Came here on a Friday night for dinner on Halloween, it was 4 of us and we didn't have a reservation but they seated us immideately. All the staff were dressed up for halloween which was ncie to see! We got their veggie nachos which were pretty good and a good portion size as well. They also had a 4 taco deal where you can choose any 4 tacos for $21 which I thought was pretty good. I finally got to try Lucha Libre. I met up with B after work and we came here for dinner. I got four tacos to try: 1) Taco de Carnitas 2) Taco de Chilorio 3) Taco Suadero 4) Taco Carne Asada B also got four tacos. He has been here before and he was the one that recommended this place. The restaurant is somewhat small. The place were pretty cool looking with bright colors. The tacos were not like super big and they were not lined with two tortillas. However, they were super tasty. The service here was good. Note that this place has pretty good happy hour deal. 4 tacos for $16. I really like the Carne Asada. I will definitely be back. read more

I had my go-to Mexican place, but this joint just topped it....and that's hard to do with me. I love my Burritos and have them quite frequently. I'm a huge fan of Mexican food in general, and to have excellent food plus excellent service plus adorable contemporary chic Mexican atmosphere...now that's where this place comes in. It's all that. The Baked Fish Burrito was wonderful. I had it to go. When I got home, I realized how much care and attentional to detail they put in not only the packaging, but also the making of the burrito (see pic.) It was fresh, tasty and just done First Class. You take pride in your business. You give the reverence to Mexican food it deserves. You value and appreciate your guests. That's not only amazing, but rare these days. I wanted so much to love this place because of the interaction with the staff (to go order) and also the funky Lucha Libre decor and neon. Order of six tacos (two each of carnitas, pescado and carne asada), I thought, took too much time to finally receive. All the meat was on the dry side, and so were the tortillas. The salsas provided were also quite watery. read more

I loved everything here. The decor is simple and casual but cozy and comfortable. Service is great and always with a smile. Bartender has good skills which is reflected in all the cocktails n drinks prepared by him. Food is too good to resist especially the deserts. I have had almost all the stuff on menu but from everything i would rate flan the highest marks. Beautiful presentation with an amazing taste. Granddaughter and I both adore the carnitas tacos at Lucha Libre on Nelson Street at Granville. Absolutely the best (and biggest) we've ever had in several Vancouver taco joints. We swooned as we ate them. There is a minimum order of 3 tacos which precludes our trying anything else on the menu because the 3 tacos fill us up. I'd love to try other things, such as tamales, but absolutely gotta have the carnitas if I'm at Lucha Libra (which means Free Wrestling, if anyone is asking). We would also love to try the flan and churros but, at $10.50 each, they are out of our price range. Desserts have gone to outrageous prices in Vancouver restaurants, and we rarely see one under $10, which just means we don't try them, unfortunately. There is an extensive menu of what are probably fabulous Mexican delights so you should be able to find something you like. It's all rather pricey (at least it is for me, a pensioner), so some things we just can't try. Those carnitas tacos are EVERYTHING, though, so we go for those. Lucha Libre is brightly decorated on a Mexican wrestling theme, with TVs high up in the corners showing what appeared to be a black and white Mexican wrestling-themed film or soap opera. Sound was off, but too-loud music was playing. Once again, as usual, music too loud for casual conversation across the table. Why??? If the staff likes it loud, please play it in the kitchen and let the punters out front enjoy a quiet meal and conversation. Server was excellent. Chatted with us, answered any questions we had, and was very interested in how we enjoyed the food and what we liked. We felt welcome and appreciated. Mexican soft drinks and what looked like a well-equipped bar. I don't know why the place wasn't packed out. Unfortunately it's just off Granville on Nelson, so not exactly a spot you'd pop into as you walked up busy Granville. I think you'd have to be looking for it, so go ahead and look for it because those tacos are so worth it. If you're trying to save money, go after 3 for Happy Hour when the tacos are $3.50 instead of $4.25. But go any time and enjoy some absolutely delicious Mexican food in a bright and welcoming atmosphere with friendly, knowledgeable service. 5/5 read more

A popping spot in downtown Vancouver. They've tasty margaritas -- we tried their pineapple, guava, and strawberry margarita. Personally I'd go with the classic margarita. Guava, and pineapple margaritas were pretty good. Pineapple was blended with a rim of spice, tasted really good. Guava had a very nice flavor. We also got their chips, guacamole, and pico de gallo starter. There was 8oz of guac, 8oz pico and you can get extra chips to go with All in all the place was really nice. Though I'd go only for their happy hour, pretty pricey otherwise. read more

Came for the bottomless mimosas and were told AFTER ordered them that we also had to order food. The waitress told us we could all share something but then went back on that and told us that everyone had to order a main item from the menu (not something simple like chips and guacamole). After sitting for 30 minutes with only one round of mimosas served to us, we asked for a second round and did not receive it so we cancelled our order of the bottomless. Service was absolutely horrible, the staff behind the bar were pointing at us and snickering. The bottomless mimosas are an outright scam. read more

