Best Tasting Tacos. Gotta go back to this restaurant next time I'm in Vancouver Thank You

After watching a show at a nearby venue, my husband and I wandered around the neighbourhood trying to decide where to go for a late lunch. We came across this place and were immediately hooked by the decor and the vibe. I imagine this place was as close to authentic Mexican food as you could get in Vancouver. The place was still hopping at such a late lunch hour, but we were seated quickly. I ordered the Carne Asada. Marinated Rib-Eye, salad, baked potatoes, avacado, rice and tortillas were all delicious and satisfied my hunger cravings, and it was a generous portion to boot! The only part about the dish I didn't appreciate as much, were the beans. They were mushed into a bean paste and I admit I was expected whole beans. Good solid place if you want something veering more closely to authentic.

3.5/5 - Went for lunch and they have great deals for lunch! The portions are large for a good price. I got the enchiladas and it came with tortilla soup (or choice of caesar salad) and complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. Food and service were good. I think the flavours are a bit dialled down compared to other Mexican places I've tried - maybe to suit the North American palate. Everything could use some more spices in my opinion. I liked the mole and rice combination the most.

Big portions, consistent food. Been coming for years, it's the same everytime, in a good way. Drinks got bit pricey, $19 for 2oz seasonal cocktail. Or maybe I'm not used to inflation.

Food is good, but a little expensive. Friendly service and food doesn't take too much to come. Music a little but loud for me, and it's a little hard to hear your friends. It's a good place to go for Mexican food and for great music.

A vibe! Loud music with their matching music videos all around the place. The place is super packed, usually a wait. They have margs with mini coronas upside down if you wanna turn up. Their meals are a bit pricey for some Mexican food (even visiting from California). Their guac was like $20 but it was humongous and delicious. They def didn't give us enough chips though, haha. We didn't visit any place more than once during our visit. But if we did, I would def come here again to try their tacos.

Tacos & Cantina has a good vibe going on and the food is good here. It is more on the expensive side but the portions are big. Since its close to BC stadium it gets quite a crowd during games. Plenty of seating and the star shaped lights add to the ambiance. They have an outside patio which is nice for warm summer days. The staff is friendly and got us this extremely spicy sauce when we asked for something with extra heat. We get this on every visit now. Both the enchiladas (rajas poblanas and chicken tinga) were good. Comes with rice and beans. Got both red and green sauce. Their drinks are delicious and strong. The queso fundido is good to share amongst a large group. It was a lot of for 2 people. Come with quacamole and salsa and 5 tortillas.

This is the second time I've been here, but it has been a few years, and I've got to say this was incredible. The food was absolutely amazing; amongst the most flavourful Mexican food I've had outside of Mexico. My friend and I both had their huge wet burrito and had to take about a third of each of them home. Even the refried beans were better than elsewhere, somehow. My friend had a couple of wonderfully mixed spicy Mezcal margaritas and I was happy to have access to non-alcoholic Heineken. It was a little full when we were there which made for a busy and chatty atmosphere, along with the Latin music, which was a nice ambiance to go with the food. Fantastic service giving us good recommendations and prompt attention.

I had a wonderful experience with my two Fellow diners at the establishment today. The variety of food on the menu is fantastic, and the food is quite authentic. The prices are very reasonable/comparable but what made it even more special was the service. Monse Was our server and she was very friendly courteous and was the first server ever to bring me a birthday surprise When she noticed I was opening up some gifts my guests brought me! That level of attention and service is rare and very appreciated! I had the tacos and my guests pozole, very deliciou!! THX Patron for a good experience!

Wow! Was so impressed with Patron. I've been looking for these types of corn tacos since La Taqueria moved and changed their menu. I had the Beans and Feta and Garlic Mushrooms, delicious! I also had the rice cinnamon drink, Horchata, yum! I can't wait to order again. Great find!

I came here for lunch and I just beat the lunch crowd by a few minutes. It started to fill up by 12:15 pm or so. The place is quite big, with bar counter seating, booths and big tables. It is also a bit dark in there, nice for dinner dates, not so much for lunch. I had the one of the numerous tequila available, and it was strong. I think there was more tequila than sprite in my drink. The lunch combo/special came with a choice of salad or soup. I had the tortilla soup with my enchilada. The tortilla soup was delicious, with crispy strips of fried tortilla. It was flavorful and I loved the avocado in it. The beef enchilada with green chili sauce was also nice. Tender beef chunks inside, none of those shredded stuff. The only disappointment was the refried beans. It was heavier and not as smooth or creamy and tasty like the one I had recently in Bellingham. They also serve complimentary chips with salsa which tasted house-made. Very nice. I do not know why I took so long to eat here when I pass by this place often. This shall be one of my go-to places for lunch in future.

