The Lucky Dog Cafe is hands-down the best food-and-drink place on the whole strip of Columbia Ave. running west out of Lancaster. They offer a full menu until midnight seven days a week, and as of now they offer roast beef sandwiches until last call on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. In addition, they have a specials menu that routinely offers soups, appetizers and meals not on the regular menu. The staff is friendly and service is good. There are times -- sometimes on weekends -- when the place is full and service may be a click slower than usual. But the staff hustles through these busy periods to provide the best service possible. As for the food, the wings here are among the best in the area and the blue cheese is the best I've had anywhere -- light, very chunky, I could almost eat it with a spoon. The roast beef sandwich remains a connection to the past, when this place was known as the Manor Ridge Inn. It still is a 1/2 pound of sliced roast beef on a roll with jus, horseradish and a handful of chips in true tavern style. The full menu also has appetizers, burgers, salads, meals, sandwiches, and some of the best cole slaw around. The kitchen uses fresh ingredients and even incorporates fresh produce when the season permits. For this they get a perfect score as well! read more

Went there to watch a Penn State game as I am relatively new to the area and it was recommended as a place to watch the game with other fans. It was busy inside. Only table available was by the door. I have a boot cast on and propped my foot up on another chair at the table. I'm short and my leg is too short to rest my foot on the chair crossbar and the cast is too heavy to dangle my leg. The bartender came up to me pretty abruptly and said I can't sit like that I was blocking the door. He also said he would find me another place to sit. (Never talked to him again until I asked for my check) Mind you, the chair was pulled out less than the space the person who joined me took up and occupied the same exact chair later. I also have some social anxiety and confrontation like that I don't deal well with, I fought back tears and said ok. Let my foot dangle where the chair dug into the back of my leg with the weight of the boot pulling on it. I ended up switching to the other side of the table and propped my leg towards the wall. I'm not sure who my server was. Three different people waited on us or asked if we needed things on occasion but not often. They seemed more task oriented to breaking down the patio area. Food was general tavern fare. Not bad but not great. Service was meh. I tipped well but probably won't be back. The experience was just underwhelming. I understand times are tough in the restaurant industry. I have decades of experience working in it but it was more that bartender and how he was a little too loud and stood over me making other people turn and look and how uncomfortable I was with it that tarnished the experience. read more

Pros: open late, convenient location, one stop shopping for beverage and food, fair prices, good variety, food was tasty but not memorable Cons: parking tight and awkward, dining room setting is loud and not atheistically pleasing to look at, long wait for table in a crammed space, waitress service poor - long wait to get order taken and for food to arrive, food was average and not worth the long wait To summarize the visit - if you are in a hurry, on a romantic dinner date, or expecting a family friendly or relaxing dining experience this is not for you. read more

Great Dive bar....Love it I will be going back to try the food really really soon.... So I've been back numerous times since I went for drinks. My new favorite dive bar by far! Favorite items - WINGS have an excellent kick and great flavor SLIDERS are cute and a little taste of heaven ROAST BEEF sandwich is to DIE for....actual I'm craving one right now! It's a dive bar....don't expect fancy or fast but it is worth every minute of wait. Yes and the parking is odd but if the lot is full don't park on the street behind...it means it's packed and you'll have to wait - god forbid - to get a table. The weekly specials are excellent too! They did NOT mess up my aunts order. That already scores points. (She's very picky) Anyways, my review. I got there right about when dinner started and reserved a table for my group. I ordered the Green Bay Burger for myself with fries. The Green Bay is a big patty with cheese and bacon. Oh my, this is good. I only need to complain about the noise level, its a bit loud and I wanted to hear the TV that was nearby and still couldn't hear it. If you're gonna mute the TV, at least turn on the closed captioning for us. All in all, this place is good. And its right across from Dairy Queen. read more