Food was so dry and just bad. Waiter was nice, but with the prices there's no reason for the steak to taste like roast beef and the tortillas to be so incredibly hard/tough. My boyfriend got tacos, the tortillas there looked and felt like they'd never been cooked. The meat was cold and so dry. Came here on a whim, settling an indecisive lunch. Lucha Libre is critically under rated, especially when you consider the trash places nearby that have higher ratings. The concept here is kinda goofy -- luchadores matching up against one another in the form of starters, entrees and tacos. Food 5/5 -- We started with the deep fried tortilla starter, which we ordered with the pepper filling. It was really good, and served in an inception taco style (soft shell on the outside, fried shell on the inside). The pepper filling was super flavorful, and even the gf enjoyed it despite being a carnivore -- while we're on that, they have a lot of filling choices, including FOUR vegetarian options. For mains I got the Mexican baguette sandwich and babe got three tacos of different flavors. She loves her tacos, exclaiming that they were flavorful and moist. My sandwich was great. I got the chickpea filling, which complimented the avocado and pico de gallo that were already on the sandwich (there's always a choice of filling for most of the dishes.) Also, did I mention they have quite a large selection of Mexican beers? I tried Pacifico here for the first time, and really enjoyed it! Atmosphere 5/5 -- Pretty nice interior and concept. It's a goofy luchadore themed place, and the branding matches perfectly. The menus are all themed as one dish versus another, and they are all cleverly named dishes, such as the Rey Burrito Mysterio (sorry if I'm butchering that). The decor and presentation of dishes also complement one another seamlessly -- it's Mexican through and through, with bright colors, and lighting. Lots of wood and, and *tasteful* plastic decor. Service 5/5 -- The server was a bit green, but very attentive and professional. He offered to explain the menu, made suggestions and kept a close eye on table maintenance -- even when they were sold out of the gordita bread, he was quick to check in with replacement options. Cleanliness 5/5 -- This one is an easy 5. The place was totally clean and spotless. Overall 5/5 -- Wasn't expecting much, and expectations were totally blown out of the water. First off, the staff are really nice and the atmosphere is fine, if a little goofy. But man the food and margaritas were extremely underwhelming, especially for the price. We had the enchiladas carnitas with salsa verde, and mango margaritas. Everything was just bland and a little dry. The salsa was mild which we expected but it was a bit under seasoned and lacked the brightness you want in a usual verde salsa. Same with the carnitas, just dry and underseasoned both in salt and spice. Maybe it's our fault for ordering the mango margaritas but it was just watery, no sweetness, no tartness, just felt like a premix blend. Even at happy hour their prices are high for other food/drink in the area, so I just can't recommend them unless you're just desperate for a tequila and everywhere else is full. read more

Our waitress was so kind and attentive and made our experience even better. The restaurant was clean and the aesthetic really captured Mexican culture. At the end of our meal we were given lollipops. Visiting from Toronto, wanted a quick dinner on a weeknight. There was live music. Ordered 3 tacos each (pulled pork, beef, fish). Fish was the best of them all. Meat ones were very dry. Tacos were pretty small. Definitely not impressed. Was upsold with the appetizer of chips & dips (guac & pico de gallo). Generous portion but also generous cost. Came here after traveling all day. Seemed like a cool place to grab a quick bite to eat. Service started a little slow. There were no menus and had to use QR code but no one told us. Then we weren't sure if we ordered at the counter or table side. We were tired and weren't sure this was going to be a good move. However, once we asked the server to come over, everything was quick and the food was delicious! More family came in later and they went there also! Great choice! read more

Lucha libre. The fight for freedom is a seemingly never ending one. Why do the luchadores wear masks? It was once said "the mask makes the warrior". My history of formal Spanish is a short one. A failure of 10th grade Spanish with more detention than Ned's declassified school survival guide and the breakfast club combined. Unaccepted by the institutions, but welcomed by the Mexican people. As I sink my teeth into the first churro I have a flashback: Tijuana, 2007. A border town with no customs or background checks, just an entry point collection of cold and battered metal turnpikes for anyone of any criminal background to seek refuge or a new life. Children selling chiclets and oranges for a handful of pesos. A juggler with no ability to do so and in the midst of all that, a churro stand. Soft, chewy bags of fresh churros for a dollar. My most recent trip to Tijuana showed signs of growth. Because of an expired passport I was allowed to enter for $20. The change was given to me in pesos and was assured by the officer the exchange rate was "about the same". My instructions were to find Javier driving a white van just around the bridge. All of those memories were revived in a millisecond as I bit into the first churro. A flavour my father and I have been searching for ever since. The rib eye tacos are an example of simplistic fare. No need to confuse your pallet with infused this and puréed that. Just high quality ingredients with fresh flavours. read more

Amazing how these people are willing to hurt their reputation and leave unsatisfied clients just to keep a few bucks. We went there with a large party to watch a World Cup match. They charged 18% gratuity and on top of that, each of us left extra tips without realizing we have already been charged for that. When I noticed that, I asked to get the tip back, as we have already tipped generously. They refused to give it back... They must be in real need of those extra dollars. Not only that, but the service was awful. We had to ask several times for our drinks and they got them wrong more than once. read more

Looks like La Cantina closed or was renamed to Lucha Libre. Used to be a regular at La Cantina as they had reasonable prices and specials which made the food good value. Just checked the menu at Lucha Libre -- $15 for burritos, tacos $4.25 each -- wow, that is quite a jump and ripoff. Sadly, will no longer be frequenting this place any longer. read more

Got some tacos on my lunch hour - mushroom Rajas con queso. Ordered pickup. Ordered with cheese, came without -oh well, things happen. Tacos themselves were ok. They only do one Tortilla per taco and they were all soaked literally 2 minutes after pickup, so impossible to eat without a fork. The Rajas tacos were just like a mush inside, everything over cooked together. The mushroom tacos were better, but still impossible to eat, and crazy oily too, there was a pool of oil under the tortillas even. read more
