I have been a customer of Phil and his staff for years and have never been disappointed. In fact, I'm embarrassed that I haven't written a reco earlier. I trust their recommendations. If I tell them I need a wine to pair with a certain food and want to pay only "X," they recommend wines that fit my needs. In fact, sometimes they will recommend a less expensive option! For me, it's especially been the place to go if my wife and I are having guests because I know I can't go wrong. Pros: - Staff is pretty friendly, and most are willing to work with you to find a good wine. This one dude helped me pick out a Riesling, and the gf and I loved it. And I don't drink wine much either. - The location is nice, right on the Newton-Wellesley border by the Charles. Good for grabbing something at the last minute after work. - There's beer and liquor too. The selections are somewhat limited, but the beer is refrigerated and has a decent variety. Cons: - The prices are aimed at Newton/Wellesley residents. Read: not cheap. - Their parking lot is a trap, especially around rush hour. Don't park there when Route 16 is packed. You need to wait for a traffic light to get onto the road. Park on the street instead. read more

When it comes to package stores, Wellesley is a dry town. But on each border there is a liquor store just over the line. This one is on Newton side of the Wellesley-Newton border. This is not a large store, but they have a really nicely curated collection of wine and the staff are really helpful with advice. You can find really expensive items for gifts and special occasions, but they also have everyday wines, and they are very helpful when you're picking things out, they will talk to you about your menu and what would work best, and not just recommend the latest celebrity vineyard. There isn't a lot of liquor selection other than wine. There is a small parking lot but the location can be awkward to get in and out of. read more

My favorite wine store in the greater Boston area - some of the most helpful sommeliers who always have fantastic suggestions based on your mood, menu, budget - I have never been let down. In addition - they also stock a great selection of beer - domestic and import - as well as the standard issue liquor. Don't forget wine tastings on the weekends and some evenings. Some positive things, I'm in the area often and the location is convenient for me, they have parking, and they have us covered, my wife drinks inexpensive wine and I drink bourbon. I don't like how the wine is upright on tables, you can't see the labels, in other wine stores the bottle is on a shelf that lets you look at it without having to crouch or move the bottle. I'm trying to give you my money, why make it difficult to shop? The store and the falls behind it are attractive but the feeling that I get from most of the people that work there is, at best, indifferent. I've come to understand that there are two owners, one of them is the only source of warmth and friendliness in the store. For the other owner, indifference would be an immense improvement. Every time I ask this person about an inexpensive wine I get a huge eye roll, so strong that I'm surprised he doesn't tip over backwards. I've watched him do this to men and women alike, maybe he thinks that treating people poorly is a good way to do business, I can't imagine how he treats the people that are around him on a regular basis. I patronize this business because of the convenience, it saves me time, but the feeling I get from all but one person there is that I'd better not ask about inexpensive wine, as though I have to like what they like, and it's weird. read more

When we moved to Watertown, finding a liquor store was one of our musts. Husby found this place on his way home from work when I called and asked for some wine. He came back raving about this place. We threw a dinner party last Saturday and needed wine, whiskey, Prosecco, beer, etc. This place looks very nice from the outside and it is bright with an airy feel on the inside. Everyone was really pleasant and friendly, offering their assistance. Their selection was pretty good and I liked they had Cain Cuvee. I know some things about wine but am far from being an expert - however, I do know what I like. One lovely lady explained the different flavors of some Malbecs and suggested ones that were not too peppery for me. I liked that she didn't try to only talk well of the more costly bottles but gave her honest opinion. The prices seemed what I expected to pay. We ended up buying over $150 worth of stuff there and they packed it securely in a box. While we are set for now, we will definitely be back for more. read more

My brother just returned from Dessert storm, a while ago... We were new to Massachusetts and he didn't have a MA DL or ID. The man at lower falls would not sell him anything without a MA ID or DL. I found this to be disgusting. The man's demeanor was pompous and patronizing. Initially my friend was angry, then he became very sad. Really ruthless people. Anti-american. read more

I stopped in here to buy beer for my husband. The staff could not have been nicer. I don't drink beer, and I have no idea how to pick a beer because it all tastes awful to me (blasphemy, I know) but the staff was extra helpful. Yes, it's expensive, but if you're looking for great customer service, you can't beat this store. read more
