I have to agree with the general consensus that Lowe's customer service is terrible. A couple of years ago, they were positioning themselves as being a better alternative to Home Depot. Perhaps a couple of years ago, they were. Since the recession started, it seems like Home Depot has tried really hard to improve service and seems to be courting the contractors a lot harder than Lowe's. I am a contractor and spend tens of thousands of dollars each year at stores like Home Depot, Lowe's, and Friedman's. I spend many, many hours at these stores all over the North Bay, so am not basing my score on one or two anecdotal experiences. Here is my latest example of my experience at Lowe's: About two years ago, I did a remodel involving kitchen cabinets. Recently, I needed to buy an additional cabinet for the same project. We gave Lowe's a shot back then and were mostly satisfied with the quality, price, and service. I figured it would be best to go back to them to get the identical products. Since I still had the paperwork from before, I needed very little help. I looked up additional info. from the manufacturer's website, so all I needed was to get pricing, and then place the order. Since Lowe's in Cotati is 45 minutes away, I tried to do this over the phone. I called the kitchen department one weekday and explained what I wanted. I initially only needed prices on a couple of different cabinets so I could decide which best fit the budget. The man who answered told me that he couldn't help me over the phone and that I had to come into the store. I explained the distance and the fact that I knew exactly what I wanted. He got mad and snapped at me that "I don't have time to take phone calls. I have customers in the store I have to help!" According to this "Lowe's Logic", if I went into the store and sat in front of him, I wouldn't be taking his time away from other customers; somehow I would only be doing that over the phone. It was over four weeks before I found myself in the area to stop by the Cotati store. I went to the kitchen department and after wandering around and checking with the appliance department, "Don" finally showed up at the counter. I gave him my information and he entered a quote. I asked him why we couldn't have done this 5 minute transaction over the phone. He said that Lowe's did not allow him to take orders over the phone. I asked him if I had to come back into the store to actually place the order once I decided which cabinet I wanted. He said "no", that once the quote was in the system, I could just call back and place the order. I called back the next morning and asked for Don. He didn't answer the phone, so I left my information, explaining that I wanted him to call me back so I could place the order. 24 hours later, without getting a call, I called back. This time they told me that Don didn't come in until 12:15, and that another person could help me. After transferring me and putting me on hold, the operator said that the woman who could have helped me was off that day. "You mean there is no one in your entire store that can help me place a cabinet order until the afternoon?" She said she would transfer me to Appliances. After about 20 rings with no answer, I hung up. Back to the cabinet maker's website (Kraftmaid Cabinetry), I looked up where they sold their products. Home Depot was listed. I called the Napa Home Depot. The woman who answered said that she did not order cabinets, but that she'd take my information and someone would call me back. Ten minutes later, "Dan" called, took my info., and placed the order. My transaction has to be the most profitable type possible for these stores. I needed no hand-holding or design time - I just needed someone to place an order and take my money. I still never have heard back from Lowe's. read more

I was patient enough to wait and get helped by an employee who told me to come back in 30 mins to pick up some paint. When I returned, I asked "I'm here for a pick up?", and she immediately was back talking to me in a very disrespectful way as she stared at me up and down. Don't recommend getting paint from their department, I would recommend buying paint from Home Depot. read more

So, how hard is it to have a key made? I was directed by a very nice cashier to the key desk. No one was at the counter, a customer was standinf there and he had pressed the bell. An announcement came over the loud speaker...twice. An older gentleman walked up, told him he was with someone else and would have to wait. The two of us stood there. Another person walked up several minutes later and pushed the button. The same guy walked up and snarled "i TOLD you I'm busy, what's your problem". We all looked at each other and all walked out the door. I went to Home Depot, got the same directions, no one was at the station so I pushed the identical button as the one at lowe's. I timed it. 40 seconds. A charming woman came up, made my six keys, chatted me up while she was doing it and made sure there was nothing else I needed. This is at least the third time something like this has happened at Lowe's. My first choice is Friedmans but after today they might be second. Lowe's wont ever be on the list again. read more

