I recently read in the Idaho Statesman that this local Chinese joint was going to close at the end of the month. So sad, their situation. The rental company didn't give them an option to renew their lease. After 17 years, they are closing their doors without a choice. With closure comes choas. I remember when my family gave notice of our closure. We were chaotic from the time we announced it till the doors closed. Everyone is getting in their last hooray in. I anticipated that kind of madness when we stopped in for lunch today. And I was right, the place was a madhouse. When I have eaten here in the past, there was hardly anyone. It was just another table along with mine. It's always chill. Today on the other hand was pure madness. Tables were full of customers and dirty plates. I went ahead and sat myself and waited for my server. It took a minute for my server to get to me. She was the only one working so I just hung out till she got to me. Tea and menus were finally dropped off and I kicked it till my daughter showed up to have lunch with me. My daughter and I looked over the menu. Knowing it's our last meal at this joint, we decided to go ham. We both ordered soup, a lunch and I also snagged a tofu chow fun for later. My soup order was hot and sour. For lunch I went with your typical order of mandarin chicken, chow mein and pork fried rice. My daughter got won ton soup and beef with broccoli, fried rice and an egg roll. We waited for a hot minute for our food to be prepared. You can tell they were not staffed properly. Only one server with a whole dining room full of guests. I'm sure there were only a couple people working the kitchen trying to push out all of the orders coming in. Our soup did finally make it out. We both ordered small bowls but the bowl size was gracious. They were both hot and steamy. My hot and sour soup was ok. It wasn't really spicy but it did have a nice sour element to it. There were pieces of tofu, bamboo and carrots. It was thick and hearty but overall it was ok. My daughter's won ton soup was average. The broth was nice but there was not a lot of filling in the won ton. It was mainly won ton wrapper. And I found it odd that they put lettuce in the won ton soup. Lunch was dropped off shortly after we started working on our soup. When I placed my order, I had asked for fried rice with my meal. Server said it would be an extra charge and I figured it would be. My plate didn't have the fried rice. It only came with my chicken and chow mien. After I addressed my server about it, she looked completely lost. I got an "ok" and never saw her again. So, I just worked on what I had. The chicken was good. It was fresh this time around. I love the saltiness of the chicken with the sweet and sour sauce. The chow mien will always be one of my favorite dishes. It reminds me of my childhood, growing up at my uncle's Chinese restaurant and eating it all the time. I love when the crunchy noodles get all soft from the sauce. The bean sprouts are my favorite. The chow fun was really good. It was savory, the noodles were chewy and the tofu was perfectly fried. They will always have some of the best chow fun in town. I'm giving today's visit a 5 star but in reality it's truly a 3. I didn't get my rice, our server didn't really tend to our table and I had to get my bill adjusted for extra charges. I know the end of the road is coming soon for them but hopefully they will be able to prepare themselves for the next couple days because the choas will only get worse and clearly they need the extra hands. I wish these folks the best of luck with their future endeavors, whatever they may be. I'm happy I got one last meal in before doors are finally closed at the end of this month. Truly sad that another local joint will be just a fond memory for us now. read more

If you are feeling some quick Chinese food, pop in here. I enjoy the older feeling of the restaurant, it reminds me of when I was kid. Most places have remodeled and taken out the charm and ambiance of restaurants making them stale. Lucky Palace still has that charm and evokes that feeling of being a kid, with your family, on a Friday night family date. I will say the food seems to be on the saltier side here, pretty consistently. And I am on the search for the best sweet and sour chicken in the valley, the chicken was overcooked on the sweet and sour and the sauce on the extreme sweet side. The one time I ordered generals chicken, it was a bit unmanageable to eat because of the salt. I never waste leftovers, I did not eat these leftovers because of the salt content. With that said, I think you can find some good things on the menu. We did enjoy the egg rolls (on the super greasy side), and my parents manage to find great options such as the Lo Mein. Give this a few tries and I do believe you can find a dish you will keep coming back for. Hidden in a strip mall type setup, you would never know it is there unless you are looking for it. I was with the group of 6 gals here for lunch on the 26th.. Yes.. it was a great testimony to the chef/owner that everyone in town wanted one last fix of his food.. We saw early on that there was a single server (we presume the owner had never had a going out of business week so therefore didn't bring on extra help).. We adjusted our orders accordingly to make it smooth and reduce expectations