Been visiting this bar since it was the old Manor Ridge. Still a good place to meet up with friends over drinks and decent bar food. Roast beef is great, beer selection is lousy if your looking for craft beers. Staff is always busy, but always hard working and friendly. They give a good pour and take care of the customer. This is more bar than restaurant but I have three words for you.... Get - the - wings! I found these wings to be some of the meatiest I have ever been served and although I only ordered mild tonight the flavor was great! I came to watch the football game and am not from the area so I didn't know what to expect - I was pleasantly surprised! What I found was a great place with that "neighborhood bar, Cheers-type" feel to it. My first contact was with Heidi on the phone and she set the tone for the night by being friendly and literally.inviting me to stop in! The great atmosphere continued as she and Abby served me beer and wings throughout the game. I interacted more with Heidi and I cannot speak highly enough of her service and attitude. Their is a dining room in the back half of the place and I can only imagine that when I come back for dinner I will be equally pleased. I shared the initial experience of another reviewer - the location and look of the Lucky Dog kept me away for far too long and the "Cafe" in the title is a bit of a misnomer. This place has become my go-to watering hole since. The exterior makes this place look like you wouldn't want to go in without a group of buddies to back you up but it's really the most laid-back place in town if you want to get a drink and some good bar food. They only have a few standard beers on tap (Yuengling, Bud, etc) but have a full bar and the drinks are always a little on the strong side, which is always a plus. The food is has NEVER let me down, as well.I get their wings a couple times a month and their burgers are massive, especially considering the price. They also have a few true entrees on the menu like meatloaf but I've never had reason to expand outside the wing and burger comfort zone. For the best possible service, I recommend either sitting in the elevated dining area in the back or at the actual bar. The tables to the side of the bar will get you good service up until you finish your meal but closing out my tab there has always felt like it took too long and, more often than not, I end up walking over to the bar and closing it out there. Still, that's a minor nitpick for an otherwise great bar with great food and a good staff. read more

Traveling through and while at the local Harley Davidson dealership inquired about a local place to grab a bite. Glad I asked. This place is an awesome dive bar; even better NO smoking. I came in well after one o'clock on a Saturday and there were still plenty of locals eating, enjoying libations, and watching different sports on television. Since I sat at a bar table I didn't expect fast service - the bar tender was handling everything - but she was great. Heard that it was a good place to eat. We went last night and there were 4 other tables. The gal that gave our menus and got the drinks was very prompt and friendly. Then the wait...it took about 10 minutes or so for the waitress to come take our order. The crab & artichoke dip was very good and we figured if this was an example of the food everything else was going to be really good. Well, we were wrong. Ribs came out cold so did the Cubano sandwich. Sent the ribs back and that took another 10 minutes or so to get them back (I had to ask where they were). I'm a veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan in the Army and I have served in the mighty Marine Corps, first of all I felt disrespected and all I was trying to do was get a drink only because that the waitress was talking with a friend at the end, and when I did jokingly I got jumped on with two bartenders who are off duty no big deal stuff happens, but honestly I don't think I would take my Legion Riders, my VFW Riders, my moose Riders and other organizations that I'm associated with hair especially my veteran organizations I kind of felt bad that I even said anything to get a beer... maybe I'll come back see if it changed but you never know who you serve and I even brought my buddy from Wisconsin was a police officer who is very disappointed Mary Ann was awesome to the end and I still check their properly Abby and her close friend would definitely disrespectful but hey guess I wasn't local enough... read more

food so good, i have become a regular. it aint pretty, but it is damn good. the hand cut fries are awesome. ketchup would be a crime, although malt vinegar is good for an occasional change of pace. order the side car with your sandwich 'cause a full order is just too much food with the size of their plates. Specials and fresh soups every day on the whiteboard. The 'famous' roast beef sandwich is HUGE and an exceptional value. The burgers are also quite large and tasty. The open face roast beef is also a fav. have not had a disapointing meal yet. Fast and friendly service at the bar and elevated dining room. If the place is crowded, expect service to slow down quite a bit. Its a local place without a large staff. it's what keeps the prices down and the doors open during hard times. read more

Fun little dive bar. Solid Draft selection, good menu at decent prices. Food has been good every time I've been here & I've had a variety of things, Wings, Burgers, Pub Fare, it's all been pretty tasty. Lots of TV's for NFL, NHL, MLB & other various sports. Had lunch here on 12/30/15 with my wife and daughter, who lives in Lancaster. We shared a dozen of the mild wings which I found to be some of the best I've ever eaten. Nice and crispy and served with some good chunky blue cheese dressing for dipping. Our table also had a chicken finger platter as well as one fine burger....all for a great price. It is a bar, and they have mostly bar type food, but it is some of the best I've had. I would gladly return to this place the next time I am in town. read more

The service was acceptable and the food prices reasonable so I really wanted to be able to give a good review however the food was terrrible! The French fries were so greasy and under cooked and soggy. The coleslaw was not near fresh and was even slightly discolored. I had fish and it was extremely greasy and not good at all.
