I am going to try to keep this review short. It was such an honor to get an invitation to visit and have a private tour of this truly special & unique spot. Words can not describe what an honor it was to see all of the movie vignettes, props, storyboards, & memorabilia when we visited in October!! If you are a fan of movies, this studio has it all!! I myself am a huge fan of Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), and all things Lucas so this was a VERY special experiencefor me. If you have an affinity for movies, Star Wars in particular, you will love this place. We had 3 hours to explore in a private tour and then we had a great lunch!! If you can chose your guide, I would like to recommend Anthony Ramos. For every sci-fi nerd/Star Wars nerd out there, this is a quick, free stop in the Presidio of San Francisco. To get in, you have to go through a guard gate. Really friendly security guard there. Just tell him that you want to see the fountain and they will direct you where to park, and to walk over. You can then take a picture with the Yoda fountain, which is absolutely awesome. The statue area, is dog friendly Based on the previous reviews, pre pandemic, people were allowed to go into the building and see more Lucasfilms memorabilia, however it was apparently closed after the pandemic and it was a little unclear based on reviews if it had opened. Good news, you don't have to wonder, it's open again so you can stay in the building lobby and take pictures with a replica statue of R2D2, Vader, and check out more memorabilia. No video, no dogs inside, and you cannot go anywhere else in the building as there are offices there. Be sure to check it out! Long ago in a theater far, far away I first saw what I insist is George Lucas's greatest film. No, not Star Wars. I'm talking about 1973's American Graffiti. Tonight I saw the 50th Anniversary screening of the film. In the last 50 years I've seen this movie so many times I've lost count. I couldn't tell you the exact number, but I'm sure I've seen this movie theatrically over 30 times. It's by far my favorite George Lucas film. Maybe you are partial to his Star Wars movies. I can dig that. But did you know it was the success of American Graffiti that made Star Wars possible? According to Lucasfilm's press release for the 50th Anniversary screening: "It was after an industry screening of American Graffiti that 20th Century Fox executive Alan Ladd, Jr. decided that he would offer to support Lucas on whichever project he next had in mind. Thus, the possibility of making Star Wars became a reality." George Lucas used the money he made off of American Graffiti to bankroll Industrial Light and Magic, the division of Lucasfilms responsible for the breakthrough special effects in Star Wars. American Graffiti not only boasts an incredibly able director, it also musters a phenomenal ensemble of actors. Ron Howard, one of the four main characters, was well known, of course, from his work on The Andy Griffith Show. But American Graffiti was the break out movie for several then-unknown actors that went on to become household names, like Harrison Ford, Richard Dreyfus, Suzanne Somers, Mackenzie Phillips and Cindy Williams. The movie also featured Paul LeMat, Charles Martin Smith, Candy Clark, and Wolfman Jack, playing a DJ (of all things, LOL). Famous San Francisco radio personalities Scott Beach and Terry McGovern also have small parts in the film. (Love me some Terry McGovern, best morning DJ ever!) The print I saw was flawless, the whole film was a veritable feast for the eyes. And what a great job they did on the new sound mix! The sound was exquisite. The American Graffiti soundtrack is my favorite movie soundtrack of all time. It's not just the songs, it's how well the songs are matched to each scene. I've never seen a movie where music is used more effectively to add nuance to a scene or to advance the story. I probably wouldn't have written this review but for the fantastic gift Lucasfilm provided to those that sat through the movie's closing credits. At the conclusion of the credits, several clips of the main actors rehearsing for the film were screened. Oh my god, it was so wonderful to see those clips! First they showed Richard Dreyfus, Paul LeMat, Ron Howard and another actor improvising, riffing on different elements from the script. It was super cool watching them become their characters. In the second set of clips we got to see Laurie (Cindy Williams) and Steve (Ron Howard) in multiple takes rehearse their highly emotional scene from the Freshman Sock Hop. When the lights came up in the theater I saw that I was one of only two people that stuck around through the credits to see these extra clips. Everyone else at the screening had bailed during the closing credits. It's a crying shame, they have no idea what a great thing they missed out on. I just wanted to write this review to say Thank You to George Lucas and Lucasfilm. Thank you for this movie that I have enjoyed so much over the last 50 years. And thank you so much for this special 50th Anniversary screening of the film. And above all else, thanks for those rehearsal clips. WOW! I was super lucky to get to attend a tour of Lucasfilm/ILM last Friday. I went with a large group for work, and our tour guides, Julie and another woman whose name I'm unfortunately blanking on, were wonderful! They were so warm and welcoming to the group of students we were with and endlessly patient and enthusiastic about the many questions and comments our students had (sometimes all at once)! Seeing artifacts from classic films and TV shows such as Star Wars, ET, Back to the Future 2, Ghost Busters, The Mandalorian, and Jurassic Park was incredible. Each item and picture had a story behind them, and our guides were very knowledgeable. My favorite part was the wall of Funko Pops related to their films and TV shows. The tour was a hit with students and staff and was something I would do again in a heartbeat. If you're lucky enough to get a chance to do a tour here, do it! read more