The only reason I gave a 2 star review is that it had "paste the wall" wallpaper paste when no one else did. But their service is awful! I had to return some of the paste (bought too much) and thought I'd pick up something to protect and seal a new natural birch table. There was no one in the paint dept and after a couple of calls for assistance a guy showed up. Maybe he was having a bad day, but I'm a high school math teacher and not an expert in this field; so I was expecting help. When asked, he pointed to the correct aisle and said I needed stain and polyurethane. This is why I don't shop at Lowe's. I came back to the paint counter after looking at the stains and such and said that I really wanted help, that I need recommendations. He pretty much rolled his eyes and said that he wasn't a designer but would put a bit of the stain I chose on a stick so that I could see the color. He reiterated that I needed a can of stain and a can of polyurethane and sent me back to the aisle. After reading the fine print on some cans I chose what I thought I needed and walked to the checkout area. I noticed that the paint guy (name withheld here) was looking at stuff in his phone. Now, why couldn't he have come back to the area down the aisle that had the products and helped me? There are 2 other home improvement stores in the area that have great customer service. After I checked out I looked for the store's manager to express my disappointment at their customer service, but he was too busy talking to other customers. Another thing......the first thing you see walking into Lowe's is a huge display of Roundup products. They're encouraging customers to poison their ground. Awful read more

Lowe's kills me. They have so many ready to use products that you don't have to build, and the isles are fun to roam, but don't talk to the employee's because they are about as savvy as a box of hair when it comes to knowing the products they sell. I went over to the store yesterday to purchase door knobs and hinges for a cabinet and asked they guy who worked there (who happened to be standing INFRONT of the display) if he knew where the hinges I needed were located. After he blankly stared at the wall, until I found them, and then pulled out 4 packages of them (when I said I needed 4 total) He had no idea they were sold in pairs. Next was looking for contact paper for shelves. The next associate I asked, led me on a goose chase through isle after isle, stopping at what he called 'the cedar area where they have stuff you shove in shoes, so they like must have what you want'. I couldn't run out of the store fast enough. So why two stars? because if you venture into the store, and navigate the shelves on your own, their products are decent and a good price, but god forbid you ask for help. happy hunting. read more

Great appliance salesperson, delivery was a disaster! My wife and I went to by a washer and dryer. Had a great experience with the salesperson. Bought a nice Whirlpool W/D and was out of there in 30 minutes. They offered free delivery which sounded great, nope. It was all downhill from there. The delivery was one problem after another. I asked to speak to the delivery manager. Now, I'm clear where the problem originates. Its top down. The scheduler and delivery people can't get it, if management doesn't. I purchased some building materials from your online site. I went to pick them up at the store and found that the order was incorrect.I had asked the counter customer service rep, after trying to get the order corrected and not getting anywhere with them, no help at all, to please call a manager so that we could solve the problem with my order. After waiting 20 minutes, a manager had still NOT answered the page to come to help. I eventually gave up, left the order, and left the store for good. I am updating my kitchen cabinets and I went to Lowes where I saw a nice selection. I made an appointment with the Manger of the Kitchen Project department. The first meeting went well. I called about a week later to make another appointment to finalize my plans. I am spending about $11,000 on cabinets and countertops and a new fridge. I am a 45 minute drive from the store. The appointment was for 9:00 am and I rushed out of the house early to get there. When I arrived at the store he was not there, and another representative casually said "Oh, he doesn't get in until 10:15. He never writes down his appointments, but I remember asking him about when to make yours and he said 9. Needless to say they have lost my business, and a big order. We bought a whirlpool range. which Took a few months to deliver. plugged it in and it worked for 6 days. Called customer service and they were helpful. Sent a truck with a new range. Fast forward 6 months and range quits working AGAIN! Called customer service after 45 minutes I was disconnected. Another 30 minutes and they said you need to call Whirlpool. Called Whirlpool and they don't do returns and someone will call you sometime to come out to fix it. I don't even want this stove anymore. Terrible headache and no one has called us. I have a plumber coming to install a dishwasher I ordered from Lowes. They give delivery time of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Obviously I don't want to pay a plumber for 12 hours just to to wait around for the dishwasher. So I try to call to get SOME idea of when they're likely to come. Just spent 40 minutes on the line waiting for service. Two times the line went dead after about 15 minutes. Wow, I'm really impressed with Lowes customer service. I ordered custom Levolor blinds for a bay window. Within a few weeks, the biggest one broke. Lowes replaced it right away. Then the replacement broke. Told Lowes I really don't want to keep replacing these, and would prefer a refund on the whole order. Though two of the blinds were fine, I'd explained they are in a bay window where all have to match, so I'll be forced to replace even the working ones. With no hassle other than sending a short video showing the problem, they refunded the entire order. Even for the blinds that were fine. That is really impressive customer service in this day and age. read more

