This place is a Madison must! I must have come here at least 20 times over the last 3.5 years and I leave so impressed every. single. time. Their drinks are amazing (love the pink chimney and any of the seasonal ones), the caesar salad is to die for, and any of their pizzas are always a hit. The two story layout with the bar in the middle gives a really cool vibe, and they do such a cute job decorating it in the winter season for the holidays! I have never been, but they also have a REALLY cool downstairs lounge/converted vault for larger parties. Highly recommend the Wednesday Date Night Special! A fun, delicious takeout option to enjoy with someone special! $30 for 3-courses (salad, pizza, and dessert). The caesar salad dressing was honestly probably one of the best I've ever had - perfectly savory and creamy. For pizza, we got the Umami pie which was outstanding - loved the topping combination - one of my new faves, definitely delivered on the umami-ness. We arrived and waited 5 minutes with no waiter or receptionist seating us, we went upstairs and asked if we could be seated they said we needed to wait for a receptionist. We went back down and wait for another few before just sitting at the bar since they said there were no available tables. Madison has a ton of great cocktail bars, and Lucille is certainly a part of that list. Let me be clear: it would be up there with Merchant/Mint Mark/Robin Room if we were just talking drinks. The food, however, just doesn't do it for me. The guac starter, while huge, is $14 for bland oily chips and a vat of guac that just isn't really good. It tastes like the factory made little sealed individual guacs. Not worth it. It does come with some lil veggies so that's nice but not enough to change my opinion. The Detroit style pizza is decent, not the best I've had and not the worst. They have some good flavor combos, and just one of these feeds 2-3 so it's a decent value. Lucille was not the name that comes to mind when I thought "brunch" after getting a breakfast burrito, pizza, and an amazing dessert however, I have pulled a 180! To me, brunch means the best of both worlds, and well, Lucille delivers. The breakfast burrito had a crisp crunch, flavorful bites, and was served with perfectly crisped potatoes. They don't have their stuff together whatsoever and the staff was ridiculous and pretty rude to us. Honestly felt like the hosts were all hosting at a restaurant for the first time that day. After waiting more than 5 minutes for the 3 hosts to check in the one group in front of us, I went to the side of the stand to get someone's attention and asked "Can we just take one of the open tables outside." We were told yes by the hostess who seemed to be in charge. It was about 5:00pm. 4 kids and 4 adults. We took the one table that we would fit at and settled in. A waitress brought out stuff for the kids to color, waters, took our drink orders, and to set up the table. A few minutes later she came back and said there was a mistake this table was reserved. I asked if it would be possible to switch the other group to another table, we are 8 people including 4 kids under 5 its quite a process to move and you said take any table. She said no, we're trying to figure something out. We started getting our stuff together, and I went inside to see what the situation was. I guess the hosts didn't realize I was with the group they were moving, because they were talking rudely about us right in front of me. That's when I said "no, I asked and you said take any table you want." They didn't seem to feel bad whatsoever that they were saying that stuff in front of me. While this was going on the college students that they were seating at our table came over, they were only a group of four. They offered to sit elsewhere and apologized. The staff told them no, we are going to honor your reservation for this table. Ok so now you clearly just don't want kids around, what else could it be? I took a spin around the restaurant and came back and said "you have something like 9 open enormous booths that will fit us upstairs, can we sit there?" I was told there are reservations later tonight so "we can't, but we're working on it." I then said we'll be out of here in an hour, I feel like there are enough empty tables that you can make this work." She again declined and told us then said that the restaurant next door was pretty good and we should check it out. The food looked gross anyways and we had an amazing meal next door so I'm glad we left. Just say you don't want kids at the restaurant you prefer people that run up a bar bill. When we walked by an hour later after our great meal next door I looked up and saw at least 1 empty booth. read more

Later in the day when we called, the story changed to "we are short-staffed and you will first have to come to the restaurant to give your name. Hostess would not honor the morning commitment. So a 25 minute walk plus an hour wait while at least 15 tables sat empty. Strike 2. Ordered peach cocktails. No peach. Orange instead. Terrible cocktail-- sour lemon, undrinkable. Returned them. Lucille has traditionally been one of my favorite restaurants in Madison. Recently, the service has not been up to par with what they used to provide. We went in for the holiday pop up bar for a birthday celebration and it was a very poor experience. First off, the food was absolutely amazing. Hands down some of the best food I've had in Madison. We had the cheese curds and pork belly lettuce wraps for appetizers. Both were great, but the cheese curds were the best in the city. We had multiple pizzas, trying both the wood fired and steel pan. Hands down amazing, likely favored the deep disk style steel pan. And the best part ... the drinks. My wife and I got two separate drinks and both were phenomenal. Get the Painkiller, hands down. We heard such great things about Lucille! Sadly, I wonder if our opinions would have changed if we were seated inside. It looks like a fantastic atmosphere inside, but we sat outside on the street because we were told it would be a 