I requested a quote for a furnace replacement online and received a call shortly after. They arrived on time and gave me quotes on 2 units. Both prices seamed fair and they gave me multiple discounts. Jerry was the tech that came here. As a professional who hire contractors for numerous projects, I have NEVER been so disrespected as I was when the receptionist, NANCY, demanded that my NEW UNIT be paid IN FULL, PRIOR to any work is started! (The gentleman were already on-site ready to began, and shook their heads as I put the call on speaker. ) She threatened that 'THEY WOULD WALK OFF THE JOB' otherwise! I was taken back! When I explained that the initial evaluator, Jerry, said NO SUCH THING when he took my deposit, she dismissed it. I asked for EVIDENCE of this in their policy, and she became NASTIER, and refused to email EVIDENCE as she previously agree. Wow! What a reproach as a representative of Polar Bear Company... a stark contrast from Jerry! I was asked to EMAIL my drivers license OR display it to the servicemen upon arrival. I chose the latter, (especially with identity theft), and happily showed it to all three servicemen while speaking with NANCY on speaker. With a credit score well over 800 and NEVER a default, I can only say that perhaps 'I dodged a bullet.' As a result, I CANCELED THE CONTRACT! It's UNFORTUNATE that her mean-spirited and snarky attitude cost your company nearly $10, 000. Perhaps a REEVALUATION of NANCY's approach to consumers needs to happen asap. Today, I had to have Four Seasons come and give me a second opinion (other than duct tape). Besides the maintenance that wasn't done, and the heating sensor has to be replaced, Luckily they checked and we do have warranty on the furnace after being told that we don't. I am having to pay the labor to replace the part. If Polar replaces it, I would not be charged but I don't trust for Polar to replace it. I feel I should be compensated for the labor to install the sensor and for the last "maintenance" call. If anyone has had service issues, where you reimbursed for your troubles? read more

Great regret that we had this company install a boiler in our we are senior citizens my sister and I and we're led to believe that they would be professional responsible and back up their service agreement and warranty the boiler was installed in Chicago September 2024 we were disappointed in the output of the boiler no comparison to our 1961 that was only removed to update the HVAC in our home as of November 12th 2025 the boiler did not work we called polar they sent out a tech who was rude and told us that we have no power and we need to call an electrician however he switched on our main circuit breakers on and off at least 10 times until I found him doing so on a personal phone call not with his company refuse to call his company for help it was in our Boiler Room after going to his truck to get tools and so-called wires once he knew I had called to see what was going on with this Tech the next day they sent their head Tech Jerry who told us that the thermostat was not getting a signal and that our wires were cut when we wanted accountability as to what the former Tech did the day before they ignored it and told us that they would come back and Trace the lines within 2 days we didn't hear from them and called he came back out never went up to the attic as he said he would with another tech and put in a wireless thermostat of which we did not want after paying for the thermostat with the boiler in 2024 and by Friday our heat was out again and we had to call for them to return they did so today November 17th and refused to take any responsibility for the cut wires and for the trouble that was caused us by the technician that they sent out on Monday November 12th we are now in the process of seeking legal assistance because of these fraudulent practices we try to resolve it by calling Mike McLaughlin who is the owner of polar Heating have left messages asked him to call my sister and I back we are both seniors but to no avail I was placed on a phone with a man named Jerry who identified himself as a dispatcher I told me that I'm a troublemaker to not call polar heating any longer to stop bothering them that I am responsible for breaking the boiler by turning the thermostat off and on of which it went off on its own accord and we were without heat they refused to present us the permit that they were supposed to give us to do work in the city of Chicago of which we are now checking it will have to pursue legal action because their business practices are more than questionable they are despicable we want others to know that polar will take your money and not any time to listen and to resolve nor take any accountability for sending out technicians that cause problems polar has no integrity nor does their owner Mike McLaughlin who avoids calling back a customer who paid $10,000 for a boiler they have caused us great harm by what they have done and it will have to be addressed read more

