremely well kept.

I enjoy their red sangria (they have white as well, haven't tried it.) which is pretty delicious. They have a food truck every evening they are open generally from 3 until 8. We have tried a lot of them and most are very tasty. Our favorite so far was a Hawaiian lumpia (like spring rolls) food truck. They are very dog friendly. People not only bring their own fur kids but will take a dog out of the shelter for a few hours and bring them out. It's very heartwarming. Inside is clean. It's really chilly for us so if it's not raining we tend to go outside. There is frequent live music as well. You can find lineups on their Facebook page. Bartenders are very knowledgeable and nice!

My husband got a barrel aged beer...something called Driving my nuts. It was rested in Buffalo trace bourbon barrels, and while the buffalo trace is not very pronounced, you still get the flavor, especially after it warmed a little bit. I opted for the Irish red ale, which was incredibly good had the super sweetness when you first take a sip, very caramel tones and notes, but then mellow is very quick.

We ate in the bar here which is the least pleasant location (large dining area and outside are quieter in both the "drunk golfer" department and loud TV or music. But endurable. Though Social Media said Saturday brunch today, we were not offered it despite being within its hours. We would've enjoyed having breakfast for lunch, etc. Parking in the full lots are difficult-and we don't see that many on the course or in the restaurant. The menu is inviting. Great fish options. I chose the Quiet Man but didn't like the sensation of toasted bun and cold roast beef either temp for everything would've been better. Liked that some options were half sandwiches at $11 rather than over-priced, over-edible super-sized sandwiches. Would love for them to re-work their coleslaw. We like the lower calorie option over fries and chips but don't care for "their" recipe. Didn't see nor hear about desserts. Great food but fall short in advertising/social media, brunch clarity, dessert options, parking, noise.

I can't say the same for the food experience today. The mozzarella sticks tasted very plain and the marinara tasted like it was from one of those microwave frozen marinaras. It was just disgusting. I ordered the wings which the flavor was nice, but was semi-disappointed because I got 6 drums and 2 flats. Flats are better, but I just would assume I'd get at least 4 and 4. The fries were okay, not really very hot though. My wife got the chicken Philly with onion petals. She said the chicken Philly was okay and would probably get it again, but the onion petals were terrible. She said while they had a nice seasoning on the outside, more than half of them were still raw and crunchy (not from the batter), and luke warm to cold. The hostess was very friendly and loved our baby. The server, Benji, was great. He checked on us and refilled us without asking. He was friendly, but he'd make more at a place with higher quality food.

I switched to mayonnaise, which made it much better for me. The fried pickles on the sandwich were a little unusual, but not bad. I had tater tots on the side, and they were solid. My wife ordered the mini burgers with fries--both were pretty good. For dessert, we tried the apple tart (dumpling) with vanilla ice cream and caramel. It was a nice finish to the meal and enjoyable overall. Brianna was our waitress and did an excellent job. She checked on us regularly and provided very good service throughout.
