Horses dogs and…read morebirds The Charles Washburn Park is a peaceful and scenic place tucked away down a small street in a quiet part of the town of Marion. It's a site of numerous equestrian events and has several horse riding areas that can be used anytime. Besides the equines the park also has an area for dogs. It's not fenced in but the folks can bring their canines in the area behind one of the horse rings to run and play with the other canines. The park also has some beautiful wooded areas and cranberry bogs and makes a nice place for a gentle hike. It's very flat and it's actually more suited for walking than actually hiking but the area is lovely, especially in the winter or fall. Lots of birds make this their home and bird watching groups gathering here during the year to catch a glimpse of their favorite feathered friend. Washburn is a different type of park that seems to cater to critters more than to humans, even though it does have baseball and soccer fields for the bipeds to use. A pleasant and peaceful place to visit if you happen to have a dog, horse or just want to see some birds or nature.

You could not have asked for a better day than today, stopping in to see Ned's Point (named after…read moreNed Dexter, a local farmer who once owne the land) on a mostly sunny and warm afternoon. The parking lot was mostly empty and so it was easy to stop the Sprinter van and pop out to walk Ned's Point and view the lighthouse from all angles without anything in the way. The Ned's Point Lighthouse was commissioned in 1837 and first lit in 1838. The tower stands 39 feet tall and features a unique architectural detail: a cantilevered granite staircase with 32 steps embedded directly into the inner wall, built without mortar. Unfortunately, it's not open to the public. Ned's Point Light was deactivated between 1952 and 1961, then modernized and reactivated with a 6-second isophase white light. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, preserving its legacy as a symbol of Mattapoisett's maritime heritage. On June 29, I called earlier in the day to ask whether our cabin might be available before the 4:00 p.m. check-in time. I was told that early check-in would not be available that day, but that the cabin could possibly be ready around 3:30 p.m., and that we were welcome to arrive early and enjoy the campground amenities while we waited. We arrived around 3:00 p.m. and were told the cabin was not ready and to return at 4:00 p.m. Since we had family staying at the campground, we waited at their cabin. While walking by our assigned cabin, a woman who identified herself as the Head of Housekeeping stopped and asked if everything had been cleaned properly. We explained that we had been told the cabin was not yet ready. She went inside, immediately realized it had not been cleaned, apologized, and assured us it would be cleaned right away. Shortly before 4:00 p.m., we walked back to the cabin and saw that the housekeeping staff had already left. I then went to the office to check in, only to be told that the cabin still had not been cleaned. I explained my earlier conversation with the Head of Housekeeping, and the office staff repeatedly attempted to contact housekeeping over the radio. Eventually, another employee who was already responding to a separate cabin issue was sent to verify the cabin's status. I ultimately waited nearly 45 minutes in the office after the official 4:00 p.m. check-in time before receiving our keys. While I was waiting, I also overheard several other guests experiencing issues during the check-in process. During our stay, the campground Wi-Fi was unreliable and frequently unavailable. We later received an email notifying guests that the Wi-Fi was down and that the camp store would also not be open. While I understand that technical issues can occur, this was another inconvenience that affected our experience. Additionally, one of the amenities that influenced our decision to stay at your campground was the lake, which is advertised on your website as a place where guests can enjoy swimming, fishing, and kayaking. Unfortunately, the condition of the lake did not match the expectations created by your website. It appeared stagnant and uninviting, and we did not feel comfortable swimming or otherwise using an amenity that was prominently advertised as a highlight of the campground. As a result, one of the features we were most looking forward to enjoying during our stay was effectively unavailable to our family. The most significant issue occurred on the evening of July 2. Our cabin became extremely hot and would not cool down despite the air conditioner running continuously, both ceiling fans operating, and two additional fans that we had brought ourselves. The main bedroom and loft were especially unbearable. Our children were visibly sweating, and the temperature inside the cabin was so uncomfortable that it was impossible to sleep. We called twice before maintenance arrived. The maintenance employee immediately commented that the cabin felt "disgusting" due to the heat and discovered that the air conditioning unit had frozen over. He explained that several cabins were experiencing the same issue that day and told us the campground had received a shipment of portable air conditioners and fans to distribute to affected cabins. Unfortunately, by the time he reached us, none remained available. He sincerely apologized and explained there was nothing further he could do other than have us turn the unit off to allow it to thaw. As a result, our children were unable to get to sleep until after midnight, and the main bedroom did not reach a reasonable temperature until approximately 3:00 a.m. We essentially lost an entire night's rest during what should have been the final evening of our vacation. While we understand that isolated issues can happen, the combination of the delayed check-in, poor communication, unreliable Wi-Fi, the unexpected closure of the camp store, amenities that did not match how they were advertised, and most importantly the failure of the air conditioning during extremely warm weather made this stay far below the standard we expected. These were not minor inconveniences--they substantially affected our family's comfort and enjoyment throughout the trip. Emailed several times with no response from anyone at Jellystone. Do not go!!

I love the fire pit outside of the cabins we made fresh snores they were so yummy and the kids had so much fun doing so, you can buy wood right at the store on the campsite which was convenient I also grabbed some eggs for breakfast in the morning. We didn't get to enjoy mini golf but we seen it and it looked fun. Overall great experience and we will be back!

We recently stayed at Myles Standish State Forest on site J26 in the Barretts Pond loop, and…read moreunfortunately, it wasn't quite what we expected. The site itself is situated at the top of a steep hill, which is not ideal if you have a car that sits low to the ground, our vehicle bottomed out trying to park, making it basically unusable for us in that spot. To make matters worse, the path to the site doubles as an access point to another campsite. So even if you could manage to park there, chances are high that your neighbors will end up parking in that same pathway, making it extremely difficult--if not impossible--for you to get to your site conveniently. It definitely felt like the layout of this area wasn't thought through for ease of access. The bathrooms in this loop left a lot to be desired. During our stay, they were extremely dirty and, at one point, there were a few hours without water or electricity. That said, there were a few positives. The small swimming pond in this section of the campground was actually quite charming. It's private to those staying at the loop, which makes it feel peaceful and far less crowded compared to other parts of the forest that have public access. It was nice to be able to relax there without the usual campground chaos. Overall, the serenity of the area was nice, but the site setup, parking issues, and bathroom conditions really took away from the experience. If you're considering this loop, especially site J26, I'd recommend looking into alternative spots within the forest that might be easier to access and are better maintained. I've been coming here for years and have had many experiences both good and bad. Check-in can take awhile, and lines can get long which is brutal in the heat, then your met with some people at the counters with attitudes that leave more to be desired. I'm sure there are better places to camp, but it is a staple.

The camping sites are deep in the forest, in fact it's bout 5 miles from the entrance to camping sites. Roads are paved and my own problem is having to constantly contend with bicyclists. (Read up on MA state law regarding bicyclists -- they have more right of way than I thought they did!) Be cautious of Masac. I saw the signs and didn't know what it was until I stumbled across the building one day. Yes, there is a prison facility in these woods!! Maybe that's why they have state park rangers at each camping "gate", and I fully appreciate that!