This has been a major problem for two years. I have two small children and when I tell you I haven't slept in two years, it's not an exaggeration. My children wake up screaming every time they hear the knocking. I have to turn the boiler off during nap time to get some peace. I'd rather have them take the boiler out, give me $11k back and plug in electric heaters. Worse experience of my life. This is our 7th year in our home. We received a new boiler, with installation September 18, 2023. Since that day we have been hearing a loud banging throughout our home called knocking. The knocking is coming from the main steam pipe in the boiler. We called the company to notify them and have been going back and forth every since. YES, TWO WINTERS NOW! I have repeatedly called them, they'uve sent someone out to bandaid the problem. End of 2024 when we were fed up, they finally sent men over to repipe the boiler, after 24 hours, STILL KNOCKING! After they told me I needed to replace all the radiators in my home to fix it. Why has the knocking never happened prior? Coincidence that it happened when new boiler was installed? Come on. I've called other companies in the interim to get three opinions and they're all telling me the main steam header needs replacing. After fighting with them to come check it out, they came to our home on Friday, 4/11/2025. After review the engineer from the boiler manufacturer agreed repiping needed to be redone. Jerry told my husband they would be in contact to set something up Monday. Sent an email to confirm with Matt, install manager, who agreed. Monday came, Matt told me end of the week. End of the week, Friday, 4/18/2025, no word. I call the company and he's on vacation... with the owner. Called Monday, 4/21/2025, refuses to take my calls, put on hold for over 15 minutes. Emailed sent, no response. 4/22/2025, my husband tries to call and get a hold of Matt and Jerry, doesn't get to speak with anyone. I apologized to the front staff for any direct communication as they informed me they don't know what's going on. Surely it's not their fault. However, I don't understand why we're not getting answers? Here we are, rolling into another summer just in time to turn off our boiler and forget about it until the fall. They came out, assessed the situation and gave us a quote of what our costs were going to be that the insurance company didn't cover. Per Jeff's response, we live in a multi unit dwelling where one unit used your business but the unprofessional service staff effected us and the neighbors on either side of our building. My boiler went out in my apartment, it's 15 degrees in Chicago, I sent a request for a quote and it took them too long to get back to me. They made me wait another day to send a repair tech. They gave me a service window between 3pm and 6pm, I did not receive a call until 8:15pm letting me know that they can be there at 8:45 pm and the tech asked me what the problem was after I had explained it to the dispatcher already. I got in touch with Polar for an estimate on some small work I needed done at my home. The company was responsive and a tech came out the last week of December. He said to expect an estimate after New Years, about a week away. I called after two weeks had gone by, the company said he hadn't forgotten about me, was just behind. It's now been another week and I gave up and I'm calling someone else. It shouldn't take three weeks to draw up an estimate, he probably just doesn't feel like doing the work because it's not a big $$ project. If you're gonna send people out to take estimates then keep on top of them to make sure they're getting them done or if you don't like doing small jobs then say so up front so people don't waste their time. read more

Polar was at my office condo to service my rooftop unit Dec 8th 2021. Their service professional was out to the office and told me my unit needed to be replaced because the condenser was shot. He sent me pics and said he'd need to turn it off because it was a hazard. Then he spoke to my office staff - and then he left. There was no follow-up. There was no explanation of next steps. Nothing. Nada. For this, they sent me a bill for $250+. I never got a call back from Polar. They left me without heating. I had to shutter the location for a week. I had to get someone else to come in and redo the service call - and come up with an action plan to replace the unit. I have 6 units in all - and they will all have a new HVAC provider in 2022 - and it won't be Polar, it will be the guys who followed through and completed the job. read more

I called because I needed my radiators inspected before the cold weather sets in and I have to turn the heat on. I was given an appointment 3 weeks out with a 3-hour window for the technician to show up. Yesterday was the scheduled appointment and was the first truly cold day we've had since fall started. About an hour and a half after the window opened, my husband called and was told that the technician would get to us soon. At the end of the 3-hour window, my husband called again and was told that the technician had been on a job that took longer than expected, but that he was on his way. After another hour, my husband called again and no one answered. The technician never showed up, and I never got a call explaining why. We had to use space heaters just to get the house to an above freezing temperature. After receiving no call this morning, I called the company and was told that one technician thought another technician was going to do the job. I was told I could reschedule another appointment with a $20 discount in the price for the inconvenience. It was more than an "inconvenience" to me and my family as we struggled to stay warm and worried about the pipes in the home. I have lost all trust in the ability of the company to follow through even if another appointment was scheduled and have now looked elsewhere for service. read more

