Its been over a year since my last review. I was passing through the Vancouver area on Sunday and decided to stop in for a late lunch (about 2 pm). Kelly greeted and seated me. I promptly gave her my order as I decided what to get on my drive over to the restaurant - papaya salad and drunken noodles with chicken and a Thai iced teas with coconut milk. They passed the test of time! The food was as great as I remembered! And Kelly helped me with my choice of spice level, 4 was perfect to my taste! Thanks Kelly! Standout: Service was excellent during our visit with very attentive workers. I really appreciate the diversity of their menu, as they have highlight dishes from different Asian cultures. My basil fried rice was tasty. Do note that I expected it to be saltier/more flavorful. You can ask them for hot sauce and chili sauce though. Chicken wings were crispy and has fish sauce on the side for dipping. Thai green tea latte was creamy and so good. Chill, cozy vibes inside with "World Market-esque" trinkets. I was seated by the waitress, a young girl in a baseball cap that had her phone on. Total ambience gone. I placed my order of the Panang stew and waited. And waited, while watching my favorite new restaurant became busy with uber eats, and other wonderful drivers waiting. I asked the baseball waitress if my dinner was coming out and I was informed that takeout is a priority for this restaurant. I ordered a white wine and an additional lettuce wrap dish to go. 15 minutes later, three parties sent away in the waiting area. Four delivery people sitting at the entrance, no room for patrons. Today was my husband's 80th birthday and we hosted a dinner for 14 at one of our favorite restaurants, Local Asian Bistro. From the first contact with the staff until the final bite of food, we could not have been more pleased. The food was delicious, as always, and the servers were gracious and welcoming. It was no easy task to serve that many people so many selections from appetizers through the entrees. They even served my husband's favorite cheesecake which they allowed us to bring with us. Great servers, high quality food, good portion sizes and all day happy hour on Sundays! Enjoyed dinner with a friend on Sunday. High quality calamari starter with nice batter and not overdone squid like some places. Chicken teriyaki was tender and good sized portion. Rockfish lettuce wraps had plenty of tasty fish portions over a nice bed of peanuts and diced veggies. Drinks were tasty and didn't skip on alcohol portion. Dinners were served only moments apart (unlike some places) and about our only suggestion would be better temperature control in dining area it was a bit cold. We tried this little bistro for the first time and were impressed with the simple but elegant ambiance as soon as we walked in. The staff came across as warm and friendly and glad we were there. We enjoyed Tom Kha soup with tofu to start, which had a delicious depth of flavor. Next came the entrees: Green Curry with beef and Pad Lee Mao with Chicken. The latter was recommended by our server, who patiently waited as my husband scanned the menu and finally asked for her suggestion. Green curry is one of my favorite Thai curries, but I wasn't that impressed with this one, which is why I can't award 5 stars to an otherwise flavorful meal. Their green curry's sauce lacked flavor and salt. I had to ask for a salt shaker (I could've gotten soy sauce but didn't want it to overpower). The beef seemed to be just thrown in the pot and boiled, rather than sautéed first to achieve a nice sear. It was gray in color. The Pad Lee Mao, on the on the other hand was full of flavor and fresh veggies. I particularly liked the green beans, cooked to perfection. The noodles were wide, which I liked as well. We will come back again to order more things but I think we will avoid the curries. It's a pan-Asian place so maybe they just aren't as good at curry? We got a reservation for 10 yesterday for family and some out of town guests.. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff as usual are very nice and attentive. We ordered several appetizers and the main courses were great! Many in the family are vegetarian so most things can be made with tofu. We do order takeout from there and also eat in too. Such a cute amazing Asian spot that's somewhat hidden but not hard to find. We live in NE Vancouver and went to Hazel Dell to do some shopping at Marshall's and I put in "sushi" in the yelp search bar and this place popped up. Instantly no longer wanted sushi once I saw the menu. We were welcomed and seated right away on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant is cute and can pass as a date night location (any place other than home is a date night location no matter how nice hehehe). Lots of seating and some that can accommodate large parties. The menu has so many options! We had fun looking at the different choices. I went with one of their specials "Bha Mee Tom Kha Noodle" which is an egg noddle dish in this delicious coconut curry broth with notes of sour and umami flavor. If you've been to Khao Moo Dang in Portland, it's somewhat similar just add the sour into it. Finished the entire bowl no issues. Just YUM! They use real crab meat for their crab fried rice. You can never go wrong with a simple wok egg fried rice with crab. I love simplicity- and this was heavenly. We paired that with their fish sauce wings- which was one we questioned since we thought it was going to be sticky wings, but we got deep fried wings that tasted like it was marinated in lemon grass and the sauce served on the side was the fish sauce part. So that was a little weird for us. No complaints here though. We would LOVE to be back and try other menu items. read more

