Luis came from Oakland to Vacaville with his crew for 4 days to gut and replace the shower surround and base in the rental my daughter lives in with her family. I happened to be here staying with my grandson coincidentally for the last 2 days while they completed the job and while I didn't interact with them much through the process (they were able to enter the MB from the back entry and never came through the home which maybe @ 1200 sq ft - aside from some of the construction noise which is expected, I hardly knew they were here and my grandson didn't know they were here at all and was able to take his naps without a problem), he ended up showing me his completed work so I could share with my daughter and SIL the detail and information for example how he installed a new drain because the old one didn't fit the new base and how he also installed a new shower bar and toilet paper roll holder and the correct door with the attached towel bar being the door that should be on the right and the ease of use of the glides of both doors. He also told me how he installed a couple of additional 2x4's behind the surround of the largest wall to provide extra solid support for the backer board that he had replaced a big section of (significant rot/mold damage to the preexisting backer board). He needed to access the roof crawl space to assess the access to potentially return to install a ceiling fan since this bathroom was not built with one and he needed to provide the home owner with an estimate. After confirming the crawl space, he did enter the attic and took pictures and again shared with me in great detail what he found and took pictures to share with the home owner so I could give the kids a heads up if he may return in the near future. Which admittedly would end up being quite costly although he did not say how much and I didn't ask as that part is not my business, ultimately it is between he and the home owner and I can't speculate if it will be something she will end up moving forward with but I believe, with the limited info I know is it still may be a possibility since mold is any homeowners and residents enemy. I know that the homeowner had several estimates and anticipated spending upwards of 10k but really wanted to pay much less but was simultaneously realistic. She had been coordinating such for a couple months before she selected Luis and from what he knew he said that his bid was half the cost of one of the higher end estimates she had received. I have no idea what any of the actual numbers were, I've never met the home owner but I know it's pretty universal that home owners don't tend to invest on the high end of their rental properties. Years ago I had a kitchen and bathroom reno done in my home at the time for a house of comparable sz, it was expensive as hell and took a couple months to complete both. I haven't written a lengthy detailed review on here for years but my short interaction with Luis got my attn especially since my boss who owns a home in Walnut Creek and a lovely law enforcement couple that I volunteer for on their ranch here in town have all recently asked me if I know of anyone who does construction or electrical work recently and at the time I had no one come to mind. Now I have Luis that I will be more than happy to recommend him to any people if I'm asked. He's a kind, genuine, considerate, business owner and works hard with his crew to provide excellent work and really pays attention to his details and it shows because he cares and that just doesn't seem to be the majority of businesses out there like him these days. He also told me that he mainly works for property management companies out of Oakland for apartment complexes and home reno and this was his first job in Vacaville and that the home owner who resides in Martinez was put onto him by her friend that highly recommended him because they've exclusively use him for their prop management company. While Luis communicated with me promptly via text, the worker he sent out to give me a floor repair estimate never showed. The first time he said he was stuck in traffic and was going to be over 1.5 hours late, which was unacceptable. I rescheduled two other times with Luis, but his worker was a no-show both times. The refrigerator in our kitchen leaked and caused water damage to a portion of the hardwood floors. Called Luis to provide an estimate and he came the same day. He provided an estimate the next day which was competitive and we agreed to have him repair the water damaged floor. When we had the refrigerator removed for replacement we noted that additional flooring was damaged under the refrigerator and the drywall behind the refrigerator needed to be replaced. Fortunately, Luis could do drywall as well. Luis did a FANTASTIC job on both the floor repair and the drywall installation as can be seen on the after photos attached. Tenants recently moved out of my home in San Leandro and left me with destroyed carpets in two downstairs bedrooms (with urine and other liquid damage). I was told they were beyond saving by a carpet cleaning service. So I found myself needing new flooring and only five days before the new tenants moved in. What to do?! I called Home Depot (my go to store for fast repairs) and was dismayed to learn the fastest they could schedule me for service was three weeks out! Then I remembered the guy who'd installed the upstairs carpeting I'd bought from Home Depot a year back - his name was Luis Aldana and he'd been super nice, super fast , reliable and very easy to work with (all traits I treasure in workers). He'd mentioned at the time that he was a flooring specialist who worked with not just carpet, but vinyl, tile and laminate as well. I'd been so impressed I'd asked for his business