I came to Lucky Llama because I heard they have a great açaí bowl. I ordered the Jupiter Bowl. I asked for no coconut and almond, and swapped it out for granola (not pictured). The açaí blend was very smooth. The peanut butter coconut oil drizzle tasted good, although it turned into a hard shell on the frozen açaí. The portion size was big and very filling! The staff were so friendly and happy to help the customers. There is both indoor and outdoor seating.

You can say a tree lead me to discover Lucky Llama Coffee in Carpinteria, CA. The tree in particular is the largest Torrey Pine tree in the world. That beauty is roughly 125 feet tall and girthy at 20.5 inch circumference. As I was soaking in the shower but of the majestic marvel, I noticed Lucky Llama Coffee. The building is set a bit back from the tree. And luvin the stinky cute name and signage. The next morning, I dropped on in to Lucky Llama. The interior is tiny. The seating is mainly the outside patio. The line was out the door but it moved quickly. I ordered a Mayan mocha made with oat milk. Delicious. Ohhh it was smooth and creamy. Chocolatey but not candy bar chocolate tasting, more like quality cocoa. I sat outside and leisurely enjoyed my mocha. Again admiring the Torrey pine tree from afar. The patio had chill, relaxed vibes. It's dog friendly as well. The menu also includes acai bowls, bagels, muffins, avocado toast, bagel sandwiches, croissants, cinnamon roll, and cookies. They baked goods were all gorgeous looking and sitting pretty behind the glass counter. Open daily from 6:30 am-2:30pm.

I came to find this place through a Pinterest search. I came to visit Carpinteria beach for the day & was recommended this spot. The spot is cute & warm. There is ample parking in their lot or the street. There is also indoor & outdoor seating. I ordered the special llama bagel which was 10/10 & the iced Mayan mocha latte. The staff were friendly & open to questions. I recommend this spot to have a quick bite or for a spot to catch up with friends/family. I also loved how everyone would be waking their doggies & having them in the patio.

Cute coffee shop in Carpenteria. I got an iced Mexican mocha which has a hint that f cinnamon in it....it was just what I needed. I would recommend it if you're looking for a little sweetened iced latte. Their cup designs are very cute with a llama on it. I also got a bagel with cream cheese. The bagels looked so fluffy I had to get one :-) staff was nice and they sell merch in there like shirts, stickers and beanies. My SIL was looking for a matcha drink with coconut milk and they had that so nice to see different options!

Super cute coffee spot that we enjoy going to every time we camp in Carpinteria. There are açai bowls take a while on a busy day, but are worth the wait. And their Mayan coffee is really really good. The only thing I wish they had was better options for cold brews with cold foam etc, but other than that great quality coffee.

I stopped in Carpenteria for a quick road trip coffee break; I had planned to go to a different place but it looked so warm and welcoming (and my trip to Peru was a highlight of my life) that I decided to check it out. The establishment is nestled under a historic tree from the 1800s next to what looked like a local boutique. Local families with kids of all ages were enjoying the beautiful Saturday afternoon, as were cyclists and single people. The service was great and the server told me the gluten free cinnamon buns were good. For gluten free, "good" is an understatement. I've tried as many gf cinnamon buns as possible (which is still too few in my opinion) and these are the best ever. They warmed it up for me and the consistency was soft and creamy, not hard like I expected. I saved half for later and even when it cooled down, it was still soft! I tried their specialty, the Mayan mocha and it did not disappoint. The coffee is good quality, as is the chocolate they used. Overall, this coffee shop combines good, gluten-free friendly products with a charming atmosphere. I will definitely bring my friends who enjoy good coffee.

Really cute coffee/brunch shop with a cute little store next door. There's very limited parking (but we parked at a nearby center and walked here). They are dog friendly with tables outside (dogs not allowed inside when ordering). The Iced Mayan Mocha here was really good! It was a little sweet with a nice roasty flavor. The coffee taste was not strong so it was perfect for non-coffee drinkers like me. I got the moon bowl and and it was delicious. I'm not sure what granola they use but it had this saltiness to it that made it SO addicting to eat.

Heard this was the locals fav spot for coffee so had to check it out. There was a line on a recent Sunday morning which was expected. Grabbed a table in back with our dog as the g/f waited to place our order. Cafe Latte was very good and arrived nice and hot. When our Avocado Toast came, it was covered in lemon pepper and salt -- way too much and hard to remove as it was on the tomato and avocado. Would have returned it but didn't want to wait for another one to come out as it took awhile. The piece of toast was rather small for 11 bucks so may try a grain bowl or bagel next time. Atmosphere was lovely next to a very old and large tree.

