This was just good. The food was tasty, the service was quick and the space was clean an airy. So why only four? There was nothing spectacular about it. Having come from socal where really good American version Chinese food is easy to find, it's easy to be biased. The portions are huge but not fantastic The General Tsos chicken was large pieces of heavily breaded and carmalized chicken Served alone. On a plate. It was strange The Mongolian beef was very good and so were the crab puffs. The hot sour soup was super spicy, be aware. But the egg drop soup had corn in it, which is odd. The staff was polite but not warm. The service felt a bit cold and stiff. Eat your food and then go. Lastly, the egg rolls are humungeous and stuffed with ahrimp. Everything was average, season wise. We stopped in here again for lunch recently, so I figured I'd update my original review. They have very well priced lunch specials, which is nice. The portions are still huge, and we both got full for right around $20. Food was still just ok, it seems this place does quantity over quality, so if you're looking to get a lot of food on the cheap and don't have too high of standards, this is your place. As for our specific meals, I did sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, and pork chow mein. Sweet and sour chicken was decent, fried rice was still on the bland side, and pork chow mein was not good. Nasty little grayish bits of pork (?) on a mountain of bean sprouts. Didn't eat it; wouldn't order it again. Again, this place is ok at best. I have driven by the lucky dragon off the 205 mini times passing through Clemma. I make this truck once a month from Vancouver to Redmond. I have always been curious about it. Today I decided to stop. Many of the elves were positive, with great pictures of good looking food. However today was not my day. I arrived at one minute before 3 o'clock. Lunch was over at three I realize. I was seated right away. Then the server left and did not come back for about nine minutes. When I tried to place my order, off the lunch menu, she said lunch was over at 3 o'clock. I said I understand however I had come in right at three. She said no you're too late and show me her phone. 3:08. I stated that I had been sitting there for about 10 minutes and could I not have the lunch menu anyway? She was very snippy and rude. Told me I was just too late. Since the den her items were more expensive by far and a lot of food, I decided to just leave. Apparently this restaurant would rather have someone leave then accommodate them. Too bad. I will continue to drive by in the future. read more

Something must have changed at this place over the last year. A buddy of mine really raved about this place and said it was better than any Chinese place in Seattle, so we decided to stop by on our way back from PDX. The staff was not very responsive, we had to wave them down to get our order in and to ask for more napkins. When our food came, it was a lot of food, never seen such portions and I was excited since we were all very hungry. But the food just had no taste, it did not taste bad, it was just very very bland. I mean, how can you screw up Mongolian Beef? We only ate about 10% of our meal and I wanted to leave it all behind and not take it with us but my wife was too embarrassed to do that so we took it home but did not eat any of it. read more

We were on our way back from a very long trip, driving back to Olympia, Wa on I-5. My husband and I were getting hungry for lunch but didn't know what we wanted. I kept trying to pick something from the road signs off I-5. We saw the sign for mexican food and said 'eh, what the hell, let's have Mexican food." But as we looked for parking, I spotted some Chinese lanterns and the sign for Lucky Dragon. Immediately, I thought it might just be another buffet style restaurant but I thought I'd give it a chance. My husband was hesitant but we went in anyway. I saw my husband looking at other people's plates and heard him say, "That looks good." The inside looked brand new, booths and tables for larger parties available. We were seated immediately and were handed menus. The front of the menu said something like, "Schezuan, Catonese, Mandarin Chinese Food." I was excited and had high hopes! The menu had plenty of items to choose from. Since we arrived during the lunch hour, we were able to choose something from the specials menu. The specials included a dish of my choice from the 20 something selections, egg flower soup or hot & sour soup, crab won tons, pork fried rice and chow mein. I ordered the shrimp with lobster sauce for my lunch special. My husband ordered General's Chicken. Our tea arrived shortly and so did our soups. Delicious, hot and creamy! Soon after we were done with our soups, our lunch plates arrived. The servings were huge but everything looked hot and delicious. The shrimp with lobster sauce is served in a bowl. The velvety creamy sauce with shrimp comes with peas, mushroom, corn, green onions and garlic. The rice was a little on the dry side but the chow mein was nicely seasoned and stir fried. The fried won tons were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. My husband enjoyed his lunch too. He said he burned the roof of his mouth because he was trying to chow down on the hot crispy & sweet generals chicken. :) I gave him my second won ton since it seemed that he enjoyed it the most. I asked the waitress (who I think might be the owner along with her husband) how old the restaurant was and she said, "5 months." I suggested she open a restaurant closer to Olympia. ;) Maybe I should have begged. Anyway, if I have to drive 1.5 hrs to Kalama for some good Chinese food I will! read more

