The inconsistency--especially with some burgers being overcooked--makes the cost even harder to swallow for what's meant to be casual dining. ( I was part of the Denver Burger Battle this past summer, a consumer by the way ) I drove up today and was seated. 2 tables occupied the restaurant. The Juicy Lucy burger was $15 on the menu, I ordered a small side of fries, $4.50. Small Diet Pepsi, 3.50. AND they charged for lettuce. They CHARGED for tomatoes, WHO DOES THIS?! A thimble of Ranch Dressing? $1.50 to go with those dry fries. A 20% food service charge ON TOP OF YOUR BILL, because the managers and owners refuse to pay a living wage. Long story short, $37 for a diet-Pepsi, burger and fries?! OH HELL NO! I had no alcoholic beverage, no appetizer, no dessert. Granted the burger was " decent." But C'mon! My wife ordered the juicy Lucy and I ordered the sloppy Joe. Another table was seated maybe 4-5 minutes after we sat down. The table that arrived after us received their food before us, no huge deal. When our food came my Sloppy Joe was Cold. The bun must have come right out of the fridge along with the meat that was medium warm. I sent it back. I've had Juicy Lucy's a few times and have even made them at home and I've never had such a flat patty with such a tiny amount of cheese. I'm here in Denver visiting a friend and we were both craving burgers. Realizing that Lucy's was only a 5 minute drive away and considering that it had gluten free buns (we both have gluten allergies), we decided to hop on over. I ordered the cheeseburger which comes with pickles and onions. Keep in mind that all other toppings can be added on, but for an additional fee. My friend ordered the Juicy Lucy, probably their most popular burger. I didn't try this one though. We also split a root beer float and large fries. My burger was pretty good; it definitely hit the spot. Just a classic, no frills, juicy cheeseburger. The food was good, but the service and surcharge are why I won't be back. There is a 20% surcharge which goes to staff. Granted, we were told by the server that there is a 20% surcharge before ordering. Yes, I recognize that we could have left. I wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt though. If the food and service were pretty good, I could've overlooked the surcharge. Normally, for me though, I'd rather tip at the end of my meal based on how well my experience went. What bothered me most, however, was the fact that the server was simply not doing their job. The employee came to our table to tell us, "Sorry it's been taking long for your root beer float to come out. It's just that I've never been flirted on this much at my job." This person was implying that they were simply too busy flirting with one of the patrons to serve our food in a timely manner. The server continued to go over to this patron to "chat" throughout the night. Fortunately, I was able to get the attention of a different server who was helpful and attentive to ensuring that we got our food. I was appreciative of this. I hope that this poor service was only the result of this one individual. I spent $55 for two burgers, fries, and a root beer float. If you've never heard of it, a juicy lucy is a Minneapolis native - essentially a cheese stuffed burger and this is their specialty here. The hubs and I stopped in after some drinks and they were empty on a Saturday night. It's a small space, so this was a-okay by me. Sat at the counter and we were served by the friendliest souls. Their menu is short and sweet: burgers (single, double, and the juicy lucy specialty), a few other sandwiches if beef isn't your thing (chicken, grilled cheese, and a vegan black bean) and fries - that's it. They do have a full bar and a few beers on the menu. No fancy toppings - just onions (raw or cooked) and pickles if you'd like. Ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, and mayo packets at your disposal as well. We got in on the juicy lucy, of course, which I will say is a little pricey at $14 for just the burger. But man is it good! Two delicious (and custom beef mix) patties with American cheese in the middle cooked to perfection. I got mine with cooked onions and no pickles, added some mayo and that's it. The flavor of the beef spoke LOUDLY for itself. They give you a tip on how to eat it - as you can imagine, that oozey cheese is HOT when it first comes out the oven. So, patience is key, but this burger was so good! Juicy is an understatement. We also ordered the full order of fries which was nicely priced at $5 and the perfect amount for the 2 of us. Some solid burgers here and a little different from all of the other burger spots in the city with their truffle this and fancy cheese that - don't get me wrong, those are great too. I was craving this place for an entire week ever since I saw the Tik Tok advertising those Juicy Lucy's! So obviously I ended up ordering that because there has only been one other time when I've had a stuffed burger and it was homemade, so I realized that I've gotta try a greasy diner version of that! My fiance, on the other hand, played it safe and ordered a regular cheeseburger. The moment I got it, I got a million warnings from the person who brought it telling me that it was extremely hot on the inside and that I need to just take a teeny gentle bite until it cools down. Heeding that warning, I did just that, but boiling hot cheese STILL zapped out of the patty and into my lip. It was a tiny bite so it was a tiny splash, but still got me howling like it was Halloween. Then I waited for maybe five minutes and tried again. This time, the cheese that was still boiling hot splashed across my thumb which hurt even more than my lip. At that point I was too scared to try again so it just sat there on my plate for a good while until I cautiously tried again. Luckily, it finally cooled down enough where I wasn't getting burned alive. So fun to experience a burger with stuffed cheese! Very tasty and fun and really filled me up.
