This place is always on our list when we visit the area. We went twice during our stay and ordered the same thing and happened to get the same server. They always give great service. My husband loves the Crab & Jack omelette. It is filled with lots of crab. I order the Prince Street Special with pork roll. So good! FYI- they do not have GF bread. There is a lot to like about an old fashioned diner that has been here since 1941 without much changed. My 91 year old mother came here as a child with her dad in the '40s when they came to the city for doctor appts and she said it looks just the same. This place looks antiquated, and on the negative side I did not see a ramp or any handicap access. My mom was able to lift her walker up and down the 2 stone steps. The doors are heavy and the entrance narrow. The bathrooms could accommodate a wheelchair if the doors weren't so narrow. I imagine they have some kind of historical variance allowing them to be so inaccessible. Service was slow but with a smile. Servers were friendly and fellow diners chatty as well. Most food offerings are $10 or less. I ordered a blueberry pancake, plate sized and full of blueberries. I wanted to put butter on it but those hard little butter pats were not going to work. My mom also got pancakes. They were filling, not particularly yummy but considering our total bill was under $20 including iced teas I didn't complain. Some of the desserts looked yummy. Apparently there is an attached space for possibly a larger party but it was closed for construction. Otherwise it is pretty much booth space for 4 or the counter. I was glad we chose to stop in here if only for the nostalgia of it. Can't really see why we would go back. But inexpensive breakfast fare keeps a steady stream of regulars! read more

Mariah our server always smiling. There is no big deal given four different checks.. and if we could give a ten, we would, it's an authentic diner from days going by. We had a visor in from spain, and that's the number one thing she wanted to see is an authentic american diner. Great diversity. If you're visiting this area, do not come here. We stopped by this morning. The girl that sat us down was very unfriendly. Then our waitress took 20 minutes to take our order. The omelette came out 10 minutes after everything else and then she said she'd be right back in three minutes with the toast that went with the omelette. The toast arrived 10 minutes after that and I told her what's the point I have already eaten my food at this point in time. There were no apologies. No graciousness. This is a great spot for a yummy breakfast. I've had basically the same omelette (mushroom and American cheese) with potatoes at ALOT of places in the area. This one was super tasty. Potatoes were perfect. Excellent cheese to egg ratio. And the sour dough toast tasted sour. I can't ask for anything more! My niece had steak and eggs and loved it. Service was good, food came reasonably quickly. It's a small classic diner so has all the authentic charm to go with it. Keep in mind weekends they serve ONLY BREAKFAST. No lunch. Mariah was our very bubbly waitress at the very unassuming Neptune Diner. Housed in a circa 1950's retro stainless steel rail car restaurant. We arrived with a group of 10 and quickly found seating along the back wall . Don't let looks deceive you! The extensive menu is loaded with wonderfully innovative items! Our group ordered a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items including a stack of chocolate peanut butter pancakes, chicken tender salad with avocado ranch dressing, and a Porky Pig sandwich (bbq brisket on a lovely roll). If you're like me and wake up the morning after a Lancaster wedding wanting to grab a a "real" breakfast on your way home, you should probably skip Neptune Diner. First thing was that I received a glass of milk with a nice long hair in it. Then, our waitress proceeded to make several simple mistakes (wrong toast for me, no meat for my buddy) because she "didn't write our order down." Prices are fine, nothing crazy, but the breakfast food is disappointingly basic. My take on the chorizo omelette is that if you can't tell it's a chorizo omelette from the outside, the kitchen is too much of an assembly line. Home fries were bland. "Baklava Pancakes" came in a large stack but, as you can see, had no outward indication of being "Baklava." If you're wondering something along the lines of, who is this guy to know what a Baklava pancake should look like, just Google it. There were small morsels of candied *something* wedged between the pancakes, but it was a sad rendition of something that could easily be the highlight of the menu. It's certainly a diner and a slice of Americana, but next time I think I'll go with the continental breakfast at the hotel. read more

