Stopped in for a late dinner on our way back into Denver from a Red Rocks concert. It was fairly busy for 10:45. We were greeted and opted to sit at the bar. The bartender (maybe manager) greeted us and shared it's the oldest bar in Denver, which was cool to learn. The restaurant was pretty dim but it was late and we didn't mind. It's a small quaint space but oddly perfect. We were there for quick bar food, but decided to also order drinks. We had an espresso martini and a cosmo. Both great options. We also ordered a grilled cheese with tomato and lettuce, combo fries & onion rings, a cheeseburger and buffalo chicken tenders. The food comes out on a carrier that also houses many condiments and essentials. It was a very old style presentation and we enjoyed that. Everything was delicious and service was quick. If you're looking for good food and cheap drinks, My Brother Bar is the place to go. I just moved to the Platte Street area and my goal has been to try new places a couple times a month. I've heard good things about this place. They are mainly known for their burgers. And they did not disappoint! We came on a Friday night and they are open till late which is great for a late night dinner and drinks. The place was moderately busy but we got sat immediately. They have a popcorn machine in the restaurant - I asked our server about it and she brought us over a serving! So ask for popcorn if that's of interest to you! I got the classic cheeseburger and it was delicious. A solid burger and you can add your toppings. They bring you over a box that contains some condiments, pickles, onions, relish and peppers. My Brother's Bar is still killing it. Our latest visit was on a Sunday - something they haven't always done, I hear. We stopped in for brunch - served until 2 pm and all ordered from their limited breakfast menu. Not mad about it. My breakfast sandwich on an English muffin with bacon was scrumptious and my partner was quite happy with his massive breakfast burrito. If you know MBB, you know their drinks never disappoint. I had been to this place one other time...a work function. Years ago. I had to make the return trip because it continues to pop up on all of the best burger lists I read (which I do a LOT), and my work thing was just a buffet thing (still good though), without the burger. Anyway, my wife and I went with my intentions fully on the burger. First of all, service. Miguel greeted us as our bartender and gave us perfect service throughout our visit. There is an art to being there whenever you need something without being intrusive, and that is what he did. Thanks, Miguel, you elevated our experience. I had the Fremont Lush IPA, which I know well and glad that they had, and my wife had a very solid Bloody Mary. And she is picky. We both loved out burgers. I asked about the one go-to, and he said the JCB. I got it double style, with bacon and swiss. Loved it. It goes on my list of best burgers personally, and I will definitely be back for it. We each got a side of fries, and we probably over-ordered on that-our bad. The Cajun aioli to dip them in was fantastic. I hope their kitchen creates a house-made hot sauce before I come again. Let's talk about the presentation. Loved that also. Some might be hesitant about a burger still in paper wrapping, but that made it genuine, basic, and wholesome. The rest of the presentation was ridiculously awesome too. You get a whole cart of pepperoncini, relish, pickles, and onions. Awesome. We also loved the vibe of the place. On our last day in Denver, a couple of hours before we needed to head to the airport, hubs asked me to find the oldest bar in town. My Brother's Bar was at the top of several lists I found online, and not far from where we were downtown. So we decided to go. As it was mid-day on a Monday, parking in their lot was easy. We initially sat outside in their cute patio area, but then decided to find a table inside to soak up the "oldest bar" atmosphere. We made a great decision to move, but don't snooze on the patio if that's more your vibe. Even though I'm not normally a burger gal, My Brother's Bar seems to be known for a solid classic burger so that's what I ordered. I was amused & delighted with the caddy of toppings & condiments that was brought to our table. And that burger was delicious! Hubs ordered chili & onion rings, and enjoyed both. I had heard great things about their burgers so when I had family in from out of town I figure it was a good time to check it out. We got parking right up front by the door shockingly. We walked in and were seated in the 2nd room in the back. Our server was attentive and checked on us often. I ordered an iced tea and the basic cheeseburger and added lettuce and tomato for an extra $1. My tea was very lemony which I am not a fan of. I think it was Lipton lemon tea. Either way, it tasted off to me so I just ended up drinking water. The burger came out served with this big box contraption that had basics like ketchup and mustard, but it was has raw onions, jalapenos, and other various things to add to your burger. It was interesting. I have never seen anything quite like it. Either way, I only needed ketchup from the whole thing and it takes up a lot of space on a table. Kind of strange. Overall my burger was good. It was greasy wrapped in parchment paper clearly covered in grease. Good flavor on the meat. I am not sure I would come back though. I also didn't remember we'd been here (and sat outside) a few years back before we moved to Denver. Weird memory, but my google history confirmed. We waited in line for a few minutes since it was a busy Saturday and there was an outdoor event going on next door at REI. It was just two of us so we ended up getting seated quickly after that. I ordered the regular burger (tomato + lettuce are $1 extra, fries or sides are extra) which was $10. I guess reasonable? Though I think charging extra for a slice of lettuce and tomato is a little weird. My husband and I shared a "large" side of fries + onion rings and it was a big enough portion for us, but I would imagine a small would be VERY small as the large was not VERY large. Anyway, burger was pretty good, cooked the way I wanted it. They also bring a little plastic corral kind of contraption to the table which has condiments, including hot peppers, onions, relish, ketchup, etc. Kind of cute? My folks loved to go to Rockies games. As longtime Denver natives they were thrilled when Rockies landed at Coors Field. Brothers was their place to go after games. My dad passed in 2014, and when my mom shared her nostalgic love of this special joint we were happy to make that happen few years back. We live out of town so can't always make happen when we come to visit. We did tho last Sunday for my mom's 87th. Service service service. Or not. From initial call, rude, to seater, rude to server, who I guess covers up for her less than ok service by calling people dear. Nope. Food was solid, and not sure my ma noticed that service was snarky, so we will take it for the win. Just disappointing. We were party of 6 & baby, and I wasn't a bit surprised the gratuity had been added. Stepping in to My Brothers Bar is a Denver history lesson all in itself. Opened in 1873 by Italian immigrants along an old stagecoach route, the original bar and tin ceiling speak loudly of the 19th Century. We sat at the bar -- I highly recommend it for the experience and entertainment of interacting with the very friendly bartenders, servers and other patrons. It's a welcoming place. Probably leftover from its original days where bars were more like community centers, teaching the newly arrived how to live in their new world. I had the Moisha (a reuben with a slightly different sauce), husband had cheeseburger and we shared onion rings. All were very good. The Moisha's pastrami had thick slices of meat that was a welcome change -- though not even sauerkraut for me (but I love LOTS of kraut!). Both the burger and rings were eaten with dispatch! Walked in with friends from out of town on a Thursday at 8:30pm. Friend from out of town walked towards the bathroom when we entered. Bartender quickly corrected my friend and pointed towards the "please wait to be seated line" friend cracked a joke and said "sorry I can't read" to ease tension and decided to just wait for a better moment to use bathroom. Bartender responded with "I can tell". Different older guy came up a few minutes later and asked if we wanted bar or table. We said we're just here for drinks but would like a table if possible. He sat us at a table. 2 minutes later the same bartender walks up to table and asks us if we're here for food or just drinks. We say drinks. And he says we can't buys just drinks. Made no sense to even ask the question in the first place if it was a consistent rule or else he would've just tried to take our order. Obvious he was unjustly offended by my friends joke and didn't want us there. We decided to just leave but it was a bad look for my friends first opinion of Denver lol read more

I've walked past this spot a dozen times and finally caved (they were selling girl scout cookies). Onion rings are one of the finer things in this life in my humble opinion and My Brothers Bar does them right. We did a 50/50 fry/onion ring split which I don't regret since the fries were good too but next time i'd go full on onion rings in the largest size they're willing to serve. I can't wait to come back for a burger or dog but until then i'll be dreaming of my reunion with those sweet crispy rings. Staff is cool, friendly and to the point. Arriving on a hot summer day this was the perfect place to stop for cold refreshing inexpensive draft beer. Food prices were reasonable especially the classic burger which they are known for. The food was prepared quickly and was delivered with a giant condiment caddy with all the burger fixings that included onions, pickles, peppers, relish and more. Such a clever idea so you can prepare your burger to your liking. I'm glad I stopped in to this 150 years old institution. Wish I would have inquired more about its history. Next time! Ridiculously glad I stumbled upon this gem of a spot due to a local field trip. Would not have noticed this hole in a wall kind of spot otherwise. Ordered take away to eat by the river and asked Rachel (super nice) how long it would be, and she told me 30 minutes due to the field trip of 25. I came back in 35 and she had it packed and ready for me :) Johnny's Burger = real good burger oozing with goodness!!! Even the onions on the side were good, which I can't really say the same for most burger places. Onion Rings = hands down best onion rings I've ever had. Despite the poor Canadian to American exchange right now. I felt like the burger and "large" onion rings (small would have left me wanting more) was worth every penny in my humble opinion. Very cool spot, and apparently the oldest continually operating bar in all of Denver, having opened in 1873. Not sure what they did during prohibition, but probably served burgers. The staff is wonderful, and the food is great. There's a good number of options, but it is pretty standard bar fare, so if you're looking for something fancy, it's not the spot. There's also a pretty decent happy hour, and even without it the prices are good (considering the current state of the prices of stuff)... It's situated a couple of short blocks from the flagship REI store, as well as the river walking paths on the Platt. Definitely worth a try. read more

It's a dive bar with food, My Brother's Bar was the hangout for some of that beat generation including Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac (it was then known as Paul's Place). It's not a fancy place but the burgers are cooked to order on a flat top grill and the beers are poured cold. It's not hard to find if you know where it is, but there is no sign out front and no advertising. They have no wifi. There were no televisions. I think they take credit cards but I'm not sure.
