I have enjoyed Fancy Bagels for many years. Most recently I have been stopping by on the occasional Wednesday to pickup for my work tradition of Bagel Wednesday. Service is always speedy. It is your trust bagel shop with few tables and chairs and the beautiful wafting smell of bacon on the griddle. They always have a good playlist going and the bagels are very good. The bagels here are incredible! Best breakfast sandwich you'll have for miles! The downside is the absolutely awful staff. I tell everybody that if they go to fancy bagel, to expect a wonderful breakfast and to leave with a bad taste in their mouth. Let's start at the top. When you walk in, do not expect a friendly greeting. Most of the time you can expect to wait in line with no acknowledgement until you can wave someone down. More often than not, I get a "blank stare" or an eye roll. Occasionally, a scowl. These girls are professionals at keeping their back to the register so you can't even get their attention. There have been days where it takes more than 10/15 minutes to ask if I can order. I don't mind when it comes to me, but I genuinely feel bad when I see it happen to the elderly or foreign language speakers or special needs folks. They'll just stand there forever not being helped at all. If you do get acknowledged it'll be in a monotone and annoyed manner. I should stop here to say that I have not been to fancy bagel once or twice. I've been going on and off consistently since 2020ish (it's close to a college I went to and later worked at.) Usually I go until I get fed up with something, then stop visiting for a while. The last time I went I left almost in tears. A woman was having a hard time ordering, and the clique of girls behind the counter was looking at each other with exaggerated expressions of confusion, looking back and forth to one another dumbfounded, then laughed at her!! I caught her outside as we were leaving and apologized for the rude service workers.. guess what- she was hard of hearing! When I realized they were laughing at a woman who (in her words) was going deaf, I left with an awful pit in my stomach and cried on the way to work. I wish I had said something to her while inside, so I could have at least paid for her meal or something. Anyways, it's not just the lack of service. It's the rude service. The business is busy, so I'm not saying the girls don't work hard. They're working incredibly hard! It just stinks that they treat people so horribly in there. Ignoring folks is one thing, laughing at them and making fun of them is another. I do want to say-- if you are a man between the ages of 18 and 50... you will love it in there! They know that that'll get tipped better if they flirt with men, so that is their biggest priority!!! I've heard it on more than one occassion. They go above and beyond to remember a man's name and order. Many times I have stood there, jaw on the floor, because I'm being actively ignored and not helped, but Mark or Andrew walk in and get a big 'ole warm welcome. And then I walk up to the counter and get what I can only describe as a cold dead stare. I could go on forever. These girls are just not nice. A little out of the way location, but every Thursday morning, weather permitted, hot rods gather for bagels and coffee. So I took my hot rod down on this beautiful Thursday morning to Fancy Bagles on the Bristol Farmington line, Rt 6. My order for an everything bagel, toasted and buttered, and a medium coffee called "the commuter special" cost $4.49. Such a deal! It just seemed like everybody, including the workers and the guests were so happy in here. Quickly, my bagel arrived, toasted with just the perfect amount of butter on it. I think this bagel was toasted and buttered with love! Absolutely delicious! I had my choices of coffee at the coffee station, which Fancy Bagels offers. There were many wonderful flavor choices. I chose the hazelnut, with milk. It was a wonderful choice. This is definitely a must try, and excellent choice if you happen to be driving by on your way to work or to a destination in the morning. I would say Thursday mornings are bonus, viewing all the beautiful hot rods that are parked in the corner of the parking lot. read more

I have been to the southington location and it has always been a pleasure, so I assumed that this location would meet the same standards. There was a blonde lady working constantly complaining about her job and other workers in the store. I understand that food service is not an easy job but it was disrupting the restaurant environment. I made me uncomfortable because I think she may have been drunk on the job. she was constantly talking about drinking mentioning to other people I believe were customers or friends. Regardless, I don't think my daughters will be coming inside with me anymore if the workers are going to be intoxicated. read more

