Decided to hunt down a few different locations and this one popped up in the hunt. Location is a small space in a little plaza. Staff was friendly, recommended the strawberry donut. Price was 2 bucks a donut, so towards the higher side. Donut was fresh, dense with a heavy sugar shell and a strong artificial strawberry flavor. Not bad, but I prefer the lighter yeasty style donuts than the denser, sugar laden ones. As a local donut shop, it's good. The quality is there, but the donuts are not my style. Today was a treat day, and I wanted to come here for a donut! I have a few friends who've been here, and they highly recommend the place. My BF got an iced coffee, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We grabbed an assortment of donuts to try, since it was our first time here. Their cinnamon rolls are huge, and it was nice and cinnamon-ey which I love. I also got the cruller to enjoy later. Now, to me, a cruller is nice and airy with a hint of crispness in the edges and a moist center. This was more like an old fashioned donut made into a twist, and it is probably one of the best old fashioned donut I have had ever! Nicely glazed, but that dough ... chef's kiss! We also grabbed their chocolate frosted and a Boston cream to share with our son. The employees are super nice and helpful. Only downside is they only serve coffee - iced or hot. It looks like what you want a vintage donut shop to look like. Swiches shares its space with a CPA I believe, and each store front has 70s metal benches in front of them. There's also a drive up around the building, so watch traffic. The interior also is very 70s, with tables, booths, and even little bar stools on the side. They serve Coke products from a cooler, and have a wall of donuts and bagels. The bagels range from tradition with sprinkles to newer varieties with fruity pebbles. I've visited twice in the past 9 months, including this week. Swiches, which used to be Whole Donut, has a great overall Yelp rating. After seeing the name in Yelp search results, I have to confess that I assumed Swiches was an abbreviation for sandwiches and that Swiches was a sandwich shop. On my first visit, I remember being surprised when I arrived in the afternoon to discover Swiches is primarily a donut shop. I bought a cherry donut and a bagel on that first visit. I remember thinking that the Cherry Donut was outstanding and the bagel was decent. I forgot to leave a review. Instead of scrolling through all my pics to leave a proper review, I just returned this week and took new pics. My cherry donut (like a glazed blueberry donut) this week was good, but not as good as I remember. The outer and inner texture weren't quite as good. I would guess it was made that day, but it didn't seem quite as fresh. My son gave me a couple bites of his Bacon Egg and Cheese on an Everything Bagel. The bagel was better than I remember. It was a pretty good BEC. There is seating inside and they also have a drive thru. The seating area does not have a lot of space in between tables and seats, and seats and other seats. I'm not sure everybody would find the seating comfortable. Swiches is a good donut shop and certainly better than the most common national donut chain in terms of donuts and BEC's. For me, it doesn't rise to 5 Star territory for CT donuts though. Four Stars read more

This place used to have some of the best melt in your mouth donuts I have ever had. I went there today. I took a bite of a maple flavored one and I had to spit it out and I threw the rest away it was disgusting. The flavor of the donut was horrible and it was crispy on the outside you could taste it was undercooked on the inside. I can get better donuts at Dunkin' which isn't saying much. I've stopped here a few times since my initial review. The coffee is hit or miss, it's not always fresh or consistent with the amount of cream or sugar added. The donut holes always have a bit of a crisp as if they're a bit overfried which I like but may not be for everyone. They also have cherry donut holes which is different so if you're a cherry fan, give those a try! The whole donuts they sell are also tasty. I've never had an issue in regards to the service & it seems to be family owned. The inside is dated but it always appears to be clean. Overall, it's decent compared to other chains.. COVID-19 era review: Dunkin Donuts has friendly folks, but it was right for them to drop "donuts" from their name. That and their coffee tastes like being late to work. Hence we came here instead. We still found friendly folks, our breakfast sandwich was made quick...and the donuts are glorious. Don't make your brain ache trying to pick 1-2, just make it a half dozen and share. We found pumpkin spice and apple cider, perfect for the approach of fall. The raspberry jelly was loaded, and the sour cream has a nice hint of savory. Blueberry cake was out but cherry cake donut was a great alternative. They didn't have dark roast coffee iced, but regular was spot on. There isn't any indoor seating right now, the view of the donut gallery isn't diminished by the Plexiglass over the register, and please do wear as mask like the sign on the door says. Was in from out of town! Always make it a mission to try coffee shops that aren't a national known chain! Decided to stop here on my last day and was disappointed! I'm at a solid 3.5. To be fair, there weren't many options left by the time I arrived. I had the chocolate glazed with coconut, a classic glazed, and a coffee curler. Both the chocolate glazed with coconut and the classic glazed were just okay- they definitely weren't as good as I was hoping. The coffee curler was really good and the best item we tried. Ambience, and customer service were average. There is a drive thru which is awesome for a small shop like this. The definitive ranking of my Sunday donut haul: (1) Cruller -- if you love buttermilk donuts for their craggy exteriors, you'll love the cruller. The fact that these were rectangular and bar-like meant they had extra surface area for those coveted crunchy bits. This was so good that I think this may be my new favorite donut. (5/5) (2)Jelly Cruller -- exactly like the cruller but filled with jelly. (5/5) (3) Cherry cake -- this one is good if you love cherries. I tried it only because it had received high praise in other Yelp reviews. It had great texture, but I have since realized I am just not a fan of that artificial cherry flavor. (4/5) (4) Sour cream -- had the potential to be fantastic, but appeared to be poorly made. When we bit into it, we noticed chunks of what appeared to be bleached flour inside the donut. I found this one to be much denser than sour cream donuts I've had elsewhere, but I would give this another try to determine whether this incident was an isolated one. (2/5) (5) Apple fritter -- this was a complete misnomer. It had the size and heft of a cinnamon roll and the filling of an apple pie and was nothing like your typical apple fritter. Stopped by Sunday for the first time. Had seen the good reviews in yelp so I finally decided to go. It's a small location in Berlin. Very easy to get to. The donut selection is very good. I opted for the apple cider, sour cream and chocolate sprinkles and also got a large iced coffee. The large iced coffee seemed a bit on the small side compared to Dunkin or McDonald's iced coffees. It was good so no complaints on the quality. The donuts were very good, the sour cream was my favorite of the three. You can tell the owner takes pride in making the donuts. While Neil's donuts is still the king of donuts for me, the whole donut is definitely right up there. I will be stopping by again in the future. read more

The Whole Donut reminded me of Dunkin' Donuts back in the late 80's/early 90's before they became super corporate and spreaded like a wildfare across the U.S. Why? Because they just pretty much had donuts and coffee; very simple menu, which I liked. The donuts were HUGE (see my photo) and there were more of a variety. It felt like it was a local hangout because I was there at 11:30 a.m. and there was a group of friendly old men reminiscing and watching Price is Right. While driving with my children it occurred to me that every time I drive past The Whole Donut my mind repeats a dumb little joke about only wanting half a donut but I had never actually tried their donuts. While the shop was clean and the proprietor cheerful it was the donuts that stopped me in my tracks. We didn't show up for our treats until about 1pm. I am quite familiar with the shelf life of donuts and the fact that bakery businesses do most of their business in the wee hours of the morning and are oft sold out early. This is why I was surprised to see that there were still options, approximately 1/2 of the types of donuts they offered were still available to us at 1pm. Another surprise: they weren't stale, not at all! If I go into DD at 1pm I know I'll be purchasing a stale donut for sure! These donuts are huge! We got 4 donuts for $5 and I really think it was a great price! The old fashioned donut was moist and the sprinkle donut thoroughly delighted my youngest daughter!
