I cannot recommend this team enough! I went dress shopping back in my hometown with my grandma, who was too old to travel to my DC wedding. I came here during COVID-19 timeframe and they have been amazing helping me with my dress alteration. I got a customer wedding gown which came out to be super big. The mother and daughter duo were extremely helpful and really knew what they were doing. The logistics of the appointment was seamless and everything is by appointment only. I really appreciate how they only take one customer at a time and let's you wash your hands prior to the start of your appointment. Diane and Michelle are AMAZING! When I first received my dress, I was extremely nervous and to be honest had a lot of doubts. It was way larger than I expected and I felt like I was swimming in it. It hardly stayed up and didn't look at all like it did when I tried it on in the bridal salon with all the clips. My biggest fear, which I expressed to them, was that it wouldn't stay up on my wedding day. Diane and Michelle worked wonders on my dress, hemming all the layers, taking it in in the waist and hips, and reconstructing the bodice to ensure it fit me like a glove and flattered my figure. They were super kind, complimentary, listened to my concerns, and answered my questions. The process was seamless -- my dress needed lots of alterations and I had three appointments total (that includes the pickup appointment). I got married on the west coast and they helped me feel prepared to fly with my dress. They gave my cousin a tip sheet on how to steam the fabric, helped with day-of product recommendations, and taught her how to do my bustle. No attention to detail was spared -- they were so kind to her as well (she came to all of my appointments). For the amount of work they did, I felt it was fairly priced. No, it wasn't cheap -- but you get what you pay for :) My one piece of advice to future brides: Have a professional tailor take your measurements before ordering the dress. My measurements were done incorrectly at the bridal shop leading me to order a dress at least 1-2 sizes too big even at my biggest measurement, which likely led to more alterations. This could not have been a better experience. I had a crazy timeline (due to family circumstances, I had to dramatically shorten my wedding timeline, and come back home to Alexandria from New Zealand a week before the new wedding date). I had my dress tailored in New Zealand and unfortunately when they took in the hips they left it bunched and did not take out the extra fabric, just sewed it in. Be Fitted was wonderful in assessing what they would be able to do in a short time, and got it done in just a couple of days and it looked SO much better. I also paid for the steaming/prep service which revived my dress from its travel as carry-on all the way from New Zealand. I dropped my dress off after my wedding for cleaning & preservation because I know they'll do a great job with it too. Cannot thank them enough for helping my dress fit fantastic. I long knew about BeFitted Tailoring due to living in their vicinity and when I was looking for a wedding dress tailor, the first place I researched was them. It only took their consistent five-star rating and stellar reviews for me to confirm what I already knew in the back of my mind, that BeFitted was the right fit for me. By appointment only, scheduling is very convenient on their online booking form. You can also text or email them for appointments. For the working gal, this place is particularly awesome because they have weeknight and weekend appointments. No need to take leave to go get your dress altered! Because all clients are seen by appointment only, you get one-on-one, personal, private consultations. Their attention is 100% dedicated to you, and you don't feel like you're just another number to them. BeFitted specialize in tailoring wedding, bridesmaid, and special occasion dresses. Their studio is cozy, quaint, and clean. They are able to on average, have brides in and out in three fittings including the initial consultation. I only had two fittings, including my initial consultation. Due to indecisiveness about which dress to purchase, I didn't make an appointment until late June once I bought my wedding dress. However, the first appointment went very smoothly. We agreed upon lots of hemming, adding bra cups, adding a bustle, and adding a jeweled belt (which I bought from their curated selection). I scheduled my second fitting for early August, and both ladies were fairly confident that I wouldn't need another fitting after that. They were right (thank goodness)! When I came in for my second and final fitting, the dress fit like a glove. I could hardly believe that they had accomplished everything in a matter of six weeks. My maid of honor was so impressed by how perfect the dress fitted me when I stepped out. Michelle was also very helpful in showing my maid of honor how to bustle my dress and even gave her a crochet hook to help with the many buttons! They really make this stressful process easy and manageable. Diane and Michelle are meticulous, hardworking, extremely