I came to find Luis because of a serious bind. I had ordered a custom lehenga from Mumbai for an Indian wedding and it arrived completely out of proportion. I went to several of my normal tailors and was turned away because the machines could not handle the thick beadwork. Luis took on the challenge and the outcome was superb. I should mention he did this in just 36 hours!! His attention to detail was on point and he did the project within the requested expedited time period. Kudos to Luis. He did three pieces for me but a special shoutout to the dress he altered for me: I bought it ten years ago and was unable to wear it as it was extremely low cut. He brought the neckline up and kept the pattern perfectly in line - it looks as if the dress was designed that way and I can wear it again! Luis is and I have been very happy with his work. Best tailor I've been to and all for an amazingly low price. It's not a rush service, so you need to bring your items several weeks before you need them and give a call to "check on things/remind" him. But you won't be disappointed. Mr. Luis is a superb tailor. I went in with two brand new suits and was attempting to get them tailored. Upon him seeing how the suit fit he immediately recommended I return the suits and buy some that fit my body more appropriately. As I will be using these suits for business, I want to look as professional as possible. So I went back to the store and got suits that better fit me. Upon returning with the correct suits he tailored them appropriately and at a reasonable cost. The extra star is for the discount I received on my dress, but this was my first time coming to Luis and it will be the last. I came in following the great reviews I saw here and unfortunately, this time Yelp was wrong. I was received by the woman Luis works with, who had me try on the dress (a bridesmaid dress) to mull over it and not make any changes. I guess Luis was sick at the time, so totally understood when she said he would be back later in the week. I gave them the dress (about 4 weeks before I needed it) and came back the next weekend, when Luis was there. We talked about a few things but mostly about how he couldn't make many changes because of the way the dress was built. We decided on a couple things and I said I could come back in two weeks. He said he'd be done way before then, but I gave him until yesterday anyway (5 days past his stated deadline, and three weeks after dropping off the dress initially). Yesterday I walked in and was immediately turned away, saying they had too much work to do and hadn't gotten to it, but it would be done today. I came in today, and Luis had me try the dress on, which still had pins in it and on which clearly no work had been done. He asked me to come back Tuesday and I refused, saying I needed it today. So he fixed it up in about half an hour, and now my dress looks worse than it did initially. But there's nothing I can do at this point, as they kept it for 4 weeks with no indication that they clearly did not have the time or inclination to do it, or do it right. Save your time and your money, and AVOID this business. read more

I used to go to Suh's because are closer to where I live, but after they completely ruined a shirt and a blazer on two separate occasions I had to check out Luis, and I am SO GLAD I did. We found Luis's on Yelp, and are so happy! So far, I've had multiple suits tailored here and my wife had several dresses altered. I have previously had bad experiences with tailors because I have a larger frame, making me tougher to adjust clothing to. Luis is able to fit the clothing perfectly, explaining why he wants to do a certain thing. My wife has had several dresses altered here and Luis is a true professional. I asked Luis to trim several pants and sew up holes or buttons on several pieces of clothing and he was not only superb but a wealth of knowledge and a good soul. He even explained how he could tailor a coat so it would look like I wanted it but with less time and expense, and took my shoes for fixing to a colleague of his down the street who takes care of shoes. When I needed some tailoring for a used wedding dress which was a bit too small (I needed it in 2 days!), he did some quick fixes and made it fit well. Even though I've moved out of Alexandria, I'll continue going to him for any of my tailoring needs. read more

I've had two suits and a heavy pea coat altered by Mr. Luis. The results have been absolutely stellar and the price was well below the various estimations that I read online. He is running a smaller operation, so things do tend to take a bit of time, but the results are well worth the wait. read more

Luis is a very honest man. I took my suits to get tailored because I lost a lot of weight and he told me he could do it but suggested that I would be better off buying new suits. He said the fit would not be the same because of how much weight I lost. Another tailor would have taken my money for the 5 suits I needed tailored. Thanks to him I gave the suits a new home to a well deserving person and bought new suits with the money I saved on tailoring. read more

Please do not use Luis Tailoring for your clothes. I have used this tailoring service twice now. The first time was fine, though with mediocre results. The final product was good, but the time taken to alter and re-alter the clothes was significant (apparently Mr. Luis only does some of the work in his shop, and leaves the rest to less experienced assistants). This last experience with Luis Tailoring, however was deeply unpleasant. I dropped off three shirts and a jacket for alteration last month (July 29th), with the knowledge that it would take some time to complete the project. Mr. Luis asked me to call him the following Friday to check on the status, and estimated that at least the shirts could be done by then. I left a message that Friday, the following Monday, and every few days after that while I was away traveling. I received no reply. Today, August 26th, I finally got the chance to revisit Mr. Luis in his shop. He said that the shirts and jacket were almost done, but he would appreciate it if I could return in a few hours to pick them up. Incensed, I asked for him to return my clothes to me, and he complied. The clothes were untouched, and had not been altered in any way. After his assistant removed the safety pins, I left without receiving an apology or excuse. I could not be more displeased with the behavior at Mr. Luis's shop, and will be trying my luck elsewhere. read more

Suits ended up being over 10 days late & lots of wasted time. When I went to pick them up the first time (which was AFTER the stated deadline of when they'd be finished), I was told they were not finished, but would be finished the next day. When I went back TWO days later: surprise, still not done. They told me they could hurry up and finish in 40 minutes. I said not I am not waiting and would come back another day. Then they said, okay 15 minutes. I turned around and walked out. I don't want the tailoring on my clothes to be rushed, and if you need 3 weeks to tailor my clothes, then tell me from the beginning so I don't have to waste my time driving all over the place. Ridiculous. I am very disappointed and would never recommend this place to anyone. I still don't have the suits and I'm not holding my breath for them to look great, or for this place to give me a discount for screwing everything up multiple times. read more