Food Quality / quantity / price and friendly staff put this place as a must try for this retro style dinner with history. I often bring my grandson who enjoys eating at the counter. You may find the staff shirts very amusing or a bit eccentric. The Raisin Toast was more of a desert as it seemed to have a sugary crust to it... quite tasty. The service was great and I really enjoyed the venue. My boyfriend and I went there for the first time to try something new. I ordered the spicy tender wrap that was on their specials menu. The lady came back and said they were out of jalapeños, so she brought me a wrap with no jalapeños. Then as I was eating my wrap I noticed there was pieces that I was unable to chew. I looked down and realized they left the paper from the cheese in my wrap. We told the waitress , she took the paper from inside the wrap and walked away. Never offered to bring me a new one or something else to replace it, so I ended up sharing my boyfriend's food because I'm pregnant and need to eat. She watched us walk to the register, never acknowledged us. They still made us pay full price for the whole meal. Definitely not returning to this place!! read more

So... I just have to say this. Yesterday, we stopped by Route 66 to grab a couple of cheesesteaks after spending some time downtown. We parked across the street in the Neptune Diner Lancaster Pa parking lot. The Neptune was closed. We walked across to Route 66 and ordered our to go food. It was our first time there and it was definitely a good stop, good food, good prices. It was busy there and, while we were waiting for our order, someone said, "Hey, if you're parked across the street you're about to get towed." I looked out the window, it was me. Now, let me say this, there was signage about the property and that vehicles may be towed. So, I was guilty of that... but if your business is closed and I'm not preventing your customers from accessing your business, I see no harm in parking there for 15 or 20 minutes... there is no good reason to have me towed... unless you're such a cheap prick with a failing business, that you actually watch your parking lot in the cameras when you're closed and you call to have a tow truck come and tow those vehicles out so you can get a piece of the tow money. Maybe if your business didn't perform in such a substandard way, whether it be the quality of your product, or your service or your hours of operation, you may not have to sit and watch your parking lot to scrape up some dollars while inflicting loss on good people. Is it really worth it to you to make the money you do, sitting at home and calling in to report people for parking in your lot when your business is closed? I was there maybe 12 to 15 minutes... and the tow truck operator informed me that you are the snitch. Shame on you, the Mountis family, Tony, Gus and Alex. Lancaster city is supposed to be about growing local family owned businesses and helping to support one another to be successful, but you apparently see people parking on your crappy piece of asphalt as some sort of threat to your flailing business... and that's why you sit and watch it when you're closed and penalize customers who frequent other open businesses. You are pathetic, and I am being polite when I say that. It cost me $170 to have my car unhooked after you greedy bastards snitched me out. It's not so much about the money to me, because I'll make more money tomorrow. My wife and I have been blessed by the grace of God... I'm not greedy like your family is. Shameful. I don't Rob Peter to pay Paul. The worst part was, when I had a good conversation with the guy who had to come hook my car. Apparently, the biggest victims of your tow scam are our local college kids... that you sit and watch your cameras when you're closed and call to have them hooked and pay the toll... so you can get your piece. Again, shameful, definitely not God like. I hope your business fails... I hope it falls miserably. I've eaten there before, you are substandard, at best. Karma is a bitch. I hope that all of my friends read this, and if they are patrons, stop going and spending their hard earned money there, or at least ask the Mountis family why they would be such pieces of crap when it comes to their decisions of greed over principles? I hope my friends share this post... and their friends of good conscience share it as well. As a side note, apparently this happens to a lot of Route 66 customers. When I walked back over to get my order, after moving my car, more than one customer told me they had the same thing happen to them. The crowd consensus was that the Mountis family does this frequently. I would highly recommend the Route 66, the cheesesteaks were good, the onion rings were BANGING... and... apparently they make a great smash burger. We'll have to grab a pair of those next time we stop in. BUT... do not park in the Mountis/Neptune Diner parking lot. And really, if you're a person of good conscience and good will... do not support them until they fix their desire of greed over human kind and the Lanc. read more

I haven't been here in years. Neptune used to be my hangover cure all ;) Huge portions and fast service. I tend to be very picky about eggs, that said, I did not finish mine. A little too watery and undercooked for my liking. Sausage was mediocre, and satisfactory home fries. All that said, the French toast was delicious. As I was eating, I couldn't put my finger on their "secret" ingredient, I had to ask. Texas toast with almond extract. The almond extract adds so much flavor! I feel like you don't even need syrup. French toast is one of those foods that I really order, but I'm so glad I did! read more