While using his gauge it burst, as he told me he had no answers, he proceeded to charge me for the diagnostic. My AC unit stays on for two(2) seconds now and immediately shuts off. If I could give this company negative stars, I would. My elderly, wheelchair bound father called Polar to come out and service his boiler. He has radiant heat in the floors of the back half of the house since the house sits on a slab and the floors get ice cold in the winter. He did not have them installed...they were there when he bought the house and they run off of the boiler. When the technician came out from Polar, he tinkered with the boiler for about 5 minutes and then told my father the boiler was shot and he needed a new one. He also said that the new unit would need to be turned so that they could access it in the future for repair. He quoted my dad $4,700-$5,000 to replace it. My dad called several other companies to get another estimate and unfortunately he was either out of their service area or the company did not work on boilers. When he told me what had happened, I was absolutely floored. Every pun intended. Luckily, I manage two low-income senior independent living buildings in the city. I called the owner of the plumbing company that I used at the building and the owner had me send him photos of the unit. He sent out a technician a few days later (today) and the technician fixed the issue in less than an hour. It was one wire that was loose on the top of the unit and a switch that was stuck underneath the unit, which the technician from Polar, never discovered. My dad ended up paying about $300 for the service call and the repair. I work with seniors daily and my dad is a senior and I hate seeing them taken advantage of. My dad was genuinely scared that he was going to have to come up with $5,000 for a new boiler. I don't know if the technician from Polar was inexperienced or just lazy, but this is completely unacceptable. read more

We called Polar to do annual service this year (we have used them for a little more than a year). We had heard a new and different noise coming from our Navien tankless boiler and wanted to get it checked out asap. Last year Polar reconfigured the pipes to the unit that was previously installed by another company not to proper specifications at a cost of $2600. They also installed a new expansion tank when ours sprung a pinhole leak. Cost $644. So on this visit, the Polar technician and the Navien (manufacturer) technician weren't sure what was wrong, so a vinegar flush at $189 was recommended and agreed to by us. Let me just mention that the boiler was operational before we called them. After the flush, everything seemed operational until we woke the next morning to water all over the floor, and pouring out of the unit. We closed the water supply, unplugged the unit, and called Polar immediately. At that point, a different technician came out that evening and said he would get back to us the next day. When he came were told that the heat exchanger was bad and basically, it was our fault for not doing an annual vinegar flush (the unit was totally drained, reconfigured and refilled less than 1 yr ago, but apparently not flushed). He never even talked about the fact that the heat exchanger was covered under warranty. When I brought it up, we were told "Polar doesn't own the unit" and that we would have to go back to the company who installed it to have them deal with the warranty. He also said "you're wasting your time talking to me, when you should be talking to them". However, both the first and second technician did tell us the cost of a new unit $7500, which I'm sure was their ultimate goal. Our Navien unit was only 4 years old and a great deal of the parts are still under warranty. It is totally untrue that just because a company did not install the unit originally, that they aren't able to communicate with the manufacturer to help a customer deal with a product issue. The final technician was rude and repeatedly stated, "We don't own the unit". No, you don't...we do! After spending about $3600 to Polar in the last year, the last service just days ago ($269) which left us with no heat, with no offer to help us deal with Navien and the warrantied parts, we are done! Thank goodness the weather has been mild. We had another company come today who had no problem getting the warrantied parts overnighted. Hopefully, we will be back up and running within a day or two. Bottom line....Don't choose Polar! read more

