Having lived 1 block from Luke's in NYC I felt I would be able to make a valid comparison to an East Coast one. Well I wasn't disappointed. The lobster roll tasted just as good as my memory of the one back east. The lobster was plentiful in the bed of a toasted top split bun. BEWARE... My wife and I visited Luke's Lobster in Santa Monica and were disappointed with our experience. I happened to be on crutches following a foot surgery. So it didn't help that the gentleman at the register wasn't paying attention to our very simple order, making me have to repeat myself. He was making the mistake of assuming what I wanted instead of actually paying attention. Nothing personal. Next, after paying hundreds of dollars for a couple of lobster rolls, the cashier asked my wife and I if we would like our meal heated, and if so, it would be an additional $1 dollar charge, which I thought was extremely tacky for a high-end establishment. So I explained to the staff that, as expensive as Luke's Lobster is in comparison to what is served, to solicit $1for a simple courtesy is a really bad look. But my wife and I didn't blame the staff. We figured it was the owner's idea. Though I bought the largest lobster roll, it looked and felt the same size of my wife's that was supposed to be a smaller ounce. Then the taste of our lunch was just ok. The truth is, what I spent at Luke's Lobster for a casual lunch date is more than what I spend for several entrees of Tri-tip at my favorite high-end steak restaurant. I would recommend that the owner and GM make some necessary adjustments. But judging by the other poor reviews, the company doesn't seem to be big on accountability. Despite our poor experience, I still left the staff a significant tip. But my wife and I won't be returning. We just wanted to share our experience. It's the only gluten free lobster roll in LA so we had to check it out. They had friendly service with indoor seating. I got the warm 6oz lobster roll combo which came with chips & a drink. The roll was made with butter, it had a lot of lobster & it was delicious!! We also got the clam chowder, which was also gluten free. It was super tasty & came with a lot of clams. You grab your own drink in the fridge. I tried the blueberry soda with cane sugar, it was very good. We will definitely return next time we're in the area. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating from start to finish. Service was stellar -- when our kettle chips got a little soft from sitting next to the hot soup, they kindly replaced them with a fresh, unopened bag without hesitation. We ordered the lobster roll flight (lemon butter, spicy honey butter, and truffle butter). All three were fresh and delicious, but the spicy honey butter was the standout! Stopped in for lunch after working a long morning at a special event in Santa Monica. Walked over and the place wasn't busy at that hour. Took my time looking over the menu and went with the Lobster Roll Flight, a cup of clam chowder, and a drink. I found a seat and waited while our order was prepared. The person at the register was kind, but the real standout was the man who made the food. When I mentioned that the chips that came with our plates didn't taste quite right, he immediately took care of it and brought out a fresh serving. Total pro move and very appreciated. We ordered the flight with crab, shrimp and lobster and added an extra lobster roll. We also asked for one of each butter and the server told us what went well with each one. The bread was warm and toasted the seafood was fresh and the butter flavors were all delicious. My hubby got a local beer and the rolls came with chips on the side. Everything was OK; The lobster roll was definitely not like how I had it in Seattle. At the first bite, I was disappointed by the hardly warmed meat and over-buttered bread that was dripping, soggy, onto my tray from my Luke's roll. I didn't try the flight but I was told that was a 6/10 too and not worth the price. We were disappointed to say the least. I really liked the Lobster Bisque, though. I've been to both Luke's in LAS for a lobster roll. Each of those really didn't have a spot to dine in. This location is fabulous! Luke's Lobster has a new spot in Santa Monica, and it's great to have this East Coast favorite on the West Coast. I ordered the Lobster Roll combo, which comes with chips and a soft drink for $41, and added the poppyseed slaw for an extra $2. The roll tasted just like it does back in NYC--fresh, flavorful, and packed with lobster. Prices are a bit higher than the East Coast locations, but not by much. My mouth waters whenever I think or talk about this place. It really is that good! I've never had a proper lobster roll prior to my visit but have always wanted to try Luke's. I stopped by an hour before closing on a Friday night and the guys at the register were so friendly and helpful. I ordered the seafood roll flight so I could