They overcharge!! Always ask for a receipt. My fiance and I went a few weeks ago and the man checking us out mumbled the final price (there was nothing on the machine showing it) and when we got home, he had been charged $50 for two bottles of wine - both had been listed as under $20 in the store. We went again last night and he got charged $33 for a $25 bottle. When he asked for a receipt, the man sheepishly handed him the receipt + $6 in cash and just said "oops". I'm a 25-year-old Black female from NJ who stopped here on a trip back to my alma mater. The clerk watched me from the second I stepped into the establishment. There were numerous other patrons who did not attract as much attention. They have a wide variety of liquor, which is awesome, but when I got to the front, my ID was ran through the system...the two White patrons before me were not questioned, with one being around the same age as me. His excuse was that out-of-state IDs can be tricky....despite me being well-over 21 years old. This was not a great welcome back to my old stomping ground. Since my ex-boyfriend's fake ID is posted on this place's Wall of Shame, I used to have the pleasure of spending many a friday and saturday evening running into Mr. K's to buy him and his friends alcohol while he/they sneakily waited inconspicuously in the strategically parked minivan outside the Chinese restaurant. Im 21 and the employee who was working there questioned my ID to the point where I told him I didnt want to go through the hassle. He then smugly and triumphantly accused me of lying about my age. I showed him a facebook post of my own mother wishing me a happy 21st birthday but that wasnt enough....telling me he couldnt serve me. I have to give it to this place, it may be small, but it carries all the essentials of a good liquor store, including a fairly decent beer and wine selection. The staff is friendly and the prices are a bit high but it is as convenient as you can get especially if you are coming down Route 9/Boylston and there are no other Liquor Stores in the vicinity. Plus it is next store to a new CVS and that makes it even more convenient. I give it extra kudos for having late hours and braving the many snow storms by staying open. read more

When I called to tell them the $7 bottle of cider I just bought from them was sour, the guy told me he could replace it with Woodchuck. And watch the price tickets: the "each @ 2 for 1" price is prominently displayed on a lot of bottles, but you have to search carefully for the single bottle price. The reason I gave five stars is because Mr. K's provides me with everything I need and have throughout the years. From fine wines to my favorite beverages. What is amazing, is such a smaller store has such a large selection of goods! ( they even carry "make your own cigerettes" items as tobacco and the accessories ). As far as cost Mr. K's is extremely competitive and usually lower that their competitors! This is a family run store and without question some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet! read more

There're a lot of mixed and old reviews on this store. this is how i see it. Mr K's is the go to store on rt 9 that will be open late everyday, including sundays till 11:00 pm, holidays, and crappy weather. if you're local you're bound to run into some old faces on a sunday night. it is conveniently located for all near by communities that close at 6, 9, and 10 pm. (needham, wellesley, brookline, dover, even weston) ok, so the guys are new and are iffie about taking out of state IDs. you have to realize college kids go there and try to pull a fast one and the owner's livelihood is compromised. I was there when a young lady was about to buy a couple of hundred dollars worth of alcohol and was turned down. they could have easily turned a blind eye and made the hefty sale, but didn't. their selection is wide and ample a lot bigger than the previous management. check the whisky selection and you'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm a poor guy so i can't afford it. Anyways, Mr. K's and the friendly staff get my thumbs up. read more

It's so convenient for those of us who spend so many hours stuck on route 9, and while it may be smallish, the staff was so friendly and helpful. "Sir could you hold that from the bottom..." "Sir...Sir" The guy at the checkout had stopped what he was doing with a line about 4 customers deep to make sure I wasn't holding my coors light 30-pack by the designated handle it comes with. I finally adhered to his request when I realized he was actually talking to me. He proceeded to explain that "sometimes the bottoms can break" and that "he would be the one to clean it up". Thanks bro, just let me buy my beer in peace. As if I hadn't carried two of these across campuses every Thursday for 4 years. Beer and wine..nothing special here..just your average liquor store. The place is a bit small. There not very wheelchair friendly. it tight to move around. And no power door. So if your in a wheelchair you will need to bring someone to help you. read more

Tried to use my license to buy stuff here, and apparently they don't take out of state IDs. Went back with someone who had an in state ID, and we were yelled at and accused breaking the law. If you don't want to sell to us fine, but don't treat me like a criminal just because you can't recognize an out of state ID. read more

Open until 11 pm, which is later than just about anywhere else in the area. Mr. K's has a great selection of wine and beer. The staff are extremely helpful and won't hesitate to spend a lot of time with you making a selection. read more

Place is under new ownership and the prices are now ridiculously high, my usual bottle of wine is now $15.99 here, it's $10.99 most other places. This combined with owners who talk to each other in their own language while at checking out is the end for me. This place is great... it's the only liquor store in the area open til 11:00 everyday (even Sundays) and I swear after 6:00pm the place turns into the local pub. The guys that work there are always in a good mood and they actually have a decently diverse beer and wine section, that most of them know something about. Also, if you grew up in Newton/ Needham, you definately know somebody on the wall of shame, if you're not up there yourself! (I went in there once and heard somebody say 'hey that's my kid up there!'"
