Carpet and flooring installations are done by KELLER INTERIORS who holds the national contract with Lowes. We all woke up at 6:30am to move furniture for our 8am install appointment. Their installer for Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids areas got "sick" today so after moving our "4 man dead lift" mattress (we had help today with our out of state kids in town", and moving all furniture and emptied closets now all over our living and sun rooms....called at 8:30am saying installer sick, can't reschedule for another 3 days (when we won't have help with furniture). KELLER INTERIORS website states they believe in being "ACCOUNTABLE IN COMMITTMENTS" And "WE ALWAYS DO THE RIGHT THING". Yet they are NOT. So we have no place to sleep and our house is a wreck for another week since we planned to leave on vacation Friday and won't be home for installation until another week. So far neither Lowe's NOR KELLER INTERIORS have offered anything to make up for this HUGE DISASTER. This is the second time we have ordered carpet and it will be the last. read more

I'd give my recent in-store experience a 1 but our installation service of our new fridge a 5 star so I'm amalgamating it to an overall 3. It's hard to find someone to help you here --although everyone is friendly. If you've got a complex question it can take an epically long time to get an answer. We were in the store just shy of 2 hours and only got one item and had a question about another. We had to go home and get some info on the door we needed to order and only one staff member could order it from Pella for us so it took days to find out how much it would cost (and it was going to be a whopping $1600 just for one panel for our patio slider). We certainly won't go with Pella for future projects since the reason we need the replacement is that the original rotted out. read more

What a nightmare. I have worked with Lowes many times and a few for installation services. Got a deck priced, contractor flaked on me several times, finally got it installed. Deck has several "cosmetic" issues that I have a serious problem with. But try as I might, I can't SPEAK to anyone in a managerial level. My issue is moving into THREE months, still no discussion with anyone other than customer support, who are very nice, but clearly have no power to get anything done. Was unable to have anyone provide me with an itemized receipt for why the price was inconsistent with the quote and when I asked nobody could help me. The contractor, Real Renovations, were a nightmare to work with, so I contacted the store who also was unable to help. I had to go to corporate to try to get some help and did not get a response for over a month. When I finally did get a response, they directed me back to the store for help. Ordered a refrigerator one week ago and was told delivery was set for 8 AM. Friday night 6 days later I got a call saying it would be between 8 AM and Noon. At 1PM I called and was told by the store they did not know when it would be delivered and stated a compny they use should call for a time they would deliver. I have been coming to lowes since i bought my house last fall. I found that when i standing by a white person they always get asked if they need help fist and sometimes they don't even ask me if i need any? I like to think that, it looks like I know what I'm doing! Now i have to be honest, this does not apply to all employees, and I have been asked if i need help when store practically empty. I recently stopped by this Lowe's for a few items and was blown away by the customer service. I felt compelled to write a review. I'm something of a handyman and rarely need help, but I was little out of my league this time as I needed some plumbing supplies (my brother-in-law is a trained plumber and usually handles these matters for me). Two employees working in the area seemed to sense my uneasiness and approached me. After carefully listening to my project ideas they both showed me what I would need, even suggestion a few ideas to help me save money. I also needed a length of 4x4 for a mailbox I was installing. I only needed a 64" length and my table saw at home was broken. I explained this to an older gentleman named Jerry I found near the entrance. He personally thanked me for choosing Lowe's to satisfy my home improvement needs and offered to find someone to assist me. As we walked we continued to talk, and I was blown away by his sage and fatherly advice. The man literally oozed wisdom and compassion. Later at the self checkout I was having a hard time as my chip did not want to work in the reader. This caused a long back up (this store is always really busy from 1:45-2:30) but the cashier had the patience of an angel and helped me to complete my transaction. She even offered to help me find someone to help load my items in my van! This day and age there's a Lowe's, Home Depot, and Menards on every corner. Great customer service is really needed stands to differentiate from the pack, and this Lowe's KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK. I'd highly recommend shopping here. read more

