I placed an online order and it was ready in a reasonable time frame. As I arrived, I waited over 14 minutes at the order pick up. I checked in but no one came. I finally walked over to another register and was taken care of promptly. 3 stars because employees were standing around on their phones and conversing instead of offering help. I needed a new oven. I admit I am probably not as thorough as I should be when I am choosing a model. I got it on Tuesday, December 30. I was pretty busy on December 31 & January 1 because of the holiday. I was barely home. But on January 2, while I was home and nursing a hangover, I looked over at my new oven and thought that the display was rather small. I walked over to it and did not see a clean button. So I got the instructions out to find out how to start the self cleaning function. This was $1000 oven, and there is no self cleaning function!!?? I had no idea they even made ovens nowadays that don't clean themselves. So I called the 800 number, and long story short they told me since it was past 48 hours, and I did not use a Lowe's credit card, and because it was installed, I am stuck with the oven I bought. I repeated to the rep on the phone, you're telling me that the oven I just bought and was delivered on December 30, three days ago, while the past two days have been a holiday is not returnable and there's nothing you can do? And he said yes, there is nothing I can do and said if he did start an exchange, he would potentially lose his job. So we ended the call, and I just accepted that I'm going to have to get down on my hands and knees and clean this oven like it's 1970. The installation guys did not use the gas piping that was purchased with the oven because they said mine was sufficient, so they told me I could take it back to the store for a refund. So I did. And when I mentioned to the girl at the return counter that I was shocked this oven did not have a cleaning function and I tried to return it, but was rejected, she said, let me get my manager for you. Within 15 minutes, Sara arranged delivery for a similar oven and also arranged for the one I purchased to be picked up. She didn't charge me a restocking fee. She didn't charge me another delivery fee. I just paid the difference for the oven which was about $70. When I called Lowe's customer service, they did not suggest that I check with my local store. I'm so glad that I did. I honestly didn't think it was going to make a difference, but I figured the worst they could say was no. And now I have a very similar oven that cleans itself. The folks at Lowes are very nice. This review is for the carpeting service that Lowes provided. Do not use Lowes for carpet. Do not have your carpet installed by Lowes. The people that showed up smelled of pot. Told me they would not install the carpet per our requests. Made me do work on the stairs before installation. They sent there person out to bid the job. They saw a knew what was needed. There was damage to the stairs from work-person. They only used padding on the center portion of each step. That is just crazy. He found another faucet of the same brand, type and price and just wanted an even exchange. Simple. They made him get a refund on the faulty faucet then asked him to do an online order pickup for the replacement faucet...that he already had in his hands! He did that, but, because of the way it was processed in their system, they cancelled the online order and just had him repurchase the faucet that at this point, he had been holding in his hands for over an hour! I purchased an LG washer and dryer on Thursday. Delivered and installed on Friday. No issues on Saturday. Leaked water onto the laundry room floor on Sunday. Called Lowe's Customer service on Sunday. Was told the manager would call me_ He did NOT. I called the store on Monday. Was told by the Appliance dept to call the installers. On hold 45 minutes. Spoke to a woman- she said a manager was going to call me. He did NOT. asked back on Tuesday was told by a woman that the STORE was supposed to call them on Sunday- to notify them of the 48 hour rule so they would replace my washer. Called the store back- NO documentation of my Sunday call. NO assistance from the installer company. When i asked for the name of one of their customer service reps - she HIUNG UP on me. Three days of DIFFERENT answers and things for me to do for 3 days. Definitely seems like a scam. LG products can be purchased from a more reputable company. I will never buy anything from Lowe's ever again. If you ever deal with them- ask for their name; write the time and take notes- you'll need them. read more

