Took my mom to Luby's for lunch. She wanted liver and onions. It was a busy time but the line moved quickly. I had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, fried okra, and bread pudding. The service and food have increasingly depleted significantly at this location. It started off with an older lady at the salad bar being rude when I asked her if I could get some jello for my children. She rudely replied with an attitude"No, we don't have any." I told her, "Ok, thank you." She ignored my companion standing there waiting to be helped. I went back and asked her for help. Instead she walked away when I asked her for help. (It was clearly her area because once we were helped by someone else and moved on she returned to the station.) A gentleman with a red shirt that was happening to pass by, which he also looked like a manager, heard and saw the interaction instead of getting her to help or asking her to help us let her walk away to the back ignoring me, and instead went to another are to get a Hispanic lady to help me. I don't understand why they allow for employees to be this way. As she continued to serve the rest of my party she was very unpleasant. The food itself has not been good the last few times I have gone. Both the fish and chicken are dry and cold. The restrooms and the rest of the floor is left dirty. As we sat down to eat, I noticed the TVs weren't turned on and several tables left dirty. Who looked to be the busboy was sitting down with his phone turned up VERY loudly and inconsiderate or the customers. In front of him was a gentleman who looked like he was trying to work. I also noticed another employee sitting down with his shoes off and on top of the opposite seat taking a break. I used to enjoy going with my family at least once a week will to eat here. This location does not serve quality food like I have been eating at other Lubys. Food was cold, some dishes were too salty. Servers were in a "hurry up" mode although there were only a few people in line. Our waitress was nice and accommodating. My husband said the men's bathroom was not clean. It was before 11:30 am! Placed a To go order. Decided to wait in dining room. Dining area is filthy and atrocious! Chairs are super sticky and tables and sides of booths and floors are unbelievably filthy! Dining area filthy when they just opened up. I hate to see businesses decline but this is a big reason why. Makes me wonder what the kitchen is like if the dining room is that filthy. I picked luby's today cause I needed freshness not anything preserved or fried but I didn't want hospital food and that's what I got. But that wasn't the disappointing part it was the set up of this location. They have a Togo parking and entrance but it is sealed off so once I found the entrance it was a line. I didn't need to stand in the cafeteria line because I had called in the order but unfortunately that was the only place for me to pick up and pay. There were no trash cans and my feet kept sticking to the dirty carpet. On top of that I ordered the healthiest thing on the menu tilapia and it was the most expensive thing at $11 for lunch. Although it is going under some remodeling, food is still really good. I had the roasted half chicken and it tasted really good. The mashed potatoes were nice and creamy and the green beans were just right. Overall, a good visit. read more

Horrible! Poor customer service! I went yesterday, may 18, and I'm still thinking about how bad my experience was. I ordered a family pack. None of the servers knew the procedure to order a family pack. Finally the manager sent me to the cashier to place my order. The cashier asked for my order twice, because she was busy playing at the register with other workers. After placing my order, I stood by the door, expecting to wait to 20-30 minutes. I watched the manager place a family pack order on a table. He never said a word to me, the cashier then turned and said while you're posted up on the wall, your order is ready. I looked over, the order was partially bagged. I walked over and noticed it wasn't my order. The manager approached and said my order was being prepared and it would be a little longer. I said well you and your cashier are not on the same page, she said this was my order. The cashier then turned and said my bad. The manager then began to tell her this was the order of a lady who complained the day prior. After finally getting my order, it was incomplete. I had to go back inside, with my receipt in hand and ask for my missing item. No apology, no nothing! The entire staff asked as if I was wrong. I have fond memories of hanging out at Luby's with family and friends. So decided to stop in with my kids. Admittedly we are a large family but the rolled eyes behind the counter and sighs while we decided what sides to get and tried to understand the menu options were unnecessary. The actual waitresses were nice enough but the rushed, exasperated feel coming thorough the line is enough to ensure we are not back. We will go places that realize 2 things. 1) we are a big ticket and that should allow some extra grace 2) appreciate the extra time needed when kids are present. read more

