I am overly protective of my Carson, as he is both a service animal and my little furry friend. When he needs some time to go be a dog with other dogs, or we need a place for him to go when we leave and can't take him, we like to have a place scouted out in preparation. Our first time using Lucky Dog was when we moved here, and didn't think it was wise having Carson underfoot while the movers were in and out of the house. Carson had a great time, and made friends with another short and nervous dog, and they had a grand time tentatively adventuring together. The second time we used Lucky Dog, we had a day trip and were taking the ferry, for which I didn't need Carson's services. Once again he had a fun time, and they even sent me a video of him and photos of him with his Corgi buddy. We have scheduled Carson to stay with Lucky Dog over the holidays, and I feel confident he will be happy and safe there. The staff is friendly and it's obvious they love dogs, and the location is safe, secure, and super clean. Laurie and her husband have been so helpful and nice, and their online scheduler makes these things so easy. Prices are competitive, and there is something for everyone. There's daycare, boarding, wedding support and more. There's the house for boarding guests to feel at home, and individual rooms in the back for dogs who just need a little time alone or are not neutered. This place is so great, I just wish there was a place like Lucky Dog everywhere we move! read more

I feel so lucky that we found Laurie and her team at Lucky Dog to watch my sweet pup over Labor Day. It matters to me where I board my dog, and I won't settle for just any space. I want my dog to be cared for and to have fun if he can't be with me. Not only did my dog have a BLAST at lucky dog but I felt like all the staff at Lucky Dog loved on my pup the whole time he was there. I loved that they not only took top notch care of him, but also loved having him around. It really made me feel so happy. I appreciate that Laurie sent me updates while we were away so that I knew what our guy was up to. I also found their online booking tool well organized, thorough, and easy to use. My dog takes several supplements at each meal but I felt like there was an easy to use platform to get the information across about what he needed at each meal. My husband and I are newly married and we adopted a house pony last winter. Our new giant puppy, Klaus, is everything to us and we haven't spent time away from him. We are the three musketeers going everywhere together. I'd gotten news that my husband and I needed to spend some time out of town for some medical appointments and it would be too long to leave Klaus in his crate, and what if we were stuck longer in traffic or needed to extend our stay? My husband did exhaustive research about in-house pet sitting, daycare and boarding services in the area and came up with Lucky Dog Resort. We decided that lucky dog was the best fit for us because we could leave him for a day if we'd ever need to drop him off while we are out running errands or leave him overnight if we needed to travel. All of their options seemed to work for us for any anticipated needs. We couldn't be more thrilled with their staff, facility and services. When we drop Klaus off at their gate he is SO EXCITED to be there. The staff greets us and reviews his typical daily schedule, food and sleeping habits with us. They have crating options and snuggling options and make sure to note when your dog typically eats and how much. There are often many, many things to worry about on a given day and Lucky Dog Resort has taken one worry from our list - we no longer worry that Klaus is happy and safe when he's not with us. They send us mid-day photos and videos and his doggie smile is enough to prove how happy he is to be running around with friends. Their team is reinforcing his training and good behaviors and best of all, he comes home from daycare EXHAUSTED - he's run and played and gotten rubbies all day long. LACKS APPROPRIATESAFTEY PROTOCOLS AGAINST DOGS THAT BITE. Due to having foot surgery, we sought out a doggie daycare for our 12month old Great Pyrenees, Elmore. We were excited to learn that he could join the pack-and on short notice! When we asked to tour it became clear that to do so would be an inconvenience for the owner Laurie. But we were grateful to get him into a place that had such a positive reputation online. After maybe 4 days of our pup attending Lucky Dog we received a text message saying Elmore had been bitten on the face. It said he was fine with only a little scratch on his mouth. I was concerned so my partner picked Elmore up. He was limping. He had a 2 inch open slash on his face. It was evident from missing fur patches and other scratches, that the bite ran from above his eye, knicking his under eye and ended at the mouth. Reading the incident report was even more upsetting. It stated that "Elmore was casually