Quick Tip - This should be blatantly obvious but, I still make the mistake... DON'T bring a 2 door Civic to Lowe's when buying garden plants Here's the skinny: Like all Lowe's this place is Huge. Everyone wants to help you it seems. Garden Dept. has A LOT of plants and decorations. Paint matching is spot on. Here's the fat: This is a GINORMOUS store... like most Lowe's. The layout is typical of Lowe's and the aisles are wide, especially the Lumber Section. I was able to do a 360 in the aisle without hitting anything... ya, I did it twice to make sure. The employees are pretty good about getting you where you need to go, almost every time I come here and ask for the location of an item they walk me there then point it out. The actual customer service desk is really easy about returns - quick story, bought spray paint, 2 cans ran outta gas half empty, brought em in, NO PROBLEM. Easy exchange. The garden department is great, I was here all spring and summer this year getting little project stuff. Flowers, veggies and other plants are all healthy and vibrant. Lowe's does a good job of keeping them all watered during heat spells, very few yellow leaves or dead plants at this Lowe's. As far as garden decorations, mulch, top soil etc. they're usually fully stocked too. And, they're all reasonably priced too some might say the Topsoil is... "Dirt" cheap lol. The Paint department is great, lots of choices and when it comes to paint matching you can bring in just about anything and they'll get it matched up a close to exact as they can. Is this the worst Lowes they own? Everything was going fine with my on line order until it came time to pick it up. Curbside pickup. Last time I waited a half hour while the only one in the curbside spaces. I assumed so very wrongly it couldn't happen again. So I get there at 12:15 today, and the only person to check in at curbside. I get an email saying be patient, we are running a bit late. Forty minutes later I say naughty words about Lowes and we decide to go get lunch because they would never miss us. Thirty minutes later we return and try to check in again. The app won't let us. So I ponder canceling the order and going to Home Depot down the road a little where they don't treat you this badly. Instead I went in for my last Lowes purchase ever, and was the only pick up customer. This didn't matter a whole lot since the woman associate was talking to a friend, looking at pictures on her phone and having a grand old time. After ten minutes they finished and she told me it was a former employee and she just had to talk to her. Like I cared. So she calls for my (curbside) pickup items which another woman rolled out. The items had 'curbside' stickers all over. She said thanks and walked away. I rolled my stuff out and my 72 year old wife helped me lift it into the car. If I was a nasty person I would have gone home missing a middle finger. But instead I just answered their survey, wrote this little memo and will now go on line and close my Lowes Card account and take my CC out of their file as I will never be using it again. At least last weeks $1600 home delivery wasn't broken. We have pretty much gotten all our big items and appliances from Lowes for many years. I have spent a lot of time in Lowe's for the last six months repairing and restoring my old home. Every time I'm in there it is painfully obvious that they are completely understaffed at this location, and almost every other Lowe's location I'm at they are all understaffed. Having said that, I am very please with each one of the staff/employees who have helped me at the Merriville location. They been friendly and kind and extremely helpful. I only give 3 stars as we are planning a bathroom remodel and it isn't done yet, will update one way or the other after the project is done. This review is for the planning phase- My wife and I have been looking to remodel our tub/shower. Word of advice, do NOT ever purchase a fiberglass tub! We installed one 2 years ago and it has been a nightmare of cracks and leaks the entire time. We dealt with Cheryl who is their special project specialist. She has been great to deal with, at no point did she try to push any high end products on us, she has let us do our own research 100% of the time and pick and choose exactly what we want. She visited our home with the installer to take measurements of the area to ensure we picked the correct items as well. I will also add, as I often do- that we have two small kids and she was incredibly patient with them the whole time they bounced around her workspace while we spoke with her - that is always a plus for me. Overall up to the time of purchase she has made it an easy project, looking forward to getting it finished. read more