should be a zero but not an option....... so I ordered some products, canceled them 2 days later over the phone x2 because I have done this dance before with Lowe's and they failed the best and brightest test. ANYWAY I canceled my order TWO DAYS after I placed it. They ignored the cancellation and 3 weeks later loaded it on a truck. the guy on the truck called me to let me know they would be delivering. I explained that the order was canceled 3 weeks ago. So they FINALLY REFUNDED MY MONEY for the order BUT NOT THE 100.00 delivery fee. After 4 hours of HOLD, WAIT WHILE I TRANSFER YOU ETC, I gave up. Lowe's has my delivery fee but I got no delivery and canceled the order 48 hours after I made it AND THREE WEEKS BEFORE THEY TRIED TO DELIVER THE CANCELED ORDER. LOWES is dumbed down and they capitalize on the whole dumb down and they count on our exasperation to make their margins. And may I add this is not my first LOWES RODEO. read more

This place overall is dreadful, confusing, unpleasant, cheaply run, with few choices and overall lack of quality. I don't like Home Depo much but overall it is a lot better than this place, with better quality, selection, and more actual human workers to help you. The store has an amazingly limited selection of items, and of brand choices or types of choices of the items that they have. For the most part, they have a huge number of the same few things. A case in point is the "wood filler" selection, with no real wood dough that one could drill or which would actually hold a screw. It was basically nothing but a huge amount of the same few basic wood fillers that are just little more than a simple patch. I had to go elsewhere to get the real wood dough I needed that could hold a screw. Service is minimal and hard to find, with the store largely relegated to automated checking, a stupid system that is impersonal, unpleasant, unreliable, and makes it even harder to obtain help from an actual person. Prices, overall, are not particularly good, either. It's not overpriced, but it doesn't noticeably beat out others. The only good point really is that this place had the bamboo fencing that we were looking for, and at a reasonable price. read more

We shop ar Lowes often, and we always have a good experience. However this time, Labor Day, we had an EXCEPTIONAL experience thanks to Jim in Flooring! He went out of his way to get on a ladder, haul down 400 lbs of tile, then help us with our Kerdi Shower System, then looked up our shower door hardware to see if we could get an alternate finish for us....all with a big warm smile on his face! The store itself and the prices are comparable to the "other" home improvement store that uses a lot of orange. However, the customer service is here is sub-par at best. I rented one of their flatbed trucks to transport some lumber for a fence project I was doing and it seriously took 25 minutes for the staff to hand me the keys and copy my information down. One of the staff had this arrogant vibe going on that I didn't appreciate, especially since he looked like he was in high school. Speaking of which, the age of the staff here contrasts greatly to the other hardware stores as Lowe's apparently only hires college students. I'd skip this one and head up the road to Home Depot, Friedman's, or Ace. read more

I would give no stars. except that it isn't an option. Where do I start ? After going through the process of ordering a special front door, and making several visits to the store, and paying out $4000.00 up front. We find that after waiting 6 months we are having to cancel the order. The original time frame was not met as it hadn't arrived at the store. The seond time, due to the door being damaged upon the installer going to pick it up. The door was reordered and a new date in December given. We were then called in December and told that the door had arrived but we had to wait 6 weeks until January 22, as the installer wasn't available. We called the 21st of January and confirmed with their installer that he would be here. We waited and after an hour called him to see when we could expect him. We then get a call from the lady at Loew's that the door that arrived over 6 weeks ago is the wrong jamb size. Don't go to Loew's to special order anything our advice. read more

So far, not a good experience - unconscionably slow and absent responses. We bought a major appliance several weeks agao, with the assurance from all the sales people that it would be delivered and installed a week ago, and certainly well before Christmas. Well.. that didn't happen. We call and get no responses, other than being told it will be "after Christmas." They are too short staffed to even answer the phone. The persons that talked to us will not return calls. I know the holidays are difficult for retail. However, that is not an excuse to sell something and promise it will be delivered, take the customer's money, fail to deliver on the promise, and not even have enough staff to answer the phone. It seems a shame to think that you have to get all their promises in writing. I wish we had made them commit in writing to a date. read more

I wanted to price an exterior door from them. I already knew it was $980 from real door suppliers, but I was interested in getting a price from them. Never got thru to the door, or any, department for that matter. After waiting for quite a long time, the phone was answered and I asked for the door department. I was disconnected. To make a long story shorter the same thing happened 5 times. Only the final result changed. The second time I was transferred to dead air. Third time disconnected again. Fourth time asked for the lady's name and was hung up on. Fifth time same as fourth, different woman. Sixth time I called back no one answered. I decided to write this. Have never done this before. I read quite a few negative reviews and agree with most. Spend the extra money. Shop local. Buy real quality and get real service. I tried Lowes thinking they might be different than Home Depot. Beyond disappointed with their washer delivery service. To be fair they may contract out for this service but still they should be aware of what the delivery company is putting their customers through. We had a washer delivery scheduled. They turned around twice on two separate days without telling us - we only found out when we called them. When we told them that the delivery was time sensitive they said they would schedule us for the next day and that they would call us in the morning to let us know when. When they didn't call us, we called them... only to find out that we weren't scheduled until the following day... when no one could be at the house. We still don't have a washer and I'm not confident that we are getting one. read more

