Dave came over to meet our Alaskan Klee Kai 4 month old puppy for an initial consult and in house puppy training. The lessons he provided right off the bat were appreciated and implemented. Seeing how well she responded we wanted to immediately start her in his 3 week course as AKKs are known for darting and not listening. However, Dave said "Let your puppy be a puppy and contact us in a couple more months." I really appreciate him saying that. We continued training her at home while enjoying her puppy bonding time and 2 1/2 months later dropped her off. Three weeks without her was hard but we did it! When we picked her up we found the same happy pup but with added obedience. She even retained the training we taught her at home (we have a dog door bell system to signal outside for potty). Her auto-sit while walking and sit+stay / down+stay on leash are quite impressive and you can tell how proud she is when performing these commands as well as sitting at the door waiting to be invited in/out. In the back yard she's perfect with 'heel' but in the real world she's still a bit excited. That's expected with her breed and we will continue to train daily with the skills Dave taught us. We called David and set up an appointment, where he could make an assessment of our dog Traeger. He is a six month old German Shepherd with a lot of energy. David was able to spend several minutes with Traeger and he explained how the obedience's training would be accomplished and recommended a 3 week training program for us. David was able to provide all the answers we needed and we agreed with the provisions in the contract. My wife and I found David to be a straightforward, no BS kind of guy. One of the things that he explained to us was, he could train the dog but it was up to us to make sure that we followed his directions so it would prepare us for our training. We watched his videos and really tried to prepare our self for the graduation day. After David spent three weeks with Traeger, it really showed how much a professional He is. Dave came to my home this past Monday for a personal puppy class. He walked in and seen the gazillion toys, dog beds, all you can eat puppy buffet! First thing he ask me was "how many dogs live here?" Haha I said "one 10 week 4lb miniature poodle named Molly" he shook his head and reassured me that when he left I would have the tools needed to take my life back. No joke, this dog is ruling my life. While he was here, we started crate training, discipline (because I was unable to do that myself, is way too soft) Some of you may be laughing but this is no joke for me I cried while he was here because it was hard for me to watch Molly get disciplined and let me tell you she deserved it. I needed more teaching than Molly. Anyway, what he did for me was give me the tools that I am implementing every single day And I am seeing fantastic results! Today is Friday and she has not peed in the house for two days! I was cleaning up 6 to 10 a day! She is sleeping all night in her crate (no longer in my room) and is taking naps in her crate during the day. I am able to work again and get essential things done in my life. I do have to give my husband a ton of credit for putting up with my trying tell him discipline is mean, he tried to get me to do this in the first place but I refused and I told him he was mean, (sorry Greg) Molly is a much happier dog now and we are much happier pet owners, she is progressing wonderfully. I always check Yelp when I am in the need of a service. Based on the excellent reviews, I decided to contact David with Loyal K-9. I rescued a Labrador Retriever from the shelter two weeks ago. When I adopted him he was malnourished, suffering from hair loss, had canine cough, and terrified of people. I have made great strides with him and now that he is comfortable, I am dealing with typical puppy behavior. I have done a tremendous amount of research on raising a puppy but still have a great amount of difficulty (and want to do the best job possible). I spoke with David on Tuesday (3/6/18) and he crudely stated, "This is all your fault." (In reference to my puppy chewing on my couch). He is condescending and rude; if I knew everything about raising a puppy why would I be seeking assistance? I brought up a few more topics and David decided to berate me for confusing obedience & puppy training. I've had him two weeks and have been a proactive pet parent. Just because I am not an expert, doesn't mean I am not trying my very best and give you the right to attack my efforts. My recommendation as an HR professional is that you're in serious need of Customer Care training. When potential customers reach out to you for help, remove your ego and speak to people with respect. We were thoroughly pleased with our experience with David from beginning to end. He was very prompt in his responses when we were first inquiring and was very flexible & accommodating to our availability. We got scheduled fairly quickly for the in home evaluation and felt comfortable right away upon meeting him