We live their food it always makes us feel like home. We went close to día de Los muertos and we started our breakfast with the traditional 'pan de muerto' , cafe de olla, and hot Mexican chocolate. We enjoyed Chilaquiles, huevos rancheros and the star was the 'Beef memela'. The service is amazing. The person are super friendly and they speak both English in Spanish. My mother and I stopped by here for dinner. I hardly saw any Mexican restaurants in Vancouver, I thought this place must be good....I was wrong! The restaurant was packed but it doesn't give any excuse for the floor staff to not greet incoming customers. The chips were cold and the salsa sauce was bland. It tasted like it was sitting out for a while. My mother ordered Steak Fajita and I ordered 4 Tacos. Food was below decent in quality and taste. I've had better Tacos and Fajitas at a cheap local restaurant in Washington...I honestly wanted my money back for the overpriced food at Patron Tacos & Cantina. Ambiance was horrible. Loud TV and I could barely hear my mother during our time here. It was very hard to find the waitress that served us when we wanted refills for water and cola. Being from southern California and know Mexican food, Patron is the closest to it. I order carne asada plate. Beef slice was very thin unlike the actual. Rice beans salad were well seasoned and delicious. Overall my meal was good. Salsa served with chips was excellent. Wish they were more generous with the chips. My guests both order chicken chimichanga and were OK with it but wish he was served with the rice beans and salad. The guacamole was generous and good. Street parking. Serve both Pepsi and Coke. After watching a show at a nearby venue, my husband and I wandered around the neighbourhood trying to decide where to go for a late lunch. We came across this place and were immediately hooked by the decor and the vibe. I imagine this place was as close to authentic Mexican food as you could get in Vancouver. The place was still hopping at such a late lunch hour, but we were seated quickly. I ordered the Carne Asada. Marinated Rib-Eye, salad, baked potatoes, avacado, rice and tortillas were all delicious and satisfied my hunger cravings, and it was a generous portion to boot! The only part about the dish I didn't appreciate as much, were the beans. They were mushed into a bean paste and I admit I was expected whole beans. I got the enchiladas and it came with tortilla soup (or choice of caesar salad) and complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. Food and service were good. A vibe! Loud music with their matching music videos all around the place. The place is super packed, usually a wait. They have margs with mini coronas upside down if you wanna turn up. Their meals are a bit pricey for some Mexican food (even visiting from California). Their guac was like $20 but it was humongous and delicious. They def didn't give us enough chips though, haha. Tacos & Cantina has a good vibe going on and the food is good here. It is more on the expensive side but the portions are big. Since its close to BC stadium it gets quite a crowd during games. Plenty of seating and the star shaped lights add to the ambiance. They have an outside patio which is nice for warm summer days. The staff is friendly and got us this extremely spicy sauce when we asked for something with extra heat. We get this on every visit now. Both the enchiladas (rajas poblanas and chicken tinga) were good. Comes with rice and beans. Got both red and green sauce. Their drinks are delicious and strong. This is the second time I've been here, but it has been a few years, and I've got to say this was incredible. The food was absolutely amazing; amongst the most flavourful Mexican food I've had outside of Mexico. My friend and I both had their huge wet burrito and had to take about a third of each of them home. Even the refried beans were better than elsewhere, somehow. My friend had a couple of wonderfully mixed spicy Mezcal margaritas and I was happy to have access to non-alcoholic Heineken. It was a little full when we were there which made for a busy and chatty atmosphere, along with the Latin music, which was a nice ambiance to go with the food. The prices are very reasonable/comparable but what made it even more special was the service. I came here for lunch and I just beat the lunch crowd by a few minutes. It started to fill up by 12:15 pm or so. The place is quite big, with bar counter seating, booths and big tables. It is also a bit dark in there, nice for dinner dates, not so much for lunch. I had the one of the numerous tequila available, and it was strong. I think there was more tequila than sprite in my drink. The lunch combo/special came with a choice of salad or soup. I had the tortilla soup with my enchilada. The tortilla soup was delicious, with crispy strips of fried tortilla. It was flavorful and I loved the avocado in it. The beef enchilada with green chili sauce was also nice. Tender beef chunks inside, none of those shredded stuff. The only disappointment was the refried beans. It was heavier and not as smooth or creamy and tasty like the one I had recently in Bellingham. They also serve complimentary chips with salsa which tasted house-made. Very nice. I do not know why I took so long to eat here when I pass by this place often. This shall be one of my go-to places for lunch in future. read more

