I had to board my 2 dogs there last July and I didn't have to jump through hoops and red tape to get it done. I was coming from out of State so I didn't have a chance to "temporarily" board them as other kennels required. I am at a complete loss as to the caregiver at Delmyra Kennels. I have taken my German Shepard and Westie to Delmyra's twice in the past 6 months. Both times my Dogs were boarded for a full week. The first time I picked them up my Shepard had swelling and a very large growth coming out the side of his mouth. I took him to the Vet, was given medication as well as a follow up visit. He has never had any mouth issues and hasn't since. I gave Delmyra Kennels the the benefit of the doubt on how they could possibly not notice his mouth. Although concerned about the care they were receiving. Once again I boarded the Dogs at Delmyra's again for a full week. I pick my Dogs up and my Shepard's mouth is bleeding on my car seat and NO ONE noticed at Delmyra's again?? What in the world is going on back in those sound proof Kennels? And why doesn't anyone notice this growth on the side of his mouth is bleeding. I left explicit instruction to call my Vet immediately if the Dogs had any health issues. I spoke to Ruth the Owner who is a very nice lady but... she thinks he bit his tongue on the way home? That absolutely is not the case. I wouldn't be so upset if they would accept ownership for not noticing or offer to reimburse me for my Vet bills. But instead I am practically hung up on and told she sorry? I will not be taking my Dogs back to a Kennel so large with such lackadaisical Staff and attitudes about the health of my Dogs. I expected much better as they do have a very good reputation however once a coincident twice is poor care! read more

Worst kennel ever They almost killed my dog. I researched them through there website and they were rated well. But when I picked her up after a week of vacationing I was horrified to see how sick she was. A temperature of 103.7 ,severely dehydrated, and the worst skin infection I have ever seen. They refused to refund me for the kennel stay because I quote Ruth one of the owners "after all she did stay here". I have since spoken with channel 12 news in hopes they will make this more public. I have also consulted with an attorney to press charges. Update. They will not refund me for almost killing my dog. They decided not to because they said it would be theft of services. STUNNED!!! Delmyra is hands down one of the best kennels in my opinion. I have a dog that has been turned away from many boarding facilities in Rhode Island due to his behavior (he's a dick...but he's cute) and knowing his history, Alice and Ruth were willing to let him board there. They are always so sweet and compassionate with his needs and always offer advice when needed. Very clean facility and Belvedere looks forward to going there whenever I go away. Very friendly people. The check in process was easy. The dog did not seem to be traumatized when we picked him up. To be honest, I think the thing suffers from 'separation anxiety' but he appeared to enjoy his stay. Even the owner came out to talk about their experience with the dog when we can to pick him up. We have been taking our dog to Delmyra Kennels for 9 years and have always been satisfied. Recently when our dog was picked up they told us that she had been sick while in their care (diarrhea). She was not sick when dropped off. There were no phone calls or other communication to let us know there was a problem. When the dog was picked up she smelled and her fur was matted with feces. We do not understand how they could have left our dog in this condition. We contacted them after and they never returned our email. We would not use them again nor would we recommend them. read more

We are very glad we decided to leave our dogs in the loving hands of the folks at Delmyra. We could tell that everyone we met that worked there is a "dog person". They were able to expertly manage both our anxiety and our dogs' anxiety. We were happy that Delmyra was able to accommodate all three of our dogs in one kennel, together, and that they had their own private run. We were encouraged to call as frequently as we liked to check up on them, and were given a personalized account of how each dog fared while we were away. They also groomed all three of our dogs before we picked them up, and it was probably one of the best groomings they have ever had. It's such a relief to know that we have a place where we feel comfortable leaving our dogs whenever we travel in the future. It makes everything that much more enjoyable, knowing that we have nothing to worry about. It seems like there is a constant presence in the kennels, with the entire place being very well staffed, and extremely clean. You can tell immediately when meeting the owners that this kennel is their passion, and that care extends to the dogs and cats that they board. We have had negative experiences boarding our 3 Aussies in the past, where we knew right away when picking them up that they were mistreated. At Delmyra, our dogs didn't want to leave, and one of them even ran around to give hugs to the whole staff before we left. Leaving a pet behind while the family goes and plays is often more traumatic for the human then the animal. I called Delmyra Kennel far in advance to find out if they could take my pet who has some behavioral problems. The owner spent almost 30 minutes with me on the phone talking about what I was looking for and what they could provide me. I was encouraged to come in and visit the kennel during any of their open hours. The kennels are very clean. Each run is separated for your pet and the floors are cooled and heated depending on the time of year. I feel like the kennel was an adequate size for our dog. The cost is very reasonable and since you pay for the drop off day and pickup day you aren't rushing around trying to get your pet in during a short window of time. I was gone for about 10 days and paid a little over $250. I felt like this was more then fair for the service we got. A bonus was 2 weeks after the visit, we received a Thank you card in the mail. Hand written notes are hard to come by and the personal note from the kennel was great!!! read more

Superb grooming: I have been taking my toy poodle to Missy at Delmyra for the last 5 years. Initially he was a little terror, not great with being groomed, wanting to bite. It didn't take long for him to warm up to Missy and permit her to groom and bathe him without issue. We recently adopted an amputee (back leg) pup who needs a little more assistance (balance) when being groomed. Not only does Missy put him at ease but she also manages to give him a spectacular haircut. Both boys leave looking like a million bucks. Thanks so much read more

I left my ~12 year chihuahua-terrier mix rescue here for 13 days while I traveled to Canada. As far as I know, she had never been boarded before. The free overnight visit the week beforehand was wonderful and gave me the confidence that she would be in good hands. And when I picked Maude up after my trip, all was well. We left our dogs here for a week over vacation. Though we were only gone for 5 days, we had to leave them for 8 because of their hours. We decided to go with Delmyra anyway because they were recommended by our vet and their prices were decent. When we picked them up one of our dogs had a bad rash under his arm and on his face. Both of the dogs looked like they had lost weight. On top of the neglect to our animals, the woman at the front desk was curt and unfriendly. We will not be bringing our dogs back! read more

I have boarded my dogs multiple places and have never had any problems. I specifically asked whether the pricing was in and out per day or for a 24 hour period, as I felt the price was expensive and I was charged differently - when I questioned it I was given nothing but attitude. For what I paid I could have sent my dogs to Westport, paid for the hours gas (and time), and my digs would have had daycare as well as boarding. I was very disappointed and I will not bring my dogs there again. read more

We are from Ct and visit Newport frequently. This year, our kennel was booked solid as we made plans to visit later than normal. My daughter suggested that we board "Precious", our 5 year old Brittany, at a kennel around Newport so she could join us for the ride. After a few days of searching the web, we ended up at Delmyra. Upon our arrival, Ruth gave us the grand tour of their facility. The place was as clean as clean could be. No odor other than "clean"!! The rest of the staff was warm and welcomed us to their home. Our Brittany is a rescue and tends to be a bit shy around other dogs. Noting that she a had a tough time adjusting, Ruth took her out and spent some one on one time with her in the office until she became comfortable. After that short adjustment period she was god to go. She only stayed four days and they are located about 25 minutes outside Newport. When we picked her up she was vibrant, powdered up and ready to come home. I would definitely suggest Delmyra to anyone!