card. Rummaging through my desk, I found his card and called him and explained my situation. He was finishing up a job but could give me an estimate the next day. Good enough. In the meantime I bought laminate flooring and liner at Home Depot (no more carpet with tenants!) to have it ready. That night my neighbor told me she knew some guys who could install the laminate for me for $600 total. Wow, that was a deal, so I had them come by that night. They looked briefly at the carpeted bedrooms and confirmed the price. I almost hired them on the spot, but thought it couldn't hurt to hear what Luis had to say the next day. Am I glad I waited. The next afternoon Luis showed up exactly on time, and was as friendly and pleasant as I remembered - all great traits especially when working with someone under deadlines. He looked at the size of the rooms (10' x 10'), then did something the other guys hadn't: he pulled up a corner of the carpet and looked underneath. Surprise, surprise, there was a hardwood floor underneath! But I needed to get the carpeting off to see what condition the floors were in. Luis offered to rip out the carpet and pad - in both rooms for $100. I figured I could drop the carpet at the dump later so told him to go ahead, and realized this was something the other guys hadn't included. Twenty five minutes later, the carpets were gone. Turned out Luis had room for them in his truck so he offered to dump them for me - wow again! Luis really made it easy for me. As it turned out, the floors had several black spots where the wet carpet had damaged the underlying wood, requiring some serious repair ($$) before being refinished. I didn't have the time or money to deal with it so I decided to stick with installing the laminate. Luis looked carefully at the floors, showing me how the wood had swelled with the moisture damage and explaining how they must be leveled out before laying down the laminate, or the laminate would buckle and warp as well. He would have to cut some wood out of each mounded area and nail it down, and level a couple of depressed areas with some flooring patch that looked like mud to me but dried like concrete. I realized how much trouble I would have been in had I gone with the other guys who either would have charged me more as they discovered the problems Luis had taken the itme to find in advance, or who would just have laid down the liner and laminate over the uneven floor. After Luis explained the prep work my floors would require, I gulped and waited for the pitch: this was going to be expensive, right? Wrong. Luis said he could do it all for $800. That sounded very reasonable to me and it was clear that he knew what he was doing and would do a professional job. I hired him for the project. Luis showed up the next day on time and went to work. I couldn't believe the amount of work he did: efficiently removing the tacks and tack strips, cutting, sanding and nailing down the floor. Where the floor was depressed he leveled it out with a flooring patch that looked like mud but dried hard like concrete. He removed the baseboards (in one piece) which can be hard to do, so I didn't have to buy new ones. He cut and lay the laminate beautifully - and straight (I'd had experience the year before with a laminate installer who'd installed the office floor slightly crooked and that had been expensive to correct.) He even put the baseboards back on (something my painter had planned on doing) and they looked good! No way would the other guys have done all this for the price they quoted me, Luis was definitely the better deal. Luis finished ahead of schedule, still smiling, and my floors looked gorgeous. All lin all a super professional job - and surprisingly affordable. I would recommend Luis Aldana to anyone for any flooring installation - you will definitely be in good hands. read more

Our flooring project was tricky because the subfloor was very uneven. We interviewed a bunch of flooring installers and got a handful of quotes. We hired Luis because he came up with a strategy to save money on materials without affecting quality. He planned the prep carefully and took the time needed to get the subfloor ready so that when he put the flooring down (engineered acacia) it was as level as it could have been. The baseboards and transition pieces were also tricky but Luis did a great job with the finish work. We ripped out old carpet and found a concrete floor that was not level in any direction. Luis responded quickly to our call for help , gave a very reasonable estimate, and leveled the floor perfectly.. Luis Aldana is the best! Initially, as contracted through Home Depot, I had a kitchen backsplash completed poorly by another worker (uneven lines, poorly placed pattern, etc). Luis was tasked with the demolition of the previous work and the re-installation of the new tiles. I was a bit concerned at first since a hammer and chisels were used to remove the previous tiles and some sheetrock along with it, but Luis worked with the precision of a surgeon and removed all the previous work without damage to cabinets or the countertops. Luis Aldana did a great job on the flooring in a rental apartment that I have. It was a combination of carpet, and hardwood flooring, and both are beautifully done. The hardwood in particular is quite impressive. The original floor was quite damaged from years of use (original oak floor from the '40s), and we had reconfigured the apartment so the floor needed a lot of infill. You cannot tell what's old and what's new - very impressive. He was available immediately for an initial assessment of the job, and clearly worked to organize his other obligations so our job fit into a schedule that he could commit to, and that matched our timeframe.