and his wife. They were very familiar with our breed, Belgian Malinois, and knew all the common problem behaviors we were experiencing. We were offered the 3 week basic lease obedience training for a reasonable price. We also wanted to coordinate the training with the dates our landscaper would be working on our backyard and David was totally understanding and helpful with this. We enjoyed a nice 3 week break from our crazy pup and when we picked her up she was a totally different dog!! Much more obedient and calm. It's important to listen to David's advice following the training, as he said to immediately practice the commands right when getting home. We could tell that our dog Luna was trying to go right back to her old ways when we arrived home until she realized that we were going to continue the same expectations David had with her. We could tell in her face, it was like a lightbulb went off!! Lol And she knew not to mess around anymore. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our follow up session due to an unexpected hand injury, but we have continued watching the videos and practicing for maintenance of the skills learned. Dear Yelpers, I was not given a discount to write this review, this is a 100% honest review of David/loyal k9 and my experience. I hired David to train my full breed 2 year old Siberian Husky named "Tigre". David came over to meet us for an evaluation, after meeting up with David I agreed on a 3 week training program which included boarding. We finalized the contract and set a date. I was a bit worried at that moment because my dog had separation anxiety which David pointed out during the evaluation. When the day to check in Tigre came I met David at his house(which is where Tigre stayed/trained). It took about 30 minutes to check in, David showed me around. I felt good leaving my dog behind after seeing David's set up. I did notice David has lots of cameras, even a portable monitor he takes with him to bed. Another important detail was that this is David's full time job, so he won't get home after work to your dog somehow stuck somewhere or worse! He is always around keeping an eye on things, which is awesome. Another detail was David mentioned my dog was more comfortable(less barking) in the garage. When we picked up tigre we stayed in the living room while David went threw the routine. Another fact to point out is that David is an AKC evaluator, which i took advantage of and certified my dog as a Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) , & Urban CGC. I am also currently working with David to acquire Advanced CGC; The "CGCA" Title which is the top of the cgc titles. As far as training my stubborn Siberian Husky everything included in the 3 week program was dominated by David himself. My dog came back better then ever, he doesn't pull any more and understands all the commands David taught him. I would highly recommend David/loyal k9. Remember that the dog is not the only student training in this scenario the human will require training as well when David returns your dog. We adopted our German Shepherd mix Tango from the animal shelter. She had obviously been abused as she was severely underweight when she got picked up by animal control. She was extremely neurotic, pull on her leash, hard to housetrain, aggressive with other dogs/people, etc (super long list of problems). Dave is awesome! Just to start off, I found him on Yelp and decided on him because of his reviews. I called him literally from the shelter because I knew no matter what I'd want my dog to have some basic obedience and he was all for it. We started off with an in home evaluation (I'm in Lake Elsinore) so he even came all the way here (big plus!) and he met Samson, my pit mix. Curveball: my dog was super sick and lethargic - he advised me to take him to the vet - I decided to still sign up but wait til he was cleared to start. Dave was patient even with all that mess. Fast fwd: Samson goes for the 3 week on leash 6ft and 30ft leash board and train camp. (I was going to do 2 week but it's more bang for your buck as he would say for the 3 week). So for those that don't know you drop your dog off for the 2/3 weeks and then come back to learn and practice all things your dog was taught at the end of the program. It's absolutely worth it for the convenience and ease to be honest, especially if you don't have the time or knowledge to work on all of it every day with your dog. I was glooowing with pride the day I came to get him and was hiding inside watching him cycle through everything he had learned. My crazy little hyper pit who just wants to jump all over you and nuzzle your legs was a whole another dog and actually listening! :) It was harder than I thought for ME to get down the stuff I had to do with him like stepping off the right foot or uh, walking backwards.. But we're getting there! The program also came with an in home follow up visit which was super helpful for cleaning up some things and other advice. I highly recommend setting up an evaluation with Dave. Other side notes: I looked through yelp/sites and gave a few calls for board and train options and was blown away (not in a good way) by prices. Daves was definitely more reasonable, if not the most. Personally, I don't need Samson to have acres of land and all these extra overhead causing perks for training - I just needed him to be well taken care of (safe, fed, walked, bathed) and well trained. Both of which he was. Also, Daves experience in military k9 training is top notch which is a huge plus. I'll definitely be coming back for some off leash training next. Thanks Dave! read more

