My first visit to Lu Buffet was today for lunch with a friend who recommended it. The pros: senior lunch prices are a bargain at $14. Lots of choices and unlimited quantities. They have a Pho station, a sushi station, and many rows of buffet selections. A drink (like soda or hot tea) is included. Given the number of options, everyone should find something. Plenty of fruit and salad. Also some quasi American standards like pizza. The mehs: There were some items that were so-so. Vegetables on the hot bar (green beans, broccoli, mushrooms) were pretty tasty. Chicken (General Tso's style was pretty chewy. Sushi was ok but not amazing in terms of flavor. Some apps like spring rolls were on the bland side Bottom line, go for the value, the overwhelming number of choices.

We visited Lu Buffet for a group get-together on a Saturday. Great idea! First you pay at the counter (military and senior discounts!) then grab a plate! We reserved three tables at the back of the "party room" which is just a separate area for big groups. The waitress brought us drinks while we made trip after trip to the buffet. My favorites were the fried shrimp, Mongolian BBQ (pick your ingredients and watch them grilled), clams and clams and clams, and of course dessert (ube steamed buns were on point!). I hadn't been to an Asian buffet since before the pandemic and it's good to see them making a comeback. Whether you have a big groups or just want a big variety, Lu Buffet is a great way to go!

Once again Lu Buffet does not disappoint! This is a spot to get full. This is my go to for gaithersburg area buffet. The food is warm, filling and delicious every time. The seafood was very impressive on Sunday too. Full blue crab, mussels, shrimp, crawdads, you name it. This place will continue to be a regular spot for me! The only thing that could be improved would be the wait staff checking up on the tables more often for drink refills and or more napkins.

I was pleasantly surprised that COVID hasn't wiped this restaurant out. They had tasty selections and decent seafood options while keeping the price reasonable. There's also a hibachi grill and pho station but I didn't even get to try them because there were so many other options to choose from. If you do try this place, be cautious when trying the sushi and cold bar. While they refill the hot foods frequently, I didn't see much movement at the sushi and cold bar counter so they may be sitting there for a while.

As vmfar as Chinese buffets go, this one is pretty good! Food was fresh, lots of choices, and the price for lunch was cheap! Only issue was some of the food wasn't as hot as I'd like.

Good eats. Chicken was valid. Drinks came quickly. Cool water fountain. Like kinda scared of some of the eats but the rest was valid.

We went there with my family on Friday night. We all ended up being very sick after eating there. I have never got that sick.

I tried to go here for lunch today April 29 2019 because I saw this restaurant had an entry in Yelp so I thought it was open. The doors were still locked at 12:30pm and the place was dark, despite open hours posted on yelp. When will this open?

This was honestly one of the most disorganized restaurant experiences I've had in a long time…read more The service was confusing from the moment we sat down. After waiting a while, our waitress finally came over and took our order. We ordered an appetizer first while deciding on our entrees. A few minutes later, the exact same waitress returned and asked if we wanted to order any appetizers, apparently forgetting that we had already done so. I specifically asked whether the salmon in the Philly roll was fresh or smoked because I don't like smoked salmon. I was assured it was fresh. When it arrived, it was clearly smoked salmon. The bao buns were actually pretty good, although the lettuce was wilted and looked like it had been sitting around for a while. A different server eventually took our entrée order. Less than five minutes later, that same server came back and asked if we were ready to close out our check, despite the fact that we were still waiting for our food and had not received our entrees yet. When the food finally arrived, the ramen was disappointing. The noodles were undercooked and the broth was excessively salty. The katsu curry was the highlight of the meal and was genuinely delicious. Unfortunately, the miso soup that accompanied it was overloaded with dashi powder and tasted overwhelmingly fishy. Which made sense with the overpowering fish market smell upon entering the restaurant. To top it all off, when we were ready to leave, the server brought the credit card receipt for signature but forgot to bring a pen. Between the repeated service mistakes, incorrect menu information, lack of attention to the table, and inconsistent food quality, I'm genuinely surprised this restaurant has managed to stay in business. There are too many good ramen spots out there to justify returning here.

There's a limit on nigiri/sashimi to one piece per order. What that means is that, when you put in your first (and subsequent orders), you can order one tuna, one salmon, etc nigiri/sashimi. That is a lot better than what I originally thought, which was one nigiri/sashimi total for each round. The variety in the AYCE is impressive. Lots of sushi, sashimi, nigiri, salads, soups, variety of appetizers (not all fried stuff!) and hibachi (beef, chicken and shrimp). Tonight, the food arrived pretty quickly after we put in an order. There was an issue toward the end of the evening when the app stopped working at our table and the table next to ours. The Staff did what they could to fix things; it did take about 20 minutes, though. I'm assuming this isn't typical. Staff did say that this does happen from time to time and the customer needs to exit the app and reorder. Except for the 20 minute delay, things worked fine. We placed at least 12 small orders during our meal. The staff was very good about filling water glasses, bringing our food and taking away empty plates. Really - high praise for the staff. The restaurant is very pleasant to sit in. It has Asian motif and nice music playing over the PA. The only issue was with the ordering system, which, as I said, I'm thinking was unusual. Ice cream and soft drinks included.

Many raw things were warm, and I got terrible stomach pain and nausea from their raw oyster, which was warm and tasted terrible. This convinced me that their food is not being kept in safe conditions. Their sushi rolls with "spicy tuna" or "spicy salmon" were chock full of tempura/panko flakes mixed with the fish, resulting in barely any actual tuna or salmon in the roll. Any rolls with tempura shrimp were soggy and lukewarm. Don't trust any videos you see online of this place because the actual rolls you get are 70% rice. This is the worst sushi experience I've ever had, mainly because it caused terrible indigestion from unsafe food handling on Kabuto's part.

The food is made fresh. I know they are known for their souffle pancakes and desserts, but the dinner menu is also delicious. I have had the katsu sandwich and the curry. The sandwich was moist, hot, and had a great texture and flavor. The sauce they use also compliments the meat. The curry is a classic curry. The souffle pancakes are such a treat!! I have had the ube and strawberry flavor. I recommend the strawberry. The ube is good, but the icing on it can get a little overwhelming due to the sheer amount you get and I ended up scraping half of it off. Due to the way they are made to maintain the size and texture, they do have an eggier taste than normal pancakes. I personally enjoy it, but just fair warning if you are particularly sensitive to the taste of eggs. But, they do advertise it as a souffle pancake, so the egg taste is not surprising! This place is always busy and everything is made fresh. It is not fast food! Be prepared for around a 20-minute wait. There is an anime store to browse in the front, but that would be a little hard to do while waiting for your food because securing a seat is a bit of a rat race if you are alone. If you come in a group, have somebody secure a seat first.
