Hopped in to Low Key Taco to check out this spot. We had been to previous restaurants in this location and loved the new vibes created. The walls are painted black with neon fun murals, the music was on point with some 90s and early 2000s jams. I got the 2 flour taco platter with rice. The Lieutenant Dan was my favorite with just the right level of heat to accompany the crispy shrimp. My second taco was the Young Cheezy which featured carnitas....definitely eat this one first or you taco will be soggy from the cheese sauce. Everyone in our party really enjoyed the pre-built creations. The service was quick with no wait. The cocktails were just ok. Low Key Taco is a great little place in the suburbs! They have a variety of tacos, appetizers and drinks to choose from. We like to start with the trinity and street corn, then share a couple tacos. You can build your own (including making it a salad) or there are several fun specialty options to choose from. Lieutenant Dan and Cluck Norris are always favorites! Happy hour is from 4:30-6:30 and it's $5 margaritas (if you like spicy try the mango habanero), $5 white claw slushees and half off appetizers. Plus you can get margaritas to go! If you are expecting Condado or Bakersfield, you will probably be slightly disappointed. But definitely give it a try! We all ordered different types of margaritas and they come in a decent size for 7 bucks. With an extra dollar, you can add flavor to it. The pitcher is only $24 bucks if you wanna go that route. They have a decent happy hour menu and daily specials. We were going to get one dip but the server suggested getting the trio that comes with cheese dip, guacamole, and salsa and that was a good choice but they don't bring nearly enough chips to eat all the dip. Everyone ordered different tacos from the menu. I had chicken and beef. They were decent sized tacos. With a drink, appetizer, and two tacos, I was completely stuffed. I started with their complimentary chips & salsa, which isn't any of the salsas they have on their menu, but this was really good salsa and I loved the texture and corn flavor of the chips too! So, I opted for their habanero salsa and it was very tasty, but very spicy too! Definitely had a very nice kick to it!! Next course was the try their wings, as I thought I read somewhere that they were smoked in-house... these definitely we boring, bland and scrawny wings... Nothing exciting about them at all. The taco dust seasoning was ok, but there wasn't much of it to influence the flavor of the wings much. This place is tucked away in the Robinson area. We were looking for something a bit lighter and thought this would work. The atmosphere is interesting, with great art work on the walls. The metal chairs are not very comfortable and the music is definitely too loud for carrying on a conversation while eating. Our server was quick to arrive, but was either new or had been badly trained. They had seated us at a 4 top table and instead of her coming around to the side on which we were seated, she stood at the opposite side and with the music so loud we couldn't hear her or her us. Awkward. We had questions on some of the beer and she had no idea so we ended up with a simple beer instead. The menu is very confusing and usually when it's a place like that they ask if you have been there before and then explain how it works. Nothing like that from this server. We started with chips and guacamole which were both good. When you order you own made tacos you pick the shell type, the protein type and then the taco filling. I tried a hard corn taco with ground meat and the spicy filling. The other was a soft taco with beef brisket and a sweet filling. The tacos arrived brimming with ingredients. The spicy one, although good, was just too spicy for me. My mouth was on fire. Thankfully the sweet one took away much of the bite. The menu here is interesting and the tacos are only $3.50. Friends and I got together here for dinner on a Friday night and this didn't disappoint! The mixed berry margarita was amazing, but I will say it came with a TON of ice. Everyone enjoyed their chips and dip -- the queso and guacamole I had was great. I ordered a beef taco and a carnitas taco, both with the "double stuff" shell, which is a soft and hard shell stuck together with queso. The tacos were spicy, loaded with ingredients and super yummy. This place immediately gives me Condado vibes and the food is just as good! I ordered a hibiscus marg as well as 3 different tacos- the cluck norris, lieutenant dan, and the street smarts with pork. The marg was actually really good and only ended up being $5. I didn't know when I ordered but apparently all low key margs are only $5 on Sunday's which was awesome. I really loved both the cluck norris and the lieutenant dan but I