The store i haven't had that much issue but DELIVERY sucks. First they were supposed to deliver on Thursday but it snowed. Imagine that snow in the winter in Michigan. They wouldn't drive it up my driveway. No hills just long and flat. Then they said no where to turn around which was a big fat lie as i have a large asphalt area likely park 20 or more cars up by the house. You can't see it by the house but if you googled it. So then it was supposed to deliver Friday but they forgot to put it on the list. Then Saturday but now they say the tree limbs are too low. They've delivered here in the past with a panel truck. UPS fedex and everything else comes up. So we canceled the order and now we will NEVER shop there again. Too many incompetent people. read more

I typically wouldn't write a review for a hardware store like this but the experience was so poor that it warranted a few words on how terrible the customer service is there. I usually only go once in a while for a couple small home-project products and never have needed help there, but this time I needed associate assistance and it was wretched each and every time. I had to get something for a door so I asked someone in the door section if they had it - and they said they never heard of what I was looking for so he dismissed us and said that they didn't have it. I found it 4 minutes later by the hinges. He never even volunteered to look it up, already a horrible start. Then I needed 3 foot of metal cord that HAD to be cut by an associate, so I looked around every aisle and it took about 5-10 minutes back and forth between aisles to find someone. I couldn't find anyone. I had to walk half way across the store to find anyone and who I found was a grumpy old man, Jerry, who was sitting around chatting with the greeters. I asked him if he could get someone to assist with cutting a cord - and he got angry AT ME and told me how it was unbelievable it was how I couldn't manage to find a single person in hardware. He called me Impatient and told me how I needed to learn patience in the most condescending manner. This old man needed to learn how to do his job and some manners. I literally waved him away and told him to Go Away and that I'll find someone else. He did not. Instead, he followed me and LECTURED me on how I need to learn patience (despite having waited almost 10 minutes to find someone to just HELP, which I thought was supposed to be his job.) This man was seriously the most infuriating man I have ever met in customer service. If I could have found anyone else I would have, but I had the unfortunate luck of having to deal with this crusty old scrooge. Finally, at the self-checkout I had an object that was too light-weight to register and the irritated cashier came over and told me to stop trying to break the machine in the most condescending way possible which I was only doing it in order to bypass the weight-scale in order to buy a single washer. She was rolling her eyes and sighing every step of the way. This was THREE STRIKES, and I'm convinced every person has not a single ounce of compassion to the customers. In a city with Home depot down the road and Menards on the other side of town, I would gladly drive anywhere else than to have to deal with this level of poor customer service. If I met a single person who gave a crap at their job, I would have given them a break, but after today- I don't think there is a single one in that store. read more

As much as I dislike coming here lol only because..... when we do come here, it's with my husband and he takes for FREAKING EVER!! they have such a big selection of .... well, everything! I love LOVE the garden section in the summer time! They have the absolute BEST selection of flowers, bulbs and seeds! I can't pass up the opportunity to look at the clearance section! I always find such amazing deals, from awesome blinds, a new faucet to a giant rug for my living room, 45% off too! Who does like savings? My hubbys cousin now works in the carpet center lol guess who will get deals now haha!!! Anytime we are doing upgrades to the house, whether it be painting, building, we never hesitate to go here, she employees are so helpful! They will walk from one end of the store to the other just to help you out ! Super helpful every single time ;) don't forget the bathrooms are located in the back center of the store and they are so clean! Lol I'm super picky about public bathrooms! And! You can bring you pets in, I brought my big boxer/pitty mix in just the other day. Got to the check out and he got some special treats! Super sweet! My first trip I went into the store to the lighting department to by an overhead light for my kitchen. You could tell the packaging was return due to the tape, so I asked an associate to open the box so I could get a look at the product. The product was damaged so the associate took it away and helped me order one online. According to the Lowe's website, there was another light at the Battle Creek Store and they were doing to deliver to the Portage store the next day. The next day I went in with my husband and a different associate went to the back to grab the overhead light we ordered. However, when he brought it out, it was the SAME overhead light that was retaped. He insisted it wasn't and I told him to open the box to find a damaged product. Because of this we had to get the manager to insure that they did get a light from BC, which took a couple more days to get that delivered. Another time we went to Lowe's for lighting was to use their lighting install deal. We bought 1 ceiling fan, and 2 bathroom vanities and choose and paid for an installation date. When that date came, I had to waste a work day and the install guy told me he was behind on work and stuck on the EAST side of the state of Michigan and that he wouldn't be able to come to install the lights for us. The install man called in the afternoon, so my day was shot and I had no lights installed. Instead I returned all 3 light fixtures, got my refund for the light install and went to Menards to buy the light fixtures there. Then I went on YouTube on how to install the light fixtures myself to save on money and time. Lowe's has good customer service inside their store but anything to do with installation to rely on an outside company or contractor...that's where you should go to the other stores for better service. read more

