    Black milk Bubble Tea
    Victoria E.

I decided to pop by to pick up dinner on my way home. I tried entering from the back but it's closed, likely because they closed the dining area. It's just a takeout place it seems. Upon entering, the menus are laid out for you to go over at the counter. Unfortunately the prices are not on the menu and the prices I saw on their online menu are not updated. There's a 5% discount if you pay with cash. I ordered and was told the food would be ready in 15-20 minutes, but I think it was done a lot sooner. The sauces and utensils are on the side beside the counter. I ordered the Szechuan Beef, combination fried rice and black boba milk tea. The food was good but ordinary, like any other Chinese spot. The Szechuan beef dish came with more onion, carrots and green pepper than it did the actual meat; also, it wasn't spicy at all. There's a chili pepper next to it on the menu to indicate that there's some spiciness there but it's ok, I'll just let them know to make it spicier next time. As a boba fanatic, I ordered the boba because any time I see it somewhere, I have to get it. The tea they used tasted like authentic Chinese tea so it was pretty good! Boba texture was also good, but the boba side was small so it definitely could've been a choking hazard. Overall the tea was good but a bit too sweet for my liking.

Ordered a large of beef & broccoli, paid 15 bucks for this small container (looks like a lunch special), and it was not even full. There is more broccoli than beef, taste just okay, price is not justified with portion size.

Loved their chicken fried rice. It was perfectly hot without burning your mouth and tasted so good. It wasn't salty or bland. The honeydew bubble tea I got was a bit too sweet, and when I finished drinking the tea, there was a residual substance at the bottom all over the pearls. I think it's the powder mixed together with the tea, but in a more solid form. It was a bit phlegm-y in texture. Sorry for the graphics. It was not a pleasant texture when I consumed a part of it. The pearls were ok. Slightly firmer than I'd like but it's consumable. This cafe is located across the Japanese restaurant.

UGHHHH Please update me when they fix their spring rolls. They are wrapped in something similar to wonton wrapper consistency so when it's fried, it's all raw in the center. It's so dry, eating raw dough-like. The most definite worst spring rolls I've had!!! I'm strongly hoping that this isn't how they are made regularly, and I'd love to try them again if it's spring roll wrapper instead of thick dough stuff. BLEH. The family came here over a weekend for lunch, as "lunch special" caught our attention. They had some good choices, and each lunch special comes with a dish, a rice - regular or fried, and a spring roll. We got the sweet n sour chicken with fried rice, and beef broccoli with fried rice, and some noodles. Each comes with a spring roll. The sweet n sour chicken was also the worst sweet n sour chicken I've had. I'm guessing the sweet n sour chicken around this area is pretty much breaded chicken, similar to nuggets, but thicker breading, with the sauce on the side. The pieces of chicken were practically all dough.. at least my half was. UGH. The fried rice was actually decent, so I finished that. The beef broccoli wasn't too bad, but the noodles had no flavor. I'm still quite bummed out about those spring rolls though... *sigh*

Think overall, the restaurant probably sat around 50 people. I was recently reminded of the spot from an Instagram reel, and realized that I have been here a couple years ago. The noodles themselves are made from scratch and you can actually depending on why you should sometimes see them tossing stretching and throwing the noodles, which is always fun. I ordered the Lanzhou noodles which was good and creamy/gravy like. It is not for everyone which are waitress warned us about, but it is their traditional style. I didn't think it was that bad but the veggies were definitely a lot softer, and it was interesting to try. I next time probably follow the recommendation of the waitress and go with the oil spill bowl or soup. Some of these noodles come with already pre-set type of noodle like the Lanzhou but some of these suits you can choose the noodle that goes in like the beef noodle soup. You can choose a wide noodle or a dinner noodle or a regular type or extra wide. My friend ordered the oil spill one and that one was definitely a bit more flavorful than mine. Definitely trust your waitress she knows what is typically good. Another friend tried the spicy lamb sandwich, which was quite similar to Xian famous foods. Spicy in those flavor and a little kick. As for our greens, we ordered a side of cucumbers that were smashed in flavored a little bit, I think it could've used a little more salt or maybe take out a little bit more of the moisture before seasoning so that the cucumbers can take on more of the flavor. Overall, great place to go; was a little sad though we didn't have any piano performances, but it definitely was starting to get a little bit more crowded and lively around seven on a Sunday

Happy to see his nood soup still killing it and winning awards. Order the #1. Add some chili oil. Try a side or two. That's all you need. I personally like noodles, my kid loves belt style, my wide loves knife cut. They do it all and don't miss on flavor.

I was meeting some Deadheads at BT's for music on Wednesday next door…read more A fabulous perk to going to BT's is-- The Very nice Ukrainian restaurant next door. They close about 8:00pm. A bit pricy on the entrees, but it cost about the same as any food at BT's would have cost me. I had a 'cup' of Beef broth Borscht [heated temperature was hot]. Even though I am Jewish & 63 I had never had borscht before It was truly amazing tasting! The cost was $9 [$11 tip included] for my dinner instead of the easily spent $25 nowadays. Granted, for dessert I did want to order the the good looking well reviewed dessert of cherry pocket dumplings called 'Cherry Varenyky' [$17.50 with SIX 100% reviews] which would have cost me about another $22.00] but because of my own $$ woes I ruefully resisted spending more $$, so that I did not end up spending about $34.65 instead of $11. FOMO!! (Not to be weird or gross) I was experiencing some of my own seasonal allergic chest congestion & that Borscht was the most wonderful thing I could have ate & it instantly made me feel better. I would definitely get that delivered through Uber Eats, & I dislike using Uber Eats. That cup serving size was the size of 4 cups of any other restaurant in a nice pottery big bowl. HUGE! I wonder how large a bowl size is as the Waitress said it can serve 1.5 to 2 people.?‍ It was a Wonderful time spent by myself in a clean, Quaint & lovely ambiance eating a YUMMY bowl of Borscht from the homeland. I will return!

History of Present Indulgence:…read more Couple presents with friend for brunch outside of DC. Ukrainian food is not commonly found in DC area unlike NYC where we all lived before. That alone reeled us in. Physical Exam: Food - The Borscht was delicious and savory -- a classic, strong start. The Varenyky (pierogi's Ukrainian cousin) comes in four options and we opted for potato and short rib, and both were amazing. Also generously filled. With Eastern European food, I've always got a soft spot for a stuffed cabbage dishes, and the Meat Holubtsi did not disappoint. Next, the Deruny presented crispy and potatoey -- very similar dish to latkes. And because it was brunch, we got into the crepes: the Nalysnyky with chicken, onion, and mushroom was super good. Across the board, everything came back well within delicious limits. Ambiance - We were seated outdoors on a gorgeous day and there was nice sunshine and a light breeze. Honestly it was so beautiful. Service - Kind and attentive the whole way through. Appropriate bedside manner. Assessment: A thoroughly enjoyable Ukrainian brunch, and a great find given how rarely this cuisine turns up around here. (Since then I found out there's one in DC itself!) Every dish we ordered delivered on its promised, the service was lovely, and setting was nice. No adverse findings. Plan: - Go. Highly recommend. - Order a spread and share to get the most of the variety. - Follow up to evaluate dessert, such as Honey Cake.