was not a fan of the street smarts at all. The street smarts didn't have much taste, mostly just tasted like greasy meat. They also gave me the street smarts taco with the wrong shell so that whole taco was just not for me. If you're looking for authentic tacos, this is probably not the place for you but their non-traditional tacos are delicious! Lowkey taco is exactly as it sounds - no fuss, American tacos. We enjoyed the patio on a Sunday evening and had wonderful service. The menu focuses on just a few things but there is something for everyone. You can pick from a selection of 'fancy' margaritas or go with a flavored option - I recommend sticking with a classic or flavored margarita to avoid the sweetness. The margaritas were okay for an American taco joint but this review is based on the tacos. Chips and a dipper are not free and I don't think they are worth it - chips are not fresh and the salsas and guac seem overpureed and unflavorful. For tacos, you can pick a 2 or 3 taco plate and pick different tacos (i.e. you don't have to order two of the same). You can pick your shell and upgrade to the double stuffed shell with a hard shell and soft tortilla stuck together with guac and queso for an upcharge. I think this is fun every once in awhile but you are charged by taco and it is a lot of food. The Lil Uzi Verd taco was very good with a large, moist portion of shredded pork, roasted corn, taco sauce, and queso fresco. The menu said it has chimichuri but I did not taste it. Alas, it was still a flavorful and delicious taco. My husband ordered the birria tacos and they were a hit! The corn tortillas were soft yet crisped, the cheese was melty, the beef was tender, and the onions crisp! I visited Lowkey Taco for the second time with two of my friends, and it was the perfect atmosphere during this COVID pandemic. We were seated at an outdoor table on a beautiful day, so we decided to hang out for a while and order a trio dip and drinks. I had the Tropidelic Margarita (pineapple mango) which was sooo good! It's hard to stray from a drink you love, but I also tried a Hawaiian margarita which was pretty good! The dip trio was PLENTY to share between 3 people. They provided us with generous portions of salsa, guacamole, and queso. The guacamole was my favorite of the three, especially since it was topped with some spicy salsa! I didn't think the queso was great... the texture was very odd. The queso tasted a bit floury which could also be why the texture was lumpy. However, the homemade tortilla chips were golden, crispy, and perfect for dipping! The service was a bit slow. It took a while for our waters and first round of drinks to arrive, but we weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a big deal. The prices were pretty typical - $8.50 for a margarita & $14 for the dip trio. Overall, we had a great time on the patio! Next time, I would definitely like to try a few more menu items (tacos especially), so I could more accurately asses their menu. I hear a lot of people say that Lowkey is just a lesser version of Condado Tacos, and I'd say that is a pretty fair assessment. Lowkey has the exact same vibe and décor as Condado. One thing that is different is the taste of the tacos, to which Condado is superior. My wife and daughter and I went to Lowkey wanting to try it and had an ok meal. We ordered some chips and pineapple salsa which was good, but the bowl of salsa was pretty small. The Salsa was great though, very addicting. I ordered the Three Taco Platter where I picked the Lieutenant Dan (Fried Shrimp taco with Bang-A-Rang sauce and Cucumber and Carrot Kimchi), Cluck Norris (Fired Chicken, Chipotle Cream, Pico de Gallo and Queso Fresco), Chardee Macdennis (Ground Beef, Pinto Beans, Queso, Cheddar, Lettuce, Pickled Red Onions and Taco Sauce). I then ordered an additional taco that I created myself (A Korean Beef BBQ taco made Sweet - meaning it had slaw, Pineapple Ancho BBQ, Roasted Corn, Cheddar, Cilantro and Cream). The Platter also came with very small side cups with Refried Beans and Rice. First off, the Beans and Rice are disgusting. Thankfully they were only small portions, but both were not good at all. Of the Tacos (all of which I ordered on a soft Flour shell) the Lieutenant Dan and the Korean Beef BBQ ones were my favorite. Both were very good and I really enjoyed the Cucumber and Carrot Kimchi on the Shrimp Taco. The Cluck Norris fried Chicken was extremely bland and the topping on the taco could not make up for it. Same with the ground beef in the Chardee Macdennis, extremely bland taco meat, plus it had the refried beanson it which as I already stated are not good. Luckily, there was a bottle of Cholula on every table, so I was able to put enough hot sauce on those two to make them a little better. Not to sound like everyone else, but if you have choice between Lowkey and Condado then go to Condado. But if you are looking for great tacos and a place that has more than just tacos, go to the very close El Campesino nearby. I may go back to Lowkey to give them another shot, but will definitely order more carefully to avoid some of the things that I already know they don't do very well. read more