walking around...when Dog X latched onto Elmores face". It was also time stamped to have happened 2 full hours before we were notified. How heartbreaking?! I immediately called the owner Laurie who said, "Well your boy is loud, things like this happen" she went on to tell me that this is "normal pack behavior ". I asked Laurie what the protocol os for unprovoked aggressive dog bites that break the skin. She said they give the biter a timeout, but no other changes would be made. I asked if Elmore returned the next day and unprovoked bit another dogs face, drawing blood, he'd be able to stay in the pack? She said yes. I expressed how unsafe that is and cancelled my remaining scheduled days there. Laurie was very abrasive and seemed very uncaring about Elmores injury. She yelled, "I said Id pay the vet bill and Im sorry, what else do you want from me?!" Umm Laurie, I want you to at least pretend that you CARE that our puppy was hurt in your care. Hours later I received a ranting text message from the owner Laurie stating that she is ovetworked and doesn't have time for self-care. So THAT happened! The 2 stars are for the loving staff. But I cannot recommend this place as it is UNSAFE and the owner is unstable. Puppies beware! read more

Above and beyond, and then beyond again. We have boarded our two Huskies (Ally and Zelda) at Lucky Dog several times. They love it there and always come back relaxed and happy. The team at Lucky Dog clearly loves them, knows them, and has taken some amazing pictures of them and shared them with us. This past visit, however, went from just great to life-saving. Shortly after the dogs got there, one of the staff noticed that Zelda wasn't acting herself: she was lethargic, having difficulty breathing, and running a fever. Elaine contacted us immediately and went with her to the vet. She stayed with her there for the initial diagnosis. When the local vet referred Zelda to a hospital, Laurie took Zelda there herself, stayed with her through the intake process, and spoke with us by video-chat so that we could see how Zelda was doing. Even after Zelda had been admitted and we were back home, Laurie stayed in touch, genuinely concerned about how Zelda was doing. (After two days of hospitalization in the ICU for pneumonia, Zelda is safely back home and reunited with her sister.) Laurie, Elaine, and the rest of the team at Lucky Dog clearly care for Zelda as a lot more than just a "client." They know our dogs well enough to know and notice when something isn't right. And they went the extra mile to ensure Zelda got life-saving care and we stayed fully informed. We are incredibly grateful. read more

It's shocking to me how our dog's visit went after so many 5 star reviews here. We had an awesome experience with our wedding concierge service for our dog, but from the encounter we had at drop off and pick up, this completely ruined the experience here and it seems like we had some bad luck. We had two girls greet us at the door basically blocking us from entering and said "sorry for the construction going on" ... I understand this isn't a 5 star resort and they have a policy, but how do you not have basic customer service skills when working in this business? How hard is it to say "hey, welcome! you can hand me the leash and we'll take your dogs food. We're happy to answer any questions." We had the most uncomfortable welcome as the two girls just stared at us almost like we were bothering them, and I had to take action as the paying customer to ask what we do with our dog, the food, etc.? So we finally head out the door and hope things would go well, and we got one "report card" about our dog the entire Weds-Sun stay we booked. I certainly didn't get a warm welcome and had some major concerns as we headed off to our wedding, and continued to stress about it on my wedding weekend. My dog was fed 1 can a day here, and he is an 80 pound male golden retriever who gets 4 cans a day. How is this okay? We filled out all the (endless) paperwork, verbally said several times "4 cans a day - you can feed him all of the food we gave you".. we did our homework, and they failed theirs. Fast forward to pick up day, the employee that gives us our dog back basically handed him off with a bag full of food and said "he wasn't that hungry." My dog looked skinnier than ever. Big red flag. I had major questions as to why there was so much food left, and it was because they decided to note that my dog only needed one can of food a day? So was that the employees' way of covering up? My dog is an eater, and he was absolutely underfed and that is unacceptable for the money we paid. I find it extremely concerning that several dog professionals didn't question this "1 can a day" mistake and either call us directly, or question it amongst themselves? Why would we give you a bag full of food, tell you to use all of it, and you decide to note he gets fed 1 can a day? If he wasn't hungry or being odd, how