try a bit of everything for my first time and so glad I did. Although all three were delicious, I am a sucker for crab and liked that one better than the lobster or shrimp rolls. Everything was cooked to perfection though and I was surprisingly full afterwards. I also ordered a side of the truffle butter and hot honey butter. I thought the truffle butter was OK (I don't like truffle very much) but can see someone who loves truffle really enjoying it! Honestly, I found the hot honey butter a little too spicy for my tastes and preferred just adding a little hot sauce instead to get the heat and acidity to cut the richness of the roll. The lemon butter was really my favorite. They were sadly out of clam chowder when I went so I will have to go back to try it. Overall, it is a bit pricier than usual for a casual spot but: 1) it's seafood, 2) their seafood is sustainably sourced, and 3) it's delicious and very well-worth the price. Was just ok. I've had it at another location in Vegas and loved it. This time I liked it but not sure I would go back. I got the Mainer so 6oz lobster roll with clam chowder, chips and a drink. Also got the seafood flight which was 2oz of crab, 2 oz of lobster and 2oz shrimp. For the lobster, there was seasoning on top that I wasn't a fan of maybe if I do go back I'll order it warm just with butter. Staff was friendly and there as lots of seating both inside and outside. To put into perspective, my meal consisted of three two ounce rolls of lobster, crab, and shrimp, an 8 ounce cup of clam chowder, some chips, a pickle, and a bottle of Mexicane Cola. While I enjoyed the meal, it wasn't particularly the most filling and came out to be $51 after tax and tips. I understand that these types of seafood are not cheap, but damn did my wallet hurt after the meal. While wandering Santa Monica with no lunch plan in mind--just the freedom of a train ride, some shopping, and a stroll to the pier--I stumbled upon Luke's Lobster, a fast-casual spot tucked into DTSM's busy scene. It turned out to be a pleasant little detour. I kept it light with a bowl of clam chowder and a root beer. The chowder isn't made in-house, but it's also not your standard food-service fare. It's made exclusively for the franchise, which is a decent compromise. Texture-wise, it leaned watery rather than creamy, but the clams were visible and generously portioned--definitely not stingy. The base flavor was mild, with small potato bits making up most of the body. I didn't find any other vegetables in my bowl. Not bad, just simple. The root beer, unfortunately, was a letdown. It lacked that classic punchy carbonation and felt a bit flat overall. Nothing to rave about there. Service was friendly and informative. The person behind the counter walked me through how they source their seafood--sustainably and directly from the coast. Always good to hear when a business knows (and cares about) where their ingredients come from. As a bonus, I was handed a punch card for future visits--ten stamps and there's a reward at the end. Noted. Would I go back? There's a good chance. Next time, I'll skip the soup and go straight for their signature lobster or shrimp roll, which looked like the real reason most people were there in the first place. Bottom Line: Luke's is a solid, casual stop if you're in Santa Monica and want seafood without the fuss. The lobster here is really good and fresh. The flight option is fun too, but I'll be honest, the flavors all taste about the same. I do think it's still worth it to get the flight, since it's only $1 more than a normal 6oz lobster roll. It also comes with a craft soda and chips. I ordered delivery of a gluten-free lobster roll. It was basically a gluten-free hotdog bun with some cold lobster piled on top of it and a side of butter and bland coleslaw. I have never tasted anything so completely bland dry and unremarkable in every way. Would never order from them again. Got a response from Luke's saying that they add the butter on the side so the roll is not soggy. I don't understand the concept of putting warm melted butter on cold lobster and a cool bun. Growing up eating at some of the best authentic lobster roll spots between Kittery and Portland I must claim I am an expert here. I almost must claim Lukes is an expert in Los Angeles. These guys nail it. Fresh claws you can see, nice soft tail meat - not minced up and full of filler like other places, they respect the lobster and subtle nuances compliment the flavor profile. Hands down the best I've had in Los Angeles to date. Easy 9.4/10 I got the sampler plate because I wanted to try what a shrimp / crab roll was as honestly had never had before (obviously crush shrimp prepared in other ways and destroy king crab like it's going out of style) I gotta be honest, just go for the lobster (not that these were bad) but the lobster roll teaser on that plate will make you wish you had just gone for it in the first place.