I'm a big fan of Lowes in general but this location is one of the better spots. The staff is very helpful and never far away. This store also seems to keep a healthy level of stock as I've not yet had an issue with something being out of inventory. My son and I also went to one of the Build and Grow clinics and built a Valentine's Day picture frame. Initially they had run out of goggles for the little one but they were able to find some in the back so it was a non issue. As usual, we had a great time! read more

Lowe's over Home Depot all day, every day. Been to both, just don't like the layout of HD and the workers seem to be closet case Lowe's fans, just never got hired. Of course I'll still stop in if its convenient, Home Depot that is, but if I have the time to putt around for a while (cause I always do) I'll go to Lowe's first. I would encourage you to have your flooring installed by anyone else. Worst service I have ever experienced. I purchased flooring for my condo from the Portage Lowes. The installers left the job due to needing to level the floor which was not mentioned as a concern before, even though they had sent someone out to measure and quote the project. I get it, things come up but the installer told me this happens "all the time". The installers left after tearing up portions of the existing carpet - 4 days later we are still trying to get them to schedule to come back and do the work, despite now paying an additional $1000 over the original price in order for them to level the floor. Everything has been paid in full so that's not the issue. And they say they discounted $2000 off the cost of leveling the floor. I guess T hat was the one thing they've done that was positive through this debacle. But unfortunately a discount on work that doesn't get completed isn't much of a discount. So we're stuck with sections of torn up carpet and exposed subfloor throughout our condo. The installers can't answer our questions or provide any information. The installation manager's phone rings to voicemail that doesn't accept messages because the mailbox is full. When we call Lowes (every day because they keep telling us they will call us back with answers and they don't) we get routed all over, someone different every time. I was supposed to get a call back from an assistant manager. That call didn't come. I asked to speak with a store manager but was told there isn't one available. There isn't a regional manager, they told me, "but even if there was we wouldn't route these calls to them". Direct quote. You'd think that someone in this national retail chain would have the foresight to schedule around difficulties that may arise when they "happen all the time". Or at least someone would be empowered to resolve concerns for the customer within a reasonable timeframe. So all of their installation work is done through subcontractors. But Lowes takes no responsibility for their work (or lack of). I'd just be thrilled with a return phone call or even a date they will come back. I truly don't feel much like a valued customer. When I said since I can't get anyone there to call back that I was going to post a review about my experience on social media, the customer service rep told me to "go ahead". Also a direct quote. I did not have my receipt the customer service young lady informed me that if I did not have the receipt, I could not return the merchandise! What you have to understand about me as a loyal customer is that I have spent thousand upon thousand dollars in your store and to hear I could not return an item for $20 was a direct insult. I felt as if the store was treating me a loyal customer as if I had stole my $20 dollars worth of merchandise! You have lost a loyal weekly customer all over $20! Re their lighting installation services: I purchased a ceiling fan and dining room chandelier, and they advertised getting two things installed for $199. I had to pay $35 for them to come out and look at the work, which is just replacing existing fixtures. The quote came back nearly $370. What? More than 150% of the cost of the fixtures. I may be returning them or looking for an electrician myself, and am really annoyed that I was misled by the signage at the store. I even asked the salesman if the install price included the fan with the attached light and he said yes. NOT happy and won't be trusting Lowe's advertised install prices anytime soon. read more