friendly, thoughtful, and accommodating. Michelle and Diane are just wonderful. Within seconds of slipping into your dress, they will tell you exactly what it needs to look like it was custom-made for you. I only had to come in once for alterations for my wedding dress. When I tried the dress on during my second fitting, it fit me perfectly. I could not be more pleased with the results! I would be remiss if I did not add that Michelle and Diane are both extremely nice, and will make you feel like a million bucks when you try on your wedding dress. The studio is so cute, and they give you a really helpful folder filled with information about how to care for your dress and what to expect. They also attached to my dress the sweetest personalized note wishing me well on my wedding day! Update to my review below, because I can't see a way to update it directly - the shop owner is right, they did make the "in-scope" adjustments agreed to at the beginning. However, the problem is that they did them *incorrectly* then were not open to fixing them before my wedding - not what one would expect for the high price of $950. The fact that the tailor that fixed these errors (Green & Blue in DC) could also do other things that BeFitted originally deemed "impossible" and out of scope just further speaks to the quality level. AND they never gave me back the 100% silk material hemmed off the bottom of my dress - NOT industry standard. Other places give that back to you, as it has monetary value or can be used for other things for your wedding. Perhaps I should have taken my dress around to other tailors more, but like many brides I've never had a formal gown altered in my life and we look to people who are supposed to be the experts for guidance and place trust in their recommendations and assessments. I appreciated the "free" additional work done as mentioned in the owner's response to my last comment. They didn't mention it or seek payment for it until after they did it so I assumed at the time that it was not labor intensive or was standard for them (again, average bride here - I don't know what is or is not standard service until someone tells me). I also appreciated that they were willing to email me back (and suggest a quick call) in response to a question I had after my second fitting. That seems like customer service, not anything noteworthy or worth special accolades, but maybe in the bridal tailoring industry the 5 minute call to answer my question really was *special*. Interestingly, I was told when I picked it up that they didn't have the equipment to press it and that's why it was so wrinkly particularly in the bodice (their refrain as I sobbed into the mirror was "everything will look good once it is pressed and you'll love it - go get it pressed somewhere else") so I'm surprised to see they say they did hand press it after all. The other "special things" they did to "accommodate" me were all things I asked about first and they said "yes no problem," with my full understanding they could have said no instead. When I canceled my second dress, I first asked the status to see if that would cause any issue / if adjustments had already been started - they said no! I ran about 5 minutes late for an appointment (event traffic in the neighborhood) and called in advance to ask if they needed me to reschedule, and they said no come ahead. I asked if my mom and mother in law could both come to my first fitting or if they had restrictions, and they said sure bring them both (only one guest came to my others). I asked to see my gown without my mask on for a few seconds at a time if they were comfortable, and I said no problem if not, and they said yes go ahead. Since I asked and they said yes, to have them listed in their comment as big favors or encumbrances they endured feels a little disingenuous and like they're trying to use average customer service practices as a defense against making errors in the basic in-scope tailoring services I was promised and signed agreement to. At the end of the day, to pay a whopping $950 to have the agreed-upon "in-scope" adjustments messed up and no discussion / willingness to fix them felt insane. My fixes with a better tailor, better customer service experience, plus additional work on things this place said were "impossible," all got done 2 weeks out from my wedding for about $800. And aside from just price, every bride/customer should have their concerns heard and taken care of when they pay for a service - I would have even been open to negotiating additional payment for the labor involved in fixing the errors to the "in-scope" work - when the customer is sobbing in your studio 2 weeks before their wedding because you messed up. The work here may normally be top notch, but brides should just know going in that they will not be treated with kindness or have any negotiation around having errors fixed in the event that the work isn't up to the usual standard. The lessons here should be in 1. Describing services and saying no to money if for some reason you can't do many things a customer asks for but know another tailor could, 2. Consistently delivering on those services, which *critically* includes being open to discussion/fixing when they are messed up, because everyone messes up sometimes, and 3. Allowing for appointment time and interpersonal communication that actually lets the person paying for the service see, absorb, and respond to the work being done while they are there in person, so that communication ultimately is more smooth and everyone ends up happier with the final result. read more

