My pup is always HAPPY to visit for day care. The staff and owner are beyond watchful,kind,and caring with all the dogs. They always greet and say farewell very sweetly to every dog. You can see the caregivers calm fun interactions with the groups of dogs from a safe window. This gives you the owner chance to see all the different beautiful pups that are playing and socializing together. I really can't thank each individual and the whole team enough for taking such great care of my pup, I love so very much. I sometimes feel I rely on them too often. But when you have a place as good,clean, and wonderfully watchful as Gnarly Dog; I am simply more than grateful that the help and care are there for us. these people have no prices posted. Also not on website. Foolishly, I assumed a grooming included a bath. Not so. They have what I would call an ala cart menu. I told them that the dog received a pretty bad haircut, therefore I was switching groomers. Total waste of money! Is it even legal to not post prices? Not returning again. Deeply, deeply disappointed that they did not listen to me - It's not a one-star review only because I can't vouch for short-haired dog grooming. I am writing this review after I've had time to cool down. I had three conversations with this place about the first time cut for my Bernedoodle. I made it clear TWO TIMES that if they did not cut enough, I would not hold it against them, I wanted to preserve his beautiful coat, just trim it to get him through the summer comfortably. I specifically said I wanted to keep his Bernedoodle look. I had even cut a small portion out myself to give them a "marker" to go by. By the way, I brush this dog every day. They called me when they started and said he was matted where the harness goes on him. I knew this was true. I gave them permission to cut below the matting, but again stressed that I didn't want him shaved. My dog came back to me shaved down to about 1/4" coat! HE LOOKS RIDICULOUS. I asked them to preserve the hair on his head, and his beard, meaning, don't cut it; didn't happen. Honestly, I would have MUCH PREFERRED if they had said to me, we can't do what you want. MUCH PREFERRED. Yes, it will grow back. But IF YOU HAVE A LONG-HAIRED DOG, I think you need to find an outfit which will take the time to do it right. I can't speak to the daycare but would never take my dog there for grooming again. I really think my 6 year old granddaughter could do a better job. We finally found a place willing to try and fix what they did to him but it is going to take several weeks. He had a bald spot from the razor and the rest was uneven everywhere. Boarded our dog in January and got a really good vibe of the place. We brought him in a few times before to make sure he'd play and get along with the other dogs. Picked him up this morning, after staying over all day yesterday and the night. Got a different vibe from the place. They guy we interacted with the other times was friendly and seemed very knowledgeable. This time was different. The girl seemed confused and it was all super rushed to drop him off. To pick him up, she couldn't get him to come and my bf went into the back to get him. He is limping and has a scab on his face, so he was clearly bleeding at some point. Thought it was weird and concerning that nothing was mentioned. This recent experience left a bad taste in our mouths and we won't be returning. Looking into dog vacay or rover for future boarding needs. read more

Dropped my dog off for daycare for a week, first couple of days were fine. 3rd day when came to pick her up she was in isolation, guess she was not good with another dog. Asked if was OK to bring back next day, was told yes. Next day had them also give her a bath. When picked her up was told she needed to be put in isolation again but did not say why. When I got her home I noticed a bunch of bruising on her stomach, if something happened I wish I would have been told. Will not be going back. I understand my dog is not mellow, she is 2. But I just wish they would have let me know what happened. I think they take too many dogs. read more

Our dog is almost 15 years old. We needed a place for her to go on Thanksgiving weekend, as our daughter could not sit for her. We found the Gnarly Dog. We liked the fact that our dog had a trial hour or so to see if there was a good fit. We left our dog for 5 days. When we picked her up, she was so happy and energetic. I think she liked the play area outside, and the place where she slept/rested. We were pleased. We even received a picture of her during our trip, and could call when we wanted. read more

We had Wilma boarded for one night, with one and a half days of daycare/playtime plus grooming. They did a fantastic job with her undercoat, and she got to play in a kiddie pool. I don't think it gets any better than that. read more

I used the facility last summer for daycare for both of my dogs- golden retriever (2.5 years) and shihpoo (4 years). I noticed that each time I brought them, they are exceptionally thirsty as if they could not get enough water and had not drank all day. I just brought them yesterday to test my theory because I like taking them to daycare while I am at the beach. I even told the boy who took my dogs back to make sure they drink water because they "forget to drink". Sure enough, I picked them up 4 hours later and I placed a water bowl in front of them and they both drank as if they had not had water all day. I asked the young girl who brought us the dogs if they know where the water bowls were and all I got was a simple "yes"-no concern for my pets and thankfully it was not super hot outside. I also pulled up to the front door noticing that the front door was propped open with a rock. What if an animal escaped as the owner was waiting for them in the small, front lobby. The main road is busy as it is a major route in Rhode Island. If its hot in the small, front lobby, either get air condition or use a fan. If it is that hot up front, I cannot imagine what it is like for those poor dogs in the back areas. Also, last summer, during one of my last visits of the year, the fencing they use indoors to separate the dog areas started falling down and dogs started escaping to other areas. I figured this year it would be fixed. Low and behold, the fencing units are now held up with rope. Sure, thats real sturdy for the big dog area when you have 15- 75lb dogs jumping on it. read more

We had our 10 month old golden doodle Jules boarded at Gnarley Dog for 5 nights. This was our first time leaving her for that long. We looked at a few other boarding kennels, and didn't like the concrete construction of these places, or that Jules would mostly be alone for the duration of our trip. When we visited Gnarley dog and saw that all the dogs got to hang out and play inside/outside together all day. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The sleeping situation seemed much better than at the concrete kennels too. After we picked up Jules, it was clear she was well exercised while she was at Gnarley Dog as she was passed out within a few minutes into the car ride home and has been napping for the first few days home. I didn't know what to expect when we took our daughter's dog to The Gnarly Dog. She is a rescue dog that has not been kenneled since she came into our home. She hadn't done so well with our initial crating experience. From the first phone call to the "meet-n-greet," we felt very comfortable leaving her. Koko did very well, and the staff was very pleasant anytime we called to "check" on Koko. On the way home, we could tell this normally active, nutty dog was all worn out. We've been home a few hours now, and Koko is still sleeping. Thank you for taking such good care of her! We will be back! read more

we absolutely LOVE the gnarly dog (as does my english bull dog!) In the morning I say 'who's going to go to the gnarly dog?!' and she goes bananas. (the proof is in the pup). So clean, friendly and accommodating. They don't even mind when you call on your lunch break to check on your pup.
