The main portion has a boardwalk with two lookout towers. Behind the boardwalk is a fenced in walking trail with a gazebo at the halfwayish point. This was a nice hike in exploring preserved land.

We did see a few gopher turtles and a ton of spiders ‍ I couldn't find the trail until after coming home and going back through the photos to configure the direction to go down. Not too many parking spaces, but I don't think that is a dealbreaker considering it's more of an observation area. My son walked to the top to grab a few photos since I couldn't get his sleeping sister up there in the stroller.

This leads to a short path along the water to get to a fishing pier with a pavilion. My kids fished on the pier, bridge, and along the shore. We parked in the plentiful Community Park parking lot, in front of the Flatwoods sign. I dropped off my kids here for the Fishing Camp from Building Up Sports Academy, which hosts the camp at various municipalities across Palm Beach County, this one offered by the Town of Jupiter. What a great spot to hang out in all day, especially for a camp.! My kids caught fish here successfully. I'm excited to revisit and walk the trails.

Entrance to the preserve is in Jupiter Community Park…read more This natural area was identified has having environmentally important land and it was preserved as part of the county's 1999 Bond Referendum for Land Acquisitionfor Conservation Purposes. The county purchased this land in 2000 from Watermark Communities. There are two trails, a .55 paved trail and a 1.44 mile sandy trail. The trails go through mesic flatwoods, wet flatwoods, depression marsh, and dome swamp ecosystems. The trail has boardwalks, a swing, benches, a fishing pier and an observation platform. The preserve has several populations of rare plants including Atlantic St. John's-wort, trumpet creeper, and yellow jessamine. Other plants you will include saw palmetto, slash pine, gallberry, beautyberry, cypress, ferns, gopher apple, tarflower, and pinebarren goldenrod. During my hike I saw eastern cotton tail rabbits, blue jay's, butterflies, squirrels, and lizards. Other animals that have been recorded here include raccoon, bob cat, red shoulder hawk, osprey, and gopher tortoises. This natural area is part of the Florida's Greenways and Trails System, a system of linked conservation lands creating a wildlife corridor adjacent to the Loxahatchee River. Something really unique about this trail that I love and have never seen before is it has been certified as autism friendly in April 2019 by the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities. The Learning Academy, a group of professionals that includes speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, teachers, behavior analysts and representatives from Palm Beach County Environmental Resources Management developed improvements to the Flatwoods Natural Area to make the trail more inviting to people with sensory issues. Added were the half mile of ADA paved trails, visual signage, benches to allow people to take a break, a swing, physical barriers, a nature trail scavenger hunt, and sensory stations. I have been on a lot of trails that do not take people with disabilities into consideration so I was so impressed to see the accommodations that have been made to make this trail user friendly for all members of the community. This is the first trail in the Florida to be certified as autism friendly and hopefully it is the start of more to come. The county has designed this area to be enjoyed passively while still protecting it. It is ideal for hiking, photography, and bird watching. Smoking, hunting, feeding wildlife, biking, and taking anything are all prohibited activities. Flatwoods is open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset.

The view of the Lake Worth Lagoon is beautiful especially once you walk across the 556-foot boardwalk. The city skyline is beautiful from the lagoon; I love that pink building especially during sunset. There are three man-made mangrove islands. Due to over development, many wildlife habitats were forced out; the county created these islands in effort to bring them back. The restoration brought many local wildlife such as sea turtles, manatees, fish, and birds back. We usually find on-street metered parking and explore the city and we never miss this spot. It's definitely a quiet retreat once you get to the other side of the boardwalk. I've seen many walkers and bikers on it. They did a great job with this area.

The seeds for this natural area were sewn in 1998 when Palm Beach county county and others agencies…read morepledged to bring back wildlife habitats to the 20 mile long Lake Worth Lagoon with money from local, state, and the federal government. South Cove is located just north of the Royal Palm Bridge along North Flagler. At a cost of 3.4 million dollars it was built in 2012 by Palm Beach County with the help of other agencies to restore the estuary's natural features and habitats that have been lost through years of development. Dredging had left a 7 acre hole in the lagoon floor that was devoid of oxygen and could not sustain a habitat. Environmental Resource Management capped the muck on the bottom with sand and built three intertidal mangrove and salt marsh islands. They added 3.5 acres of sea grass and one acre of oyster reef habitat to clean and filter the brackish water in the lagoon. This natural area now cover six acres. When you visit you can stroll down a 356 boardwalk that travels over the water to the largest of the man made islands where it ends in a 16-foot-by-16-foot deck. Along the way you get a stunning view of the downtown Palm Beach skyline including Henry Flagler's mansion Whitehall. All of the islands are covered by red, white, and black mangroves that are home to fiddler crabs and provide a safe place for sea life to be born. The restored wetlands offers support to fish, wading birds, manatees, and sea turtles. After polluting the Lake Worth Lagoon for so many years it is nice to see something finally being done about it. This is one of three natural areas that have been created along the lagoon so that people can enjoy the wildlife that is returning to the area. Although there is no dedicated parking lot you can find parking on the street next to Trinity Park. Everyone should come out here and see why it is so important to preserve the health of the Lake Worth Lagoon.