We sent our tenacious labrabull Isis to Dave after having difficulties on walks and hikes. Isis is a sweet girl but very nervous/anxious. On walks she would pull, bark, and become aggressive towards other dogs she would see. When she met people Isis would become overly excited, kissing, jumping, and inadvertently scratching an arm or leg (sorry Dave). We called Dave and set up an in-home evaluation. Dave came and met with us and Isis. He was very knowledgeable dogs in general and about dog nutrition and safety. He even took a look at out backyard for thorns that could get stuck in a dog's paw. After evaluating Isis he recommended the 2 week boot camp that would teach her basic obedience and some manners. We trusted Dave and took a chance sending Isis with him that same day. We went over the contract, paid a deposit, and went over her health conditions and eating schedule. With that, Isis left us for 2 weeks! During those 2 weeks Dave was easy to get a hold of, and returned calls and texts. He even purchased Isis' specific dog food when she ran out. When we went to pick Isis up, Dave first worked Isis and then reunited us. What a difference in our girl! Immediately we could tell she was a changed dog. She didn't jump on us! She also heeled beautifully and followed all the other commands. After being reunited, Dave trained us on the methods and handling of the leash. He was very patient and encouraging during the lesson. Since being back Isis has been more calm and listens to her commands. We have been working with her and her commands both in the yard and on walks. Thanks to Dave Isis now has a foundation from which she can only get better. We would wholeheartedly recommend Dave and his training. David works well with the customers and helps out as much as he can and offers some amazing training classes and boarding. Very polite and has everything needed for a dog to enjoy his time there when their not training. When training he doesn't stick to one area he likes to train in different areas around different distractions. I was going through training at PetSmart and they liked the idea of treats and actually only teaching for 5 minutes and have you walk around the store for the remaining time. I prefer not to have a dog only listen when there are treats involved. Dave is a miracle worker. We sent our 5 month old corgi, Sheba, to his 3 week boot camp. Smart dog, VERY stubborn. With our busy schedules, we knew we didn't have the time to commit to training her ourselves. Dave let us know to watch the videos on his website to get an idea for the training (since he would be training us when we pick her up). We could not even imagine Sheba doing any of the things in the video, but Dave certainly loves to prove the skeptics wrong... and he did!! When we came to pick up Sheba, he went over the basic training with us, then did a demonstration with her to show us what she can do. We were amazed! She knows both verbal and some nonverbal commands for sitting, staying, heeling, laying down, and more. He trained her on both a 6ft leash and a 30ft leash. After his demonstration, he took us out to train us how to keep up with her training at home. The first 72 hours upon her return are vital, as she is very susceptible to going back to her old ways. So far, so good! Dave will come back out to our house in a week or 2 to follow up and make sure all is good. Dave's home is clean and well kept. We felt very comfortable leaving her there. Last month I contacted Loyal K-9 hoping to find someone who could change the behavior of our 10 month old German Shepard. He had developed a very strong prey drive toward our cat and would not leave him be. Our puppy's anxiety level was increasing day by day! I called thinking an in home consultation would help us solve our problem. But to my surprise, what I received over the phone, at no charge mind you, was the most in depth, honest evaluation of our predicament! We talked for an hour and at the end of our conversation, based on all the information I gave him, we came up with what was probably the best plan of action to stop his behavior. Neither he nor I are advocates of using a training collar if there are other options but in my case I had already exhausted those options. Needless to say, it worked. Within a week, Zacks behavior began to change. By 2 weeks he had calmed down so much that all I had to do was show him the remote control whenever he and the cat were in the same room. There she