I haven't needed anything tailored since moving to VA, so I was little nervous trying to find a reliable seamstress for a bridesmaid dress. I'm so lucky to have found SWANK! They did such a great job on my dress, and they had It ready in 4 days since I needed It for a wedding that weekend. So kind and accommodating. I went in and they had me try on the dress and asked what I needed altered. I wanted It about 6 inches shorter in length and I needed the straps adjusted. (Hint for anyone getting a dress altered, make sure you wear the shoes you plan on wearing with the dress for the most accurate alterations!) I liked how she checked in with me multiple times to make sure I was satisfied with the proposed alterations. I didn't feel rushed at all. The process took less than 10 minutes and I paid the day of the fitting. She also offered that I could pay at pick up if I wanted, so It's nice to know that's an option. Prices were pretty standard. $90 for the length and straps. In my experience that's within the normal range for alterations on a fancy dress. I went in to pick up and the process was seamless (no pun intended :) ) I highly recommend them for gowns, and from the looks of their store, they must do a great job on suits as well! I had an early week wedding right after a holiday weekend and Swank knocked it out of the park! I had 2 dresses and a skirt altered that they did not problem with a quick turnaround and reasonable prices. Not to mention stellar customer service and a lovely shop. Just don't park in the Pizza Hut parking lot- they're friendly enough to let you know so you don't get towed. Went to Swank to get my bridesmaid dress, some pants, and a suit tailored. It was a fast process with them taking measurements and I got all my stuff back in 2 weeks. They did a great job with the hemming! The owners were also super friendly and knowledgeable about where to hem my dress based on the type of wedding (inside vs outside). Then you give said jumpsuit to Swank USA and insist that it be altered in 2 days (because you may or may not need it for a wedding coming up that weekend) and they come through in the required timeline. 4.5 stars for an excellent tailoring experience. Unlike restaurants, finding tailor recommendations isn't as easy as just doing a simple Yelp or Google search. This is especially true whenever you move to a new city. Fortunately, one of the better aspects of Yelp is making connections with people who know the city and can make those tougher recommendations. That's how I was able to get a recommendation from Yelp DC's CM, Kimberly, to check out Swank USA for my tailoring needs. Swank USA is a small shop located over on Columbia Pike (beware that there is no parking at the shop, so you will need to park on a side street about a block away). I called in advance to set up a noon appointment on a Saturday to have each of my 6 suits and 15 pairs of pants reviewed for tailoring and hemming. I arrived for my appointment and was immediately created by a man and a woman and ushered to the back to put on my first suit for review. After changing into the suit, I came out to the large mirror in the center of the store and the lady reviewed me in the suit. She asked several questions about styles (and gave recommendations when I didn't know) and marked various measurements and adjustments to be made. She repeatedly assured me not to hurry and made me feel comfortable throughout the entire 2 hour review. After finishing with the reviews, I sat down with the gentleman as he went through the cost for each alteration (including a few alterations he was throwing in for free due to my large order). While the several hundred dollar overall cost for all of the alterations was a large number (to a non-rich person), the cost for all of the work was actually very reasonable and less than the cost of a one tailored suit at many other locations. After about 2 weeks for my pants and 4 weeks for my suits (which I was told was longer than normal due to one of their tailors being out of the country), I came back to pick up my clothes. We went through the same process again of trying on each item and making sure the alterations were correct (in fact, a couple pants were off, so they held on to them to make the corrections without any additional charge). All of my clothes looked fantastic. Additionally, Swank USA stands behind all of its work, so I was told I could bring back any item that has any alteration problem and they would fix it. Such great work combined with the confidence to stand behind said work really took the experience to the next level. Overall, Swank USA provided me with an excellent tailoring experience. The attention both to me and to the work for such reasonable prices and solid guarantees make this a tailor worthy of the highest of recommendations. read more

