The inspector advised us as to what the issue could be and we asked Chicago Plumbing Experts to provide a quote to fix the issue. Will diagnosed the issue as being a busted P trap. He provided a quote for $3,879 to break up the concrete around the P trap, install a new P trap, hydro-jet the drain and sewer system, and "re-concrete kitchen drain/vent line assuming line is fine." As new home owners, we thought this was a fair price and we agreed to the price and the invoice, and two guys (I can't remember their names) came out to address the issue. They were 1.5 to 2 hours late and when they arrived they were unfamiliar with what services they were to be providing. We actually had to show them our copy of the invoice so they could familiarize themselves with the job they were supposed to be completing. After about an hour, they notified us that they needed to go buy some supplies. This seemed normal, but they were gone for three hours. When they returned they told us they had to go all the way to Brookfield (from Chicago) to retrieve the hydro-jet, which was supposed to have been brought with them to begin with, according to the services listed on the invoice. Now the kitchen drain. I will accept fault for accepting the wording of the invoice. We knew the kitchen drain was NOT fine, and I assumed they would fix it once they removed the concrete and confirmed that it wasn't fine. They did not fix the kitchen drain. They removed the concrete, confirmed what the inspector had already told us, and used a towel (provided by us) to fill the gapping hole around the corroded pipe. They told us they could re-concrete the drain, but it would need to be serviced in the same way as the P trap (meaning it was going to cost us another $4K to properly fix the issue because they needed to break up the concrete, install a new pipe, and re-concrete the kitchen drain). In addition to this, they decided to hydro-jet the drain and sewer system by using the stack in the basement. They broke the cap on the stack and did not have a replacement in their truck. They told my fiancé what he needed to buy and told him where to buy it. They were about to explain how to install it, but he told them he wanted to go buy the replacement cap and have them install it before they left. They told him the cap needed to be 4 inches so that's what he bought. It turned out the cap needed to be 3.75 inches so the cap my fiancé bought didn't fit. They instead filled the hole with plastic bags and said they would come back to fix it, for an additional charge. They didn't even end up using the stack to hydro-jet the drain and sewer system...they used the catch basin in the backyard. Breaking the cap on the stack was entirely preventable. We called to complain to Will after they left two holes in our basement and he told us they would be back on Monday to put a cap on the stack and to re-concrete the kitchen drain, as discussed. They did return on Monday, but they were there for less than ten minutes to put a cap on the stack and then they left. Although they were there twice, they did not clean up their mess and I had to dispose of the extra rags and their water bottles. They did correct the issue with the P trap, but it was NOT worth it. The service was very unprofessional and overpriced. Advice for new homeowners: assume NOTHING and get EVERYTHING in writing, whether you hire Chicago Plumbing Experts or someone else. Save yourself the expense and the headache.

I live in a newly constructed condo, but some of the contractors workmanship was shoddy. After only…read more6 months, the garbage disposal began leaking due to being installed improperly. My sister called Good Plumbing after seeing some favorable recommendations from neighbors on the Nextdoor website. She was told it would be $300 to remove the garbage disposal, reseal it and remount it. Not knowing any better she decided to go ahead with the job and Pete arrived a short time later that very same evening. He said he'd be in the area and could stop by on his way from another job. Pete completed the job effectively, but his customer service left something to be desired. When he was done I asked him if there would be an additional charge in the event he had to come out again. He seemingly took this as a personal attack on his job performance and stated there would be no reason for him to come out again. I attempted again to get my original question answered, but he insisted it wouldn't be necessary. And when it came time to pay for the bill (via CC) he insisted on writing down my sister's full name, address, card number, zip code AND 3 digit security code on the back of the card. We both took issue with this for obvious reasons... it's simply not wise or safe to have that kind of information laying around on paper. Pete said it was GP policy to write down all that information and preceded to show us his clipboard containing a stack of customer receipts. All the receipts contained names, CC numbers, zip codes and security codes. I assume he was attempting to reassure us, but it did the exact opposite. I theorized if his truck was stolen then the thieves would have a field day charging up customer's credit cards. Pete balked at this suggestion stating that he'd never had a customer's information stolen in 35 years. And that previous customer's had charged upwards of 40k for certain jobs. As I said, Pete wasn't winning any customer service awards... Being dismissive of customer concerns isn't exactly the way to build rapport or loyalty. Also, it's 2021...there's no need for any service provider to be taking down customer's information. Not when there are a plethora of payment apps available that safely process payments. My sister plans to cancel her credit card and request a new one once the charge for Good Plumbing is processed. Adding insult to injury, a couple of male friends told me later that we had been severely overcharged for the service provided. One friend said we'd been "raped." Pete replaced the mounting bracket for the disposal which retails for about $20 because he said he didn't like the way our existing one looked. Then he sealed it with plumbers putty that costs about $5 at Home Depot. It maybe took him 15 minutes to do the job. I don't know what the average cost is to fix a leaking garbage disposal, but I do know the Badger model I have retails for $110. So basically, I could've had two new ones for the price we paid. That didn't feel great, but you live and learn. Next time I'll use Task Rabbit and save a few bucks. On a positive note, I appreciated Pete's prompt response... it wasn't an emergency, but the same day service was a plus. We called a few other places and was told it'd be anywhere from a few days to a week for someone to come out. Pete also wore a mask (properly) following Covid protocols. And so far his work has been solid. We haven't had any problems.

I have an older house that has a crawlspace and some additions that were added over the years. Mark, the owner, took his time to come up with a plan to access the hard to reach places underground. He clearly explained everything he was going to do ahead of time, how long it would take, cost, etc. so that I knew what to expect. It was a detailed job with lots of different areas that needed to be worked on. He didn't rush and took his time - which I appreciated. Now, I no longer have to worry about old, smelly, leaking sewage lines under my house. They did an excellent job cleaning up wherever they worked in the house. They also did a careful job to minimize the disturbance to my landscaping in my front yard, and they put everything back to how it was before.