hard was it to call us 10 minutes down the road? It's baffling to me that someone working in the pet industry can't also see on the food can, how much the dog should be fed and say "I think we made a mistake, let's fix this." They seem to care more about all their strict cookie cutter rules, rather than actually properly caring for the dog. My advice to this place would be to take a step back on your strict rules all over your website, and between your employees. It's not a good look. Let your customers in the door for more than 5 seconds and give them a run down on how things work. Maybe you should encourage your team to cross check each other's work too, so that this doesn't happen to another dog. We left extremely upset after our wedding and right before our honeymoon, and it very much was not appreciated. read more

My dog is anxious at regular kennels, won't eat or drink & is seriously exhausted. At LD she had a blast and was not upset ever. She at, drank, played with the other dogs and lounged a lot. These are table stakes in my book, a service that has all of this is one that exudes professionalism, and tends to deliver a quality service. Lucky Dog Resort fits that bill. I used Lucky Dog for their wedding concierge service and overnight boarding, and plan to go back and use them for day care or boarding again! I was impressed before I even dropped my dog off. Laurie was responsive and organized, and in her interactions, she really demonstrated that she cared about all the details, no matter how small. She has this online portal which you load all your information and do your booking and communication through - super impressed by that; and we met over Zoom (during the pandemic) to discuss the wedding and my pup, and she was just so attentive and didn't miss a beat. I was impressed even more during drop off - they have a super streamlined drop off / pick up process (with lots of clients - they definitely have a loyal customer base, because they are that good) and I got a glimpse of the property that is the Lucky Dog Resort. So nice! I had no worries leaving my dog, who is my everything, there. Laurie brought my pup to the wedding for the ceremony and photos, and she was fantastic! She made sure my dog looked at the camera and behaved during the ceremony, and had water and treats, and his favorite squeak toy, for him. I didn't have to worry about a thing! Was visiting the area this past weekend and looked into doggy day care to keep my dog, Bailey occupied on Saturday. I had several conversations with Laurie, who was very pleasant and answered all my questions. I provided all of Bailey's updated vaccinations and was set to drop her off Saturday around 9am-4pm. When I dropped Bailey off Staff was super friendly and told me there would be 12 dogs in daycare today. @130 I decided to pick up Bailey before heading out for the day so I wasn't rushing to pick her before they closed. When I arrived the staff member seemed puzzled and confused. "I thought you were going to pick her up at 4?!?" I explained I wanted to get bailey before heading downtown and didn't want to rush before they closed. He then stated he would be right back and went into the dog play area, returning without bailey. "I forgot we had to put her in one of these rooms because she was focused and barking at this other dog." He walked over to the right side of the entrance and I followed him into an area where bailey was in a small enclosed room similar to a boarding area. I saw no other dogs in these single enclosed areas. I asked if Bailey even got to play with any other dogs to which he replied, "maybe 20 minutes." My husband was so infuriated when we returned home he called, in which we spoke to another staff member who told us "Bailey was just being put down for a nap." Also explaining the other staff member was new and didn't know what he was talking about. I'm so beyond thankful I came to pick her up early or my sweet girl would've been in a small enclosed area by herself for the remainder of the day. Her excuses is that she is "over worked" for everything. When I got my dog back she seemed very timid and stand offish. Ive brought her to other dog daycares so this is very unusual. I asked around about her, I got a lot of feedback but what stuck out was that she's rumored to kick/mistreat the dogs. The dogs safety is not her first interest. I was really excited to start sending my pup to Lucky Dog, but can honestly say that the enrollment process was so unpleasant that I will take my business elsewhere. I had created an online profile for my pup complete with vaccine records, documentation that she was spayed, and her microchip number. I then called to schedule a meet and greet, but was told that there was one piece of documentation missing. I asked if I could schedule the meet and greet, and stop by the vet on my way to have the paper in my hand and upload into the system. I was told that it is the policy to have all records uploaded online at least 12-24 hours prior in case they were "processing other dogs". Just to clarify, I was not trying to show up without my final piece of information, but wasn't even allowed to schedule an appointment. When I asked if there was someone else I could speak with, sure that the girl I was speaking with didn't understand what I was asking, I was told no. For a small business on an island where news travels fast, I was disappointed to see that another review I had read stating the same opinion was my experience as well. read more