Don't buy appliances from Lowe's!! We purchased a Midea Dishwasher MDT24H3AST from Lowes back in August 18, 2020. We also purchased the (Lowe's Protection Plan) extended warranty. The machine looked great, worked great until February. In February 19, 2021, the latch broke to the dishwasher and we noticed damage to our cabinets from steam that escaped or was escaping. We called Lowe's - They said it is under manufacturer warranty. We call Midea, explained the problem, sent pictures, and they said that a repair technician would be in touch in a few days to fix the latch. But two days later, they said that the steam damage was not their problem because they came to the conclusion that "damage was done during installation or transportation that was causing the door to not close properly". BS! What they are referring to is a "dent", if you can call it that, on the inside corner of the machine, which is smaller than the tip of your pinky finger is to blame for the steam escaping. It's so small that we never even noticed it. We did not cause this "dent", as it is on a strong piece of metal and would not be possible to create by hand. The machine had to have come this way. MIDEA is refusing to make it right. Oh, and we still haven't heard from a repair tech to fix the latch. We called Lowe's back to hold them accountable for the VENDOR they are selling products for. If MIDEA won't make it right, we expect Lowe's to since they are selling MIDEA products. Well, we got an incident number and said someone from Lowes would be in touch within 24 hours. This was 5 days ago. We purchased the Lowes Protection Plan to avoid problems like this. We've been trying to get this fixed for 10 days and see no end in sight. We will never buy from Lowes again. And to add to the pain - the employees assigned to "assist" you with the diy check out kiosks? African American gurl assigned to these horrible kiosks had to help me because I was paying with a gift card. She threw my items onto the bagging side of the kiosk, got annoyed because I asked her for her assistance because the gift card had to be activated and then wished me an obligatory, condescending "have a nice day" greeting as I exited the store. I rarely take the time to complain and usually just shop someplace else after a bad experience, but today's Lowes experience was so poor I am taking the time to relay it to you. I received a notification today that my order (#70xxxxxx) was ready for pickup. This order was for $1,100+ worth of merchandise and included a bathroom vanity and other items that I have had trades lined up to install. A new employee named George looked up my order and said he would go look for it. The online order was not stored in the customer pick-up area so he went looking in the aisles. It was obvious that George was doing his best, but he had been left to his own resources with absolutely no assistance from anyone else. He came back, unable to find my items in stock in the aisles (all items except a mirror that had to be delivered showed in stock when I ordered them). I went with him and we looked in the aisles but could not locate them. George said he would find a manager. I watched as George tried in vain to find a manager in Customer Service. It took some time but he finally said something about finding an ASM (Assistant Manager?) which I can only assume was the bewildered looking woman that walked past me holding my receipt without uttering a word. She was joined by an equally perplexed looking man in a red vest and they set out on their quest. I am still not sure what they were looking for as they never communicated anything to me AT ALL. For all I know they found Sasquatch lurking in the garden department and will be on the evening news, or maybe they are still wandering around the store and will come back when they get hungry or something. Perhaps they never looked at all because no one seemed to know what was going on. After an hour and a half of watching customers become angry at the lack of assistance I got back in the Return line. After another half an hour waiting for assistance I asked for a manager. Andre (the Head Cashier) emerged from a small room to "help" me. Andre, while a nice young man, could offer nothing beyond telling me that he figures they are still looking for my order. The situation now leaves me with a choice. I ordered these items several weeks ago, dismantled a bathroom, hired a tile setter, waited for the order to come in and drove to Lowes which is some distance from my house. Cancelling the order is the last thing I want to do as it would mean that I had to shop again at another store, order items, go without a bathroom for several more weeks, pay and reschedule subcontractors etc.. If I had any, and I mean any, confidence that anyone at this Lowes cared or was competent to follow-up on my order, I would have waited for a verdict on my items' whereabouts. I looked around at the angry customers, the vapid faces on most of the employees, the abandoned carts full of returned but unprocessed returns and had Andre cancel my order. I understand that these are difficult times. Those that are working are busy. Everyone is on edge and that makes everything harder. I rarely blame employees and chose to think that most people will do their best if given the proper tools and training. Therefore, I am not upset with any of the employees but Store Management is another story. To quote my dad, "I'm not mad I'm just disappointed". Oh, and I won't be back. read more