First off I love the aesthetics of the place and on days when we have nice weather, like this past Saturday, they have a patio and bar you can sit at. Our server, Paige, was on top of everything, and was helped by who I believe to be the manager and the bust boy was on top of it as well. The trinity appetizer was so good! I ordered the Johnny Hopkins taco that is house brisket with pickled red onion some slaw and a pineapple ancho BBQ. I was a little leary of the BBQ but the taco was good. I had it on a soft corn tortilla and it was a well built and very full taco. The brisket was tasty, tender and not dried out. I also built my own using the 3 step build your own menu. These are mostly not your traditional tacos but tacos with a little different take on your taco set up. So if you are a traditionalist, spread your wings a bit. Granted we were a bit wary after reading other yelp reviews BUT as we prefer to eat at local establishments vs chains we decided to give Lowkey a chance... Two tacos, a Bahn Mi Carnitas was decent, but the "Swordfight" Swordfish taco was weak .... it was Teriaki based, and was almost identical to the Bahn Mi in looks, but was not pleasing to my palette (your tastebuds may differ). I was hoping for a traditional fish taco with cabbage, pico, and maybe some avocado sauce, but they have no such condiments here. I couldn't taste any smoke on the smoked chicken, but otherwise I enjoyed the slaw and salsa on it enough. Sword Fight- 3.6 The swordfish was a little dry, and the teriyaki glaze was minuscule. The carrot was overwhelming the taco which sounds weird but I felt like it was a carrot taco instead of anything else. Johnny Hopkins- 4.6/5 This is what I'm talking about! I also tried my friends Hibiscus and the Bougie Berry Margs. You can't go wrong, they all tasted great, but Hibiscus was the favorite. Food: You need to try the Quattro Queso. Just take my word for it. My favorite tacos were Johnny Hopkins and Young Cheezy. A plus for the gluten free crowd, everything is labeled (vegan is also labeled). How do I start this review? Well let me say that we went to this place on a whim so I didn't expect much. Since that first visit we have been at least 7 times since October. The only problem I've had was that they once put on a topping that I had asked to not have included. It was remedied within 10 minutes. Low Key Taco is an ideal location for anyone who likes original takes on the classic taco. With nearly endless choices and easy customization options it's absolutely perfect. The food is some of the best I've ever had in my life and the ambiance is hip, funky, loud and fun as hell. As the night goes on the turn the music up a bit and allow the patrons to jam to old school funk, modern rock, house, pumped up pop and R&B hits. It's eclectic and so much fun to experience. Of note, if you need it a bit quieter, they will adjust the volume. Let me tell you about the best part... The service! I'm pretty damn sassy to put it politely and our favorite waiter (from day one) Torrey just gave me that sass right back. It was awesome! He made us feel 200% at home and completely at ease in a new space. The entire staff is absolutely epic and will take the utmost care to provide excellent service. Decided to try out Lowkey during a trip to Robinson. Was excited about the custom margaritas and tacos, but was trying to stay on the healthy side. Service was OK. It's during a pandemic, so I expect things to be a bit slow and they were, but the servers were helpful. Our son ordered a couple of tacos and my wife and I ordered the salads (large). We also ordered a pitcher of habanero margaritas. The margaritas were super-sweet. No detectable booze, and 5, 1/16" thin slivers of habanero at a $4 upcharge. Not worth it in the least. It's a habanero pepper, not saffron. $4? The tacos (according to our 14 yr old who devours everything in sight) were ok. Our salads were pathetic. Essentially a large plate of shredded lettuce with a sprinkling of cheddar cheese and tomatoes. We both had added "carne asada" as our protein for an additional $6. That ended up being 4 (for me) and 6 (for her) tiny slices of sirloin streak, about 2" by 1/8". It was sad. For a $16 salad, it was pathetic. The overall feel of the menu and place are trying to be high-end, specialty taco joint, with prices to match. But the execution is fast food quality... with (maybe) booze. No thanks. read more