After two visits, I feel confident giving Neptune four stars! The place is small and cozy, like an old-school diner. The floor and menus are a bit tacky, but I'm assuming that's because they deal in foods that get covered in syrup. My first visit, I got a Belgian waffle with blueberries and was very pleased with it. Another person at our table got the waffle with apples, and she said it tasted like apple pie filling but better with lots of cinnamon. On my second visit, I got eggs, toast, potatoes, and bacon. My bacon was very fatty, but cooked well, not too slimy. My dad got corned beef and gravy on home fries and really enjoyed that. At both visits, everyone agreed that their food was good, hearty food. If you're looking for new and innovative takes on breakfast and lunch, this isn't it. But if you're looking for tasty, standard diner fare, you're in the right place. The prices are very fair and the service is good. Both times I visited, we had five people, which is a tight squeeze in their booths, and the wait staff was very accommodating to push tables together. When one of our party ordered the wrong fruit juice (because she's 5 and said "orange" but meant "apple,") the waitress brought a new juice immediately. Service was also pretty quick! read more

Sadly, as much as I love(d) the Neptune our last few visits were disappointing. I understand they hired a new cook a few months back and that might account for some of the inconsistencies, but it's been enough time now that things should have improved. The chips used to be the bomb; freshly made, seasoned, and salted to perfection. Twice recently they were stale and soft, flavorless, and unsalted. Take out has always been flawed but it's even worse now that there's no one in charge on the premises in the evening. The daytime manager acknowledged this is a problem. Not only does it take forever for them to answer the phone, it takes in excess of an hour to get your order even when they're empty inside. I'd like to say this was one isolated incident but sadly it's not. The food is just not the same. Not only the chips but other dishes that we ordered frequently. Some sandwiches are missing ingredients and you have to bring it to their attention. Recently I ordered a Pittsburgh salad for carry out that had meat that was basically inedible. I immediately called and was told no one could help me because there wasn't anyone of authority in house. The least they could have done was offer to make me another but they didn't even offer that! The next day when I contacted the daytime manager she was appalled. Even more so when I showed her the picture of the meat I was served. She immediately refunded my card..... but still I was disappointed - I was craving that salad all day! No complaints on dine in service thankfully as most of the wait stay have been there awhile. I hope, especially since they openly recognize the problems, that they can get back on track and become one of our local favorites once again. read more

First off, This is your typically diner stlye resturant. I have been to so many diners, but i found Neptune on TV Food Maps. It was good, but adverage. Serive was great but still nothing to write home about in terms of the food. I had a bacon and cheese omletet the bacon was way over cooked and I had to pick it out. The staff were the bomb! So friendly, sweet, I know they are known for their meatloaf but they close at 2 PM. Who wants to eat meatloaf from 6am-2PM? read more

If you're hungover, still reeling from the effects of alcohol, the Neptune Diner isn't a bad spot to be. The late night experience here is awesomely random. It wasn't overly crowded when I was there, and a partygoer even tossed their cookies in the back of the restaurant (the vigilant staff mopped the floor up) and we got to watch a diner get carried to the restroom. Asking around for recommendations, an older gentleman in the front of the diner recommended a burger. In the back, a guy (part of a group of younger folks) said he was going to order Belgium waffles with ice cream. Looking at the menu, some items looked pricey (for a diner), but luckily the Hometown Special ($3.75) wasn't. The special came with two eggs (I had mine made sunny side up), hash browns, and toast (got white bread), I added greasy sausage links ($2) and a glass of orange juice (~$1) to wash it all down. For a small place, service was curiously absent at times. Our server (Jenny) was friendly, got me hot sauce, and checked up on us after our orders came (they came out quickly). We paid in the front (since it didn't seem like she was going to return right away), and a hostess was able to process our order. Neptune isn't the best diner EVER, but they're open late and they'll feed you on the cheap. Recommended. read more

When we found out they were only open limited hours and were currently closed we decided to just take a walk around the block . Upon our return we found our car to be towed away! Although my husband's Greek Scramble was a 3 Star meal, my Eggs Ah La Neptune was worth 5 stars plus. When our favorite meatloaf stop was closed for a winter break we were devastated. Came here to try the meatloaf which was featured on the Travel Channel. It wasn't bad. Just not great. It had hot pepper flakes which was unexpected and odd. Strong beef gravy which was a bit overwhelming for my taste.
