I've driven by this place many times but finally decided to stop in. It's connected to a convenience store and located close to the Avon library. The parking lot had plenty of spots available when I went. There were some seating in the middle. There were quite a few patrons there around lunch. I was able to purchase half a dozen of donuts and two cookies. They were fresh and delicious. They also sell breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The employee was friendly and service was good. The old Luke's Donuts were first introduced to me by a cohort back in 2012-2017. These donuts were BIG PUFFY, and piled high with oozing flavor. Definitely, a monumental challenge to eat more than two in the same sitting. The more recently Luke's Donuts is under new ownership and they have reshaped the donuts to a more reasonable size, not eye popping like old, but served with pride and a huge smile. With open armed service and warm greeting how could one complain. Every time I drive by my taste buds start an argument with my better judgement. Tastebuds generally win. While still making donuts their menu has changed. They no longer make calzones and they only make pizzas on certain days which you don't know about until checking with them . They do now make gyros but they are made on a grill like Steak-ums versus slicing off the spit in the traditional manner . read more

Our family stopped by there last week and picked up a dozen donuts. We have been hearing so many good things about Luke's that we had to try them for ourselves. I must say people were not wrong the variety of the styles of the donuts we got were out of this world. We did not go in there with a gameplay or strategy. Once you walk in you get hit with the smell of sugar.....AND THATS A GREAT THING BY THE WAY. We told them to chose for us a dozen donuts we got the usual suspects glazed, chocolate glazed....but one that blew me away was the cinnamon swirl donut. Luke's is truly an Avon local classic and staple. Like others have said, it's been around forever with every middle schooler venturing over to buy a donut before going to the library, and has stayed old school. It's not a flashy or trendy place bc it's a hardworking family owned business that you know is reliable. Main points about Luke's: simple, classic, and CHEAP! But pretty good quality. Homemade right on the spot sandwiches for $6, a dozen of made that day sweet with a lil crunch donuts for $12, and delicious and filling sandwiches for $6-8. I stopped in for a cup of coffee and I wanted decaf. Server immediately threw a pot on and told me it would just be a minute or two, It didn't take any time at all, and he gave me a few munchkins for the inconvenience. Luke's isn't an instagram-able pop up shop and their donuts aren't sprinkled with bacon or contain exotic flavor combinations. What they do have here is unique, though. Their donuts are truly old fashioned in the best way possible. Their chocolate glazed donuts have a distinct crunch to the exterior and a rich and moist cakey interior. Once you have a donut from Luke's and then have one from Dunkin, you will completely understand. The Dunkin donut will feel flat and lifeless in your mouth and you'll remember that distinct crunch of a Luke's donut. I promise you'll come back for a donut from Luke's. read more

I feel like Luke's is definitely an institution - people kept coming in, knowing exactly what they wanted or just wanted donuts. They only have chocolate donut holes? Great, box them up, it's all good for the customer in question! A couple craving milkshakes knew they were going to get exactly what they wanted, and what flavor to order a friend. There's even a cute little counter to sit at, you can't get more classic as an institution! This, however, was my first time to Luke's. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, which actually worked out really well because they were not heavily seasoned and my poor stomach was craving such food. However, on a normal day the fries would have been undercooked to me. The donuts were fun - there must be a mob in the morning, because the pickings were sparse. There was but one cereal donut left! They were a little dry, possibly because the room they were stored in had no AC and just a box fan. But they weren't greasy or overly sweet, and the men in charge (possibly father and son) were friendly and accommodating. Great service! read more

(Billy Preston) I just Googled "Connecticut Donut Trail" and up popped a March 18,  2021 web posting that had Luke's Donuts clocking in at #7 That's pretty high praise don't you think? Luke's goes WAY BACK to 1947, and it's very awesome to know that this local donut shop has withstood the crush of national donut chains, maintained their local identity, and still crank out some really delicious and super reasonably priced donuts. We swung by today and walked out with a Honeybun and an Old Fashioned Donut for the rock bottom price of a buck apiece. My Old Fashioned was great - soft and cake-like on the inside with just a tad of crunch on the outside. Truly one of life's simple pleasures. They also have pizza, sandwiches and breakfast fare if you're in the mood for more than a donut. Service was friendly and courteous, and our whole consumer experience was a pleasure. read more

It's fine. It's superrrrr old school and I don't think they've changed a thing since the 60s or whenever it was first opened. The only thing that's maybe changed is the prices, but even then it couldn't possibly be by much, because this place seems to live in a vacuum outside of the cost of living around it. A breakfast sandwich for $3.75? Unheard of. You can get a full scale continental breakfast for under $10. Donuts only Tun you $1.25 a piece. They do take card with no minimum, and the guy working the counter is so sweet albeit very quiet. The usual patrons are a mix of extremely elderly senior citizens sitting at the counter and middle schoolers popping in after school for a cheap treat. The food? Acceptable. It's not the best breakfast sandwich in town by any means, but it's hot and it's cheap. The donuts are sugar bombs and a little greasy, but definitely hit the spot when you need something sweet. Overall, it's charming, but when I think of good food in town Luke's isn't on my list. read more