of a normal visit with only a few table occupied. As usual.. our food came out hot and delicious and we were happily satisfied..Susan, the waitress/cashier/you name it on that day.. deserves a gold star.. This place was actually decent when it first opened. The last couple times I've ordered take out there, i have to say the food quality is gone way downhill. Tonight was especially bad though. We found this place on a whim one night when we wanted Chinese food. It's sort of hidden but worth the hunt! We got it to go and had plenty of food and leftovers for the two of us (and our baby). It was just good classic Chinese food, and they had all the basic things I love. Definitely recommend lemon or orange chicken, lo mein, spring rolls(!), and general's chicken. It's already kind of random to get curry at a Chinese place, so it wasn't super surprising that it wasn't a favorite in our house. The ambiance inside is chill; on a weekday, it's totally dead for dine-in, and there's plenty of booths. The service wasn't my super favorite. It was good but nothing more than that. This place is seriously underrated. For how good the food is and the portion size for the money, it's so worth it. Of course most of the dishes are American Chinese food but they have some really great Authentic Chinese dishes you just have to look for and give it a try. When we got there, we were the only customers. It was about 2:30 on a Saturday. We were tended to promptly and food came out quickly. Started with Hot and Sour soup. Warning! It came out "burn your tongue" hot. We both really liked the flavor. We were allowed to order from the lunch menu. We had Gan Shiao beef with fried rice and Pork Lo Mein with fried rice. Again, came out very hot, which I think is wonderful. We both give the food high ratings for taste. The beef had a "one pepper" hotness rating. I thought it was just right. Sadly that is the extent of the good- WOW! does this place LOVE SALT!!! So much salt the soup was inedible. ( for some reason the soup came with a saltine cracker just in case the salty soup wasn't enough salt) Even the sweet and sour sauce was mostly salt and the chicken - so salty I was kind of able to eat two or three pieces. We chose Lucky Palace based on photos of their food and reviews that others had left. The egg rolls were made in-house as well as the BBQ pork. The hot mustard is the real deal. I also had the Orange Beef which I love but don't find in many restaurants, and it too was delicious as well as the Cantonese Stir Fry Noodles. Have tried this place a two times. First try had sweet and sour chicken which I did not enjoy. Chicken was breaded and fried, but sauce was like a full strength bottle of dipping sauce. This place is close to my house, so we figured we would give it a try. After reading other reviews, we settled on trying the generals chicken and the sweet and sour chicken. The generals chicken was good, very hoisin forward. The sauce was thick and there was no spice at all. The sweet and sour chicken was very sweet, almost like a dessert chicken, but it was tasty. The pork fried rice was good, not too salty and had a good amount of egg in it. The place was nice and clean. We were the only ones in there for most of our experience, so that was nice too. I'm from LA in Boise for business and was driving by and decided to try this place for dinner. Nice ambiance and the waitress was very very polite and very nice. There was a lot of choices on the menu but decided on a sizzling plate which I usually never order. I decided on the Sizzling Pork and Tofu plate and it came out super hot and sizzling. I was shocked how good it was especially for Boise. In LA I would grade it an A- but here in Boise I have to give it a solid A+. The deep fried tofu on the sizzling plate came out perfectly I mean perfect texture and not mushy or under cooked. Wow. I can't wait to come back on my next trip and try other items. Well this turned out to be the best surprise treat of a dinner I've had in a while. I'm not even sure if I know if this place existed before our friends called and said, "Hey, let's do Chinese at the place on Overland behind the Mac store." I'm always up for anything new, so off we went. We got two different family dinners for two, so we had plenty of different dishes for us all to sample. We had Kung Pao Chicken, some fried shrimp, a couple of different fried rice dishes, chicken lo mein, and pot stickers. Everything I tried was really good! Everything was cooked nicely, and all the veggies tasted fresh. I really enjoyed this place, and we will definitely be back! Authentic Chinese cuisine. Low star reviews were looking for "Panda" or some other fast food junk. We enjoyed a large variety of fun and very authentic menu items. Manager and staff were very accommodating. Food was obviously fresh and veggies were crisp and well prepared. The seafood soup was amazing. The sea cucumber stir fry reminded me of visits to Beijing's finest restaurants. The tempura squid was soft and crispy and so perfect. If you're looking for cheap western fast food, keep looking. I'm really sorry to have promoted this restaurant throughout the pandemic and afterwards. We ordered take out and found it 'off', as in greasy and flavorless (General's chicken and Sweet and Sour Pork.) We also ordered lo mein which smelled almost rancid. We