They circle high in the sky before diving feet first to grab a fish. You can find them around any body of water and they make their nests on top of poles, trees, and channel markers. I love watching them dive. I have one that lives on a pole in my schools parking lot and I watching him every afternoon dive for fish in the canal across the street. I didn't see any ospreys in this park but this is exactly the kind of place they like to live. This park is also known as a place to spot manatees. Amenities at this park include a picnic pavilion and tables, playground, exercise path, dog park, fishing dock, and a beach for launching non motorized boats on the Intracoastal. The park also has a lot of beautiful mango trees. Swimming is not allowed because the currents are dangerous. The water view is so pretty and this park is perfect for picnics and play. Osprey Park is open every day from 7 AM to 9 PM.

Whatever outdoor recreation you favor, you can find it in this area. If you have a shorter amount of time I would recommend Freedom Park over Okeeheelee. There is still plenty to do here at Freedom Park. My favorite part of this park is the exercise path that runs along the perimeter of scenic wetlands that attract common moorhens, ducks, and egrets. There is even outdoor exercise machines for more cardio and muscle building. This part of the park is perfect for nature lovers. For children ,there is a really colorful and fun covered playground area, a bankshot basketball court, and a storywalk that has different stations that brings together the joy of reading and being outdoors. Stations are installed along trails and children and their families can stop and read and ask and answer questions. Storywalks like this one promote literacy and outdoor exercise while fostering family bonding. Other park amenities include restrooms, a lighted soccer field, concession area, grills, picnic shelter, and a popular pickleball court. One of the standouts of this park is how spacious it feels which allows room for events, parties, and sports. The park is cleaned and well maintained with ample parking. This is the kind of park that will equally appeal to those looking for a peaceful place to unwind as well as those looking to be active. With a wide range of activities available for residents and visitors, there is something for all ages to enjoy.

It was formerly called pinehurst park due to the street it's located on. The street is west of and parallels Jog Road, but it is a quieter less developed drive lined with pine trees. It's a perfect preliminary and pretty bit of nature -- before you enter the park. There are quite a number of facilities at the park including several athletic/soccer fields (4?), picnic pavilions (available for rent), a children's playground that has a rain cover, a colorful basketball court (for kids) with nets of all different heights, benches, walking paths (a parkour), and pickle ball courts. And I've probably missed a few... You can be as active as you'd like, or just sit and relax and watch the water or enjoy nature. I'm definitely coming back here when I have more time.

This is a three acre natural area on the north fork of the Loxahatchee River. Although the preserve…read moreis small there are three native ecosystems located here: pine trees and saw palmettos in the scrubby flatwoods, live oaks and cabbage palms in the mesic hammock, and red, black, and white mangroves and buttonwood in the mangrove swamp along the river. Mangroves are important because they help reduce erosion and they filter pollutants out of the water. Sixty species of native South Florida plants have been recorded here including common and giant wild pine air plants. Thirty-nine species of native South Florida animals have been documented including American redstart, Florida prairie warbler, osprey, swallow-tailed kite, west Indian manatee, and the endangered gopher tortoise. I had a very pleasant walk here. There are several well marked natural earth trails that take you from the road along the neighborhood down to the river. Along the way I saw a lot of birds and a gopher tortoise. This preserve is supposedly only accessible to pedestrians or those canoeing or kayaking but I found I was able to just park on the side of the road and didn't have any problem.

This is a very nice neighborhood park in the 1.546 single family home neighborhood of LaMancha in…read moreRoyal Palm Beach. LaMancha was built in 1978 and expanded upon through the years. This park was named in honor of former Royal Palm Beach resident, Todd Andrew Robiner who was a football player for Palm Beach Lakes High School, a basketball star, and a championship wrestler. While attending Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois on a full scholarship it was discovered during a routine physical exam that something was wrong. It was later diagnosed as cancer and Todd passed away from the disease at the age of 21 on August 20. 1994. There is a plaque with his name at the entrance to the park. Situated on a canal, this lovely 5 acre park has a lot of amenities. These include a restroom, large playground, basketball court, sand volleyball court, boat launch, and fishing dock. In August of this year the park was renovated to include two new dog parks, one for small dogs and one for large. Dog fountains, benches, and new fencing were added to the area. A new kayak launch, expanded sidewalks and a new parking lot were also added to the park. It is very nice to sit on one of the swing benches and watch the ducks and boats sail by.
