We stopped in for dinner on a whim and ended up really glad we did. It was a bit loud and hard to have a conversation but it was a friendly spot with a warm atmosphere. The service was welcoming and friendly. The chicken mole stood out. The sauce is rich and complex, smoky with a subtle sweetness underneath, and you can tell real care went into it. It's a dish worth ordering if you want something with a bit of depth rather than the usual. The margarita menu is worth exploring too, with a solid range of tequilas and mezcals to choose from. Prices are fair and the portions are satisfying. A dependable choice for good Mexican food downtown, and a place I'd happily recommend to anyone in the area, just try to go during non-peak hours. read more

Honestly, I had started to think that Vancouver didn't have very good tacos. But Tequila Cocina changed my mind! Firstly, love that there are complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa is tomatillo based and excellent, I wish there had been more! The tacos were also so good- we had al pastor, carnitas, and a braised lamb one. The house made hot sauces/salsas were also a nice touch. The mango one is deceptively hot! Went in for Sat 1am takeout. Thank you for being open. I was craving tacos so I ordered the mix-n-match 5 taco dinner. I've never had 3 different types of tacos all be served with onion and cilantro garnish. So, the flavor was nearly the same except for the meat which didn't make up for the same onion and cilantro garnish. Sad because I'd preferred different flavors for each taco style. read more

This is the most authentic Mexican food I've found in the West End area. The tacos are served traditional style, with a choice of traditional filling such as pastor, cicil, and carne asada. The carnitas were the best, succulent and juicy. The Mole don Pollo was excellent, a bit more chocolatey than traditional, but nicely complex with spices. The complementary chips are excellent, apparently fried twice to get them to puff up a bit, and the accompanying salsa verde was spot on. Service was pleasant and efficient, all seemingly done by one person who was also tending bar. Speaking of which, the margaritas (lime, on the rocks, of course) were excellent. read more

Prices are reasonable. Food is excellent. Service is wonderful. The music is upbeat and fun. The rustic aesthetic for the tables and bar are a great fit for the area and cantina style. And the food, From the chicken quesadilla to the veggie pastor tacos to the beef flautas, everything was absolutely wonderful. Even the salsa with our chips was outstanding. I definitely recommend this little cantina for lunch or dinner. We brought our kiddos and they had a blast and enjoyed everything. Kept it straightforward at this small place - wings and tacos, plus cocktails. We went with the dry rub wings (really tasty), as well as three shrimp tacos and two lamb barbacoa tacos with consume for dipping. One line review: As good as we've had for Mexican in Vancouver -- though that's not a high bar. We stopped for lunch here on a day when we used the little ferries to explore False Creek. We liked that they had a patio for us to eat outdoors -- still important to us in the pandemic-but-post-restriction days. Our server was genial and kind. He tried to upsell us, but in a friendly, non-binding way. We ordered a carnitas burrito and three tacos -- chorizo, asada, and barbacoa. Everything was tasty enough but not huge and fairly mild for our taste. The server brought us two kinds of habanero salsa, which helped some. We did not park, as we walked from the ferry. But IIRC, parking in that area is expensive at meters. If we were to head to Yaletown on a date, we'd probably take transit (though I guess for two, ends up being as much as parking). Bottom line: This was a decent meal and enough to eat, but it wasn't special in any way. The quest for really good Mexican food in Vancouver continues and not super hopefully. read more

Two weeks ago, I went to dinner and ordered a tequila and a beer, which is a normal drink. Tequila goes well with beer, and I order it regularly at various restaurants. Tequila is NOT a shot in this case. The bartender came over and told me he couldn't serve me that because having more than 2 ounces of liquor on the table isn't allowed in Vancouver (??)... Both the birria and the barbaco was just flavorless. The bread for the torta was too stale and tough to bite through, even a knife wouldn't cut it. We asked for a new bun and were told that all were the same. When something is that bad, pull it off the menu that day. I have never seen a Yelp rating so far off. read more

Now comes the happy hour food. Only 4 choices of food. Got the Tostada x2 small. I do not think they have any idea what a tostada is. See picture included. Come here if you want to be scammed! Menu advertises "all you can eat tacos" with purchase of a drink (photo attached). Once you've eaten your fill, you'll be delivered a check that has a $30 additional charge on top of the drink that you've just been required to pay for. Whats the 30 dollars for you ask? That would be the price to participate in the "all you can eat" taco deal. This price is no where to be found on the menu and completely concealed from customers except for a small notice, written on a chalkboard on the side walk, displayed in the dark at night. The brunette man and brunette woman manager on Thursday night were extremely unhelpful and suggested we ought to have known it was too good of a deal to be true and offered to charge us per taco instead (after we had just indulged on the "all you can eat" deal???? My cousin ate 10 tacos!!!). Honestly can't believe scams like this exist in Vancouver on Granville street. Seriously, beware. I'll be making a BBB compliant promptly. read more

I love Mexican food!!! So I go around visiting different places. About a month ago I stumbled across tequila cocina, and fell in love with the birria!! I raved about it to my husband, so finally he agreed to visit. Unfortunately it was not very good soggy tortilla and lacking flavour. I was craving tacos the other night after work and saw Tequila Cocina on my way home, I've heard of them before, they also had a North Van location and decided to finally try them out! They had a bundle for 5 tacos for $19.99 so I decided to get 3 Asada tacos and 2 Pastor tacos. The staff there are incredibly friendly and welcoming, the inside of the restaurant was really clean and had lots of neon light signs and a full bar as well, and yes they do check proof of vaccination! I noticed that they have different specials everyday including all you can eat tacos for $25 on thursday, and live music on the weekends which I will definitely have to check out! I loved that they were playing popular reggaeton music in the restaurant it made it feel really fun. Within 15 minutes, my tacos were ready and they packed it up nicely with tin foil and extra sauce for my trip home. They also gave me a lime wedge but for 5 tacos, 1 wedge was not enough! I was really excited to eat my tacos when I got home and it was so worth it. The tacos each had 2 corn tortillas. I think that they forgot to put pineapples on my pastor tacos but it was still delicious regardless, tender meat with a spicy kick and paired really well with the cilantro and onion. The asada tacos were definitely my favourite... wow I think these are the best steak tacos I've ever had! The steak was cooked to perfection and so flavourful and tender, not chewy or hard like other places I've tried before. I highly reccomend this taco place, I definitely will return and bring my friends for the all you can eat tacos to try the other kinds! read more

I live in the neighborhood and I always wondered about their food . So today I ordered three tacos for takeout . Knowing for well I wasn't going to eat them right away . So I was resigned to them being just something maybe tasty to take away my dinner hunger . But OMG ! Even though they had been reheated properly they were awesome . I've noticed lately that restaurants are often like my former hairdressers . You know you find a good one and a have a few haircuts and then it either goes downhill or they quit . This little restaurant's been around the neighborhood for quite a Time and today was the day I wanted to see what they were all about . Really bright and Lively room. Kind of really funky kind of between kind of old-fashioned Jazz and Mexico and you name it it's around . Literally noisy but aren't they all ? Anyway getting to the meat of the matter if they were I had to Barbacoa and I had pork and I had chicken and like I said they were really really good and I will not only be ordering from them in the future I'm going to pop around and maybe eat meals on the Reg . Couldn't do it tonight cuz I had my puppy with me . Kudos to these people . I hope they are around for a good long time . Came here for their 1.99 tacos on Tuesdays. I tried every taco for that price and it was so good! Normally at other places there is always a taco where the meat is dry but not this place!