learned how to do all her commands on a 6ft leash in German. She learned obedience and how to walk on leash. David and Cathy really took care of her. She had major separation anxiety and they took her in and made her as comfortable as they could during those two weeks. After the 2 weeks of training they met up with me for a follow up session. During that follow up session I learned so much. My dog is very leash reactive and I did not know how to stop it. David took time to teach me how to walk and control my dog. When I didn't get it the first time, he would help me through it again and again until I had it down. So, not only a great dog trainer, but a fantastic human teacher as well. Cathy is am amazing cook. My dog is a very picky eater and does not eat her kibbles (I've tried numerous brands and types). During the two weeks there, I was thinking for sure my dog would starve. Instead, Cathy gave my dog one of her gourmet cooked dog meals. She showed me what was in it and I became an instant customer. Her meals are very healthy and looks delicious enough for me to eat. We met David when he came to our house for an initial consultation with our dog Jasmine. We were having problems house breaking her. After David met our dog he let us know that because the previous owners possibly spaded our dog when she was too young she may always suffer from incontinence. He gave us some tips on how to potty train her & help maintain her bathroom breaks. Everything he told us worked! It's been 3 months & we are very pleased with how well our dog is responding to the new training tips. Our Yellow Lab's training with David started with an in home assessment. He was punctual, friendly, professional and courteous. With in 5 minutes of our dog being on the leash he was walking him without the dog pulling. He had our business at that point. We scheduled our dog for 3 week training with an emphasis on walking, sitting, staying and door crashes. At the end of the 3rd week we picked up our dog and we were amazed. Our dog performed well in his demonstration. David then started our training with approximately 1.5 hours of training on how to continue and reinforce the training our pup had received. Our dog continues to improve as we work with him. David made a follow up visit about a week and a half after we picked up our dog to answer questions, teach us training techniques for one or two more commands and to coach/critique our instruction of the dog. I sent David a message inquiring about training for my puppy and I'm nowhere near disappointed in his response... He is very polite, but straight forward... He didn't sugar coat anything and let me know what I was doing wrong right over the phone... He's not about stealing your money and making a profit at all, he wants what is in the best interest for you and your dog... This review is long over due but here it is. My wife and I sent our 5 month old Newfoundland, Odin to Daves 3 week boot camp. I work out of town and my wife is new to dog ownership so I wanted him to have the basics down. Dave was more than accommodating to our busy schedule and made my wife feel confident and comfortable with our soon to be enormous dog. About a week into the boot camp, Dave called me up and said that Odin had become sick. His sickness had to do with a pre-existing medical issue and IN NO WAY was related to the bootcamp or Daves training facility. So I picked Odin up, took him to the vet and got him all healed up. 2 weeks later Dave took Odin back no questions asked and started his training over again from square one. This was great because Odin got an extra week of socialization and structure. We continued with the original contract and paid no extra money for the first week. Dave showed great concern and care to my sick pup and put his health above everything else. I'm happy to say Odin is doing well and with the continued training that Dave showed us is becoming more and more well behaved. If your dog needs training i highly recommend Loyal K-9. If I could give more stars I would. David is a life and shoe saver . My husband and I took in this puppy when he was 2 months old he is a rottie-shepherd mix(or so we think) and he is crazy that is why he was named Taz!!. All our prev dogs were small, really small 4lb and 7lbs chihuahuas and a small terrier. So here we are with this crazy super hyper puppy that eats and chews on everything and everyone around him (good thing he was cute cause he was so bad). My teen child saw David's truck and took at picture of the number and sent it to my husband but we did not call until later. Months passed and things were going from bad to worse, this cute little puppy was getting huge and heavy and continued to destroy things. He started eating the fence (yes the fence) and all my plants and toys and anything he can find, especially dirty socks and shoes (he is gross.) By this point, we were having trouble walking him everyday because if he saw another dog, cat, bike, or anything that he did not like he would go crazy and pull none stop to get to