    Birria burrito

COME HUNGRY! Our only regret is that we didn't come more hungry. And then our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs. We started with the guac and chips and it was SO much guac. Pretty plain but still really yummy. My husband got the chicken fajitas (big fajita boy) and they were definitely up to his standards. I got the birria burrito and added rice and beans inside. It was one of the best burritos I've ever had (and I'm from California). The flavors were so deep and despite it being messy - it was delicious. The staff was incredible attentive and were willing to grab us anything. We were constantly checked in on. We will definitely be visiting again... hungry.

Thick waffle fries that we need to also replicate at home.

We decided to stay downtown for the weekend while taking in the Canucks & Capitals tilt on Friday night. We checked in to our hotel at 3:30 and wanted to get some food prior to the game. Although we enjoy the food at Rogers Arena, we are not thrilled by the cost of the offerings. We wandered West from our hotel and had a gander at the menu in the street and decided to partake, in spite of us having another establishment in mind when we left the hotel. The decor reminded us of Mexico, and the lighting especially was very cool. We were sat at the far corner at a window seat, right by the wait station, which is fine for us. Both of us having restaurant experience, we enjoy watching the inner working of kitchen to table. Our waitress was very engaging, and we discovered it was happy hour, which is even better. I ordered the HH cocktail, and the lovely K ordered the margarita and two taco's HH special but asked for a shaken margarita and not a slushy one. We said we would pay the difference, but that assertion was lost in translation and a slushy margarita showed up. There is not much that the lovely K dislikes, but that is one for sure. She demurred and took the margarita, while we awaited the 4" tacos. The tacos arrived in short order with a tomatillos salsa and a very dark looking hot chilli sauce that we did not try. The tomatillos sauce with our two tacos was excellent. It needs to be noted that the chips and salsa they bring after dropping the menus is very authentic, and not the Canadian/American that you typically see. We need to replicate that at home, as it's our favourite, as much as we love the usual that you see. Our initial two tacos were so good we had a redo, with beverages, including strangely a shaken margarita after the initial miscue. We also added the HH waffle fries which came with a tasty and a bit spicy chipotle dip. We would definitely go again, and in fact did Saturday morning hoping for huevos rancheros, which sadly is not on their weekend breakfast menu.

Well done! Tried their Chilaquiles - not sure what I was expecting but this was more nachos than anything else. Definitely not the best in the city either. Maiz De Cole - strangely the best option that I selected. The chilli, lamb, cilantro just went so well. Great light option if you need one. Definitely not better than a good Mexican street corn though. Birria Taco - wanted to like this but didn't leave much to be desired. Large portions of protein Ordered the extra Birria as my date also wanted this. Looking back, should have stuck with the single order. It was way too much birria protein which after a few bites became overly dry and lacked flavour. Carnitas Tacos - come in a order of 2. Better option for smaller appetites. Overall, felt a bit steep in price. Their website online doesn't even post prices yet.

The short rib stroganoff was deeply savory, rich, tender ribbons of beef folded into wide noodles with plenty of earthy wild mushrooms. It's deeply satisfying, though with all that rich sauce, the last few bites can feel pretty heavy. We also tried the savoury Dutch baby, which had great puffed, crispy edges and a custardy center that held up well against its savory toppings. The cocktail program is just as strong, with well-balanced drinks that don't lean overly sweet. The Service Friendly, down-to-earth, and attentive. We were greeted warmly at the entrance and guided upstairs without any awkward waiting. Drink orders were taken quickly, water was refilled consistently, and our server had honest recommendations when we asked to compare a couple of share plates. Pacing between drinks and hot food felt natural and relaxed. The Ambiance Easily the standout feature of the experience. Set inside a converted heritage house, it feels like dining in a bohemian, antique-filled living room. Between the fringed vintage lamps, dark moody walls, eclectic framed art, and soft amber lighting, the vibe is cozy, quirky, and distinctly romantic. It does get a little dim once the sun sets, and some tables in the smaller rooms are arranged fairly close together, but the character makes up for it.