The customer service was terrible from the younger employees. The older employees spoke and said enjoy your meal, they where pleasant. For some reason our young people have attitudes while serving the public. Hello! its your job that you chose to work and cost nothing to be pleasant. Some things are unacceptable when it comes to serving the public. Management should take action to the horrible service a older women and myself received on April 7th at 7.53 pm. My receipt says Andrew was the cashier but it was a young lady. Pull your cameras if you have them and see your line at that time. The majority of your team was not providing acceptable customer service and they also displayed un acceptable demeanor. If Luby's located in Desoto at 801 N Beckley tolerate employees that make them look bad while serving our community then they do not deserve my money or presence. Management you need to handle this. The community has had enough of paying for a service that is less than acceptable. My husband and I always see parking a lot full of cars on the weekend. so naturally we were curious about this place. The advertisement says $4.99 for all you can eat breakfast Saturday and Sunday. We decided to give it a shot one Saturday. It is cafeteria style. You get choices of different types of scrambled eggs (Meat or Veggies). Pancakes, Waffles, French toast. Potatoes, Toast, Bacon, Sausage, Sausage patties. It was actually not bad for the price. My husband liked their french toast. My only wish is that they'll do an omelet bar. Who wants bland, tepid food? Not me! Usually Luby's is my old lady standby when I want cafeteria food (don't ask), but this location is definitely a no go. Every item I received was barely warm and for some reason had not a lick of seasoning to be found. I love the Luby's in Desoto because every time my husband and I go they are kind and the food is very good and fresh. I suffer with hypertension and love the fact that they do NOT put a whole lot of salt in their food. That is one of the main reasons I love this restaurant. If you need more seasoning you can do it yourself. Everyone can't eat a lot of seasoning and I'm one of those persons. Keep up the good work! :) read more

I've eaten Lubys since I was a kid, with it being almost somewhat of a tradition. However, over the years I dont know where cooking with love went but it left this basic tasting food. As previously stated the workers are very slow and definitely could use some training on portioning due to the price of the menu. Average full plate is between $13- $15. Im just saying thats a little steep for homecooked "cafeteria style" food. Sweet Georgia Brown is right up the street for the same price and they give out twice the meat 3x the sides plus an additional 3rd side and 2 or 3 pieces of hot water cornbread that puts lubys to shame. Yes the environment at Lubys is much more pleasant (to some) but at the end of the day I want good food. Maybe its this location but I feel like Im always taking a gamble here. Today, the same little boy who always has an attitude on the salad bar was there and when I asked for Ranch he gave me some Heinz Lite Ranch to go so I looked at him like he was stupid and asked the manager to get me some real Ranch. None was made but he was too lazy to make some so the manager threw together some. Last time at 6:30 in the afternoon he didnt have eggs, ham, or croutons on the salad bar. Then I get to the meat and I order a new Oven Fried Chicken Parmesan with Alfredo. Now the chicken sits on top of the Alfredo but she chooses to put the chicken in my box and then proceeds to smother it with the Alfredo so clearly it gonna make Fried chicken soggy. (Common Sense) I also ordered Turkey and Dressing but she didn't even know how to properly slice the Turkey. I got 1 full slice , 2 halves, and 1 extra thin slice. I immediately told her to cancel that and give me something else which lead to some grilled chicken breast. BUT the only thing that was good was my salad, but not really because the Ranch I mentioned earlier ended up being just some juicy mayonnaise and buttermilk which I brought back and ended up having to go buy my own Ranch next door at Kroger. All the food has no flavor. It seems to be exceptionally bland just like most of the workers. I think I'll just stick to salads from now on with Lubys because the food is constantly starting to be a disappointment. Crunchy cabbage and bland Mac n Cheese... 2 thumbs down. P.S. never try that oven fried Chicken Parmesan, it was literally the most disgusting thing Ive ever purchased at a restaurant. The combination taste of Basil and Rosemary as seasonings was overwhelming and down right disgusting. And the Alfredo... While the food matches the normal Luby's quality, they seem to run out a lot and the service is so slow that your food gets cold by the time you pay. One lady has braids that hang down over her face and she keeps rubbing her cheeks because I guess it makes her itch. She also can't seem to be bothered to move at a decent pace. Also, the to-go section is always closed. So people with to-go orders just cut in line and make the wait even longer. Such a shame. read more
