So this place is an absolute must try! The fried chicken is crave worthy, do not waste your time with any other local establishment or chain if that is the dish you need in your life. Call ahead, pick up at the window and pay their completely reasonable prices. The subs are good, the chicken is better. Don't forget to order extra so you have leftovers. Order by # of pieces, white, dark or a mixture and you're welcome! They will provide you with sides of hot sauce, it's nothing special, probably Frank's if I'm being honest. This place gets 5 stars because of their fried chicken. That's it. Needed a late bite and saw this place on the map - there's a bouncer who opens the door and checks your ID before you go in. Asked him what he recommended and all he said was "FRIED CHICKEN!" Like other reviews mentioned, this place attracts an odd crowd at night but the staff behind the counter were friendly. I live a few blocks away and this is my favorite place to get a quick bite. For daylight hours they just have a small window to order from in person or over the phone. At 8pm I believe they open up their indoor dining but thats for the bar and night life with loud music. Food is great especially for the prices. The fried chicken sandwich is my favorite and it's a great deal. In general the chicken is fantastic. And of course the subs are great too. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the burgers but everyone just goes there for the chicken. The employees are kind and build relationships with their customers. I found this place on Yelp during a family visit to Lancaster for my son's AAU basketball tournament at Spookynook. My hubby and I walked here from our Airbnb rental on Queen Street (a very hilly but short walk). I saw people sitting outside on their rowhome stoops, reminiscent of my days living in Camden (but Lancaster City is much much cleaner and less "hood"). The Prince of Subs is unlike any establishment I've ever seen... from the carry-out window that serves people outside from the side of the building facing Prince Street to the counter inside where the owner will mix up the perfect frozen concoction or the best cheeseburger sandwich north of the Mason-Dixon. Or better yet, get your packaged goods to-go! The only thing that this 'fine' establishment is missing is an old school juke box and a pool table. Note to owner: add that and it's a wrap! After checking the reviews me and my lady stopped by The Prince of Subs to try both (sub and chicken). I'm from Philly so I hold my hoagies to high regard. This place has some of the best food in Lancaster. The street parking situation is hit or miss depending on when you go but it's worth it! I had a half dozen wings which is more like a dozen considering their size. I ordered the hot with blue cheese and they were perfectly cooked and had great heat and flavor. I also had a large cheese steak with onions which probably could've been 2 meals. Definitely the best cheesesteak I've had in the area outside of Philadelphia! They play a price game. I asked for full price of a sub, he said $7.70 including tax. Then he says around $9.90 including tax. So I say which is it ? Then he says I'am raising his blood pressure. So I said I'll help that problem. Cancel the order. They ripped me the night before for almost $40.00 for two subs $7 for 4pc chicken. And two cheese fries. He said my Yelp prices were old. Their all raising prices without advertising the real prices. I will never spend my money there again. Stop the slick price gouging. Good chicken. Could do better with their sauce though. Not a family friendly place. They have a certain type of crowd that come here. Order took very long to cook. When attempting to inquire orders for parties, they are very reluctant for you to buy their wings. I can't speak for the complains from the other review--all I know is that Prince of Subs gives you a helluva lot of chicken for the price. Not just in terms of pieces, but the amount of meat ON the pieces. Add some hot sauce and it's mmm-mmm excellence. Greasy? Yes. But it is fried chicken, you know? Much better than KFC. Quite a bit better than that fried chicken place on the corner of King and Orange (what's it called? King Fried Chicken? Crown Fried Chicken? I dunno--expensive and mediocre.) It's been a few years since I've actually been inside Prince of Subs (yay, to-go window!) but the last time I was in they were still a smoking establishment. People tend to go there, buy beer, and smoke. Unless you're dying for a place to eat food, drink beer, and smoke, you'll probably want to take your food to go. They have a four or five taps, if memory serves, in addition to a six-pack fridge. Can't remember what the selection was like but I think there was a micro or two on tap and a small selection in the six-pack section. read more