Moved to the area this past summer! Finally had a chance to try Local Asian Bistro. The waitress was so helpful in making recommendations! My cousin was visiting from SoCal where there are many many Asian restaurants to choose from so decided to take her to lunch here to see what she thought. We had an amazing soup made with coconut milk. We also had the green papaya salad which was so light and refreshing! We enjoyed the food so much that we went back for dinner a couple days later! Came in for lunch around noon on a Saturday. Not too busy, only two tables occupied inside. It is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Greeted as we walked in and directed to pick a table. Love the modern decor with cool lamp shades hanging over the dining area and large light bulbs over the bar area. They even have pillows available for customers sitting on the bench seating. After reading through their menu and reading reviews on Yelp, we decided on shrimp salad rolls, calamari and tempura shrimp and vegetables. Everything was delicious! The salad rolls were fresh, and we loved the cucumber wedges. The peanut sauce was yummy with the chunks of peanuts. The tempura shrimp and vegetables were really good too. It included broccoli, green beans and carrots for vegetables, and large shrimp. We were very happy with our choices and left extremely satisfied and full between the two of us. The service was good, but slow. As it began to get busier, she didn't have any help, so it took a long time for our bill, and water glasses were not refilled. The dining room could have been cleaner too...crumbs everywhere, even on our table. They use placemats and have all tables set up before you walk in. It didn't look like tables were completely cleared before wiping down. Overall, we had a nice time and enjoyed delicious food. We liked the swanky music playing...jazz I think. If you love great Thai food this is your spot! My go to it at any Thai restaurant is always the Tom Ka Gai soup and Steak salad that we can, and it always hits here! Everything we've ever ordered is always spot on though. The staff is always super friendly and helpful and if you order to go, it's almost always and I mean like 99.9% of the time on time. The restaurant itself is super cozy and I love that they have a heated patio for those cool nights with lots of seating both in inside and outside. I have been here three times - twice with friends and once with my husband. My first few times - I was blown away with the chicken Pra Ram. We ordered the salad rolls and calamari for appetizer. They have delicious peanut sauce here!! Calamari was delicious - especially with adding some red chili. We also got the Lychee wine drink which was delicious and refreshing! We ordered the spicy mussels and they were hearty in size. We added some red chili for more flavor. I'd probably add onion since it's only being accompanied by bell peppers - for next time! The Pra Ram with chicken was disappointing this time. Previously it came with a juicy and well cooked piece of chicken. Small portions. Food's ok. The worst part is false advertising. They put "wontons" in as part of their Tom Yum noodle, but instead they were inly 2 deep fried wonton sheets, no filling! To the owner: don't put "wontons" when there isn't going to be actual wontons in it. It's false advertisement. read more

Okay. Let's talk about this spot! It is an absolutely adorable and fabulous dinner place! The decor is warm, inviting and absolutely adorable. Legit, can their decorator come to my house, because it is that cute! From twinkle lights, to fabulous glassware to cute chairs. It's very clear they took the time to really design a comfortable and fashionable atmosphere and they nailed it! The service was impeccable with each member of the team helping out in every way which lead to a smooth dinner service even though you could tell they got slammed with food delivery orders. I mean, for real. It was a nonstop revolving door of food delivery folks coming in to collect the items for their customers. Which, I will say, we have ordered some takeout to be delivered from the restaurant but now we're think we will start going in because the ambiance and service were fabulous! And the food. Oh. My. Goodness.... The food! They have SO many amazing choices that we were really struggling with how to narrow it down. So we didn't. We just decided we would box up leftovers! We started with the calamari with was cooked to literal perfection! A light crisp and fabulous flavor! It was accompanied by a sweet dipping sauce but it was so fresh and flavorful, it didn't need it! Then we got the spicy wontons. Oommmggggg MY FAVORITE! They are packed with flavorful meats and drenched in a sort of spicy/sweet sauce that does not overpower the flavor of the wonton, but rather matches it perfectly! Then my wife had the Tom Kah, which she said was the best she has ever had (and she does not say that lightly). It was obvious that they had used all fresh ingredients and the flavor profiles were paired so perfectly that each ingredient stood out on its own. It was perfection. For my main dish I ordered the yellow curry. I was so excited that the curry was actually spicy(medium) without being so overpowering that it took away from the flavor. It was literally perfect! I would have appreciated if it was a little creamier and if the potatoes were cooked a little longer. But I find that most places tend to undercook their potatoes for their curry. Which, when I make it at home, I cook the potatoes separately and then add them, to avoid this issue. However, I do think that would be a bit more difficult to do in the restaurant setting. Anyway, it was delicious and I will be ordering it again. Oh! And the presentation was so cute, in a little white metal pot. Loved that added detail! It's clear that the folks at Local Asian Bistro not only make fabulous drinks and food. They pay attention to the details, and that shines through! Love. Love. Love, this restaurant! I would say it's great for date night, a dinner with clients or dinner and drinks with friends. However, it's a cozy smaller restaurant and I don't think it's great for younger kids. Depending on your kiddos. If you have the kiddos that quietly color at the table, this may be your spot. If you have the kind that tend to be noisier or messier I'd say probably best to only bring older kids who aren't such noise makers and disturb the other dinners :) read more