45 minute wait for the inside. To be honest, it seemed like it wouldn't take that long since it was not that busy at 5:30 yet... So not sure why we were quoted such a long wait time. Now I don't mind waiting for delicious pizza though! We ended up splitting two pizzas. The umami pizza was absolutely mouthwatering and I really enjoyed it! The crust was done perfectly and the toppings were top-notch. I do recommend this pizza and would order it again without question. Sadly, the steel pan pizza we were looking forward to was not as wonderful as it looked at first. For some reason, the bread got soggy and doughy. The toppings were heavy, unbalanced, and the flavor fell flat. I took a photo, but I deleted it since it reminded me of how disappointing it was! One of the best spots in Madison! I've been to Lucille 5 times now, and every time the experience has been incredible. From the food and drinks, to the service and ambiance (both inside and out on their patio), this place is just about perfect. I even brought my mom here (who is not easy to please), and she agreed that the cheese curds are the best she's ever had. I also love their pizzas and cocktails. Their date night menu is an absolute gem ($50 for two people with an app, entree, desert AND a bottle of wine is a great deal). I've never had a bad meal here, and every server I've had has been kind and the perfect level of attentive. I plan on continuing to come here for as long as I'm in Madison! read more

Extremely rude hostess. Turned 12 well dressed adults coming from a wedding who were stone cold sober. Apparently there were too many of us even though there were many tables empty and we were just having drinks. And she knew it. She WAS NOT KIND or accommodating. Lucille is a really cool restaurant just off of Madison's square. The inside is two stories, with a gorgeous industrial design. It's normally very busy so I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time. I ordered a personal 10'' Umami pie, which was delicious. It had Kale, grilled chicken, roasted mushrooms, and a black garlic cream. The ingredients on top of it may seem strange to some, but that's what made it such a unique option! The crust held together well under the weight of all the ingredients and wasn't soggy. I also ordered a side of the cheese curds, which came with two great dipping sauces to enjoy them with. Our pizzas took a while to come out, but the place was packed, so the pace made sense in that regard. Our waitress was really friendly and attentive; she also made some awesome suggestions in regards to pizzas choices. Overall, I really enjoyed my dinner at Lucille and I wouldn't hesitate to go back! Our first time visiting this amazing pizza joint... We heard the feedback from our friends about just how great the food is and figured we better find out for ourselves. We have pretty high standards when it comes to pizza. Doesn't matter if we judge Woodfire or a Deep Dish! We were spoiled growing up eating some of the best that Chicago / Rockford IL has to offer, which is known for some of the best pizza in the world. So I like to think we are a great non biased couple who can judge Wisconsin Pizza on which ones are above and beyond. I do have two local favorites. Now I have a new #1. Prior to this amazing visit I would have said in my opinion Salvatore pizza in Sun Prairie was #1 and Gem City in Baraboo was my #2. Not anymore..... When entering the beautiful restored old building we were instantly greeted with smiles and welcomes. We were asked if we had reservations and instantly sat. Keep in mind this was on a Tuesday night around 7:30pm. Dinnertime for us! The place was packed and buzzing. Beautiful interior, super clean, classy place, but casual dress code I would day. Main level was a beautiful, big bar that offers lots of seating and dining. We were walked upstairs to our booth that gave us the best view in the house. Right in front of the window facing the capital. Best view in the entire place. We were very impressed to say the least. Off to a great start we both said. We were worried when walking to our table, because we came with our 5 year old daughter and a 4 month old infant and the place was packed. Nobody seemed to mind at all! So later in the evening we both felt relieved that the vibe was ok to have our young children here with us. We instantly we greeted by our server who was very knowledgeable and helpful. He poured us our waters and got our drink orders. I want to comment on the craft beer selection is very impressive.for those of you that care. They offer flights and have some very rare tasty beers to choose from. Almost 40 on draft that alwaysg rotate or more and several more in cans or bottles. They offer all the specialty drinks, wine and martinis as well. We ordered 2 different pizzas! One Wood Fire style that is the thin crust. We went with the Mediterranean style pizza... Yum yum.. Cooked perfectly, fresh toppings, perfect proportions, impressive presentation and best of all great taste. Overall just well made! Then for what they call their Detroit Deep Dish with cheese in the crust we ordered the meat lovers style. Wowsers! With the addition of some fresh sauce placed on top, the crust perfectly golden crispy and the right amount of crunch. Bravo!!!! Lastly before going home we decided to share a dessert as a family. We had a skillet chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. It was served nice and warm.... It was the icing on the cake. Absolutely delicious meal from start to finish. I drove into Madison from Milwaukee hearing amazing things about Lucille, and THEY DID NOT LIE. The pizzas were amazing. We got the Queen with Prosciutto and the Sausage and Rabe. Additionally, the One Barrel Commuter beer is perfect with the pizzas. Thrilled with the response from Lucille to COVID-19. The signage is good, the foyer/maitre d' station is great; the outdoor seating with heaters was comfy as one could hope. Food-wise, the cheese curds were unctuous in the best way possible and the pizza (we had the Weekender) was fantastic.