I have had such a bad experience with Lowes and their 3rd party delivery service. On April 25, 2021, I purchased a refrigerator, stove, microwave and dishwasher and I am still dealing with major issues. I first was delivered a refrigerator with a huge long crack inside the freezer. I called Lowes within minutes after the delivery and the appliance rep Nick G. told me that particular refrigerator was on back order for a couple of weeks. I went to the store about 45min later and spoke to supervisor Stephanie and she said they had some in the back. I have no idea why this rep would lie??? A new delivery date was set up and during this time I found my brand new microwave to be defective. I had to take off of work for someone to tell me that the microwave was indeed defective and Lowes would contact me to set up a delivery date. I had to reach out to them a week later, because no one called. May 16th my new refrigerator was delivered, and during the delivery my door jam was ripped off by them and the rude delivery guy tried to argue with me in my home, and said it was like that already. I again went up to Lowes with pictures the very same day and Brian (supervisor) told me that a Maggie or Maria will be calling me from JB Hunt (the delivery company) to follow up about fixing my door. I was back at Lowes on Friday evening May 28th and spoke to Stephanie again, she said she would reach out to Maggie by email again. I still have not received a call. My microwave was supposed to be delivered today June 1st, just spoke to a representative Anthony, from the delivery company telling me the microwave won't be in for another 2 weeks. So I took off from work for absolutely nothing. I just want my door fixed and my new microwave. Lowes have left such a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Worst customer service from any company I have ever delt with. I had ordered carpet for my stairs going into my basement. This is a very small area , 11 steps with a landing. The install came 3 weeks after the order which is understandable considering it was a special order. The installation company came and the carpet has little squares in it which are not even. This makes the carpet look uneven and wavy. I had called Lowes and they said that they couldn't do anything that I would have to call the "central distribution " or whatever it's called. I finally get a hold of someone there and they tell me if it's not an install problem the store has to deal with it. However one person went over and beyond and called the store and told them the situation and that they would have to deal with it. I was told to call the MOD (manager on duty) and he would know about my problem. Well I get to speak with the MOD and he has no idea about my problem.FRUSTRATED. He made me a promise to get back with me and instructed me to email him pictures. Still waiting for his response a week later. I have called every day asking for someone to give me an update and I am getting. " Give me your number and I will get back to you later today". Guess what? Still waiting. All around terrible experience ordering a washing machine. I first called to see if a washing machine was in-stock like the website said it was; I was on hold for 10 minutes and no one from appliances ever answered. When I was transferred back to customer service, they hung up on me. Went to the store the next day to purchase the washing machine and the associate was not friendly and acted as if we were bothering him. He said the washer was not in stock and to not listen to what the website says. Fast forward to waiting for it to be delivered, I had to call corporate to get the order status and only then did the store call me to say they received the washing machine late last week and when would I like it to be delivered. I love this store. I've taken advantage of great sales in almost every department. I've made returns and the staff have always been courteous. The store is clean and well organized. The restroom has always been clean when I used it. This time of year my heart belongs to the garden department. It is overflowing with an awesome array of beautiful flowers, shrubs, trees, potting soil, planters and garden décor. And their stock looks good through the end of summer. I usually request help loading and by the time I bring my SUV up to the loading zone, there's an associate with my purchases waiting to load up. I can't speak for all Lowes stores, but the Merrillville, Indiana store is my go-to store. read more

I went to this store with my husband and couldn't even get inside due to almost every entrance being blocked by lawn mowers or other large garden supplies. We had to try and find our way to an entrance thst wasn't blocked. Then when we entered, we couldn't find a single person to help us. This place is so under staffed. We went to buy foen spouts. When my husband bent down to get one that was on a very low shelf, he ended up getting injured from another sharp down spout that was sticking out of the shelf instead of it being properly pushed inside the shelf the way it's suppose to be. When I looked yo see why it wasn't pushed inside the shelf, I noticed it was because a small box was stored in it which explains why the down spout was sticking out. I finally spotted 2 employees in thst same aisle and showed them my husband's forehead and explained what happened. They didn't say anything at all. Then I asked if they had a band aide because the cut was starto bleed a lot more. One of them said "you can get a band aide at the front desk. They didn't even bother to apologize or go to see how the down spout wasn't properly placed inside the shelf. When we went to the front counter we spoke to a young lady who worked there and told her what had happened. She looked dumb founded and said "here are some band aides and alcohol wipes". She didn't even bother to page the manager to tell him what had happened or even offer us an apology for what had happened. This to me is very bad business. They could have at the very least apologized and reorganize the spouts so that no one else will get injured. This place lacks customer satisfaction for sure. read more

i've been in lowes in merrillville in. many times. all i can say is you better know what your doing, and you better know what you want. i've asked a dozen or so questions the first few times i was in there, just to compare notes on my tried and true methods and anything new. it would be different if a new employee was having problems. but in all the questions i asked on normal easy repairs or projects, all i got was "ZERO". the only people who know what their doing are hiding in back. and if you get something in lumber you will notice SIX people in the "pro" area sitting on their butts doing nothing, while you wait two hours for the "pro" people to find someone to load you up. by the way, the word "PRO" is used very loosely at lowes. read more