If you are a Star Wars fan, this is one of the mecca that'll make you geek out. When I would trek on my urban hikes, the Presidio is on my rotation and there are plenty of gems to explore and discover. So when we had a manager's scavenger hunt as our outing a couple of years ago, I had an unfair advantage. Might as well call it home court advantage. Lucasfilm headquarters, yes The Lucasfilm, is located inside one of the many campuses in the Presidio. The building is just a few yards from the Lombard St. entrance. The Yoda Fountain is outside the building and visitors and fans are allowed inside. (Currently closed to the public due to Covid) However, you are only allowed in the lobby, but this will more than satisfy the most ardent fans. There are a couple of large showcase cabinets filled with film and movie awards as well as numerous Star Wars figurines, collectibles and movie props to gawk at. They even have life-size statues of Darth Vader, R2-D2 and K-2SO when I visited. I think they have several other Star Wars characters for display on rotation. Even if you're a casual fan, you could spend a pretty good amount of time in here just by observing the cool things on display. They're not all Star Wars related as they have some other neat stuff on display from other movies. It is a working office so please just be respectful and try to remain quiet. You know, just like visiting your local library. You can browse as long as you want, but keep your volume down. Good rule of thumb is to also keep your hands to yourself, especially nowadays. Lucasfilm headquarters in Presidio is the official home of the brains behind the epic movie, Star Wars. Unlike other movie studios which are off limits to the public, Lucasfilm actually lets visitors to visit during office hours. However, you'll only be let in the lobby but fret not, because there's a lot to see. Upon entrance, you'll be greeted by R2D2 and behind it is a statue of Willis O' Brian playing with Kong. On the left side of the lobby are life sized Stormtrooper and Darth Vader in between bookcases full of books, awards, and memorabilia. Lots of other memorabilia on tables around the lobby. There are plenty of couches to sit on if you want to peruse and read one of the books from the shelves. Photography is allowed but you must remember though that this is an actual office so silence must be maintained at all times. read more