I purchased a garage door opener with installation. The installation service was through a company call Handy. Handy will schedule an appointment for you and then post your "job" on an electronic bulletin board and "hope" that an Independent Contractor takes the job for the appointment time. If not, Handy sends you their apologies and reschedules the appointment and hopes for the best. Handy has indicated to me that they can't assign the jobs. For those folks who have tight schedules work, family care, etc., I don't think this is a very good business model. Customer service reps at Handy were polite and available on the phone but not much help. Lowe's staff were excellent and even helped me find an alternative garage door opener installer. This is a shout out to "Bob" who works in appliances but who is the most knowledgeable and helpful person imaginable for just about any product. He is my go-to resource for garden, pest and just about any other hardware store question. He is a retired gardener/chef but is truly an old-fashioned 'renaissance man' who has practical answers for any problem. Other locals seem to know about him too, but I don't know if the store realizes what an asset he is. I love that the store hires vets, and folks seem pretty helpful. Bob should train some of the newer guys as a lot of them don't seem to know where things are. Note: I have NEVER had good service in the paint store - they are always surly and act like it's a pain to 'help' you. read more

Are you people serious?? Lowes is a fantastic store!!! I have gone in on a few separate occasions not knowing exactly what materials I would need for whatever project I was working on. Every employee I talked to there was very helpful in finding the answers to my questions. When I was working on building a couple picnic tables for my backyard to build a picnic area I had NO idea what I was doing or even what screws to use. All the people I talked to really took the time to tell me different options I had to make it look how I wanted it to. They even took the time to open 5 different cans of stain until I found one I liked (sorry if that gets anyone in trouble they were damaged cans that were off the floor). One of the things I like most about Lowes is they put people with knowledge in the correct departments. For example in other large home stores they will take a plumber who has 30 years of experience and stick him in the garden department!!!!!! Then take someone who has 30 years of more as an electrician and stick them in plumbing!! This can be very frustrating but you cant blame the employee. Overall I think Lowes really does top all other stores of its kind. Knowledgeable staff who is always there to help or at least find a person who can help answer your question and pretty reasonable prices. read more

I am writing this review on the delivery service from Lowes, Cotati. We ordered a washer dryer online to be delivered from the store. Although they did attempt to deliver without contacting us to schedule an appointment first (and we did not even live in the house yet!), everything else was smooth sailing! After the attempted delivery, they called to make an appointment and delivered within the window they promised. They installed the washer/dryer for us AND gave me a tutorial on basic functions. Usually, Lowe's has a great reputation. Indeed, I've had great luck, service, and help at 5 other Lowe's locations. This one, however, is an abomination. Judith, in the blinds department, is the only reason for going into this store. So unless I'm ordering blinds, I will never return to this location. Here are a few of the incidents I've run into: 1: I needed a washing machine. One of my tenants had a machine that was broken. We tracked down an employee in the appliance department with questions. "They're over there." Um, which ones are in stock. "Those." OK, how do they compare-- "Look at the labels." The conversation became less polite. After all, it was half an hour before closing... What did I expect? Manners? We ended up going to Home Depot (of all places), which, contrary to my usual experiences, had excellent customer service, and they had someone willing to help us instantly, and we had an order placed for what we needed within 5 minutes. When Home Depot has better customer service than your store, there is a HUGE problem. 2: Last week, when it was raining, a car came racing up the parking lot like it was a drag strip, honked for 30 seconds at someone who was backing out, slammed to a stop at the front door (making a truck stop abruptly). Passenger had a short conversation before exiting. A really rushed purchase for a VIP? no. Turns out it was an employee. Rather than wasting time helping customers, he and a couple of other employees were standing in front of the restrooms taking selfies in their vests. I left that day unable to find what I was looking for, and unable to find an employee who knew what I was talking about or where to find it. Hey, they're busy taking selfies. 3: Records showed that there were 20 boxes of laminate in the color I wanted. Well, there were 6 intact boxes. The rest were all split open. Next week, when there were more, someone had put the pallet in backwards, so the labels were inaccessible. I recommend a top-down overhaul of this store: Management, employees, etc. Again, the only person I've met there that is worth her salt is Judith in the Blinds department. The rest can go. read more