chalked it up to a bad night, but chose not to order from them for about a year. Last night we ordered again. Mistake! Sweet and sour chicken was greasy and tasted off. Shrimp was tough and smelled bad. The veggies were not fresh. The soup we ordered was nasty and metallic tasting. Goodbye, Lucky Palace. Whatever happened to your restaurant and/or cook is a shame. This is my favorite Chinese food in Boise since the Twin Dragon closed. Most of the food is actually quite similar. Crab Rangoon is great. Egg rolls are great. Pork and seeds are same as anywhere else. Chinese mustard is super hot as it should be. Lo Mein is fantastic, and sweet and sour chicken is as good as you'll get. One serious set back for me is they don't serve Chinese beer. They don't serve American beer. They don't serve beer. If you want beer with your food, don't sit down. Take it to go. read more

The food was good but a little disappointed on their fried shrimp we thought it was the normal Chinese fried shrimp but it was the store bought fried butterfly shrimp which isn't that great it's always hard and has no taste (we never buy these from the store) white rice comes with entrees and the containers weren't fully filled. read more

Looking for some decent Chinese food at a reasonable price? Lucky Palace is the place to go. I recently walked in and ordered enough food to-go to feed a small army. I had tried calling, but the had a hard time getting through on a Saturday night, so decided to drive over (yes, it was worth it to make the drive). The staff was friendly, apologetic, and explained that they had been slammed with calls since it was cold outside (sub-30) and people were ordering a lot of delivery. I made my order and figured I'd have to wait for quite a while after seeing the number of order slips. Nope! I waited maybe 15-20 minutes and my crate-o-Chinese was ready to go. We bought an assortment of tasty dishes including almond chicken, broccoli beef, moo goo gai pan, lemon chicken, pork chow mein, pork & seeds appetizer, and upgraded all of our rice sides to fried rice. YUM! Everything was delicious and we were stuffed when all was said and done. They threw in some fortune cookies too. Definitely top notch for taste and freshness. read more

The worst.. I Mean..worst customer service. The old lady is straight out of a movie, tacky, extremely rude, smokes, and careless of her customers. The food was absolutely disgusting.. General Tsaos crappy chicken, clearly bought from Cash and Carry downtown, along with the big bags of preservative loaded sauce. The food with sitting in a soup of sauce. It was boiling jelly. Wasn't edible. The sauce literally has a jelly consistency. I couldn't even taste the food or lo mein.. All I could taste was this artificial, horrendous sauce. I gave the food back with the play 90% full and said it wasn't even enjoyable and why.. She ignored me and said "okay great ALL DONE!" and walked away from me.. I had to engage with her again about wanting something else and she walked away again... I said for a third time the issue and she said, "huh.. Weird.. OKAY HAVE A GREAT DAY!" Other reviewers seem to have a major problem with the staff doing this, perhaps this very lady.. Who's even said that she claims she'll have to pay for the food if they want a refund. Customer service is definitely an issue here. We ordered delivery to try this place for the first time. Delivery was fast but two of our items arrived wrong. We had ordered mandarin chicken and general Tsos chicken with broccoli added. (We wanted to try the General Tsos at the recommendation of other yelpers). When the order arrived the mandarin chicken was actually sweet & sour chicken. The General Tsos Chicken was actually Kung Pao chicken (with no added broccoli as ordered) = 2 out 5 dishes wrong. I called the restaurant just to request a refund for the 2 dishes that were incorrect. On the first attempt to reach them, no one answered. Second time I got through. After explaining the issue (and asking for a refund of the 2 dishes only) I was told to hold and listened to a conversation between the employees (I'm assuming) to tell me Sweet & Sour is the exact same thing as Mandarin chicken. Really!? Which is a flat out lie since both items are listed on their online menu- why would you list the same item twice? Long story short they basically refused to refund the dishes and we left them untouched. She explained they were too busy with deliveries to handle our issue or give a refund. Who in their right mind tells a customer they are too busy to help them or make things right!? Needless to say we will NOT be returning or ordering from this business again. I am Japanese from Japan living in Boise so I may have different taste from other reviewers, but I think this place is the best Chinese Restaurant in Boise area for me and my wife. We go there at least once a week. The owner/chef is from Southern China so he is good at cooking southern Chinese dishes. if you know what to order, there is nothing better than this place in Boise area. Our favorite dish there is Cantonese style stir fried noodle with shrimp. Seafood soup is great too. Other good one is dry cooked green beans (with tofu or pork). The Cantonese noodle they serve really reminds me the one I had in Hong Kong. I don't go any other Chinese in Boise area at all. read more