oh. wow. if I had bit into the donut before I left id have ordered a dozen.. Story time.. I pulled over to safely use my phone while driving, and decided this mom & pop place looked like they'd have a decent cup of coffee.. Walked in, smelled the fresh baked donuts, and table of locals who look like they've met here every Monday for the past 40 years. Small town vibes from the doorway. Who can turn down a fresh donut, right? Ordered a coffee and a pair of donuts.... Chocolate frosted if that matters. 20 minutes later at work, I finally bite into one of them.. DEAR GOD IN ALL THINGS HEAVENLY IS THIS WHAT A DONUT IS SUPPOSED TO TASTE LIKE?! I have no real friends. How have none of you enlightened me?! im canceling everyone's Christmas cards. This pains me to write. I grew up going to Luke's Donuts. I played on the Luke's little league team back in the 80's, and we won a few championships as I recall. It was an honor to play for Luke's because it was undoubtedly an institution in Avon. After about 25 years I returned to Avon and the first thing i wanted to do was go to Luke's. I figured that even with all the changes in the world, Luke's would be the same. I mean, why mess with perfection? Why change a place that was beloved by a community? Well, I was wrong. Lukes has changed and not for the better. I'll spare you every detail but the changes are obvious. Lukes is dirty. The donut racks have tons of crumbs, old donuts are stacked to the side waiting to be thrown away, and there are stacks of soda/iced tea in cans around the counters. From a taste perspective the glazed is still great, but Lukes used to have fresh bread and fresh coffee cake. It was incredible. Now the items look smaller, and drier, and frankly, cheap. It appears the owners decided to try to sell pizza and other items. Maybe they lost their focus? I don't know. It's always sad to watch an institution on its last legs. It would not be hard to bring this place back to its glory. Just clean the place up, stick to what you know (donuts and bakery items), and take it seriously. I've passed by Luke's for years and have always thought, "I should stop here" but never have. Enough was enough and I had to do it. And I'm so glad I did! This is a very solid donut shop and certainly has a a place in my donut shop rankings. Their old-fashioned donuts are completely my style: slightly dense, a little crunch, no icky oil taste, holds up well after a day or so. Plus, they're $1 so you cannot go wrong. In general, I am not a fan of yeast donuts but will have one from time to time. The yeast donuts here weren't great overall and the jelly inside the jelly-filled wasn't my style. It's a small store front and the only donut place in Avon. They have donuts on display and counter area for seating. The owners are very helpful and friendly. Donuts are reasonably priced. We tried a variety if cake and yeast donuts with different glazes. I wasn't particularly wowed by any of the donuts. So being someone picky about sweets, I won't be back. But I can definitely see how others would enjoy it for hanging out or just a quick bite. read more

So unlike other reviewers I was not impressed. I came here after a friend highly recommended them for their donut holes. I read a recent review that said the establishment changed hands so perhaps the recipe changed; or maybe I'm just not a fan of overly sugary donuts With a gritty texture that aren't fully cooked and slightly on the oilier side inside. 6 donut holes run you $1.50. Upon walking in there were 6 people inside and no one to be found at the register. Behind me 5 more walked in so it's obvious people like the place, but it just wasn't for me. The place is small and hard to move about with that many people. The staff (once they appeared) were not overly friendly or welcoming and the person that waited on me I am not entirely sure was even 16. Unfortunately this was my first and last visit. read more

To be honest, I waited in the car with our puppy while my husband went in. He immediately became texting me.. "Wonderful place," "Two nice brothers running it," and "In business for 20 years." Came back telling me nice the family atmosphere is, with two cheerful and smiling brothers running the cash register. Tried Luke's today for the first time. I got a egg and cheese on a bagel and a dozen donut holes. It was very inexpensive for the area and that was a nice surprise. The guy behind the counter was kind. The only part of being in side that bothered me is I was the only person wearing a mask. There was like 8 guys sitting around, not eating with no mask on and the guy working didn't have his mask on. I watched multiple people walk in and get food with no mask on. There were some people who came in with masks on, but I was surprised that the no mask seemed to be the normal. For the food, the sandwich was a basic sandwich. It was good and satisfied my breakfast craving. The donut holes are good but definitely very greasy. Especially the glazed. Very delicious though. One docked one star because it seemed like no one cared that we are still in a pandemic. But to each their own I guess. read more

This is a small (and pretty basic) take away + diner-esk spot. They have a bunch of basic breakfast and lunch options, and their is some seating around a large U shaped communal table. I like this place. The donuts were good, simple and what you'd expect from an old-school donut shop. It's really close to my home, so I'm sure I'll be back, but I'm not sure if I got funny looks from the group of men hanging out in the store because I was wearing a mask, or because my mask was funny.... Total lackluster. It may just be me, but with a name like Luke's I guess I was expecting to be transported to Stars Hollow (Gilmore Girls). The feel of the place is more convenience store than breakfast or coffee spot. Having arrived early in the morning I expected to see more of a variety of donuts. Luke's is an unpretentious local donut and coffee shop that sells delicious sausage and egg breakfast sandwiches along with friendliness and great donuts! The restaurant is small but using a u-shaped counter allows the locals (and everyone else) a seat to sip coffee, read the paper and talk about the weather and whatever else you'd like. The two men (father and son?) who run the place make you feel right at home, have great smiles and it is apparent they know their regulars likes and dislikes! The menu is limited and the falafel is, according to the menu posted on the wall, served on a roll rather than pita which was disappointing but there seems to be something for just about everyone. The donuts may not be as good as Allie's in Rhode Island, but they come pretty darn close in flavor and texture. My cousins in Avon, CT love Luke's as do some of my former colleagues who used to work in the area! Final answer: 4.5 stars! read more
