This local and moderately hidden park/field is really nice. It's quiet and most tourists would…read morenever think about stopping here (or ever know it exists!). There are basketball courts, a baseball field, 2 tennis courts and a pretty nice playground overlooking the beach and ocean. It's a fantastic place to take a kayak out or do some fishing. There a slightly rocky beach that gradually goes into the ocean. This is clearly a local spot and even though it is less than 5 minutes from Plymouth Rock it was nearly empty on a Sunday afternoon. It's pet friendly and there were multiple dogs jumping in the ocean and running around. There are also some restrooms if needed. There was no parking fee either.

Woods and bikes…read more Brook's Park is a very rustic park that has a wide variety of things to do. Some very nice basketball and tennis courts as well as a lovely gazebo for picnics and very gentle hiking trails with soft pine needles are found within the park. The park is situated right next to the 22 mile Cape Cod Rail Trail that goes through several towns and meanders down to the ocean for those intrepid enough to brave the chilly water to take a dip. The fact that the bike path goes through towns means it easy to stop and load up with liquid or better yet ice cream. The park is well used during the summer months and is also used for X-country skiing and snow shoeing in the winter. A lovely park to enjoy some activities or just find a peaceful and quiet corner for some relaxing and reflection.

Walls murals and…read moreknuckeheads Hunter Park is an open area tucked away off of Van Zandt Ave. Not an easy place to find and even more difficult to find parking once you do find it. The park is a lot larger than it first looks and has a playground, tennis and basketball courts, baseball field and large fields to run around in. It also has a huge wall that separates it from Van Zandt Ave. This wall has been a magnet for knuckleheads that enjoy writing on walls. Some people must might glorify it by calling it graffiti but it's really just mindless, self centered crap. The town got tired of painting over the graffiti on the wall and decided to find a more permanent solution. So they got a bunch of local artists to volunteer to paint a lovely mural on the 200 foot wall. All kinds of local Newport scenes are on the mural including, beaches, bridges and of course lighthouses. The mural is stunning and beautiful and is a wonderful achievement. Hopefully the knuckleheads that enjoy writing their egotistic nonsense on public walls will have enough sense to be able to appreciate it.

Horses dogs and…read morebirds The Charles Washburn Park is a peaceful and scenic place tucked away down a small street in a quiet part of the town of Marion. It's a site of numerous equestrian events and has several horse riding areas that can be used anytime. Besides the equines the park also has an area for dogs. It's not fenced in but the folks can bring their canines in the area behind one of the horse rings to run and play with the other canines. The park also has some beautiful wooded areas and cranberry bogs and makes a nice place for a gentle hike. It's very flat and it's actually more suited for walking than actually hiking but the area is lovely, especially in the winter or fall. Lots of birds make this their home and bird watching groups gathering here during the year to catch a glimpse of their favorite feathered friend. Washburn is a different type of park that seems to cater to critters more than to humans, even though it does have baseball and soccer fields for the bipeds to use. A pleasant and peaceful place to visit if you happen to have a dog, horse or just want to see some birds or nature.