that. He would bark and bark, the scary part was when he would get so mad all his hair along his spine will stand up and he will get so difficult to control. I had stop walking him all together cause I was not able to hold him, so this turned into a job only my husband could do and with his work hrs it was not easy. We know 1st hand what is like to be attacked by an aggressive dog- one of our chihuahuas was attacked and kill by a neighbors dog when Taz was only 4 months old and now Taz was on his way to be the same way. Luckily, we remember the picture and called David. This 1st call was over a year ago , we told him the problems and we liked him immediately, I like when people tell you the true up front and I value honesty more than sugar coating it. He took his time, explained what we were doing wrong (everything), gave recommendations on different leashes and collars to use, and also explained the way he does things and him program and the BIG one, the prices unfortunately at the time we were not able to afford it so we had to wait. I researched so many other trainers and boot camps and Petco and PetSmart but nobody else really seemed as experienced as David was. A better price yes but I do believe you get what you pay for, so after almost a year later we finally call David and scheduled an evaluation, things were worse. David came to our home and saw Taz (he said I can already tell your dog is a wimp lol.) We took a walk around the block and he saw all the issues we had. He took control of the dog, immediately we saw how Taz changed and his behavior was so different. I was so shocked, at this point we knew we wanted Taz to be part of his program. Taz was with David for 3 weeks and on pick up day he was so different. We did all his training stuff and we were not sure it was the same dog. Taking him home was a bit scary, I felt like we were just gonna mess up all the good progress David did. I strongly recommend David 110%. His ability to handle a dog is impressive and he also teaches the humans that we are messing up and i can respect that. He is worth every penny, Taz will also be part of the next level class next year. Taz has made a complete change. He no longer destroys everything in his path, he also stop eating the fence and shoes. He sticks to only chewing his toys and walk are a breeze. He does everything on command, follows directions in a way that other people get impressed when they meet him. So thank you David for saving all of our shoes and our home. We adopted a pitbull in January of this year and after searching several dog training sites I found David. We have a very sweet pitt but he needed to learn his commands and both he and I had to figure out his separation issues. David was very up front and straight forward with us and after our dogs 3 week program we've seen a big difference. Our car rides are no longer filled with my dog pacing, crying and wining and we can take him out in public and he follows his commands. We continue to work with him everyday and we see a difference in him each day. Thank you David for helping us and also teaching how to work with Porter! STAY AWAY!!!!! AND DO NOT SIGN HIS CONTRACT!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a horrible experience with Dave Pellerin (Loyal K9) - he was initially okay, but then became rude, condescending, and arrogant. He also kept badgering me to raise my voice to my dog, despite my dog obeying when I spoke in a normal tone of voice after a few sessions. I finally called him before the 6th session and asked him politely to cancel the contract because for $100 a session, I don't appreciate him acting like a jerk to me and my dog. He refused to cancel the contract, and became even more rude the last two sessions. Then I tried to schedule the last session, and Dave was very difficult about scheduling me for the last session and then tried to get me to pay him an extra $100 for not being with in the same "week". Then he sent me a nasty text saying that even though I tried to schedule three times within the same week, I "violated" our contract. And then sent me about 15 more messages the same day that became progressively more disturbed.. FIND SOMEONE ELSE!!! Since writing this review, Dave Pellerin of Loyal K-9 has texted me repeatedly, super long messages, from his icloud account (which yelp made me remove from here), and threatened to sue me for over $10,000 for posting this review on yelp. How messed up is that? This guy doesn't even contact me through his cell phone, on which we've had all contact previously, he contacts me from a icloud account that doesn't have his name on it. HE ALSO TOLD ME HE VIDEOTAPED MY DOG TRAINING SESSIONS WITH MY DOG "because we did it in a public area, there is no law against it", and HAD A WITNESS (his apprentice Kady) THAT HE SAID HE WILL 'use against me in court when he sues me'. Since I never said or did anything that was not polite by phone or in person, I'm not too worried about that. He never told me he was videotaping the sessions, and I certainly never would have consented to that- it's so creepy!!!! If anyone wants a copy of his messages, notify me on here and I will send you copies (be aware there are many, and they are extremely long). I strongly recommend you find someone else, unless you want to get harassed by him and have him threaten to sue you. read more

