It's excellent Lepri Jiujitsu, of course he is the greatest on the planet, they are very strict about which techniques are allowed (as it should be). This is a *business*, and it is SPORT jiujitsu (not self-defense), anyone who does not respect the rules or cause discomfort will be trespassed from the gym and potentially arrested. This gym also works very closely with local ICE and PD to help detain and deport those who are here illegally. Quit this gym recently after witnessing Lucas call the police on a visiting student who was training for ADCC trials, use a heel hook. Everyone in the room was embarrassed for Lucas. As witnesses to this we had to share what happened. For reference, Lucas himself quit competing when IBJJF legalized heelhooks in competition. He keeps clips of his world matches on the TV in the gym on an endless loop. Mentally he is still stuck in 2019. If you are a serious competitor or train for Self-Defense, I would not under any circumstances visit this gym. Today it is basically a daycare for coddled, wealthy Charlotte residents. Also, Lucas didn't win IBJJF worlds 9 times. He won it 6 times, UAEBJJF doesnt count. I knew Lucas for many years, he seems very nice when you first meet him, but deep down all he cares about is one thing: Money. read more

I have been training BJJ since 2008. I have never seen the level of instruction that I have received at the Lepri academy. Moves are broken down to the smallest detail. This place is amazing. Lucas is one of the most humble and friendly World Champions you will have the pleasure of meeting. The atmosphere is welcoming and anyone is encouraged to come. I have a 10 year background in Muay Thai. I found this gem of a gym as I searched for a new martial arts focus. Lucas teaches many of the classes himself, including fundamentals. His cousin Fred Silva, another amazing black black belt, teaches often if Lucas is not in the facility. At the time of writing the review, I have attended an average of four classes a week for six months. This is a great way to challenge yourself physically and mentally. I encourage everyone reading these reviews to disregard the review from Marcus W. His review is highly inaccurate of the reality of this gym's atmosphere. While the focus is often toward sport BJJ, the techniques taught in the fundamentals course always begin with a defensive technique. This gym is focused on sport BJJ. This is somewhat of a given since Lucas is the IBJJF Lightweight World Champion and Fred is a high level IBJJF competitor (bronze at 2018 IBJJF No-Gi Worlds). Please do not mistake sport BJJ as inapplicable in the real world. It is a fantastic way to learn how to protect yourself and while having fun. I started attending class at the school about a month ago and all I can say is WOW! The professors are incredibly knowledgeable, they focus on the details of every move and explain the why behind the technique. Not only have I lost about 20lbs, but I have found my new passion. The studio is always clean, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the professors are very welcoming. I was in awe the first time I met Lucas, being an 8x world champion Black Belt, but he simply walked up to me, introduced himself and said "welcome to the family". That is truly what is so amazing about this school is that it is a family. I want to give a shout out to Freddy (black belt instructor) who has been amazing in helping me, and Kenny a student (purple belt) who has gone above and beyond to help elevate my game. One of the best jiu jitsu gyms I have ever been to in the country. The facility is very clean, locker rooms are nice and the atmosphere is fantastic. The students are very welcoming and skill levels range from people just wanting to train to top of the food chain world class guys. The instruction from all the teachers Lucas, Fred etc is awesome. Training with someone of Lucas caliber is an absolute experience and something you really can't do in any other sports. My elementary school child eagerly looks forward to class at Lucas Lepri Brazilian Jiu Jitzu. The office staff and coaches are all incredibly professional and friendly. They are top-notch competitors in the field, and still so calm and patient when relating to young children in class. The coaches are natural teachers who appear to thoroughly enjoy sharing their love and passion for Jiu Jitzu with the next generation of children.