As a young Jedi lad I spent my allowance for either comics or the latest Star Wars action figures. Just about everything Star Wars grabbed my attention, but only one captured my heart... her name was Princess Leia of Alderaan. My word how I loved and still love her, what she stood for, and despite the odds how we can overcome anything in life... if we only believe... "Somebody has to save our skins. Into the garbage chute, flyboy!" - Princess Leia By now, we all know what happened to Carrie Fisher who was the RL lady behind Princess Leia, so I won't repeat the sadness I felt, and the millions just like me, who were brought to tears when she left us. It was honestly like a real Princess leaving much too soon. Yet, it also reminded many, including myself, about being inspired again and overcoming the odds. It didn't matter if I was seven years old or one-hundred seven years old. "We" are the rebellion fighting the injustices of the world! "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid." - Han Solo I have watched Star Wars, the Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi trilogy dozens of times. Of course, I'm OG so know this is the backbone of all the other movies that followed. IMHO maybe the only mistakes was casting Billie Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, but hey Billie was suave back in the day;) And ok, what's the deal with Jar Jar Binks *ugh*. Yet, that's about it! I love C3PO, R2D2, Chewy, Han, Luke, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and even on the dark side with Darth, Greedo, Boba Fett... then you add the Wampa & Ewoks and you have a full menu! Of course, for me it was all about Princess Leia. "Use the Force, Luke." - Obi-Wan Kenobi Lastly, I still have all my action figures and even original X-34 Landspeeder! Hey, I no longer play with them, silly *winks*, but every May 4th I'll take a "May the 4th Be with You" photo for social media. I have such good memories of Star Wars, and in a way, I still believe in The Force, my young Padawan. Princess Leia definitely inspired me to be a better person in RL and she is missed. Yet, like many that I love that have left me much too soon, I find comfort knowing the Princess will forever live in my heart... Thank you for all the memories... Mecca for fans like me -- bummed that we came on a weekend when the "house" was closed. Settled for browsing through the windows and strolling the immaculate grounds and enjoying the vistas. Snagged me a shot of R2D2 -- making the memory that much more real -- with some props from King Kong in the background. To my mind -- George Lucas is as classy at his office as he is in celluloid. We had no idea that we were at LucasFilm. We only wanted to see the Yoda Fountain... We found the fountain by following directions on the GPS. We drove slowly through the Presidio of San Francisco and came upon a friendly and helpful security guard. When he found out that we were there for the Yoda Fountain, he pointed out the building, gave us free parking, and encouraged us to go inside the building. .. Wow! Life sized characters from Star Wars were in the lobby! We snapped away! There were awards and books on the shelves as well as other memorabilia. It was so cool! For a Star Wars fan, this is a must-stop location in San Francisco. The Presidio campus is where a lot of the work is done. This is long overdue but I came here back in January for a 2.5 hour tour and let me just say--- I wish my tour was longer, I couldn't get enough of every crafted detail and collection that would probably never be seen outside of Lucasfilm. It was also so exciting to be inside the George Lucas theater (couldn't take a picture inside) and as a huge Star Wars fan, it was so emotional and overwhelming when I saw props which included the actual Yoda puppet and Han Solo in carbonite that were used in the Star Wars films. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity I had (thanks to a friend that works in Lucasfilm) and wish I can do this again. read more

Beautiful campus. I'm not a huge Star Wars geek like a lot of people I know but this place is definitely worth checking out even if you're just walking through the neighborhood. Don't forget to say hello to Yoda at the fountain. It's picturesque and there are even some prime spots for photos. Skip some of the usual landmarks and take photos here instead. Who needs a cliche image for their special occasion? Not me. The only thing that is sort of a bummer is that if you're looking for public transit out here, forget about it. I think there's one bus that runs through this 'hood. You're better off driving. It doesn't feel like San Francisco over here. Also, there is a Starbucks and a lovely restaurant called Dixie. I didn't see much around unless you walk a little closer to the Marina or Russian Hill. read more

I was visiting from LA. I knew lucasfilm was near the SF area so I made a trip down there. After begging and pleading I was able to at least venture into the front lobby and check out all the great movie memorabilia. Light sabers, life size vader, life size boba, great books I've never seen before, other scaled models. I wish I would have been granted a tour but I understand why they wouldn't let me, I felt like a sad 8 year old when he gets socks for christmas instead of the new SNES game he wanted. I would do anything to get past that front office, until then I might just watch fan boys for some inspiration. Family day is on Fridays and we're lucky enough to have a family member who works at LucasArts so that they could give us a small tour. There is a THX theater of course to show us clips of some of movies that they have done; they're involved in more than Star Wars y'know. Props, movie posters, and background art are throughout the place; it's amazing how much they're responsible for when you see it. The campus has terrific vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Palace of Fine Arts that are probably taken for granted if you work there but are spectacular for a visitor like myself. The cafeteria was spacious and offers some pretty good eats for a cafeteria. It's a nice environment to work at that's for sure... read more

House of Lucas, LucasFilm is a great place to visit. Opened during the weekdays with a very friendly staff. Lots of items to view on their bookcase, mostly all dedicated to Star Wars memorabilia. Geeking out! Closest to being in the studio itself. There is a statue of the great Master Yoda outside. Inside the lobby, you are free to visit and take in the Star Wars memorabilia. This place is awesome. The staff are so friendly and the walls are littered with history. Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, and movie posters for every major film of the last 75 years. The gift shop sells exclusive crew gear that you can't find outside of the guarded entrance to the facility so make sure to pick something up. read more
