Lucky Dog is the only bar in the neighborhood where you can sip some beers and pet some awesome dogs. No, literally dogs, not scruffy hobos or something. This canine-friendly dive has some decently priced beers and an outdated jukebox. What more could you ask for? Wanted a graffiti covered bathroom and toilet? They have that too! There's a back area to hang out, which is nice for the summer, but nothing special. The blonde female bartender working here is not particularly nice, but so far the other ones I encountered are cool enough. What's cool is that they have a shuffleboard table to play with friends. No food served at this bar, but they are super friendly about you bringing something in from outside. Between my dumplings and steambuns from Vanessa's across the street to my friend's huge deli sandwich at the bar, I thought they'd say something to us but no one actually cared. If you remember the bar that took up this space before lucky dog, you remember how out of place it was for the southside of Williamsburg. It was generic and sterile feeling. The upscale beers were nice, but had nothing for everyday drinking, and the food was pretentious. Well, Lucky Dog remedies much of that by being a good old fashioned hole in the wall with awesome drinks and a sweet shuffleboard table. The happy hour is $3 Gennessee Ale in a 24 oz cup. You can't beat that with a stick. The bartenders are all really cool and genuine and the regular crowd, made of of non-trendy hipsters, bikers, and locals is a nice change of pace from the bars further north of Bedford. Fantastico. Best Bar in Williamsburg. I don't think this qualifies as a "dive bar" because it doesn't smell bad, it appears swept and the bartenders are absolutely gorgeous. It has the best selection of beer in the neighborhood and a fantastic old-timey (i.e. CD-driven) jukebox with everything from punk to Cash and back. I highly recommend sitting out on the front porch on a warm sunny afternoon and drinking multiple rounds of microbrew whilst gazing upon the attractive passersby. read more

PUUUUPSSSSSS. This bar had nice bartenders, low-key vibes, a great patio, and decently priced drinks. It was freezing when we visited, but we took to the patio anyway and spent the evening out there. It was still cozy, but this would be my jam during the summer. The bathrooms were kind of nasty, but it could have just been the crowd, as the place was packed on a Friday night. After accidentally and spontaneously walking across the Williamsburg bridge (damn that is a long bridge), my bf and I were in search of refreshment. How pleasantly surprised were we to find at luckydog not only plenty of refreshment but also a courtyard strung with lights and filled with puppies and dogs gamboling about?! The laid back wooden benches and string lights in the courtyard -plus dogs running under your legs- makes it feel more like a neighbor's backyard than a bar. We saw a couple eating Chinese food so I assume they allow you to bring in your own food from other places? I also saw a dog snatch a bagel out of a girl's hand, so maybe eat at the next place... The band playing inside was also pretty excellent, but with the first peek of good weather they didn't have as large an audience as they deserved- everyone was outside enjoying the cute & hidden patio space. read more

Me and my friend couldn't believe that there was an happy hour from 12-7pm anddddd it featured $3 well drinks. It sounded too good to be true but it wasn't. It was everything we hoped for. I stumbled onto this very inviting bar the first night that it opened. The ambiance is great, laid back. The staff was attentive, helpful and not at all annoying. The jukebox was right up my alley with a few classic rock selections. Speaking of selections, there are an array of wheat beers on tap. A little further south from the hustle and bustle of the Bedford L stop, Lucky Dog rests just on the transition from the commercial Bedford Ave to the slightly more residential Bedford Avenue. Somewhat new to the neighborhood -- the location was once Wells Ales and then Lenora's Way -- this beer bar is a hint divy, but friendly and clean. A great place for an after work drink or just to pass the time on Sunday, the bar features plenty of tap beer (about 20 or so), cask ale, and a large selection of bottled. The bar is definitely dog friendly*, and you can ask the bartender for doggy treats most days. I brought Spike, my friend's brussels griffon puppy, and he was greeted by a pug named Mr. Muggsly, an oddly lethargic boston terrier, and a few other dogs. If it's warm, the back patio is a must. If not, you can always play a game of shuffle board inside. Highlights: inexpensive, friendly, great outdoor seating area, dog friendly. Lowlights: they can be sticklers about the music they play. *As always, since the city banned dogs from bars you might not be allowed to bring in your dog, especially if they have recently reprimanded the establishment. read more

