Last thing in the world I want to do is complain about Lowes Foods in Clayton, NC. this location has been a good "go to" store for many years as we live relatively close by. Several complaints, all in 2026: Had to take back toothpaste that appeared it "might" have been opened and scotch taped over. No problem, the young lady was very helpful and took care of it. Great Customer Service. Some negatives: Four different occasions the broccoli crowns had grit/sand in them even after being washed. The worst part was the deli broccoli salad had grit in them, and this was unacceptable as this was a dish set aside for visiting guests. Could not eat it. Did not take it back but did alert customer service. Today 5/14/2026 was just the latest kicker. Picked up some "Cherry" labeled turnovers to take home. Upon taking one to sample, I discover that they were Apple. I head back to the store, receipt in hand and instead of replacing the box, I simply wanted my money back. $5.99 plus tax coming to $6.39. The young man attended to me decided that I should only receive $6.35 due to a penny shortage. How much trouble would it have been to simply give back to me $6.40? That does not even pay for the gas trip there and back and the hassle. Normally, I would just let this go, but I have seen this location "slipping' in my onion as of late. I can understand mistakes and forgive them easily, BUT I will not tolerate bad customer service. I have left out a few things, but this shall suffice for now. Thank you Lowes for being a trusted service in the past, but not this year. I endeavor to take my business to Harris Teeter on 42 east or the Walmart. I have had it. read more

This is truly by far the best place to shop on 70. It is always clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is always fresh and the prices are decent. Yes, we would all enjoy lower prices but then the quality of the food would also be lower. You get what you pay for. The issue I continuously have here is the marking and placement of items. They don't pay attention to detail when pricing and stacking their shelves, freezers or coolers. The major issue is always the seafood area. On more than one occasion I have had to have a price double checked. This wastes my time and everyone else waiting. There are times when they honor the signs and others when they don't. Even though they have multiple items placed there. They truly need to do better in this area. read more

Its been awhile since I've been here, definitely pre-covid times. The store is really cool and I love the setup. They have a bar, with several local beers on tap. They have a full deli, bakery, sausage works and a floral section. This place has a higher-end feel than a typical grocery store. Personally, I enjoy the fresh produce and the pre packaged trays. The "cakery" as they call it has lots of options for cake ordering and they even have mini squares for purchase if you don't want a whole cake. The delivery area, has a hot food section where you can get hot fried chicken and fixings. The cold part of the deli has sandwiches, loaded potatoes, salads, pastas etc. My kids enjoy the sausage works station because of the buttons they can push that make noise and move. I enjoy the sausage works area because they have a large selection of sausage flavors, with cheese, garlic, spicy seasonings etc. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is the price. They are higher than other grocery stores in the area and I rarely see any deals with coupons. They do offer "barn burner" sales, which are usually ok, not amazing. read more

When did a box of cheese it's cost $7 or a bag of Doritos cost $6!? Bread was almost $9-$10!!! This is wrong literally the prices in this store we're outrageously price gouged. This is not a Whole Foods or some upscale grocery store. Both foodlion and Harris teeter have the same products for literally half if not more than half. Corporate greed I do not recommend coming here and they also lack so much food that is literally everywhere else. I do not recommend. This is comparable to a Foodlion not a Publix. read more

Lowes Foods in Clayton is not only a bright and clean store with a friendly staff, but it is my go to for sushi. The Asian couple who create the fresh sushi daily are very friendly and the quality is second to none. Forget pricey restaurants. Theirs is the best hands down. read more

I recently relocated to the Clayton area and this store is not far from my home. I came in on a weekday morning for my first visit wanting to take my time and see the stores layout and offerings. I was in the bakery/deli section looking through some of the prepackaged, cooked on site meals when I hear someone yelling excuse me. At first I didn't realize someone was talking to me so the second time I heard it I turned around. One of the employees was standing behind me with a couple of packages items to put on display. When I noticed she was talking to me she rudely announced again "excuse me" and the look she gave me indicated how annoyed she was that I was in her way. I spent years working in retail and many many times I've been stocking shelves and had customers either looking where I need to be or standing in front of where I need to be. I put my items down, find something else to work on and go back to that area when the customer has left; after all, without customers purchasing items, I would not have had a job. I would like to note if she had been polite and asked if she could set those down real quick, I would have gracefully stepped to the side and allowed her. Instead her tone of voice and the glare she choose to give me makes me a non returning customer. One customer will not matter to you, but customer service and politeness matters to me. read more