Swank had great reviews and was close to home, so I decided to try it out and wasn't disappointed. The owner is super nice and had me in and out in 5 minutes. I came back ~1.5 weeks later (told her I wasn't in a rush) and picked up my coat. The sleeves were tailored to the perfect length and now it looks so much more put together. I don't have much experience getting clothes tailored - OK, lezbehonest. I'm a 24 year old young professional from a small collegetown who went to school in an even smaller collegetown, and I'm not ridiculously rich or anything. So I had never gotten something custom tailored til a couple months ago. I was to attend my first wedding (friend of my bf's), and I had painstakingly found the perfect dress. "Found" is a loose term - it was one of those times when the world seems to be against you, and you find what you're looking for when you're least expecting it: in some vintage no-body shop when you had just spent the last 8 hours on your feet scouring the Woodbury Outlets in the drizzling rain. "Perfect" is what I imagined the dress to be once the waist was taken in, ever so slightly. Now if you're still reading and wondering why I've rambled so, I hope you see my train of thought. I could NOT ruin this dress. The wedding was a week away and it had to, just had to be tailored perfectly. I scoured Yelp for help (oh hey that rhymes!) and found this place. Few reviews, but sparkling all around. When I went there they asked me my intentions, and pinned the dress while I wore it until we got the exact fit I wanted. I came back a week later, tried it on, and right then and there I knew that this would be the only tailor I would ever use in D.C. I'm not sure what prices are normally for tailoring dresses, but they charged me around 40 bucks, and I gladly coughed up for the job they did. And the night I had at the wedding? I came here to get my clothes hemmed for work. I was going to be reimbursed, so I was more concerned about getting it done right rather than the price point of what it would cost to get it done. Swank is literally down the street from my house, so I also chose this location due to the convenient location. Highly rated on Yelp -- Check! Convenient location -- Check! Quick and accurate fixes -- Check! I had to have quite a few alternations done to my pants ($45). First I had to have them taken in, shorten them, and I had them put in a whole new band for the waist. I asked if they could do it -- and by golly success. They did just that without any issues. My jacket ($75) needed some alternations as well plus my skirt ($30). I stopped in on Tuesday to get them measured and dropped off. They told me to come in on Thursday to do the first fitting, and everything would be ready by Saturday late afternoon. When I went in on Thursday, I did not even need a second fitting. Everything was complete in two days. They were quick and right on point. I was thrilled to see I could get it taken care of right then and there without another visit! For all the time and effort they put it in to get it done in such a timely manner makes the money spent worth it. My manager nearly choked when I brought him the receipt for my alternation reimbursement, but after he saw the uniform on me -- he gave me the thumbs up. Job well done to Swank USA Inc.! read more

I had a cheap Forever21 dress that needed alterations (hem in back was pulling the fabric) and wanted to get it fixed for an upcoming wedding. This is right down the street from my house so I thought I'd try them out. When I initially dropped off the dress, the lady quoted me $5-10 to fix it. When the tailor himself called me the following Monday, he said it'd be $30. I told him the dress wasn't worth it so I'd pick it up. By the time I got back to do so, I reconsidered based on the amount of work he'd have to do (undoing the entire back seam, realigning/patching the lining, etc.) so I asked that they go ahead with it. I had it back a week later and it looks great. I appreciate that they were able to get it done so quickly, even after my change of heart. read more

Friendly owners. I love Ma & Pa establishments. The lay out of the shop makes you want to buy suits for every loved one you'd like to see in a well-crafted suit. Very accommodating, they are gonna prioritise my suit in time for the wedding with no fuss. I was also measured for a custom shirt which will be ready the same day as the suit. Deciding to get a custom shirt was more harrowing than I thought. The patience, expertise and assistance I experienced while picking out the fabric, colour, and styling of my custom shirt was top notch and sprinkled with a beautiful smile. The couple worked together as a great team. I felt welcomed, unrushed, and at ease. All in all the alterations were a bit pricey and you pay in advance. But, I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" and good craftsmanship is not cheap. As a DJ, I know what my art and my skill set is worth, so I respect the skill set and aptitude of others. Had some pants (5!) brought in to have altered. Price was higher than some of the dry cleaning places around that do them but the quality was better. Used actual thread and the right colors and the lengths were perfect (compared to the clear plastic thread I've seen others use). They also can create custom suits here (not sure about shirts but I would assume so). I asked about the prices for suits and they were well within expectations. Will be heading here in the future for my alteration needs. (It's in the spot Journey Yoga used to be in until the moved across the street to the new plaza where the Giant is). read more

Their shop is very pleasant, for example, there's a spacious and comfortable room in which to chance (which you don't get at a dry cleaner's). I needed to replace all of my work pants, so I hunted for another place, read all of the great reviews here and tried Swank USA. I've had pants hemmed at many different tailors in the DC / Arlington area; they all did a mediocre or terrible job and charged the standard DC prices of $20 to $25. Swank charges $19 for the hems I needed (their prices are posted in the store). I brought in 6 pairs of slacks and 1 pair of hiking pants (which needed special elastic thread). They were friendly, helpful and thorough during the measurement process (tried on all 7 pairs and had them marked). The hems are all perfectly done and look great with a solid quality stitch and are holding up nicely. I highly recommend them. read more

They are so friendly, professional, and remember me when I walk in. Most importantly, they do a great job and I trust them and their suggestions. Even though there is no parking assigned to Swank customers nearby, I always find spots in meter locations (bring quarters) or on the street. If you're not taking your suits here to get tailored, you're doing yourself a disservice. Skip the in-house tailor where you buy your suits. Bring them straight to Swank USA. I made the mistake of waiting 10 days for in-house tailoring, then had to ask Swank to rush corrections. They were totally cool about it, saved the day, and I got the job. I felt absolutely comfortable at their location. They help you with suggestions, but they are in no way pushy. I plan on going back soon and getting some custom shirts, which I understand are $70 per. When you consider what a non-custom shirt at a department store costs, $70 for custom is a steal. I had originally given two stars because they had done average work before and it's near my house. I changed my mind after they called me and told me to pick up my items because they were upset about a negative review. Instead of proving they can do good work, they asked I pick up my items. People who do good work will stand behind their craftsmanship. As a side note, There is a cleaners next to giant that did the work for five dollars less and it was really well done. It was also done in a timely manner. If you need a suit made, swank might be your place. If you're looking quality, timely work done by professionals, I'd go anywhere else.