This review is a bit overdue but I'm still basking in newlywed bliss so better late than never. I reviewed Yelp to see if I could find a trusted and dependable tailor and I was not disappointed with the lovely mother/daughter duo. In fact, I really looked forward to going into the shop because they made the appointments so personable and fun! Now, on to the important stuff ... Due to work travel, I was a bit behind the curve in getting my wedding dress tailored and knew I was pushing things (a LOT) when I took my dress in to be fitted exactly one month before my wedding. Given Murphy's law, the dress that was purchased in a size too big was now so tight, I couldn't even pull the interior slip down. I was two minutes from tears - equal parts embarrassment, disappointment and fear given that I had less than a month before the wedding. These ladies pulled me together and convinced me that they could take things out and make it work. I was determined to drop some pounds and while they assured me that taking out the seams in a full-satin beautifully seamed dress would be best, I was equally determined to drop some pounds! A week and a half after the first fitting, I came in to try on my tailored dress and while the dress had been taken out, the workmanship was so amazing, you couldn't even tell!! However, I had now dropped some pounds and the dress was too big....so, they changed course and brought it in a bit for my next and (what should have been my) final appointment the very next week! Given how crazy things get before the wedding, I had managed to drop a few more pounds within the next week and the dress that they had just taken in (after having taken it out originally) was a bit too loose in the waist. I had a week before the wedding and 3 days before I left town and these ladies were committed to making sure that the dress was PERFECT and that they did! I picked up the dress the day before leaving town after some last minute alterations and it fit like a glove (that day and my wedding day!) I am so incredibly happy to have found this shop and the beautiful souls that made my dress everything I had hoped it would be on my wedding day. And my dress was all lace, an incredibly difficult tailoring situation- but it turned out BEAUTIFULLY, and they were so easy to work with and kind. My wedding dress turned out absolutely gorgeous, the details they suggested were just what I needed to take it over the top. I unfortunately have to leave this review to warn other brides about using this company for dress alterations. Below are details on my experience that, in summary, was marked by shockingly bad errors in the final alterations and poor customer service. The outcome of my alterations was so bad I felt I couldn't walk down the aisle in it as it was, and I had to take it to another tailor, Green & Blue Tailoring in DC, 2 weeks before my fitting (luckily they were able to fix it and make me feel beautiful on my wedding day!) My customer service experience was awful. I never expected to sob uncontrollably at my final fitting because the final alterations were so bad. I also never expected to essentially be told it was my fault because of the dress I chose, then rushed out the door while I was still sobbing, without any offer to fix the errors in their work. I wish I had taken/kept photos, but didn't think of it at the time. Errors in the alterations work, which were all fixed by Green & Blue and therefore clearly due to low-quality work: - The hem flipped up on both sides - Michelle said it was just caught on the carpeting, but it wasn't. - The straps were shortened more than the pinning in my second fitting, so that the waistline was too high and unflattering - The sides gaped near the bust - Michelle said it was due to the style of dress and that I'd have to use dress tape. I didn't need any on my wedding day after Green & Blue tailored it correctly. - Green & Blue was also able to fix other little things about the dress that Michelle had told me they couldn't fix, like a bump in the lace lining under the skirt and the material on the zipper. Customer service experience: I was SOBBING when I saw myself in my gown at my pick-up fitting. And I mean SOBBING. I couldn't stop. My mother told me later how shocked she was because she has never, in my life including in my childhood, seen me break down uncontrollably in public like that. I was crying even as I swiped my credit card. I was rushed through even though I was distraught, because another client was coming in (all appointments are max 20 minutes long, including changing in and out of your dress!). All Michelle offered was "you look gorgeous," "use boob tape," "this material was hard