One of the best bars in Brooklyn! It's a great place to bring your pup and have a beer in the backyard. The servers are very attentive and, more importantly, dog friendly. The prices are fair for the neighborhood and the interior is super cozy. I'd get there early if you want a good spot in the yard on the weekends. IT takes a lot these days to compete with my living room. I'll be honest - I never saw the point of the "destination dive". If Lucky Dog was right across the street, it would be a cool place to roll into after work for a $5 Shelter Pale Ale, but when it requires a 20 minute drive, my expectations are - shall we say - higher. Anyway, dive-ish, with Johnny Cash and Woody Guthrie - literally like "one, two" - on the juke. "Ish" because the tap was decent. There's always a caveat, and they were plentiful tonight - small space would have made for irritating crowd had this been anything other than likely the slowest night in recent history, which leaves even less excuse for the abysmally inatentive bar-tending. The glass for my first round sat empty for ten minutes, before the barkeep finally noticed my outstretched hand and the twenty folded in it and asked me what i wanted. Mistaking this for a place with decent service, I made the mistake of asking to sample two beers. The funny thing is she asked, "which of those do you want?" and I replied "definitely the Rare Vos" - this after a rather engaged exchange about which she thought was better. Then...nothing for literally twenty minutes. This despite my repeated subtle attempts to get her attention. In the end I removed the three dollars that would have been her tip from the bar and slipped quietly out the door, leaving the half-full sample glasses for her to discover. In short I'll give this place another chance on a weeknight, when the "A team" is more likely to be in place, and if the service is good I'll probably bump my review up to 4. But spending close to an hour, the latter 25 minutes of it dry, you would have thought the beer was free. read more

While upon a set course to the Spuytin Devil we passed this place and noticed an open parking spot right in front, but we kept on our journey thinking we will case the Devil and if it looks lame we will come back (we consisting of wife and brother: all of us naitive of Chicago). There is always another bar that is cooler without one, so we parked the car on 4th and hoofed it over to Luckydog since it looked divey with that PBR draft sign. Enter Luckydog at approx 8:45 p.m. Too clean to be a dive bar, but the music on the box was good and the beer selection was even better. Scene looked as we all agree "hipster" which is fine, just notice I don't carry a messenger bag. To each his own. My brother grabbed us a round of which mine was the delicious as always Loose Cannon. Craft beers average $5 which is pretty standard. We then grabbed the bench by the window since a few people were leaving. Never thought twice if this was a dog friendly bar until I saw a girl walk in with a little dog. Ok, how did I not figure the Luckydog was a dog bar. I am fine with dogs as long as their owners know when to put them in their place witha rolled up newspaper and clean up their crap. "Cody, be still." Here is when things got a little bland. Someone had put about 2 albums worth of AC/DC on the jukebox. I don't care how good or bad a band is, when you throw money in a juke box mix it up and don't play the same band all night. Realize in a public environment, everyone is subject to your likes so mix it up and maybe have someone say, "I have forgotten that this is a great song, I am going to reconnect with my AC/DC roots when I get back home." If you choose to listen to AC/DC every waking minute of your life, they make this "ipod" for you folks. On a side note I'm pretty sure the guy Briana A. is mentioning walked in when I was there. He brought in a younger looking pitbull or boxer mix which sat there patiently. Then as he talked with the bartender whom he seemed to know, the dog was jumping up on a few people and getting itself between the barstools and peoples legs sitting at the bar. The guy just carried on letting the dog do whatever, but in a dog friendly bar you'll have that. I have no complaints. In summary, place was ok. I never knew I needed the company of man's best friend and a beer alongside one another. A unique take on a bar. I will admit, initially, when a friend invited me for a drink I rolled my eyes a bit when I searched the bar. It read hipster central. (Disclaimer: I don't have anything against hipsters and often I'm called a hipster but I usually love my bars classic style)... However when I walked in, it was refreshingly calm and chill and there were dogs all over the place. They're friendly. You can pet them and it's a great remedy for a long day after work. Even the crowded bar didn't seem so crowded with dogs in the mix. The bar isn't dirty or dingy and there are a wide variety of drinks. Good happy hour specials as well. If you want a break from a tradition bar and you love dogs, this is the place for you. read more

At first it can be rather ODD but once you realize what's going on it's pretty freaking cool! If you like dogs that is. My friends and I stopped in after not wanting to wait on a line at freehold. We assumed it was just a bar called lucky dog- NOT a bar with dogs! Haha. That it was. So many precious dogs everywhere. Chillin in their comfort zone. Drinks were reasonably priced and vibes were happy. They also have a garden in the back. I was a bit drunk but I think there is a dog expected there everyday and the others are just near by neighbors to the bar. Why go to the doggy park when you have this bar? Lol super cute. read more
