Seeing how well she responded we wanted to immediately start her in his 3 week course as AKKs are known for darting and not listening. However, Dave said "Let your puppy be a puppy and contact us in a couple more months." I really appreciate him saying that. We continued training her at home while enjoying her puppy bonding time and 2 1/2 months later dropped her off. Three weeks without her was hard but we did it! When we picked her up we found the same happy pup but with added obedience. She even retained the training we taught her at home (we have a dog door bell system to signal outside for potty). Her auto-sit while walking and sit+stay / down+stay on leash are quite impressive and you can tell how proud she is when performing these commands as well as sitting at the door waiting to be invited in/out. In the back yard she's perfect with 'heel' but in the real world she's still a bit excited. That's expected with her breed and we will continue to train daily with the skills Dave taught us. Online classes and other group training. She would not HEEL at my side very well either. The worst part was when we went to fairs, food truck, stores and other places with dogs and crowds. I could not control her. It was so frustrating for her and for me. She was pulling and wanting to jump on dogs and people. After researching a number of dog trainers in St George, I wasn't really happy with the feedback or response -- until I met with Brian. He came by the home and had an immediate connection with Lake. I've had issues with him before over the $70 exam fee that he spent doing for less than two minutes to tell me yep he's okay all for $70. However, I located the confirmation email from the veterinary hospital, which clearly stated that my appointment was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The receptionist was courteous and explained that several patients were already waiting and that the hospital was also handling an emergency. I understood that emergencies must take priority, so I was prepared to wait. My concern is not that the hospital accepted an emergency patient. My concern is that, after the initial explanation, I received no further updates about the delay or how much longer I might be waiting. After an hour, I still had not been seen and was not given a revised estimate. I was left with the impression that I could be waiting another hour or two, so I decided to leave. I am sharing this experience because, as consumers, we should expect better communication and greater respect for our time. Emergencies are unavoidable, but clients should not be left waiting indefinitely without updates or options. If a veterinary hospital accepts emergency cases, appointments should be scheduled with enough flexibility to accommodate unexpected delays rather than booking patients in 15-minute increments with little or no margin. Clients with upcoming appointments could also be called or texted to let them know that an emergency has occurred and that there may be a significant wait. This would allow them to decide whether to wait or reschedule before making the trip. Another option would be to ensure appropriate staffing and establish a triage process that provides clients with a more realistic estimate of the expected wait time. At the very least, patients who have already waited an hour should be offered the opportunity to reschedule, along with a meaningful gesture such as a discount on the rescheduled visit. In my case, I was initially informed about the emergency, but there were no additional updates, no apology for the extended delay, no reliable estimate of when I might be seen, and no alternative offered other than continuing to wait or leaving. I chose to leave. Emergencies deserve immediate attention, but scheduled clients still deserve ongoing communication, consideration, and options.
