I decided to try a different hair salon than the one I have gone to for more years than I can…read morecount. My stylist no longer cuts hair and I had tried one of the other stylists last August. The haircut was mediocre at best. After reading the single Yelp review and many other reviews I decided to try Inspirations Salon in Shelbyville. When I called I indicated I wanted a wet cut with an easy to maintain wash and wear style. The person that had answered the phone recommended Nikki. It was a breeze to book the appointment for a convenient time. I also inquired how much I should expect to pay for the requested wet cut. The answer was $30. which seemed reasonable. On the day of my appointment I arrived a few minutes early. One employee came to the front desk and indicated Nikki was finishing up the appointment before me. I patiently waited about 20 minutes into my scheduled appointment time. When she was done Nikki came forward and escorted me back to her station. She seemed a little unknowledgeable on what I had booked. "Do you want a shampoo?" My reply "yes". I then produced a magazine picture with the general haircut I was looking for and told Nikki it needed to be an easy wash and wear cut. The haircut itself went quite well and was exactly what I was hoping for. Then rather than just styling it as my hair dried Nikki proceeded to style it with a variety of brushes and blow dryer. In the end I confirmed how much I owed her and she replied "$35." Fortunately I had that much set aside for the cut and tip so I gave her the $35 and then dug in my purse for an appropriate tip. I waited to write this review until I could live with the cut for a couple of weeks. The cut is probably the best cut that I've had in the last five years. So why not five stars? The little difference in price, plus having to insist on a shampoo before the cut, plus the extra styling makes me withhold that fifth star. I definitely well come back in the future.

Seems like there is no air circulation/ventilation to remove the smell of the chemicals used on prior customers. The "receptionist" dude acts like what I imagine a pimp would be like. He is rude and does not keep his promise of calling you with a cancellation or appointment. He also asks you first where you live, before he tells you how much the service is. I feel sorry for Becky, who is really a great stylist, to be saddled with him running her business. She could do much better without this guy running the show. I won't be going back solely because of him.

The salon it's self is beautiful and relaxing! The location is also very convenient! My husband is also very weird about getting his hair cut. And then I spent a few minutes picking out a scent for my neck massage - that's right, you get an amazing neck massage with your hair cut! Then I met my new stylist Morgan. What a sweetheart. She totally listened to what I want, as I was doing a big cut of about 8 inches. Of course, doing a big cut you get a little nervous but Morgan put me at ease. Then you get an amazing hair wash - with even a hand massage while you get your hair washed. I loved the eye mask, perfect touch. Then Morgan got started with my cut. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed having Khyla do her hair. We first went in expecting a curly cut but then switched over to a silk press (what my daughter originally asked me to do). Khyla led us into discussion about the pros and cons about each and together as a team we made the decision to go with the silk press. My daughter appreciated her tender touch while detangling, and her concern for temperature at the shampoo bowl. Bless her heart I don't think she or I estimated the amount of time it would take with my daughters thick hair. Four hours later my daughter walked out all smiles and satisfaction. She ended up needing inches cut off her hair due to breakage but Khyla gave an in depth explanation why and took her time to only cut what was needed. Two and a half hours later before stylist was finishing. No complaints on the color b/c I know it takes a few visits to get the color right. I requested just a trim in the style that I have worn for the past 3 years and love. Not sure what type of cut she was working on but end result requires repair to uneven sides and hair in the back hanging down. Have tried to reach the salon and phone is not answered and VM full. Today is Tuesday and they are supposed to be open. Will not return.