This is such a beautiful grocery store. (Is that a weird thing to say? Oh well.) While this is not where I do most of my grocery shopping, I like to come here for the ~experience~ now and then. :) The different little departments (SausageWorks, the Beer Den, the Cake factory, etc) make shopping here fun. I love craft beer, and the selection here is the best of all the local grocery stores. (Plus, they have local beers on tap that you can sample, or even get a pint of, right there in the store!) Another yummy thing worth mentioning is their sushi bar. They have a great variety, it's always SO fresh, and it's affordable. Yes, please. Finally, my favorite thing about Lowes Foods is this: I was born and raised in NC and grew up on a farm, so the focus on all things local tugs at my heartstrings. I adore the support they have for our farmers. So even though they might be a little pricier than other grocery stores, I'll always stop in from time to time. read more

I can't get over how rude the cashiers are here. I've been going off and on for about 6 years and every time I go I say I'll never go back, but still end up here for the convenience near my home. Plus I think... it can't possibly be that bad this time, can it?? The answer has always been YES. Besides purchasing bad seafood more than once, they lack really basic items that you simply can't get here. Just moved into the area and found Lowes on a whim when I stopped in the plaza for my cable box. I personally would like to thank the marketing genius that put the Beer Den in Lowes. As a bachelor, I RARELY food shop, and when I do, its at a Walmart so i can get in and out fast. I did not mind one bit, grabbing a beer from the den and taking sometime to walk around the store to make my selections. I might actually shop for groceries and cook myself a meal instead of ordering a pizza... Thanks Lowes for helping to improve my diet through beer! As another reviewer down below referenced, this is a huge win to get men grocery shopping with/for their wives. I know my father would now have a valid excuse as to why he forgot something or brought home Fat Free Peanut Butter when the list clearly says JIF.... And, with the Lowes card, the more you spend, the more you save on gas. What could be better? read more

Who ever the person was that thought of putting a tap room in a grocery store was a marketing genius. Men really don't like grocery shopping. They were happy to drop their significant other at the door and sit in the parking listening to the radio. However, Lowes Foods changed all that. Now it's"I don't mind going in with you, shoot I will even push the cart while you fill it up...and I'll have a beer while we are walking the ailes. But wait, there is more, there are just as many women that enjoy shopping while sipping as men. My wife is one if them. We will go in and hang out a few minutes with "The Den Master" and then go get what we came for. By the time we finish our pint we are at the cashiers and out the door. There is a two pint limit which makes sense. Thursday is Thirsty Thursday when pints are half price. So, who ever thought this idea up, I'd like to buy you a beer. read more

I had an unfortunate unkind encounter on last Saturday morning November 2nd, 2019. I went into the store pretty early looking for a certain item, however, the item I needed wasn't available. I selected some other items and went to check out. The cashier charged me $6.99 for an item that was $4.99 and she corrected the amount. The next item she incorrectly charged me for was produce. I purchased one bundle of the produce which was clearly marked $1.99 - however, she charged me $4.99 for not one bundle but two. When I corrected her, she resisted and said, "no that's what the price is coming up as", I refuted her statement, and said that the correct charge was $1.99. She again stood her ground that the produce was $4.99. I walked back to the produce area and took a picture of the bundle and the price and took it back to the cashier. By that time this very loud and extremely rude front end manager was there and making the adjustment(s) for both items. She told me had I ASKED for a manager instead of walking back to the produce department, she would have corrected it. I insisted that a customer shouldn't have to "PROVE" that the item I purchased was less than your cash register. I am not sure if any other customers have experienced this type of rude and unacceptable behavior, nor am I saying I won't go back in Lowes' again, but, I will be more attuned to the cashier' and the front end managers and the prices that are listed on the items before I get to the cashier. The cashier was young and very unimpressionable, no greeting, no smile nothing kind or friendly about her. Very stoic and cold. Maybe Lowe' needs to give their cashiers a lesson on being a little warmer and more acceptable of their customers. This little chick clearly hates her job, and wishes her parents didn't make her work on a early Saturday morning. Lowe' you FAILED horribly. Fix it! read more

We LOVE this store! It's a tad pricey, but their produce and friendly staff make this place well worth it. The sushi selection, beer den and wine selection is definitely awesome. The bakery is amazing. They gave my son a free cookie for being a good boy and he was tickled! Seriously, this place is more than a grocery store. read more

