My tiling situation is probably different from most people. I had used two different contractors to first, replace the subfloor, and later, to tile the bathroom floor of my little cottage. After less than ten years, the tiles began to loosen and crack. Lucien St. Cyr inspected both the subfloor and floor and determined that both would need replacement. His estimate came in at $1,200. As he began the work, it became clear that the toilet had a crack at the base and had leaked water below the old tiles and affected the subfloor, so he added a low flow toilet to the estimate, bringing the total to $1,600. Lucien replaced the subfloor with the correct waterproof material, hired a plumber to plumb the toilet and a new vanity sink and tiled the floor. The entire process took a week to complete.
The most impressive aspect of Lucien's work is his attention to detail and his desire to make sure the work not only meets, but also exceeds the customer's expectations. He arrived within a reasonable timeframe and if he was unable to arrive at the agreed upon time, he would call to set up alternative times convenient for the customer. He was respectful of my home, cleaning his tools and work area each day after he completed the tasks. I asked for a certain color grout. He worked hard to match the right grout coloring for my floor and grouted the tiles two times until he was certain it was correct. This process did not add money to my final bill, but showed me his commitment to doing things right!
I really enjoyed Lucien's company while he worked in my home. I was so impressed that I asked him to tile my front entranceway and plan to retile my kitchen in the spring of 2013. I live in an area where contractors are abundant, but not always responsive to customer needs.