Everything was cleaned up when they left. Price very reasonable. Made a call to check out the boiler after it was installed, technician arrived within a few hours it was all resolved the same day. Definitely recommend. Follow up letter from the President of the company received within a few days after each installation explaining the warranty and to express his appreciation for business. Highly recommend. Used polar again when we moved to LaPorte. Had new furnace and AC put in. I was so happy that they service NW INDIANA. Received a very reasonable estimate. The technician who installed were very professional and cleaned up after themselves. They showed us how the furnace works. Made sure we understood everything. I originally installed my HVAC unit with Polar back in September 2020. Polar addressed most of my concerns, and I wasn't going to issue a negative review until they were not responsive when I attempted to schedule the routine maintenance nearly a year later. My most recent encounter was with Angel, a customer service representative who hung up on me after I informed him of my intent to issue a negative review. There was a five-year labor warranty as part of my installation and for the warranty to be honored the customer must perform the annual maintenance, which is fine and makes sense. However, since I had internal complaints with them, they are not being responsive to my request for routine maintenance, which obviously means they don't plan to honor the warranty. I plan to get a refund for the estimated value of the labor portion of the warranty. Since they are not working with me, my credit card company said that I would have grounds to dispute the charge although the purchase was made last year. However, I will take them to court for not honoring the warranty rather than going through my credit card company. I also filed a complaint with the BBB . Below are my original issues on top of fact that they don't want to perform routine maintenance for the unit they installed. In short, make sure that you do your homework with Polar because they don't give you all the recommendations that they should, which could cost you money down the road. Plus, make sure that you watch them with the upcharges because they give some ridiculous estimates. The AC Coil they installed was not Rheem branded, a fact they failed to communicate prior to installation. I didn't find this out until I registered for the warranty. I'm not sure why they wouldn't have informed me as the customer. There was 12-inch flexible duct installation that I assumed would be included with the installation, but it was not, and I had to request that the service be performed. Jerry offered the courtesy installation since this is generally not included when installing a new unit. I appreciated the installation, but I have no idea why Polar wouldn't have told me that the duct was in bad shape and needed replacement when I was given the original quote. It wasn't until after the install that I noticed the duct had not been replaced, and I asked the question. I honestly assumed that this would be replaced as part of the ac/furnace install because of the holes in the duct and the fact that there was no insulation. People install these units once every 20 years while Polar does it every day, so how would I know that this is an extra service? This impacts the efficiency of my unit and a competent installer would notify the customer and leave the decision up to them. But for some reason, Polar either missed it or incorrectly assumed that I would not have paid for this installation. This is like taking a car to a mechanic to have the brake pads replaced and the mechanic failing to mention that the brake fluid needs replacement as well. I would have gladly paid for this extra labor if I was informed. Polar charged me $250 to install a thermostat that didn't match what was in the brochure and was way over retail price. After I complained, they refunded me $190. When they gave me the original estimate, they did not inform me that the existing nest thermostat I had installed was not compatible with the new unit? The Nest would have worked, but it would have taken some more time to do the wiring. Taken as a whole, this is not a company that valued my business. All this follow-up takes time, and it's not worth dealing with people that don't value their customers. I just had my first-floor unit replaced last week, and the company was great. They were transparent, offered a longer warranty, and I gladly paid a little extra to deal with competent people. read more

Outrageous prices and does not honor Rheem warranty. Polar Heating replaced a defective furnace blower motor that was covered under the Rheem parts warranty. It took the technician 1 hour to replace the motor and charged me $1200 labor. They later claimed that they had to pay for the motor. That should not be my problem. According to a Ruud/Rheem customer consultant no claim has been submitted for this part. read more

The tech came out and gave me a written estimate. Two weeks later when I called to schedule the work I was told that they could not honor the written quote. CALL ANYONE ELSE!!! I called them to repair an A/C line that had a hole put into it during a roofing repair. I explained everything to them over the phone, when the technician called me, he had no idea what was going on. I was under the assumption that they were coming out to repair it. Instead they came out told me it would be cheaper to replace the whole system instead of repairing. After being told that, I asked for the estimates for both. After 24 hrs and 2 phone calls. They finally sent me the quotes they charged me $100 for. The technician Omar completely lied to me and the repair was $2000 less than a new install. The repair was also priced extremely high and was nothing but a grab to get me a new system. I called another company, they repaired it for $1500 less than what polar quoted me. They completely refuse to refund me my $100 and won't let me speak with a manager. Don't walk, run from this place. Use anybody else. Had offer on website for 95%EF furnace for $1895.00. When called for a quote to install one, quote came back at double that price. Would not admit to false advertising so claimed they did not want the job due to an issue with my existing furnace. Every time I asked why they would not give me the offered deal there was a different reason why; first it was only for already existing high efficiency furnaces and an exchange of such, then it was only offered on 40,000 btu furnaces and also that the promo price did not include labor and taxes though cleared stated that the price was for an installed furnace.