We just got a 4-year old dog and my sister did some research and found Loyal K-9. I am extremely particular about many things, and Dave was the perfect trainer for our border collie. What peaked my interest was Dave's background as a military dog handler. He came in to do an initial evaluation, and proved to be very knowledgeable about dogs. Our BC is very shy but he knew how to get her to go with him, which gave me further assurance that he knew what he was doing. My sister and I were preparing for a trip overseas, and we were very happy to know that Dave also boarded pets. It was very important to us that the pet sitter knew what to do when something goes wrong, not just board, feed and walk our BC. Aside from being fantastic with our dog, what really impressed me was how well kept Dave's place was. It is really clean, and did not smell like "dog"--which is a big thing for me. My personal likes: 1. You get more than your money's worth -- Not only will Dave train your dog, he will train you, as the owner (in our case both me and my sister), and he comes back a week/two later to make sure you (and your dog) remember the training. This is all inclusive and you do not pay extra. 2. Well-run business--It is not your typical pet sitter. You have contracts, formal discussions about the training/boarding process, and feedback on your pet. You get a graduation certificate at the end. 3. Dave lets you record your training sessions--Very helpful for review and trust me, you will need them. He also has training videos on YouTube you can watch FOR FREE. 4. Dave is not a pushy salesperson -- He has great products he recommend, but you are not obligated to buy. 5. Dave genuinely loves the dogs he works with -- Dave is firm, but gentle, and not impatient. He knows how to get the dogs to listen to him, but he knows when they need a break. 6. This is not just a business for Dave -- Dave is passionate about what he does, and he really wants to make sure you learn to care for your pets right. He does not rush through his sessions, and he was really patient with both my sister and I and always went over the scheduled times with us. Highly recommended. read more

My family has benefitted tremendously from the training given to us and our dogs by David at Loyal K9. When we called him, we felt like adopting our 3rd dog was a mistake and that our dogs were out of control. It seemed like our training attempts made small improvements but with three dogs having different learning needs and attitudes, I felt incredibly overwhelmed and SUPER tired. David gave private lessons for 8 weeks, working with me, my husband, and our 3 dogs, solving many of our issues quickly. We found the private lessons to be affordably priced, especially when comparing to the other training tools we'd spent money on or looked into. He showed care and concern for our dogs and communicated clearly with us to make sure we were comfortable with what we were doing and understood all the steps. I am absolutely in love with animals and especially my dogs, so I was really happy to see my dogs enjoy the process as well! Some of the issues we were dealing with: - blocking the door because they were excited to see us so we'd struggle to get in - running out the door and down the street when we are walking in - jumping on us excitedly (75 lbs.... not fun) - pulling on walks, and sometimes getting away to run after a cat or to barking dogs - our friendly big dogs would not give visitors personal space (so they'd be crated or put outside) and our shy dog would often act aggressively towards strangers. From the very beginning, our dogs responded positively to David, and we were eager to learn! We first learned how to praise and correct our dogs effectively so that our dogs understand the behaviors that are "good" and what is not acceptable. Then, each week we worked on new behaviors. It has been a couple of months since completing the 8-week training, and the dogs continue to improve. They are more calm and confident, and we are all very happy about it! My favorite behavior is the "place" command. I say; "place," and all three dogs run to their resting spots. They stay there until I say; "take a break," and give them a reward of petting and/or praises and/or treats. I love this command because when I come home with groceries, I can use the command and unload the car peacefully; when guests come over, the command allows the dogs to chill out and nap while we visit; when the dogs are getting too boisterous in the house or even in the yard, all I have to do is say, "place," and all three will go chill out. AMAZING. In the future, we will be calling David at Loyal K9 for help in continuing to socialize our dogs, and probably for refresher classes. :) read more
