Sweet and sour chicken with chow mein and fried rice
    Renee M.

I was disappointed that the Mandarin chicken that I ordered and the sweet and sour chicken that I ordered had the same sauce on both. The food lacked seasoning and the fried rice was boring. The service was good , he was very busy with to go orders but friendly to us.

When my dining companion and I walked in at approximately 6pm the restaurant was completely empty other than a take out. As we sat and perused the menu a few more to go orders came in. The music stopped andbwe could hear the music that was playing in the kitchen. The crab rangoon was pretty good, but came without any sauce My food was good but definitely americanized

    Not beef

I've ordered from them several times. This time the order was wrong, missing Ginger beef and instead was some sort of fried chicken. Really bad service when I called. They were questioning that I didn't know what beef looked like. Maybe I'll get a refund. They said they would refund it, but they seemed really disorganized and confused about what to do.

    Hot and sour soup

Absolutely amazing. The food was cooked fresh, the restaurant was clean, our waitress was extremely helpful and awsome! Food portions are huge. We ordered on the lunch menu and still took left overs home. We ordered a small soup for each of us. Don't be fooled, the bowl is a normal size bowl and the hot and sour soup was delicious Highly recommend this place.

    L6 Mandarin Chicken
    Dani S.

Chinese food will forever have a spot in my heart. As a kid who grew up in the restaurant industry, Chinese food is food is ingrained into my being. It's hard for me not to be so harsh on other Chinese restaurants but when you grew up on top tier Chinese cooking, it's hard not to be a harsh critic. I came to New Garden today for lunch. I was craving chow mein and I was determined to have some. This isn't my first visit and the last visit was "ok". After reading some new reviews, I decided to give it another shot. The restaurant is pretty plain and to the point, it's your basic Chinese restaurant. It's not overly decorative like other establishments in town. The server that served me today was nice. There was a slight language barrier but we made it work. Today I ordered the L6 today which is Mandarin Chicken and fried rice with a side of chow mein. The fried rice was good. You can taste a hint of char in the rice from the wok. It was flavorful and fluffy. I like when rice is tacky and clumps together and this fried rice did. There was good chunks of char su and green onion. Topped with a little sweet and sour sour it makes such a sweet and savory bite. The side of chow mein was good! It was topped with fresh celery and bean sprouts. It also came with a lot of sauce for the crunchy noodles to soak up. That's my favorite part! The chow mein was lacking flavor so I did add some salt and soy sauce to brighten it up. What failed me was the Mandarin chicken. The star of the meal. I'm familiar to the dark meat of the chicken, battered and fried golden. I'm used to the chicken being tender and savory with light crispy batter on the outside. The chicken that was served today was neither. The chicken was so hard. The texture of the chicken was awful and it was unbearable to chew. You can't even cut the chicken with a fork. The batter on the chicken is hard to explain. It was far from light and crispy. It honestly reminded me of kettle potatoe chips. It was thick and too hard. I had a couple pieces and couldn't finish. The meal wasn't completely disappointing. It had good aspects to it. But after trying this place for the second time, I probably won't be back.

I was really looking forward to some good Chinese food tonight and unfortunately new garden fell short. It's cold so I ordered Kung pow chicken. What I received was bland chicken and vegetables. No heat no chilies no spice. Very disappointing for Kung pow chicken and not worth it. Not one chili!!

Kung pao chicken, pork fried rice and nuclear sauced sweet and sour.
    John S.

New restaurant in the Collister center, next to Taqueria El Torito. They have an expansive menu, with 179 items. You may need a two-hour lunch break just to wade through the menu. I ordered a lunch combination of kung pao chicken, pork fried rice and nuclear sauce sweet and sour. It included hot and sour soup. Or I could have had egg flower soup instead. Ordered extra spicy, the kung pao heat was two out of 10. The flavor, however, was good and the sauce wasnt overpowering. The sweet and sour was as expected, deep-fried, battered with a sauce that was too much. Oh well. Service was friendly and prompt.

Today, our friend brought us to Garden City to walk along the river, and then over to Uncle Guiseppe's for lunch. It is a small, seemingly authentic New York deli that serves a great number of different sandwiches, along with specialty drinks, like sodas, sparkling water, and lemonade. They also well things like pastries and, of interest to us, jarred roasted tomatoes. My wife had the #9 Monte Cristo, and I had the #3 Bonanza. Delicious. I also had a Manhattan Special Black Cherry soda, also super yummy. My mistake, not realizing what I was doing, was to order "whole" vs "half" sandwiches. The whole are footlong. I ate the entire sandwich, holy moly! My wife brought half home. Next time I would probably order a half. The owner, who I will call Guiseppe, had the heavy East Coast accent, and checked on all of his customers, making sure they were happy and satisfied. This place is a little gem. We're already talking about our next visit to Garden City to walk and have lunch at Uncle Guiseppe's!

The shop itself is tiny with a few tables. It was freezing cold in there, colder than outside which was about 60 degrees. The sandwiches though, they were great! We made our way in and waited till they showed up. The vibe was chill. There was another gentleman eating his burger. My husband and I checked out the menu while we waited. It's been about a year since we have eaten here and I remember the zucchini fries being so good! My burger looked fabulous! The zucchini fries had a nice golden crust to them. I was ready to dig in. I would have liked to put ketchup and mustard on my burger but unfortunately there were no to go packets of either. I can't really use communal sauces so I had to pass on adding sauce to my burger or be able to dip my husband's fries in ketchup. My burger was tasty. I did order it with extra onions and didn't really get any extra. I also don't remember my zucchini fries being so minimal to an order. The side I got today had about 6 rounds in it. As an additional cost, I honestly thought it would be more than 6 small rounds. It's been a year since we have eaten here. The food was good as usual. I do enjoy all the pinball machines that you can play on. The staff is nice. I appreciate that everything we ate today was locally sourced. I am sure we will be back again soon. He was very informative about where to go and places to check out in Boise. I ordered one of the local beers and their flagship meal, the Santa Maria Tri Tip Sandwich. As you can see by looking at the photos, the tri-tip was cooked to perfection. It had tomatoes, poblano, and chimichurri sauce on it to add to the flavors of the tri-tip. The bread consistency was great, not too soggy, and with a great crispy texture. I wish they had spread the tri-tip out more to make sure every bite was being celebrated. I also ordered the mac and cheese as the side per the instructions of the bartender, James. Let me say that was one of the best mac and cheeses that I have ever had. Truly amazing creamy texture and full of rich flavor. Everything melted in your mouth. Definitely worth it. I eventually ended up talking to a fellow bar sitter, and he ended up being the co-owner of the place, TJ. He also filled me in on the places to go and, most definitely, the places to travel to, to experience great beer. He was refreshing to talk to since most people don't have the passion for beer that we both represent. I would highly recommend this place for the staff that is there the solid pub style restaurant that they have created. Super easy and relaxed kinda of place.