Lucky Llama is the best place I know of for Acaí bowls, if I have the time to drive from Santa Clarita it's always worth it just for the sake of acaí. Iced lattes are on point and their outdoor seating makes for a great place to sit and read. If that wasn't enough they are just a short walk from the beach. read more

The Lucky Llama is a beachy little coffee shop tucked behind Rincon Cycles-- I'm a bike geek so it is nice to have another caffeine + cycling option in the SB/Carp area. I've been to the Lucky Llama at least six or seven times now, so I figure I'd better get a review up since this little shop has become my stop-off for morning coffee on my way down to LA, and a nice turn around point for longer bikes rides out to Carp and back on the weekend. Plan A: Get driving early, hop off on Linden, and get the best brew or espresso for miles. Plan B: take a nice weekend ride through the hills on 192, come down through Toro Canyon, and fuel up here for a coastal ride home. Either way, not a bad deal. Decor: modern and warm without being too busy--I really dig it. Someone has a nice sense of interior design and color. Interior seating isn't copious, but there seem to usually be at least a few seats open inside and it has great natural lighting. Outside, the deck is gorgeous. Given Carp's weather, that's where I tend to find myself (although the cushy blue chairs inside are nice too). Music has always been good. Nice tunes that are loud enough to enjoy, but quiet enough to ignore. Coffee: I have to say that the espresso is my favorite in the area. Ryan pulls a great shot. If you make it up as far as SB, Handlebar is a close second. I've tended to stick to espresso-based drinks, but a friend with me one visit said good things about the chai as well. Haven't tried the bowls yet, but the baked good and cookies and such look great, and they had some really good granolas I sampled a little while back. In the a.m. and early afternoon this is *by far* my pick in the area. Crushcakes is another good option if you don't want to go corporate CoffeeBean or Starbucks, but I like the vibe here a lot better. Afternoons can be a bit dicier since the LL closes at 4 or 4:30.....but they also do music some nights and First Friday parties (went to the last two--they were great! live guitarists and an art opening). UPDATE: I've since tried the bowls twice and they are VERY tasty. Especially the one that mixes the acai with avocado and peanut butter. Pretty substantial too. read more

Coffee: not too shabby. Chai: powdered but decent. Service: moderately friendly. Presentation: it seems as if they over poured the contents of both beverages past the brim, and the remaining liquid finally came to rest on the saucers they were set on. Setting: slightly unkempt, but maybe that's part of the charm. Overall: decent coffee but poor presentation. Customers aren't usually partial to having their cups covered in 1/3 of the beverage they're supposed to be drinking. read more

Great place for coffee for mamas with littles and pretty much everyone. Food selection is awesome and great espresso drinks. They also sell pastries (yum), local made jewelry and ceramics. A place to hang out and enjoy the quiet life. read more

Very good espresso, nice service, cute area with several organo-hipster businesses to explore. And, perhaps the highlight was this incredible old tree out front! We ordered two almond milk lattes, our go-to mid afternoon pickup. We stopped to escape traffic for a few minutes while driving north on the 101 from LA, and Lucky Llama was definitely a lucky & rejuvenating find! read more

after coming all the way on the 1.5 hour bus ride to carpinteria from sb for the avocado festival, which we ended up not eating a lot of food there, we decided to grab food at lucky llama!! i decided to try the avo açaí- although the combo sounds a bit exotic, the avocado açaí bowl here is 10/10 - you can't taste the avocado but it definitely gave the açaí a much creamier texture :)) the cafe is small but super cute inside, and there's free stickers you can grab and decorate your laptop/hydros with!! will definitely be back here- definitely worth the trip!! read more

The vibe is very cool, totally 'local'...but the coffee on tap is acidic as hell, and if they don't ever get around to either spreading some gravel or semi-paving their parking lot/driveway, be sure to wear your funkiest shoes, 'cause you'll either get dusty or muddy. Friday music scene is fun, though. read more

Starting our vacation perfect with a quick stop in Carpinteria at the Lucky Llama. I was simple and ordered a cappuccino while my husband ordered the Dona Chai latte. What a great environment and atmosphere! The staff are friendly and can handle a large number of customers really well. The coffee drinks are delicious and well prepared. If it's super busy you may need to remind them about your order, but it's an overall excellent experience and definitely worth coin out of your way to stop in. read more