I avoid eating before making a trip between Portland and Seattle. The food is great, the portions are huge. I ordered the smallest thing on the menu, walnut shrimp, and could not eat it all. In my book, if they can't get those two basic things right...forget the rest and run. At Lucky Dragon, their egg rolls have a very unique texture.it's like a very light crunch over the top of a harder crunch wrap, and the flavor is good. I would definitely order these again. The rice is spot on. I really enjoyed the pork fried rice that came with my meal. The rest of my meal (beef and broccoli and mar far chicken) were great. I have been to a lot of Chinese restaurants from Seattle Chinatown to San Fransisco Chinatown. I would have to say that this is one of my favorites. I travel from Seattle to Portland on a weekly bases and I also try to plan my trips so I drive thru during lunch or dinner hour. The one thing I especially notice about Lucky Dragon is that everything taste so fresh. For the deep fried items the oil does not taste old like they can in other restaurants. The portions are great and you will never leave hungery. I have tried almost everything and I have not been disapointed. The service is alright. They take your order and get you your food. That is all i need. I am not there to make any friends. They don't take American Express so I can't use my business credit card to pay for my meal. I just have to write an expense report to get reimburse. Try this place. You will like it. read more

This is the only place I will eat Chinese food - It is clean and well kept. The servings are always enough for a week of meals. I love the crab puffs. Service is adequate - and this place is always packed on the weekends. The ONLY reasons I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1 is because the service was fast in spite of being during dinner rush, the soup was good, & the sauce in our Entree (BBQ Pork with Vegetables) was really tasty. However, that cannot make up for the bad joke of "BBQ Fried Rice" which was pitiful. We ordered the entree with the additional $1.50 substitution of BBQ fried rice instead of white steamed rice. BF thought they'd delivered the wrong rice. It had a slightly tan colored tinge and was 99% devoid of any recognizable BBQ Pork. I'm talking pieces literally the size of a matchstick head, if that, and very few of them. So few you couldn't even fill up a teaspoon with the collective amount. I waved the waitress over to ask why we can't see any BBQ Pork (or ANY other component beside rice). I told her there wasn't anything you could readily identify as an appreciable amount. She brought out another bowl. The only difference was about 6 pieces of BBQ pork about 1/4" square. Perhaps enough to fill a tablespoon, if that. I thought to myself, you've got to be kidding! Between both dishes there may have been about 5-10 grams (1/4 to 1/2 ounce) of BBQ Pork collectively. What a joke. For THAT, $1.50 extra??!! The vegetables in the entree had far too many large pieces of basically raw green pepper (yuck), and not enough (or cooked enough) good stuff like red bell pepper, broccoli (mostly stalks), carrots and only one tiny mini corn cob. Overall, a very bad value and not worth ever going back to. read more

I am over 60 and have had "American Chinese" food all over the country. I had General Tso's chicken for the first time at a high end Szechuan Restaurant in San Diego. I always thought that it was the best. It was until today! What a fantastic restaurant. The staff were attentive and the service was efficient. All of our food was high quality. We arrived and got sat promptly and got water and ordered tea for the table. The tea never came. We had to flag down someone to get the tea about 20 minutes later. Then we had to ask if someone was actually going to wait on our party because no one ever came to the table. It was very strange because the place got busy after we got there and we sat right in the middle of the room yet it seemed as though we where invisible. The food was just ok, I have definitely had better and the decor in the restaurant was extremely odd. Overall zero stars for service and 2 stars for food. The sweet and sour chicken had perfectly cooked breast meat, thick strips. The only thing I didn't care for was the breading. On the egg roll it was flaky and thin like philo dough on the outer layer and underneath it was a little doughy. On the chicken it was thicker. And when the check was ready to be paid, they were right on it but again didn't ask us about anything. Felt like a turn and burn environment. Maybe it's what we ordered - I had the chicken with vegetables and Nels had chicken with snow peas but they literally looked and tasted the same, coated in a thickened bland sauce. If you have a bad experience at a place I don't feel it's fair to never go back. Ate here about 5 mths ago me & the other person ended up with horrible food poisoning and missing 2-days of work. Decided to try it again this eve my bill (for just me) was $18.88. Got home it is all in the garbage! They don't carry BBQ pork anymore or items made with it like BBQ Pork Lo Mein. I placed the order, waited for it to finish and brought it home to Kelso to eat. Sat down starved to find everything is cold not even slightly warm. The almond chicken subgum, which is my fav dish, had slimmy, snotty chicken that looked like what I trim off a piece of chicj.