This place was amazing! Gave that small bagel shop feel but creates some of the most decadent and flavorful creations. I cannot lie when I say these are some of the best bagels I have ever eaten. This was my first time there and the staff was very friendly. They helped me navigate their menu, bagel flavors, and specialty cream cheeses. They suggested many flavor combinations and I'm glad they did because I would not have been able to come up with these unique choices myself. I got the Chocolate Chip Bagel with Cannoli Cream Cheese, Golden Bagel with Pistachio Cream Cheese, Sweet Cinnamon Bagel with Bacon, Egg, and Cheese, and the Blueberry French Toast Bagel with Sausage, Egg, and Cheese - the perfect mix of savory and sweet. All of them were AMAZING but my personal favorite was the Cannoli Cream Cheese - literally cannoli filling in a bagel, cannot get better than that. I looked up places on my way to work and this was the right move!!! Soooo many bagel options and cream cheese options to choose from. I love my Asiago flavored bagels so I went with this (I'll have to try other flavors next time). The toasted texture gives it a delicious crunch and soft on the inside filled with flavorful veggie cream cheese. As someone who visits Fancy Bagels occasionally over the years, I can say I used to love every visit there with warm welcomes and amazing bagels for breakfast. This place has changed only for the worse and the customer service is one of the worst that I've seen. When I walked into Fancy Bagels 5 minutes before closing wanting just one bagel, and I was not only gazed at with annoyed stares but was refused to be served after being laughed at for being unaware of their closing time. This wasn't the first time this has happened to me mind you this is now the second. I wasn't able to order one bagel while I watched countless couples enjoying their food around the restaurant. Additionally, there was no apology for the inconvenience all that was said was a rude "we're closed!" Followed by an eye roll as I walked out of the store, frustrated by the customer service. Best bagels in CT. I've been going to Fancy Bagels for over 5 years now. I've tried multiple bagels but now get the same thing every time- Sal's Special on a golden bagel (cornmeal bagel) with jalapeño cream cheese. It is delicious. The bagel is crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. The lox is fresh and they give you a good amount! Most importantly, the jalapeño cream cheese is actually a little spicy! I've tried numerous bagel places but none have actually included spices with the jalapeño in a jalapeño cream cheese! Overall: 10/10 bagel. The service is great. A good amount of the staff know me by name and order. They know multiple other regulars too! Fancy Bagels has a community of regular that they service each week with their delicious bagels. We came here a bit too late around noon and they were out of the majority of the flavors. I opted for a plain bagel and cream cheese to test out the basics. The bagel was just the right amount of soft chewiness and well toasted! My husband tried their Smokey sandwich and he enjoyed it as well. The service was simple and quick. Don't walk, RUN!! AWAYY!!!!! From this place at all costs. We went on Saturday morning and ordered two bagels toasted with cream cheese. There were probably 15-20 other people in the place waiting around, sitting on their phones, with no food at all. Many people walked up and complained and said they had waited around an hour for their order. There were paper signs that said "Please be patient, new system in order to help with flow of orders" OKAY that's fine but it should also say "Expect to wait 30+ minutes." I understand you only have a certain number of people cooking because it is a small place, but the girls behind the counter seemed like they were working hard but no orders were being sent out. We waited 40 minutes for our two bagels. We might as well have ordered our lunch while we were at it. read more

This is always our first stop when we come to CT on an early flight. Over the last few visits during this trip there is one particular NEW employee who we have witnessed being rude to many customers while waiting for our bagels. Other customers commented to each other about her while waiting as well. Today she pushed me over the edge. The place was not busy, and she was completely rude to me for absolutely no reason. This employee definitely should not be customer facing. I'll speak to Sal myself if she's still working there the next time we are in town. Was ignored for 10 minutes and when finally tried to make order was told to move to the right orders are on that side and we have a new system and a sign now. Apparently I missed that part because they let everyone else go in front of me making there orders first, and than finally took my two bagel order. Oh, and on the way out the most rude girl behind the counter thought I left and said don't let the door hit your on the way out and yelled at me as I was leaving when I turned around to tell her she was very rude, after I heard her comment. Despite having six people behind the counter, the wait at this location is horrible, the food is good, but if you don't have at least a half hour to wait for your order, don't even bother.