COME HUNGRY! Our only regret is that we didn't come more hungry. And then our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs. We started with the guac and chips and it was SO much guac. Pretty plain but still really yummy. My husband got the chicken fajitas (big fajita boy) and they were definitely up to his standards. I got the birria burrito and added rice and beans inside. It was one of the best burritos I've ever had (and I'm from California). The flavors were so deep and despite it being messy - it was delicious. The staff was incredible attentive and were willing to grab us anything. We were constantly checked in on. We will definitely be visiting again... hungry. read more

We decided to stay downtown for the weekend while taking in the Canucks & Capitals tilt on Friday night. We checked in to our hotel at 3:30 and wanted to get some food prior to the game. Although we enjoy the food at Rogers Arena, we are not thrilled by the cost of the offerings. We wandered West from our hotel and had a gander at the menu in the street and decided to partake, in spite of us having another establishment in mind when we left the hotel. The decor reminded us of Mexico, and the lighting especially was very cool. We were sat at the far corner at a window seat, right by the wait station, which is fine for us. Both of us having restaurant experience, we enjoy watching the inner working of kitchen to table. Our waitress was very engaging, and we discovered it was happy hour, which is even better. I ordered the HH cocktail, and the lovely K ordered the margarita and two taco's HH special but asked for a shaken margarita and not a slushy one. We said we would pay the difference, but that assertion was lost in translation and a slushy margarita showed up. There is not much that the lovely K dislikes, but that is one for sure. She demurred and took the margarita, while we awaited the 4" tacos. The tacos arrived in short order with a tomatillos salsa and a very dark looking hot chilli sauce that we did not try. The tomatillos sauce with our two tacos was excellent. It needs to be noted that the chips and salsa they bring after dropping the menus is very authentic, and not the Canadian/American that you typically see. We need to replicate that at home, as it's our favourite, as much as we love the usual that you see. Our initial two tacos were so good we had a redo, with beverages, including strangely a shaken margarita after the initial miscue. We also added the HH waffle fries which came with a tasty and a bit spicy chipotle dip. We would definitely go again, and in fact did Saturday morning hoping for huevos rancheros, which sadly is not on their weekend breakfast menu. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon (~2pm) with a friend without reservation and was seated right away. If it was anymore than 2 people I believe there would have been a wait. We each ordered our own set of Baja prawn and fish tacos (~$20 for 3 tacos). Overall I wouldn't say this is the best taco place I've been to in Vancouver - the taco overall was a bit dry for my taste. With that being said, I did like that they gave complimentary chips and dip at the beginning and in general their service was good. I wish I could have rated this place higher / enjoyed this place more. The food was pretty good, the drinks were okay, but the service was horrendous. We were basically forgotten once the order was put in. Our water jug was empty and left by the edge of the table for over 20 minutes with our glasses empty. We had to flag them down to get it refilled and once they took the jug we waited another 10 minutes and saw that we've been completely been forgotten and had to flag someone else down and ask for the water we've been waiting on. Good food with good company makes for a great casual hang out dinner! Our Mexican friend recommended this place and helped us order a whole variety of foods to try. We got the tacos platter (?), enchiladas, and 4 tacos with different meats. All the flavours were on point, present but not overwhelming. I would say the only thing that was lacking was spice, as even the spicy salsa we asked for was only mildly spicy. Seeing as how this is on part of Downtown, the flavours might be catered more towards Canadian tastebuds. The tres leches cake was very, very, VERY sweet, so only order this if you like to eat straight up condensed sugar. (No judgement, my sister likes pouring sugar packets into her mouth, I still love her). Service was just okay, prices are pretty high but you're paying for the Robson St. rent more so than the food probably. Parking would be terrible (as expected), so transit/walking is the way to go. Pro-tip: Remember to ask for no onions and cilantros if that's something you can't stand like me! I had to give up almost an entire taco to my boyfriend (to his delight) because it was too difficult to pick out the onions and cilantros...