I was working remotely in Carpinteria for a week so Lucky Llama became my office for about 2 hrs every morning. I'm a big fan of Mocha's and their Mayan Mocha is a nice change. Their espressos in general are a bit lighter than I'm used to but overall the flavor was good. I also had a bran muffin which they always warmed up for me for breakfast. The staff are friendly, the environment pleasant and the wifi works well. If you're in Carp then the location is prime too. The only real negative is the dirt parking lot which can make the outside chairs and tables a bit dusty. read more

By far one of the best cups of coffee I've ever had! My boyfriend and I discovered this spot on a day trip from Pismo to Hollywood. We hadn't had coffee that morning, desperately needed to stop, and this was the first place to pop up nearby on Yelp. I had an Iced Mayan Mocha - must try! It was the perfect balance between strong coffee flavor and tasty sweetness (with a hint of cinnamon). There's a beautiful deck area overlooking a historic tree and a cute little shop next door with different odds and ends. It's hard to find a great cup of coffee and they've definitely done it here. I wish we had something similar where I live! read more

Let me tell you why Lucky Llama deserves 5 stars...There isn't a single drink I've had that I didn't like, the bowls are really good and they're made with organic fruit. If you feel like there is too much açaí, you can always ask for extra granola and it will even out your bowl. The absolute best part of Lucky Llama though is the people. You will not going to a coffee shop with kinder people. Also shout out to Sam who always has a warm smile in the morning read more

This is such a good and quaint local spot for coffee, açaí bowls, and tea! I had the best hot lemon tea there...it was amazing and by far the best hot tea I have ever had. The customer service is awful. So rude. I had a horrible experience the three times I've been there. They don't treat me like a person. Ignore my presents. Talking to each other and not giving any of the customers their full attention. All of my friends have had a similar experience. Real bummer. read more

Don't bother ordering from the kitchen, you'll be waiting all day (even when it's quiet). Do order from the cabinet, there's some tasty treats there. The coffee is the best you'll find for miles. read more

History

Established in 2012.

Our love of coffee and tea, and organic food and drinks was what inspired us to start Lucky Llama Coffeehouse. The idea was conceived almost a decade ago, and the project started in early 2011. We just love our town, and we're hoping to create a place where people can hang out, and where friends we've known all our lives would visit, as well as new friends we haven't met yet. We are lucky to have a great spot for our little coffeehouse - right under the historic Torrey Pine, and it makes a beautiful backdrop. Stop by and say hello:)

Meet the Business Owner: Ryan M.

Ryan ran his dad's surf shop, Rincon Designs, for the last fifteen years or so, and although it was a lot of fun, it was time to try something on his own. He and his wife have two sweet babies, Isla and Lyra, and his daughter Isla was the one to inspire the name of his coffeehouse!

On June 5th between approximately 9:00 AM and 9:15 AM, I ordered a Strawberry Milk Matcha at the State Street location. The drink I received looked significantly different from the advertised product and appeared improperly prepared. When I politely asked about it, the employee immediately became defensive and repeatedly insisted that the drink was correct instead of taking a moment to understand the concern. Fortunately, another employee stepped in and offered to remake the drink, which I appreciated. What disappointed me most was the customer service. When I asked the employee for his name so I could provide feedback, he told me that I did not need to know his name and that it was irrelevant for me to know. I found that response surprisingly unprofessional. Mistakes happen. Drinks can be remade. What matters is how customers are treated when they raise concerns respectfully. I spoke with a manager afterward, who apologized for my experience, but I left feeling that the issue was minimized rather than truly addressed. I choose local businesses over large chains whenever possible. That's exactly why this experience was disappointing. I hope this feedback is taken constructively because Dune has built a strong reputation in our community and I would like to see that standard upheld.

It's definitely a favorite with locals, but the line moves quickly, and the patio is dog friendly , so it's worth the wait on weekends. I went with that as all the specialty drinks didn't interest me too much and seemed like they would be too sweet. It didn't take too long until it was ready. Nice flavor! Strong coffee without being bitter whatsoever, it tastes like good quality espresso. And it wasn't too sweet, I got it half sweet with the vanilla, and it was nicely balanced. I wish there were less sweet specialty coffee options so I could try something more unique but it was still good!