When I came to pick him up, along with my mom's dog who also stayed the same amount of time - we were met by Laurie in the yard and it was unfortunately not the best exchange. We had just gotten married, and were really excited to see the Resort, and to pick up our pup. We were met with an anxious Resort owner who was abrupt, and couldn't wait to get paid an extra $75 and get our dogs off her hands. I was so disappointed because I had read and heard such good things about the Resort, however thanks to the awful customer service we received when picking up our boys - we won't be returning. Such a shame.. Never once received an update on how my dog was doing, or how he was when I picked him up. I wasn't even invited in to see where my dog and his friend had just spent the weekend. We booked this service for our wedding, and Laurie was very helpful during our wedding ceremony and took great care of our dog. We asked multiple times at the wedding about pickup, and she never said we needed an appointment so we followed the email that said pickup before noon. When we showed up "unannounced" (her words) she gave us so much attitude, she was such a different person than the day before. I ended up picking up my dog and my sister's dog (who was supposed to stay for another night) because I didn't feel comfortable leaving them in her care. I'm not one to write reviews, but customer service is everything. She seemed overwhelmed and overworked, not someone I want to be watching my dog. Not to mention every single dog was barking when we got there. I would not recommend this place as I have never been treated so horribly in my life. We had just gotten married, she didn't even say congratulations! The appointment part was an oversight on our part, but as newly weds I would expect her to not give us an immense amount of attitude when we missed the "appointment" part of pickup before noon. She also couldn't wait to charge us extra for an early pickup. read more

We submitted all the paperwork 24hours prior to the reservation and they wait until 30 minutes prior to inform us of their 4month fecal policy when we had ours done 4months and 13 days prior. Overall this place was good. Staff was friendly. My dog seemed well taken care of. I took away 1 star because they seem too focused on internet based stuff and less personal interaction. I listed a 12pm pickup time on my reservation. I picked up my dog at 1230 and was charged a $33 late pick up fee. I called the manager and she stated that after the clock hits 12, the computer charges you a day boarding fee. No one went over this at check in. It does state it on their website, but there is so much information on the sites. There are a ton of hidden fees you need to be aware of. I have boarded at other places and they always go over rules and clarify check out at check in. Would I board there again....yes, but I may check out a place that is more personable. It's hard to find a place/people that will care for your pet they way you'd like, and even more difficult to find a place that follows that with good business practices. Lucky Dog has both. From the moment we dropped our pup off for the initial greeting, we felt we were in great hands with Laurie. She is super responsive to messages, flexible with drop-off/pickup times, and isn't out to make a buck. She truly loves what she does and it's evident. The entire staff goes out of their way to answer my (probably neurotic) questions and always provides me with a report on my pup at the end of the day. I HAVE NEVER YELPED BEFORE but I would be doing dog owners a disservice if I didn't sing Lucky Dog Resort's praises. Laurie is welcoming and accommodating to both the owner and the dog. I was actually excited to leave my dog at LDR for our vacation knowing he'd have a "doggy vacation". The fact that the dogs interact with each other in a controlled and supervised environment all day, instead of MAYBE 20 minutes a day is a plus as is the fact that they have puppy nap time in the YOGA ROOM. There are more than ample outdoor runs and play yards for the dogs to run instead of standard small chain link runs at many kennels. During our trip we got texts to let us know how our dog was doing. I cannot say enough about our peace of mind due to leaving Buck at LDR in Middletown RI. We were referred to Laurie by a South County vet's office and am so glad I took their advice! read more