(I know, I'm super weird, I like Mexican food but can't stand their top two ingredients. Not all Mexican food is created equal - any bar can slap on a Spanish name and serve up tacos, but Patron is the good stuff. It's not the MOST authentic Mexican food that exists in Vancouver, but it's definitely not just gimmicky tacos and burritos and it isn't Southwest food masquerading as Mexican, which unfortunately seems to be rampant in Canada. We showed up without a reservation at about 7pm on a Friday and the place was full, but they told us they would look at getting a table for us and were quick and committed in giving us an estimate of the wait. We were helped by a few different people while we were dining but the service was consistently friendly and quick on following up orders. The menu is pretty large and consists of a number of staple Mexican dishes, most of which are customizable with different meats or a vegetarian option. The filler options are generally pretty basic, but for base dishes I'd say they have more variety than the average Mexican place. Most dishes are also served with rice and refried beans. I had potato flautas, which I greatly enjoyed, tortillas were crispy and everything was very flavourful. My review isn't on the food because I didn't get a chance to try anything. I went to this restaurant to have breakfast, upon my arrival I was asked if anyone was joining me, I said no. Then I was told I could only sit at the bar or outside at a bar kind of seating. I said I'd prefer to sit at a table, the hostess told me those were my ONLY options, the tables are for larger parties, due to covid and spacing. The restaurant had 3 people in it, one guy at the bar and a couple way in the back, so I asked if they had reservations, she said no.. so I decided to leave. In the end they turned down a potential customer because they wanted to keep all tables available for customers that might come in to their pretty much empty restaurant. We ordered a milanesa sandwich, enchiladas and queso fundido. Highly recommend the enchiladas, it comes in 3 and the sauces were wonderfully made. The cheese fondue was huge and very filling- highly recommend for sharing. The skillet crusted the edges of the cheese throughout our dining experience and it was great!!!! My boyfriend and I just left this restaraunt and this has to be the worst taco joint we've ever gone to. If I could rate this negative stars I absolutely would. The hostess was incredibly rude, did not say a word to us, and was an absolute bit*h. I don't think we got any smiles from anyone in the duration while we were here. The menus were filthy, sticky, had food between the pages. The table weren't wiped down, and neither were the seats. The food was completely bland and lacked any flavour, the birria looked like barbacoa, the meat was cold/old, the tortilla was so soggy it seemed like it was almost microwaved. Portions were enough to feed a small dog. The meal itself was $65 and not worth it considering the entire experience. Another thing I like about this place is that it's quiet enough to have a nice conversation. Carnitas tortas - served with those cute little hatched fries. Bread was nice and crisp. It was a busy Saturday night and we were seated within 5-10 minutes. Service was very friendly and fast. A pitcher of water was immediately placed on our table. They were able to accommodate our toddler with a kids quesadilla and they informed us they always bring the kids food out first the kids meal was out within five minutes and the rest of our dinners were out within ten minutes. Arguably the second worst Mexican food I've eaten. Restaurant ambience is cool and the staff is friendly. It just doesn't make up for the food. Chips were not bad and the salsa was pretty good. There was just no heat. The red sauce was sweet and had a mild heat, while the tomatillo was nearly flavorless. Then came the guacamole. We couldn't even finish this over-processed dip that had more in common with a green goddess dressing. Delicious food, great atmosphere. We came here on a Friday night and waited about 5 minutes for a table in a full house to clear. We chose to sit at the bar and stay there. Very friendly staff. The traditional lime margarita's were sooo good. I loved the light partial rimming of 1/3 of the glass. Slick move. I had the beef Milanesa and my gf had the enchiladas. Both tasty and delicious. There were a lot of mixed reviews so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was a bit apprehensive to try the restaurant but decided to judge it for myself I found myself pleasantly surprised! I didn't grow up eating Mexican food or flavours so I can't say I appreciated it before but Patron has killer tortillas. The quesadilla was perfection....!!! Super crunchy and we were able to get one of each filling (chicken, chorizo, beef). The chicken was my favourite. I also got the sautéed prawn tacos. There were a total of 3 tacos with 3 huge prawns in the taco. I thought the price was worth the seafood. It's a bit on the spicy side but really good.