because it was not a new dress" (even though it was 100% silk with no embellishments and had not been used by a bride before...) and "it will all be better once the dress gets a good press" - NO offer to try to fix any issues even when I emailed her about a couple such as the hem once I got the dress home. She also said to me "After everything you've been through with your wedding dresses, you must just want to get your wedding over with!" even though I was SO thrilled and excited for my big day UNTIL I picked up the dress they'd altered. She said that because I at one point had brought in a second "reception dress" then changed my mind about using it. The suggestion that maybe it was MY fault I was unhappy with my dress because I clearly had had a change of heart about a totally separate dress months earlier was ridiculous, and the idea I'd "want my wedding over with" was hurtful to hear while I was crying about how ugly I felt in my poorly tailored wedding gown. Their terms and conditions they make you sign at your first appointment state that once you pick up the dress and take it off their premises, it's officially not their problem - so clearly she was trying to get me out the door with the dress so they wouldn't have to do any more work on it. I wrote Michelle once Green & Blue had committed to fixing everything about my dress, letting her know what the content of my review would be. I was hoping she might offer a partial refund since I had to pay a second tailor to fix their work, but was disappointed with her defensive response. Be warned - the tailoring quality is NOT worth the high price point, and if your tailoring experience doesn't go perfectly and you aren't 100% happy when you pick up your gown, this place will NOT take care of you the way others in this business will. read more

My soon to be bride and I both came here to get our wedding dresses altered and are thrilled with their work. Michelle and her mom are so easy to work with and the quality of their work is top notch. After a health scare forced me to put off my first fitting by about 6 weeks, Michelle went out of her way to work me into their schedule on a Sunday to ensure my dress would be ready in time for my wedding. The changes they made to my dress brought tears of happiness to my eyes, as the dress once altered gave me back that feeling of this being the one and only dress for me. Additionally, Michelle and her mom took the initiative to bustle my dress in a manner that makes me feel more secure walking and dancing in my dress, despite having a disability that affects my mobility. Even though I haven't seen my fiancé's dress yet, she has assured me that Michelle did a fabulous job fitting the dress to her body and accentuating her best assets. ;) I can't recommend them highly enough. Aside from actually marrying my husband, working with Michelle and Diane was the absolute best part of the entire wedding process. I was so nervous about buying a dress that was clearly many sizes too big for me, and they transformed it completely--adding cups, taking up the shoulders, adjusting the waist, literally hemming feet off of it, adding a bustle, and more--making me fall in love with my dress. Their website is user-friendly and easy to book appointments, their store is sparkling clean and offers belts/accessories/brassy bras as well, and the fitting/pick up process could not be easier! These ladies are simply amazing. They consistently go above and beyond to make everything dress-related as easy and beautiful as possible. With only a day's notice, they also added a fitting for my sister's bridesmaid dress! I cannot recommend Befitted enough. From the minute I walked in for my first fitting to the day I took my dress home with me, I felt like I was treated as their only client. They were so warm and welcoming and very detailed in their assessment of what needed to be done that I was confident I placed my dress in the right hands. These two women are FABULOUS!! They were complete saviors for me when it came to altering my dress. I found them online and saw all the positive reviews--contacted them ASAP but didn't realize they usually like to see you at least 4 months before your wedding date. Due to unforeseen circumstances that occurred in my life, Diane and Michelle were the sweetest of people to "fit" me in. They are both exceptionally good at what they do and greet you like they've known you forever! I definitely put them through the ringer with my dress and it's size, but they made my dream come true even the ungodly amount of hand-sewn buttons were added to my train which, at the time, I was willing to do without due to the time crunch! This place is truly magic! Michelle and Diane were phenomenal and I couldn't be happier with my experience. I booked my appointment online on their website which was super easy and convenient since all of their availability is on their calendar. Their shop is super adorable and cozy, which made me feel comfortable during the process since it was one-on-one. They walked me through all the repairs on my dress top to bottom and made sure I felt good about the fit of my dress.
