First of all, the restaurant is in a brick lined basement, so it is LOUD LOUD echoey & LOUD. I had…read morehigh hopes at the beginning because we got a lovely corner table and the ambience seemed nice. But I already knew which oysters I wanted to order because I could hear easily from across the room the choices from another table. But within 15 minutes of our seating, they seated a table of eight loud people right next to us while the rest of the 100 seat restaurant was completely empty on a Tuesday. Confused me. I know for sure that I had put on my reservation that this was an anniversary dinner, but I guess that wasn't noted or important to this restaurant. That's OK it's our first visit. First impressions I guess aren't important. Luckily, I had a paper napkin in my purse, and I was able to wad it up and put it in my ears: that helped decrease the noise level. My husband is lucky for him very hard of hearing, and he just can turn down his hearing aids. Our dozen oysters were delicious; and the mignonette was very good. Again raising my hopes. My husband's "Cha Muy Buena" cocktail was tasty for him; alas there were not any interesting vodka martini variations for me and my dirty martinis were barely adequate over the course of the night--slightly soiled maybe. My husband was also happy with his hot lobster roll. For my anniversary dinner I was really looking forward to a nice steak but alas, I was not interested in paying $65 for 6 ounces of Waygu; so I settled for your Belvi bao bun rip-off, which was fine and by the time it came out, I was so hungry I devoured it. And then for dessert: I was so excited to get the cheese course because I saw you had the Humboldt Fog! And I figured you could not mess this up! And my husband loves a good port which he was able to order the Grahams 30 year (but wow? no 40 year ports? hmm) 30 minutes later: I mean, I guess you had to bake the bread to go with the cheese??? I can't imagine what else would take that long. Except again that you have one server for 100 seat restaurant on a Tuesday night and there's 35 people in it. I guess I need to plan my anniversaries on different nights. Or buy better fire suppression for Josephine's because I don't ever wanna give my anniversary up to anybody else again!!!!

While I was perusing the very long drink menu a guy set up and was playing music live! My cocktail was very good! As was my lobster roll which kind of surprised be being from New England myself! We would call it a Connecticut style roll more than New England. I don't usually order dessert but I had a hankering so I got the Texas brown sugar cake. I would say there was too much topping but it was tasty.

Music isn't the issue, it's other loud tables that drown out conversation. We love the music and atmosphere but it's a bit uncomfortable. For visitors - it's a theme/gimmick bar, a lot of fun. However, the food & drink is the real surprise here! It's absolutely phenomenal. Best smash burger I've ever had. Best fries. Best veggie sandwich. It's simple, yet top quality. The drinks - the shots - locked in my memory forever! Plus the music selection has always been on point for the theme. Best in the county. Overall - so why not 5 stars? This bar is a must. I want to spend more time there drinking and hanging out. It's just missing some comfort features that prevents that. It's a small space so business wise it makes sense. I'm a little selfish wanting to spend more time there, but with more personal seating options. Owner(s) Help make this a 5 star and hear me out! Far from a 3.8 rating. I would offer some type of help/investment if needed.

It's much more extensive than I expected for a bar. While the food isn't necessarily the star of the show, it's solid and pairs well with the drinks. We ordered the kimchi fries, which made for a great snack to share The cocktail menu is the real highlight. There are plenty of creative drinks with clever goth-inspired names, including the signature Death Mix. Everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere that matched the fun energy of the bar If you're in the area, this spot is absolutely worth checking out. Between the unique theme, creative cocktails, and great hospitality, it's a memorable experience that's a refreshing change from the usual neighborhood bar!

Once inside, you will immediately get the speakeasy vibe with the moody and dark decor, as well as the period appropriate lighting and seating options. There's some small intimate areas, as well as a main bar, a side seating bar area, and a back area with tables and chairs. I would recommend reservations. You can pick the bar or lounge when making reservations on their website. From the moment you enter, you will get terrific service. The host was great and we were early for our reservation, but we were seated at the bar as requested. As soon as we sat down, the bartender greeted us with waters and a sample of a bourbon punch. The entire visit was filled with very attentive staff who were always friendly and knowledgeable about the offerings on the menu. The drinks are well thought out and very good. The quality of the ingredients, as well as the flavor profiles work well. It is very difficult to pick from their crafty menu. We tried a total of 4 drinks and all were delicious. Highly recommend the Papucho - such an excellent mix of flavors that are well balanced and a very unique flavor. Honestly, not sure you will find one drink on this menu that isn't delicious. They do offer a menu of various foods. We ordered the octopus and the roasted monk fish. Both were fantastic. The servings are not big so be prepared to order dental dishes or just come with the intention of not getting a massive meal. They are good portions for a small dinner or think tapas. Overall, they have a fabulous experience with some super delicious drinks. Well done!

Our server was amazing (I wish I remembered his name!), the food was delicious, and the drinks never fail to impress. The only issue we have every time we go is that they unfortunately always run out of a few dishes on the menu (and always seems to be the ones we want)! In addition, calling the restaurant has been difficult, it has often gone straight to voicemail for me. For that reason make sure to make reservations ONLINE (that has never failed). Come EARLY if you want to ensure you'll get a menu item (we often get there around 8 pm or later, some menu items always run out for us). Regardless, this doesn't stop us from coming!

Another very overdue review (kindergarten teacher life! ), but this one is especially special…read morebecause Bert and the Elephant became part of our wedding story long before our wedding day. About a year before our wedding, my husband and I were exploring Lancaster as a potential wedding location. While walking down the street, I spotted a giant pink elephant. For those who don't know me, Delirium is my all-time favorite beer, and its logo is a pink elephant, so of course, it immediately caught my attention. When we walked inside, and I realized it was a Belgian beer bar and restaurant, I was absolutely ecstatic. Bert, the owner, noticed how excited we were, and we started talking. Bert is incredible! He is so knowledgeable about all of his different beers and cares about every single detail. He even has a different glass for almost every beer because, to him, the details matter. But what really stood out was how he treats people. Bert makes you feel like family. Before we left that day, he even gifted me a little ceramic pink elephant straight from his decor. I was absolutely giddy, and I still have that little elephant proudly displayed in my home today. I knew right then and there that we had to have our after-party at Bert and the Elephant. And we did! We were able to rent out the entire place for two hours after our wedding. We had an open bar for the first hour and delicious finger foods for a late-night snack. I'm sure you're thinking, "That must have been insanely expensive," but it wasn't! And it was the perfect location, right down the street from our hotel, so everyone could walk there easily. Our wedding day fell during a heatwave, and unfortunately, the heat definitely affected how many people could make it to the after-party. Everyone was exhausted from the day, but Bert and his staff still made sure that everyone who came had an amazing time. They were welcoming and attentive, making the night feel so special. Bert and the Elephant turned out to be the perfect way to end our wedding night. What started as a random pink elephant catching my eye on a walk through Lancaster turned into one of my favorite wedding memories. We are so grateful to Bert and his staff for helping us end the night with great drinks, delicious food, and even better memories.

The bar stayed open until after 11:00 PM, allowing us to enjoy the entire game. The bar offers a cocktail menu as well as a curated selection of Pennsylvania craft beers. I tried the Stable 12 Fresh Picked Strawberry Lime sour beer ($7.50 for a 13 oz. pour). It was flavorful, slightly sweet, and a nice change from the usual beer options. The bartenders were attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout the evening.