I just want to mention how great the fried chicken is in this store! I can't stand fried chicken from fast food places and haven't eaten any in years. I did have some earlier this year at what are considered very good restaurants in the Raleigh area, but they just did not measured up to the chicken I had from Lowe's today. I am amazed! Fried food in general is not my normal diet, but once in a while (and I mean like literally once every 4-5 months) I just need a piece of fried chicken so it HAS to be good. I found my new fried chicken maker in the man at Lowe's!!! Now, their baked goods... meh... the only thing really worth eating are the muffins... but hey... that's a review for another time, because I want this one to be all about The Chicken Man!!! ;-) read more

Harris Teeter prices for Kroger level merchandise. That's how I've always felt about Lowe's Foods as a chain. The store is dark, and has a depressing feel to it, mainly because of the dark wood on the floors. I think it's supposed to come off as classy. Nope. Just not enough light. You can get decent meat and seafood here, but it's not much better than a Kroger, and you'll pay a $2-3 premium per pound for the privilege. I've found the staff friendly and helpful, and the checkouts reasonably well staffed. It's also moderately clean. One thing that they do offer (and which most Lowe's offer) is the ability to order online and pick up without leaving your car, for a $5 service fee. The service, in and of itself, is a great one. Keeps me from having to go in that store if I must. The biggest issue is that the online system they use doesn't keep very good track of the inventory for that store. So, you'll order something, and it will be out of stock, or not even carried at the location. They do call you, and let you know, but it is a letdown. Especially when the items that are missing are the ones you were looking forward to the most. Notes: The parking lot is poorly designed for the traffic flow. I mean, it's bad. As with most grocery stores, avoid on weekends and during rush hour. read more

My favorite grocery store, but please tell the young healthy energetic clerks who could easily carry several bags up a flight of steps that just because they CAN fill the brown bags full does not mean that they should. This may be my favorite store to shop at. Need flowers? The florist here is super sweet and helpful, the three times I've needed a arrangement done in a very small time frame she has delivered exceptional results. If she happens not to be there in the afternoon, they usually have pre-made beautiful flower/rose arrangements in the fridge. What about cake? The bakery has made me two delicious and gorgeous cakes. Once for a baby shower and then again for Mother's Day. The main Baker ( I believe ) is the nicest lady I've ever met! Always find the groceries I need and get out of there faster than I would at Wal-Mart or Food Lion. Only reason I don't shop here as much is because it's a bit further from me than these other places. read more

Cashiers are always nice to me. The prices are a bit high. However, the store is beautiful and everything is kept very clean and tidy.

The customer service is pretty good, but the prices at this place is the highest that I've seen in any grocery store. Its unfortunately the closest one by my house until a different grocery chain (hopefully soon) opens up. I go to only pick up a few things. The salad bar is terrible, and the items taste very old and extremely dry, also the organic produce section is very small, and the veggies/fruits are usually moldy. High prices for a town like Clayton. I feel this store is way overpriced, food lion is about 1to 2 bucks cheaper on most items. I lived in Northern Va , Seattle, and Baltimore and paid less for food, even with todays food prices they are still cheaper! I think a Wegmans has way better quality with way cheaper prices. Maybe they can figure out they are in Clayton, and not New York!! You get 20 items here you at least spend 20 to 40 bucks more a shopping. read more

Lowes foods has the BEST fried Chicken and Dreamy Creamy Cole slaw we have ever had. Hubby and I have bought this dinner pack several times and love it. We have had fried chicken at Smithfield Chicken but this beats Smithfield Chicken by a mile. Give it a try, you will love it.!!! read more

While the store has a wide assortment of products, I find their business practices somewhat unethical. This Christmas they artificially elevated the prices of their meat to take advantage of the holidays. The meat cost them the same amount to get from their supplier, so to grossly overcharge their clients to increase their profits especially around the holidays, I find repugnant. I recently celebrated my son's 13th birthday and decided to cater some food and a cake. I placed the order on line about a week before the event, with no hassles, and easy to order process with full food and price description stated. The food was nicely prepared, with quality cold cuts and cheese as purchased. The cake was the kids favorite, probably the best tasting birthday cake I've purchased in some time. I think the prices were adequate, for the food quality and presentation (you get what you paid for). Finally, the store itself is one of my favorites simply for the best Deli, meats, seafood and bakery in town. I would definitely cater again for other events, and would recommend them to everyone. read more