When I received my patio door my package was missing the handle and lock and when I went back to Lowes the first time I was told I would have to contact Pella. Pella contacted me back saying Lowes had to fix the problem since they had sold me the door. After a couple of trips back and forth I finally received my handle and lock off of the display model from Lowes. When the time came for me to pick up my carpeting and flooring I had waited over an hour for them to bring the entire order up to the front after I had paid and I waited another 20 minutes for help to eventually loading all the carpet (3rolls) and all the flooring (6 boxes) by myself. In my experience Lowes has been great for appliances but with building materials at the Merrillville store this has been the worst experience I've ever had. read more

My nightmare with Lowe's in Merrillville, IN began in Nov., 2013. I wanted a deck installed of composite material. It really wasn't a deck in the traditional sense as I simply wanted a flat surface to cover two sides of my front courtyard. When I met with the original rep. I point blank asked if this was too late in the year to do a project such as this due to cold temps and was assured it was not. I agreed to the cost (not small) and the start date was established. Concrete footings (enough to support a garage!) were poured and once set, the installation of the planking began. Of course, the polar vortex of '13 began approximately a week later. I distinctly remember watching the workers do the install with snow swirling around them. Eventually the planking was completed and the snow then came in earnest covering the surface with 2-3 feet of snow. This remained until spring and when all snow was finally gone I was looking at a disaster--cuts were made in planking at odd points so there was no consistent flow of surface material. Gaps between the planks varied in size and gaps between the surface and surrounding sidewalk were uneven and very obvious. I realize (and knew even then) the issue of soil subsidence due to fluctuating ground temperatures and knew that portions of the concrete walk were not level. This was the case when the first person came to work up the contract but nothing was said regarding how it would affect the final appearance of the surface. Installers did return in the spring and did attempt to rectify the problems but I was still not happy with the finished product. Eventually I dealt with the credit card company to block payments until I was satisfied. One would think this action would spur rapid contact by Lowe's to me but that was not the case. Not until I finally contacted corporate offices did I get a response. A higher up Lowe's rep. was sent to evaluate the situation, a corrective plan devised, and work recommenced and was completed. They would not, however, begin the correction process until I removed the credit card hold.Throughout all of this time my front courtyard was unusable-- most of the spring and summer of 2014! Now I notice that planking is beginning to lift from the supporting framework and of course the person with whom I dealt most often is no longer with the local store. There were other issues as well--the workmen (a contracted out company) were very sloppy--for months I was finding nails & screws, bits of trimmed planking, piles of sawdust in the lawn cigarette butts, and damage to adjacent siding on the garage. By the time the project was done somewhat to my satisfaction I had no energy to deal with these " minor" issues. I don't blame Lowe's 100%--just about 95%! I would have been satisfied to be told that the late fall wasn't a great time to undertake such a project. I would also have been happy to hear information about the concrete surrounding the deck. i.e.: it would give the appearance of the deck being out of level or the concrete might be corrected by being jacked up, etc. I have told my story to many friends and acquaintances in the hope that they will not patronize this store. I know I will not! Lowe's had previously been my "go to" big box home improvement store but it has joined my relatively short "boycott" list. read more

I purchased 4 perennials from Lowe's last fall which were guaranteed for 1 year. Two did not come up this spring. I took my receipt back to Lowe's, like I have done at Menard's, and I was told they needed to see the roots and the plant. Since these were plants which die back in the winter, I dug where they were planted and took what was there. When I went to Lowe's for the second time, the person at customer service said the roots were not sufficient, they needed to see the plant and the LEAVES! When I explained to them that the plants die back in the winter and if they do not survive, there are no leaves to bring back. She called for a manager and after 7 minutes a man showed up and I explained the situation and he said that he had to check with the garden department. After waiting another 8 minutes, he came strolling back with a woman from plants. After again explaining what happened, they said they would 'make an exception' and return my money for the two plants that died. They wasted 20 minutes of my time and made me feel like I was trying to cheat them and they were doing me a big favor by returning my money for something that was guaranteed! NEVER BY PLANTS AT LOWE'S BECAUSE THEY MAKE YOU JUMP THROUGH HOOPS TO HONOR THEIR 1 YEAR GUARENTEE! read more