The best time to come is during the weekday, because it's not too busy as opposed to the weekends. I usually just get coffee, but on my latest visit I decided to try the affogato. They had a choice of churro or vegan coconut ice cream. I chose the coconut. The ice cream is from Creaminal which is local. I have to say that I was a little disappointed in the way they served the Affogato. The ice cream looked like they scraped the bottom of the barrel and not whole scoops! Hence the 4 stars. It didn't look pleasing to the eye, but luckily the taste made up for it. They also offer lite bites and empanadas from Buena Onda. I haven't tried the food yet, but I have tried Buena Onda and I can vouch that they are my favorite! The views here are priceless on a clear sunny day. The patio area faces the harbor with boat views. They also have Wi-Fi here; which is convenient for anyone using their laptop. The only thing I don't like is there's too many flies inside. Mainly where you order. Hopefully they order a fly zapper or trapper, because they are annoying lol. Overall, this coffee spot is worth checking out despite the flies. Sit outside and you'll be fine.

Ladies at the counter and making coffee are extremely dedicated and work super fast. They offer a great variety of coffees, Kombucha and teas. Lots of fresh pastries and breakfast options. We ordered a Cappucino and a Matcha Latte with almond milk. Extremely great quality of Matcha and Coffee. We even ended buying their Ethiopian Coffee Beans to take home. They have a big seating area inside and out and it is a dog friendly place inside and out.

He's simple, drip coffee with cream. They have a variety of lattes and specialty coffee drinks and pastries. Since this is one of the only good coffee shops in town it can get crowded with a line out the door. Either get there early or wait for the morning rush to be over. We come about 3 times a year when we're in town, this is always one of our spots. Support local!

Even when we mentioned it again and asked, the glazed-eyes looking girl gave a slight remix of her "unfortunately umm due to me umm smelling gas umm we are not able to turn it back onnnnn." Is everyone who works here on meds or something? Coffee was terrible and watered-down, and simple premade sandwiches took 20 minutes to heat in a panini press and bring out. Food was very mediocre and my "poached" egg was basically hard boiled. The food tastes much better when you order online, probably because they actually know you have a set time limit to pick it up so they make it fresh and with effort. They just dgaf if you're seated, I guess. Just go to Lucky Llama guys.

Western extermination had been trying to cure the problem, he said, but they keep failing They need to close down the restaurant and take care of this. For if there is one, there is, and we know, thousands-- in walls, kitchen, storage, flour, pie mixture, etc.

I tried the Avocado Honey Ale since can't go wrong with description of amber honey ale! Was told it was a version of their kolsch with local honey. Wow, it was smooth with a bit of sweet finish, so addictive!!! Still had hours to drive so couldn't just have as many as I wanted, but I checked online and seemed Albertsons sold it so figured I can just pick them up back at home. But the gentleman resting at the bar told me he delivers their beer but only up to the hills. I guess maybe available in stores up to Camarillo, but not over that hill/mountain. I had to have more of it, and they had 6 packs in the cooler for purchase so went for a pack. The green cans are such delightful vessels to hold the even more delightful liquid inside. Wife even cut out the top and using the cute cans as planters, lol! The cans poured out at home was excellent as well, very fresh and refreshing and could get tiny hints of avocado on sips. Just a great beer! After browsing the brewery, it seems avocado honey ale is their signature beer, so I got lucky to choose that from the menu, lol. While enjoying the beer, the amtrak train blew it's horn to leave from the Carpinteria station, so we rushed out to wave and enjoy seeing that go by right in front as well. I am sure the locals were shaking their heads at our excitement of seeing the train go by, one gentleman when leaving even complimented my kid's dance moves from when we were out there to greet and send off the train, lol! Awesome local spot and great folks, just a very relaxing spot to enjoy the delicious avo honey ale! Just hidden so maybe not many visitors to Carpinteria find it, but I picked it out from search for brewery and chose this over the other one on the main streets. What a find for an out of towner! Hope they can expand out or grow their delivery area, maybe get it sent to total wine which must have a distribution center. Otherwise, this is a must stop for any SB trips for sure!

I absolutely love Lucky Llama coffee. I am sad that I only get to enjoy their coffee on limited occasions, since i no longer reside in Carp. They LL is a cute little quirky coffee shop. They offer amazing quality coffee/espresso and a variety of unique drinks, such as the cinnamon honey latte, which is a must try. Chai teas, which are a favorite of mine, are great here as well. They also offer some acai bowls and baked goods which are yummy also. Nice decor with indoor seating or a nice outdoor patio. Friendly and helpful staff. LL is a little hidden gem that is worth the try. read more

Coffee was decent. The place is nice cute with a good sized patio out front. A large pine tree shades the whole patio most of the day, but with the pine tree comes the birds, and with the birds comes their dung. Make sure yo sit under an umbrella if you sit outside.