Any issues I have ever had with installs or delivery they took care of it and took care of me. If I could give this store zero stars I would. We came in to buy an appliance and our experience was horrible from start to finish. The first time we went in to look a refrigerators the sales person working in the area was not remotely knowledgeable and could not answers our questions. He printed off a few specifications for models we asked for and that was it. We decided we would come back another day when someone who was more knowledgeable and helpful was available. By the time we came back we had gone a few other places and done our own research to find the model we wanted. So we made it very easy on the salesperson. We set up for delivery for the following Saturday. We received a call a few days later indicating that our fridge would not be in and we needed to push the delivery date to the next Saturday. Annoying, but fine whatever stuff happens. We then receive a call 2 days later that our model was in and scheduled for delivery for the second Saturday. We told them that someone had called and said it wouldn't be in and that was why we had to reschedule for a later date. The employee indicated they didn't know why someone had called because it should have been delivered as originally scheduled. The employee told us we could not have it delivered on our original date because all the trucks were now full. They offered to deliver on Thursday instead of Saturday. We called and spoke to a manager and indicated that would not work because we did not want to take off work due to an error that delivery people had made. She agreed and was accommodating and was able to have the item delivered to us Monday. Even though we again had to take off work at least we were getting our item several days earlier. We were told they would contact us in the morning to be given a time frame for delivery. No call. We had to call twice before we were given a time frame. When the delivery driver arrived he indicated that he did not believe the item would fit through the doorway and that he would take it back to the store and we would need to go in and pick out a smaller model. Trusting that the employee was being honest we did not measure ourselves. We went to the store that evening after measuring our doorway and measured the same model fridge which we determined would fit. It was clear that the driver did not want to take the time to remove the refrigerator doors in order to make it fit. After being in the store measuring appliances on our own a salesman finally approached use and we explained the situation to the salesperson then blew us off indicating he was helping another customer. He then proceeded to go over to the service desk to chat with another employee. We left the store and went to Best Buy and found the exact same model fridge and explained the situation to their employees. They were very accommodating and indicated that removing the doors was not a problem. Deciding that we no longer wanted to deal with Lowe's we returned to the store to get a refund on the purchase. The employees spent almost 40 minutes trying to verify that we did not have the fridge in our possession. We explained that it never came off the truck. They could not get in contact with anyone in delivery and the service manager had to go back and find the truck and search for it while we waited. You would think that they would have to check the items back in if they were not delivered... apparently not. The customer service reps did do the return but did not do much to inquire why we were unhappy or try to offer any resolutions to our issue. The next day we contacted the corporate customer care to report our concerns from start to finish. They indicated that they were sorry, they would escalate the complaint and have someone from corporate call me within 24 hours. Within an hour I received a call from the local store manager. I explained the entire scenario to him. He asked if we got a refund and basically said "sorry for the bad service, we'll try to do better." We won't be shopping with Lowe's again. read more

Watch out. They will pass the buck back on you and try to cover their tracks. Once the big guy behind the desk took an estimate from another store and said he would email me an estimate from lowes-NEVER RECEIVED. TRULY A WASTE OF MY TIME. Whenever I can't find something, asking for specific help, the people working there are either clueless, lazy or just plain don't give a a damn. Then you stand in the only lane for 15 min. I purchased a Weber Genesis Grill at Lowe's in Portage, MI on 9/5/16. While arranging delivery I specifically told the cashier that I did not want the floor model. When I arrived home on delivery day I discovered that they had, indeed, delivered the floor model (it had a very distinguishable flaw). Although they did bring a different grill later that day, I think people should be careful when purchasing items at Lowe's. It seems to me that they are rotating out their floor models without giving a discount...they get more money and you get a used item. I sent 2 different letters to the Corporate office but they did not write back to address my concerns. That new refrigerator, etc. that you think you are getting may have been opened and closed 2,000 times before it's delivered to your home. read more

The customer service here is awesome. I help run a low-income girl scout troop in the Kalamazoo area. Our girls are currently working toward their silver award by renovating the room we meet in. We stopped into the store to price out paint for our renovation, and the employee that worked with us took the measurements of our meeting room and told us we would need two gallons of a special cement paint to finish the job. He told us multiple times that two gallons would be enough, even after we questioned it. After spending most of our money that we had on the paint alone, even after a generous discount made by Lowes, it was obvious that two gallons of paint wouldn't be enough. A little frustrated, the leader of our troop called and explained the situation to a manager. This manager apologized for what had happened, and after taking the measurements for the room, told us that the paint would be ready for us when we came in. When we asked how much it would be and being prepared to pay out of our own pockets, they told us it was taken care of and we wouldn't have to pay a dime!
